2022 Preseason CFN Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year

RB Bijan Robinson, Jr. Texas

Okay, so he has been a bit more promise than actual production, but the superstar prospect has been outstanding when healthy, and now he should be the main man for a loaded Texas offense loaded with skill talent.

He’s got the size, quickness, and burst, running for 1,830 yards and 15 touchdowns with 41 catches and six scores in his first two years – but he can to a whole lot more. He’s an NFL starting running back hanging out in college, and now it’s salary drive time with a possible Heisman run along the way.

DE Will McDonald, Sr. Iowa State

The Cyclones might be in a bit of a rebuilding mode, but the defense should still be terrific starting with they’re outstanding two-time First Team All-Big 12 – and 2021 All-American – pass rusher who’s back for his fifth season.

The 6-3, 236-pounder started out well in his first two seasons, and then blew up with 22 sacks and 26 tackles for loss over the last two seasons from his hybrid position on the outside.

2021 Preseason CFN Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year

QB Spencer Rattler, RFr. Oklahoma

Iowa State RB Breece Hall, a slew of quarterbacks – Texas Tech’s Tyler Shough could end up being one of the top passers in the 2023 NFL Draft – and Texas RB Bijan Robinson could and should be right there in the mix for the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honors.

But the Oklahoma quarterback will be the league’s biggest star if he progresses as expected.

Rattler is technically a redshirt freshman – he only played in three games as a freshman and gets an extra year of eligibility after the COVID season – but he’s been around for a few years and comes off a terrific 68% passing season with over 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns and seven picks with six rushing scores. If all goes according to plan, he cranks up a Kyler Murray/Baker Mayfield/Jalen Hurts type of campaign.

2021 Preseason CFN Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year

LB Mike Rose, Sr. Iowa State

Iowa State is loaded with experienced, talented players on both sides of the ball, and RB Breece Hall and QB Brock Purdy will get all of the attention, but the 6-4, 245-pound Rose might just be the team’s best player.

He started his career with 75 tackles and a knack for coming up with a slew of big plays, followed it up with 77 tackles and more pressure into the backfield, and then came 2020.

The Cyclone star took his game to a whole other level with 96 tackles with seven interceptions and 10.5 tackles for loss, and now the do-it-all star will get to show off as the main man for another great D.

2020 Preseason CFN Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year

RB Chuba Hubbard, Jr. Oklahoma State
Texas QB Sam Ehlinger, Iowa State QB Brock Purdy, and maybe there’s a shot for Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler to rise up fast – this is a quarterback league and there are plenty of options to step up and be the star of the season.

But it’s Hubbard who should be the signature star for an Oklahoma State team that should be in for a massive season. The 6-1, 207-pound back has to hold up after handling the ball over 350 times last season, but he’s tough, fast, and he should get a whole lot more national exposure coming off a 2,094-yard, 21 touchdown campaign.

DT Darius Stills, Sr. West Virginia
Or Dante Stills. Flip a coin between the two Stills, and you might have the strongest defensive player in the Big 12. No matter what, West Virginia has a whale of an interior between these two.

The 6-3, 295-pound Dante came up with seven sacks with 11.5 tackles for loss, and Darius made 47 tackles with seven sacks and a team-high 15 tackles for loss. They’re both active, they’re both going to show off next-level skills and they’re both going to be in for big seasons.
