Washington Football Team activates Reuben Foster from PUP list

The Washington Football Team activated Reuben Foster from the PUP list.

Some get it and others never will. Two days after releasing RB Derrius Guice following his arrest on domestic violence charges, the Washington Football Team felt it was the opportune moment to active LB Reuben Foster from the PUP list.

That is the same player who was claimed off waivers by Washington in November 2018 after being waived by the San Francisco 49ers because of an arrest for misdemeanor domestic violence.

A previous arrest in 2018 for domestic violence charges against the same woman resulted in the judge dropping the charges.

Foster landed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List after the November arrest. The decision to pick up the former Alabama star created quite the controversy.

Foster has yet to see game-action with Washington because he tore the lateral collateral ligament and anterior crucial ligament in his left knee on the first day of organized team activity work in May 2019. He also suffered nerve damage in his foot, which lengthened his recovery period.

The 49ers selected Foster in the first round (31st overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was the third inside linebacker, behind Haason Reddick and Jarrad Davis, and the fifth linebacker selected in 2017.

In addition to the ugly Guice arrest, the Washington Football team also recently was the subject of a Washington Post investigation that revealed alleged widespread sexual harassment in its front office.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid has no timetable for return of Juan Thornhill, Martinas Rankin

There’s no timetable for either Chiefs player returning from the PUP list.

The Kansas City Chiefs don’t currently have a timetable for two players who are currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Both DB Juan Thornhill and OL Martinas Rankin started games for the Chiefs in 2019. Rankin suffered a knee injury during the Week 10 loss against the Titans. Thornhill suffered a knee injury during the Week 17 win over the Chargers.

Now, Kansas City looks to be without both players through the beginning of training camp and possibly longer. Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke on the prospect of both players returning to action during his Sunday media availability.

“We’ll have to see how and when [Juan Thornhill is able to return to practice],” Reid said. “He is doing well at this time. Once we get into that phase where we’re moving him around — the trainers are moving him around a little bit more — we’ll be able to tell. But he’s not ready, obviously, right now.”

It’d seem that right now, Thornhill isn’t doing much with training staff in terms of moving around. That’s not exactly a good sign with just over a month until the season opener against the Houston Texans.

Reid reiterated the same thing with Rankin and his return from injury.

“I’d say the same thing,” Reid said of Rankin. “I mean, they’re all making good progress, it’s just a matter of when they can come back. As they ramp them up — the trainers — we’ll see. But neither one is ready to go right now.”

It’s good to know that both players are making good progress at the very least. It’s entirely possible that both players start the 2020 season on the PUP list, which would cost them at minimum the first six weeks of the year before they could practice and be activated to the 53-man roster.

Reuben Foster’s removal from PUP list is major win for Washington fans

It was announced that Reuben Foster was removed from the PUP list on Sunday, which is a rare bit of good news for Washington fans to hear.

Fans of the Washington Football Team received some great news on Sunday morning, as it was announced that linebacker Reuben Foster had been taken off of the PUP list, signaling that he is that much closer to finally taking the field in Washington.

Foster was picked up in 2018, but never played a game for Washington due to a significant knee injury that he suffered in the spring of 2019. That injury held him out of the entire 2019 season, and many believed that it could cause him to miss a good portion of the 2020 season as well, with grim details about his recovery coming out early this year.

Now though, with a string of positive news coming out about Foster, it appears that he will be ready to play sooner rather than later, and he’ll likely be able to join a staunch front-seven on the defense in Washington, operating alongside LB Thomas Davis and LB Cole Holcomb, while cleaning up behind a defensive line that consists of five former first-round picks.

It’s been a tough summer by any accounts for Washington fans, but this is a definite win. Enjoy it while you can.

Jarvis Landry, 2 others activated off the Browns’ PUP list

Landry is one of four Browns activated on Saturday

Good news emanates from Berea on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry passed his physical with the team and has been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

Landry was placed on the list last week. “Juice” is recovering from offseason surgery on his hip and wasn’t quite ready to roll at the onset of team activities.

The Browns also announced they activated safety Karl Joseph and tight end Pharaoh Brown from the PUP list. In addition, Cleveland also activated wide receiver J’Mon Moore off the non-football injury list.

Landry and the others can all now participate in all team activities.

Karl Joseph placed on the Browns’ physically unable to perform list

Joseph is still recovering from foot surgery he had last November

Browns fans will have to wait a little longer before they get to see new safety Karl Joseph. The free agent signee has been placed on the physically unable to perform, or PUP, list by the team.

Joseph’s status is an extension of the foot injury he suffered last season as a member of the (then) Oakland Raiders. He missed the final seven weeks of the 2019 season after having surgery for a broken foot that also included a partial tear of the plantar fascia. The 26-year-old injured the foot while making an interception (pictured) against the Chargers.

Joseph is the second presumed starter to land on the Browns’ active PUP list. He joins WR Jarvis Landry, who was placed on the list over the weekend. Like Joseph, Landry is recovering from offseason surgery.

Lions claim DT Daylon Mack off waivers in series of Sunday roster moves

Mack was a 5th-round pick by the Ravens in 2019

The Detroit Lions were busy working on the first day of August. The team announced on Sunday evening a series of roster moves, including the addition of defensive tackle Daylon Mack off waivers.

