Wearing a pair of gray golf pants and a blue patterned shirt, and with his hat pulled down low on his forehead, no one stopped Rickie Fowler as he walked on a cart path between the driving range and the third fairway at Quail Hollow Golf Club to ask for his autograph or a selfie. It was the Monday before the start of the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship, and no fans were at the course yet, which meant Fowler could leisurely stroll, uninterrupted, to his new home away from home.

That home weighs about 60,000 pounds, has 18 wheels and is packed with some of the most technologically advanced golf equipment and club-building tools on the PGA Tour. It’s Cobra-Puma Golf’s new PGA Tour trailer, a customized truck that is designed to act as a support center for Cobra staffers like Fowler, Gary Woodland, Justin Suh, Jason Dufner and others.

Cobra brought the truck to the PGA Tour for the first time at the Wells Fargo Championship in May and was thrilled to show it off. With draws filled with driver, fairway wood, hybrid and iron heads, along with the latest shafts, grinding wheels and customizing tools, the company’s PGA Tour reps and fitters builders can build clubs steps away from the practice area at tournaments. There is a locker room in the back where players can try on new apparel and footwear, meetings can be held, and VIPs can be shown the latest gear.

Golfweek was given an exclusive tour of Cobra’s new trailer and spoke with the team tasked with keeping Fowler and his stablemates happy and ready to contend at the highest level. This video takes you behind the scenes and shows you the level of detail and the thought that goes into creating a world-class golf equipment facility on wheels.

Lexi Thompson, who announced her retirement Tuesday, used one set of irons as a pro

That’s not a typo, as this excerpt from a conversation she had with Golfweek explains.

LPGA star Lexi Thompson announced on Tuesday that she will be retiring at the end of this season. Thompson has been one of the faces of American women’s golf since she qualified for her first U.S. Women’s Open at age 12. She’s never won the U.S. Women’s Open, but has come heartbreakingly close, including in 2021 when she had a five-shot lead at The Olympic Club in San Francisco before but wound up losing to Yuka Saso.

Before the start of the 2022 season, I had a chance to chat with Thompson on the phone about her equipment. You can read the entire interview here, but for me, the highlight was chatting with Lexi about the irons that never left her bag over 15 years.

That’s not a typo, as this excerpt from that conversation recalls:

David Dusek: OK, trivia time: Do you know the year the Cobra S2 irons, which you play, became available?

Lexi Thompson: Ha, probably the year I turned pro, if not the year before.

D.D.: Yup, 2009.

L.T.: I know because I have been using them my whole career.

D.D.: What is about those clubs that has made them impossible for you to replace?

L.T.: It’s kind of the same thing that I talked about with the 3-wood. With irons, I’m not one to use a blade, but the S2 is super forgiving and super soft coming off the face. I know that when I hit them solid, they are going to go the distance I need them to. They are going to be steady in the wind.

I’ve been using the Project X 5.0 shafts, and people tell me, “You should be using 6.0 [which is stiffer],” and I’m like, nope. My golf swing is set up for them and every time I have tried something new, it doesn’t come out right. It’s just not the same.

D.D.: Has Cobra told you if it is running out of S2 irons, and how often do you have to get a new set of the same irons because you wear the old set out?

L.T.: We’ve definitely had those conversations. I try all the new irons that Cobra makes, and they’re great. It’s just that once you find something you love, it’s hard to replace. But yes, we’ve had that talk. There may be something in the works, so we’ll see.”

In case you are wondering, Thompson is competing in the U.S. Women’s Open this week at Lancaster Country Club with a set of Cobra S2 irons in her bag.

Pulisic stars in AC Milan 2024-25 home kit launch

The Puma kit will feature the club’s traditional black and red stripes

Christian Pulisic was front and center as Puma launched AC Milan’s 2024-25 home kit on Thursday.

The U.S. men’s national team star has had an outstanding debut campaign with the Rossoneri, scoring 15 goals en route to being named a finalist for the 2023-24 Serie A Best Midfielder award this week.

Pulisic was among several AC Milan stars featuring in the campaign to launch the club’s home kit for next season.

Milan will celebrate its 125th anniversary during the 2024-25 campaign, which will see the club return to its trademark pattern of red and black vertical stripes on its home kit.

McKennie joins USMNT teammates Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah with the brand

Puma has announced the signing of U.S. men’s national team star Weston McKennie.

The Juventus midfielder joins his international teammates Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah as representatives of the apparel giant.

McKennie said he has already been wearing Puma’s Future boots for several months prior to signing on with the company.
