Check out Florida Gators guard Zyon Pullin’s post-game press conference highlights

The Florida Gators steam rolled through the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday afternoon, 97-72, to put a bow on the month of the December, extending its win streak to six games before the thick of the schedule arrives with a meeting against Kentucky on Jan. 6.

Florida was led by guards Will Richard and [autotag]Zyon Pullin[/autotag], who combined for 38 points, bolstering the 25-point home win for the Gators and showing that the Gators can be dangerous on the offensive of the ball no matter who’s carrying the rock.

Pullin scored the second-most points (16) for Florida, trailing behind Richard’s 22-point performance while managing to dish the ball for six assists along with two rebounds.

Pullin addressed the media following the huge win over Quinnipiac and is feeling good going into 2024.

Florida guard Will Richard speaks to the media after win over Quinnipiac

Check out what Florida Gators guard Will Richard had to say following the big home win over Quinnipiac.

The Florida Gators emerged victorious once again on Saturday afternoon, downing the Quinnipiac Bobcats and extending its current win streak to six games.

Saturday’s matchup with the Bobcats was the final non-conference game for the Orange and Blue, as the Gators will charge head-first into the SEC slate of the season with a contest against the Kentucky Wildcats.

Florida guard [autotag]Will Richard[/autotag] had another stellar performance, racking up a team-high 22 points along with five makes from beyond the three-point line. Richard cooked throughout the month of December and continued to bring the heat during the final game of the 2023 calendar year.

Richard participated in the post-game media conference and had plenty of good thoughts to share with the world as the Florida basketball program prepares to ring in the new year.

Five takeaways from Florida’s blowout win over Quinnipiac

Florida capped off a perfect December with a 25-point win over Quinnipiac that was never in doubt. SEC play starts in one week.

Florida basketball cruised to a 97-72 win over Quinnipiac on Saturday, closing out the Gators’ first perfect month in 25 months.

The Orange and Blue are doing whatever it takes to win, and tonight that meant leaning on Will Richard once again. The second-year Florida guard played just 20 minutes but led all scorers with 22 points, acting as the catalyst for Florida’s early double-digit lead.

Richard rarely missed from beyond the arc and Zyon Pullin also drained a few threes to push the lead even further. The backups came in with plenty of time left in the second half, but a 25-point win never seemed in doubt.

The Gators are looking pretty good heading into conference play. Here’s what we learned on Saturday.

Game Preview: Florida wraps up non-conference schedule with Quinnnipiac

Florida basketball is closing out 2023 with its final non-conference game of the season against the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday.

The final non-conference game on the Florida Gators’ schedule is an afternoon matchup with the Quinnipiac Bobcats at the O’Connell Center in Gainesville.

Florida is looking to notch its 10th win of the season and seventh-straight win over a Quadrant 3 or 4 opponent. Quinnipiac has won four of its last five games, but the most impressive of those came against Navy. The Gators might still be waiting to ascend into the upper echelon of college basketball teams in the country, but they are markedly better than the Bobcats and are expected to win by double digits.

The Orange and Blue are an offensive juggernaut, averaging 85.4 points through 12 games this year. Quinnipiac has only scored 85 points four times this year. Florida could be without Riley Kugel once again, but he is listed as probable.

Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Saturday. Let’s take a closer look at both teams before the game.

ESPN predicts big Florida win over Quinnipiac using BPI

ESPN uses its College Basketball Power Index to predicts every outcome of the season, and Florida is expected to win big over Quinnipiac.

The Quinnipiac Bobcats currently hold a 9-3 record and are third in the MAAC, but ESPN thinks Florida should win by about 20 on Saturday when the two teams meet up in Gainesville.

Using the Basketball Power Index, ESPN gives Florida 94.2% odds to win by an expected 19.7-point margin. The game has a matchup quality rating of 61.3, which is a bit high considering Quinnipiac is a Quadrant 4 opponent.

“BPI is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward,” the site reads. “BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is… Game predictions account for opponent strength, pace of play, site, travel distance, day’s rest and altitude, and are used to simulate the season 10,000 times to produce season projections.”

The Gators are 5-0 against Quadrant 4 teams, and Quinnipiac hasn’t moved into Quadrant 3 territory yet. There is some hope that the Bobcats will finish the season ranked higher, but Florida would still be favored over a Q3 opponent.

The Bobcats have taken four of their last five games, averaging more than 70 points a game over that stretch. Florida is looking to push its winning streak to six games before conference play begins and is averaging 85.4 points per game.

Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. ET on Saturday. Fans can find the broadcast on ESPNU.

Ohio State men’s hockey loses to Quinnipiac, knocked out of NCAA Tournament

A good run fell a wee-bit short. #GoBucks

The Ohio State men’s hockey team fell just short of its goal to make another Frozen Four.

Despite outshooting Quinnipiac by about a 2:1 margin, the Buckeyes couldn’t get the high-quality chances it needed to get more than one goal into the back of the net, falling to the Bobcats by a 4-1 score.

It was tight throughout, with Ohio State getting on the board first with 9:25 left in the first period on a charging rush by Joe Dunlap. Unfortunately, Quinnipiac would score two quick goals in succession and within 15 seconds of each other with under seven minutes left later in the first period to quickly wrestle the lead back, 2-1.

And that’s the way it would stay all the way until late in the 3rd period despite several chances by Ohio State to get the equalizer. The Bobcats got a crucial goal on a rebound batted out of the air with just 4:10 left on the clock to stretch it to a two-goal lead. Coach Steve Rohlik then decided to pull the goalie for the man advantage but OSU couldn’t get light the lamp again and instead gave up an empty netter for the final 4-1 score.

It wasn’t exactly what Ohio State wanted this season, but it was still a good postseason run and one for the Buckeyes to be proud of.

How to watch Ohio State hockey in the NCAA quarterfinals

The Ohio State hockey team will try to get to the Frozen Four for the first time since 2018. #GoBucks

The Ohio State hockey team got off to a fast start in the opening round of the NCAA hockey tournament. The Buckeyes entered play as an underdog to Harvard in the Bridgeport Regional. OSU scored early and often before the Crimson knew what hit them winning 8-1.

Now Ohio State moves on to face the No. 2 overall seed, Quinnipiac. The Bobcats took care of Merrimac in the opening round by a score of 5-0. If the Bucks can pull off another upset, they’ll move on to the Frozen Four for the first time since 2018 and only the third time ever in program history.
