Fantasy football: Experts reveal key trend for Isiah Pacheco

See what the experts at Pro Football Network had to say about #Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco’s fantasy outlook for Week 14.

The Kansas City Chiefs were without star running back Isiah Pacheco for much of the regular season but got him back when they faced the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13.

Fantasy football managers were faced with a difficult decision when Pacheco was placed on Kansas City’s injured reserve list after Week 2, and now that he has returned to the field, some may be unsure if they should start him.

For those on the fence about getting Pacheco back in their lineups, the experts at Pro Football Network provided some key insight that may help convince managers to give the Rutgers product a chance in Week 14.

“Isiah Pacheco played 32.8% of the Chiefs snaps in his return to action, and while he had just eight touches in the win over the Raiders, he had a 34-yard run, something he only did twice last season.”

Though the Chiefs have found success with Kareem Hunt as their No. 1 option in the running game, Pacheco’s return could prove to be a boon for Kansas City’s offense as the defending Super Bowl champions make their push toward the playoffs.

Stay tuned to see if Pacheco gets more touches in the Chiefs’ Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes holds No. 5 spot in MVP race

According to the experts at Pro Football Network, #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes holds the No. 5 spot in the race to win the NFL’s MVP award.

The Kansas City Chiefs have the best record in the AFC but are hardly playing their best football through 12 games.

While the defending Super Bowl champions are heading into their Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on a two-game winning streak, Kansas City is reeling after back-to-back one-score wins.

Two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes hasn’t quite found his stride during the Chiefs’ 2024 campaign and is still looking to put together a breakout performance.

Despite his struggles, the experts at Pro Football Network still have Mahomes in the No. 5 spot in their MVP race metrics, which favor PFN’s QB+ statistic as a key metric in determining the likely winner of the coveted award.

See what PFN had to say about Mahomes’ chances of winning the MVP award below:

“You can never fully count out Patrick Mahomes. The greatest quarterback in NFL history is leading the Kansas City Chiefs to the best start of his career in what is statistically his worst season.

Mahomes is completing 68.4% of his passes but has a career-low 4.4% touchdown rate and a career-worst 2.6% interception rate.

The reality is his numbers should have him nowhere close to the MVP conversation. The only reason Mahomes is here is because the Chiefs are 11-1, and the quarterback of the team with the best record is frequently in the race.

With that said, it’s hard to envision Mahomes winning MVP. He already has two, and his production lags far behind the guys ahead of him on this list, as well as a number of quarterbacks behind him.”

Though it is unlikely that Mahomes will be able to overcome the competition to earn his third MVP award, he will have an opportunity to re-write the script on his otherwise underwhelming season against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14.

What is the most likely way for the Chiefs to clinch AFC’s No. 1 seed?

What is the #Chiefs’ clearest path to winning the No. 1 seed for the AFC playoffs in January?

The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills have both clinched their spots in the postseason, but the race to earn the coveted No. 1 seed in the AFC — and the home-field advantage that comes with it — is still playing out.

While the Chiefs (11-1) have maintained the best record in the conference, the Bills (10-2), who defeated Kansas City in Week 11, are hot on the defending Super Bowl champions’ tails.

According to win probability charts from Pro Football Network, Buffalo has an 18% chance of winning out and clinching the top seed compared to Kansas City’s odds of 7.5%.

The Bills’ most likely outcome — at 23% — would involve one loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 15.

The Chiefs’ win probability is currently at its lowest in Weeks 17 and 18, where they have a 50.7% and 49.3% chance to win respectively.

In the aggregate, Kansas City is equally likely to win out or go 4-1 over its last five games at 7.5%.

Check out the full win probability charts for both the Chiefs and Bills below:

Kansas City is favored in all but its last two games where it currently faces 50-50 odds. As such, the Chiefs’ most likely path to the No. 1 seed will involve a loss to either the Pittsburgh Steelers or Denver Broncos in Weeks 17 or 18, respectively, and a Buffalo loss to Detroit in Week 15.

Should Kansas City and the Bills end the regular season with the same record, Buffalo would win the No. 1 seed due to its head-to-head victory over the Chiefs.

Chiefs LB Nick Bolton earns game ball for marvelous effort against Raiders in Week 13

#Chiefs LB Nick Bolton earned a game ball from Pro Football Network for his outstanding performance against the #Raiders in Week 13.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ defense has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and with five games remaining on the defending Super Bowl champions’ schedule, the unit doesn’t have any margin for error.

In Kansas City’s latest win, a 19-17 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday, the Chiefs relied on their defense to stymie Aidan O’Connell during a two-minute drill that nearly ended in disaster at Arrowhead Stadium.

But, a heroic effort by fan-favorite linebacker Nick Bolton on the Raiders’ final drive made all the difference. The former Missouri Tiger recovered a fumble with 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter that ultimately led Kansas City to victory.