Mack was claimed off waivers from Baltimore, where he was a fifth-round pick by the Ravens in the 2019 NFL Draft. He played only nine special teams snaps in one game as a rookie.

In addition to the Mack acquisition, the Lions made a couple of internal status updates.

Austin Bryant was placed on the active/PUP list. The second-year EDGE missed most of his rookie campaign with a torn pectoral muscle.

Defensive end Romeo Okwara is now on the active/non-football injury list.

Both Okwara and Bryant remain free to be activated at any point before the start of the season and do not count against the Lions’ roster cap.

The team also officially announced the signing of draft pick Jashon Cornell.

Browns place Jarvis Landry on the active/PUP list

Landry is still rehabbing from his offseason hip surgery

Jarvis Landry will begin the Cleveland Browns training camp on the active/physically unable to perform list. The Browns placed Landry on the PUP list on Sunday after the veteran wideout took his physical.

Landry is still recovering from offseason surgery on his hip and pelvis. He is on track in his rehabilitation and has had no setbacks, per ESPN’s Jake Trotter.

Placing Landry on the PUP list means the team gains a roster spot for another player to practice while Landry continues his rehabilitation. “Juice” will be able to come off the list at any time prior to the start of the season.

Fellow wide receiver J’Mon Moore was also placed on the active/PUP list following his physical. He is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Saints designate Kiko Alonso, Johnson Bademosi to PUP list

The New Orleans Saints will open their 2020 training camp with Kiko Alonso and Johnson Bademosi on the physically unable to perform list.

The New Orleans Saints had two transactions listed on the daily NFL wire, designating linebacker Kiko Alonso and cornerback Johnson Bademosi to the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Saturday. Both players will count against the 90-man roster limit.

Alonso suffered a torn ACL in the Saints’ postseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings back in January, and has spent the offseason recovering from surgery. While there were optimistic reports about his availability to open training camp earlier this summer, the Saints are going to be cautious in working him back onto the practice field. Alonso renegotiated his contract with the Saints, saving them salary cap space and guaranteeing him the opportunity to compete for a job. He played well when healthy last season, filling in as the team’s go-to third linebacker behind Demario Davis and A.J. Klein.

Bademosi re-signed with the Saints after testing free agency; in 2019, he joined the squad near mid-season and was a big part of their success on special teams. But a December foot injury in practice landed him on injured reserve. The Saints have several competitors for their fourth and fifth cornerback spots behind Marshon Lattimore, Janoris Jenkins, and P.J. Williams, so Bademosi has his work cut out for him, once healthy. He’ll have to displace either Patrick Robinson or Justin Hardee on the depth chart, not to mention newcomers like Deatrick Nichols, Keith Washington Jr., and Tino Ellis.

Texans ILB Dylan Cole, CB Gareon Conley placed on PUP list

The Houston Texans placed inside linebacker Dylan Cole and cornerback Gareon Conley on the physically unable to perform list.

The Houston Texans announced Friday the placement of inside linebacker Dylan Cole and cornerback Gareon Conley on the physically unable to perform list.

Cole is still recovering form a torn ACL that he sustained in the club’s victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 12 of last season. The former 2017 undrafted free agent from Missouri State was voted team captain of the special teams unit by his teammates. Cole was signed to a restricted free agent tender worth over $2.1 million in the offseason.

Conley came over from the Oakland Raiders prior to the Texans’ Week 8 encounter with the very same team. A former 2017 first-round pick from Ohio State, the Texans were in need of cornerback help after injuries ravaged the group. Houston decided not to pick up Conley’s fifth-year option for 2021, which would counted $10.2 million against the Texans’ salary cap. The cornerback also underwent ankle surgery in the offseason.

Cole and Conley are eligible to come off of a the PUP list once they pass their physicals.

Chiefs add DB Juan Thornhill to PUP list

Thornhill will start training camp on the physically unable to perform list.

The Kansas City Chiefs have placed safety Juan Thornhill on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list according to the NFL’s official transaction report.

A move to the PUP list means that Thornhill will not be permitted to practice until he’s medically cleared to do so by doctors and athletic training staff in Kansas City. Thornhill suffered a torn ACL during the Chiefs’ Week 17 win against the Los Angeles Chargers. He was sent to the injured reserve list and didn’t participate in the Chiefs’ postseason run after a tremendous rookie season.

Thornhill has spent the offseason rehabbing his injury and looks to be making some progress in his return to action.

Thornhill can participate in Chiefs’ team meetings. He’s allowed to do conditioning and work with the training staff at the team facilities. He just can’t practice with the team while he’s on the PUP list. He can be activated from the PUP list at any time during training camp.

If Thornhill is not activated by the end of training camp, he’ll be transferred to the reserve/PUP list for the regular season. If that happens he won’t be able to practice for the first six weeks to start the season. After six weeks another six-week window begins when he can return to practice. By the end of those six weeks, Kansas City would have to decide to activate him or send him to the injured reserve list.

It was pretty clear that this move was coming after the Chiefs decided to sign Tedric Thompson, who also plays the deep safety position. This decision should allow Thornhill to ease back into things as he comes off of a tough injury. Keep in mind, he’s not even eight months removed from surgery to repair the torn ligament in his knee.

During a dominant rookie campaign in 2019, Thornhill recorded 58 total tackles, three interceptions, including one for a touchdown, and five passes defended and 16 games started. He didn’t give up a single play of 20 or more yards during the entire season.