Bolton earned a game ball from the experts at Pro Football Network for his outstanding contributions in the Chiefs’ Week 13 win.

Here’s what PFN had to say about their decision to recognize Bolton:

“No matter your thoughts on the Raiders’ false-start-that-wasn’t on Las Vegas’ final offensive snap of Week 13, someone in Silver and Black still should have jumped on Aidan O’Connell’s fumble.

Nick Bolton did instead, which is why he gets a Game Ball for the latest escape act from the Chiefs.

Bolton’s fumble recovery capped another solid game for the Chiefs’ fourth-year linebacker, who led all players with 10 solo tackles (including one for loss) in the Chiefs’ Black Friday divisional tilt.

The two-time defending champs are now 10-0 in one-score games. Sustainable? Probably not. But there’s a very good chance that record would be 9-1 if Bolton weren’t on the field Friday.”

Stay tuned to see if Bolton can replicate his stellar performance against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14 as Kansas City makes its push for the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

Chiefs have seventh-hardest remaining strength of schedule

According to the experts at Pro Football Network, the Kansas City #Chiefs have the NFL’s seventh-hardest remaining strength of schedule.

The Kansas City Chiefs have dealt with a challenging schedule all season, and with five games left to play, the defending Super Bowl champions aren’t out of the woods yet.

According to the experts at Pro Football Network, Kansas City’s remaining strength of schedule is the seventh-hardest in the NFL heading into Week 14.

The Chiefs control their own destiny in the race to win the AFC’s No. 1 playoff seed but will have to face the Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Denver Broncos to earn a coveted first-round bye and home-field advantage in the postseason.

When the 2024 schedule came out, it seemed that Kansas City’s most difficult task would be its first five games before the Chiefs’ bye in Week 6.

After opening the season with matchups against the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals, in Weeks 1 and 2 Kansas City’s biggest second-half test was a Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, which resulted in the Chiefs’ only loss.

Chiefs dubbed the NFL’s ‘luckiest’ team

According to the experts at Pro Football Network, the Kansas City #Chiefs are the NFL’s luckiest team.

The Kansas City Chiefs have defied all odds to advance their regular season record to 11-1, and with five games left to play, the defending Super Bowl champions control their own destiny to earn the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

Though the stellar play of the Chiefs’ stars— most notably tight ends Travis Kelce and Noah Gray— has buoyed the team in recent weeks, the experts at Pro Football Network have determined that Kansas City’s success has come down to one critical factor: luck.

According to an article by Ben Rolfe, an intrepid analyst and Deputy Editor of Fantasy and Sport Betting at Pro Football Network, the Chiefs are the luckiest team in the NFL.

See what Rolfe had to say about Kansas City’s luck below:

“According to Pro Football Network’s luck metric, the Chiefs are the luckiest team in the NFL right now. Their 11-1 record is 3.21 wins above their projected win-loss record based on their metrics in games this season.

Only two of their wins have been graded as “lucky” by the system, which means their win projection was below 45%. However, they have also won two games in which their win projection was just 51%.

The two games that graded as “lucky” were the Black Friday win over the Raiders and the Week 10 win over the Denver Broncos. Interestingly, both of those games ended with the Chiefs’ opponent within field goal range only to either have their kick blocked or a bizarre turnover cost them the game.”

Though Kansas City’s experience certainly gives the Chiefs an edge over opponents, it seems that the luck factor, however intangible, is the defending Super Bowl champions’ best asset heading into the home stretch of the regular season.

Stay tuned to see if Kansas City’s good fortune continues when the Chiefs face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes posted lowest QB+ grade in a win since 2019 vs. Raiders

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes posted his lowest QB+ grade in a win since 2019 in Kansas City’s Week 13 win over the Las Vegas #Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs are 11-1, but after another sweaty win in Week 13, fans in Western Missouri should be a little worried about the defending Super Bowl champions heading into the home stretch of the regular season.

Patrick Mahomes’s inconsistent play has been part of Kansas City’s struggles this season, and the Chiefs’ narrow margin of victory against the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday was partially caused by his inability to produce more points.

According to the experts at Pro Football Network, Mahomes posted a QB+ grade of 72.2 in Kansas City’s latest win, his lowest mark in a victory since 2019.

Despite the poor grade, Mahomes threw for 306 yards and a touchdown without being intercepted.

Ultimately, despite his disappointing performance, the Chiefs maintained their role as the top team in the AFC, and Kansas City controls its own destiny to win the conference’s No. 1 playoff seed.

Stay tuned to see if Mahomes can earn a better QB+ grade when the Chiefs face the Los Angeles Chargers on December 8.

Chiefs TE Noah Gray earns game ball for outstanding performance vs. Panthers

#Chiefs TE Noah Gray earned a game ball from the experts at Pro Football Network for his two-touchdown performance against the #Panthers.

The Kansas City Chiefs achieved another close victory in their Week 12 matchup against the Carolina Panthers and earned their tenth regular season win in dramatic fashion after a last-second field goal by kicker Spencer Shrader.

Patrick Mahomes put together a three-touchdown performance without being intercepted and had a legendary 33-yard run in the fourth quarter that helped seal the game in Kansas City’s favor.

But, in their analysis of the Chiefs’ latest victory, the experts at Pro Football Network awarded tight end Noah Gray their game ball for his outstanding showing against Carolina in which he caught two of Mahomes’ three touchdown passes.

Take a look at their reasoning below:

“The easy thing would be just to hand this award to Patrick Mahomes, but that’s true most weeks for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mahomes was Superman Sunday, up to and including his 33-yard scramble that set up Spencer Shrader’s game-winning field goal as time expired in the Chiefs’ 30-27 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

But we’re going Noah Gray here. Why? It’s got to be a pretty anonymous life being the guy who backs up the guy who’s dating Taylor Swift.

But Gray took a backseat to no one, Travis Kelce included, in the Chiefs’ latest escape act.

Gray caught two of Mahomes’ three touchdown passes, had four receptions for a team-high 66 yards, and was on the field for 44 of 74 snaps Sunday.”

Stay tuned to see if Gray can extend his streak of outings with two touchdown catches to three games when the Chiefs face the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday in Week 13.

Steelers’ quarterback quandary: Grading Russell Wilson and Justin Fields

Pro Football Network grades Steelers quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields ahead of Week 12 Cleveland Browns matchup.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback quandary ended when Russell Wilson was medically cleared from an offseason calf injury. Justin Fields reverted to Wilson’s backup and debuted his limited package in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Both players bring unique strengths and weaknesses to the table, but the jury is still out on whether this was the right call.

Ben Rolfe at Pro Football Network recently broke it down like this:

13) Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers
Grade: C+

Russell Wilson is the poster child for why we set a 100-pass attempt minimum for these rankings. A week ago, he would have ranked inside the top five in these rankings, but his fourth start saw him plummet down the rankings after he ranked 26th on the week.

Wilson has been good when able to operate from a clean pocket this season, ranking eighth, but ranks 28th when he has to make plays under pressure. Prior to this week, choosing Wilson as the starter over Fields looked like a wise decision, but that is less decisive after the game against the Baltimore Ravens

14) Justin Fields, Pittsburgh Steelers
Grade: C+

It was a brave call from the Pittsburgh Steelers to bench Justin Fields after a 4-2 start to the season. Fields was having his career-best season in Pittsburgh, but the bar was low, and the numbers do not suggest he should have unquestioningly remained the starting QB.

There was a lot of promise about what Fields was doing, including ranking 10th when throwing under pressure and converting on third down. He wasn’t particularly performing badly at anything other than nYPA, which was ranked 25th at 6.1.

Fields was not hurting the Steelers and is a fine fill-in starter, but Wilson still offers Pittsburgh a slight advantage in the passing game.

The Steelers need long-term stability under center, something they have not had since the Ben Roethlisberger era. While Wilson’s ceiling is enticing, his inconsistency draws uncertainty. Fields is much younger, still developing and offers a spark with his athleticism.

Pittsburgh’s quarterback quandary will be most interesting to monitor early in the offseason, as both Wilson and Fields’ contracts expire at the beginning of the new NFL league year in March.

PFN gives midseason award nod to Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt

Pittsburgh Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt was named Defensive Player of the Year in Pro Football Network’s 2024 NFL Midseason Awards.

T.J. Watt is a household name to NFL fans, regardless of allegiance. Watt’s mind-blowing play since entering the league in 2017 has earned him several prestigious awards, including AP’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and AFC Defensive Player of the Week (8).

On the heels of fans naming Watt DPOY in Fox NFL’s Midseason Awards, he’s bagged the title in Pro Football Network’s Midseason Awards.

There’s no argument to be made that Watt hasn’t been a game-changer for the Steelers’ defense through 10 games, proving once again why he’s one of the NFL’s premier edge rushers. While his sack numbers (6.5) are down from what we’re accustomed to seeing, Watt’s relentless pressure on opposing quarterbacks and unmatched ability to disrupt plays continue to anchor Pittsburgh’s defense, making it one of the toughest in the league. Watt’s explosive speed off the edge has garnered a second-best 18 QB hits.

Beyond the stats, Watt’s presence on the field has been crucial for Pittsburgh, as he draws double teams that open up chances for other players like Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, Cameron Heyward and now Preston Smith. Watt’s energy and intensity are contagious, elevating the entire defense to a new level. Not only is Watt a nightmare for offensive lines, but he’s also a key reason the Steelers have been able to close out close games and stay in playoff contention.

Watt’s impact this season has been nothing short of elite, reinforcing his role as the heart and soul of Pittsburgh’s defense.
