NBA fans had lots of jokes about Steph Curry’s new look at the NBA Draft Lottery

Steph Curry’s hair stole the show.

The NBA Draft Lottery was held on Thursday night and while the Minnesota Timberwolves won the thing and will get the No. 1 pick, there was another big winner on the night – Steph Curry’s new hairdo.

Curry, whose Golden State Warriors got the No. 2 pick in the draft, was the team’s representative and he surprised just about everyone watching on TV by showing up with some cornrows.

While others debate about whether or not Damian Lillard has more range than Steph Curry, there is no debate here – Curry’s new look stole the show Thursday night on ESPN.

And lots of NBA fans had jokes:

MLB is a bunch of cowards for not letting Trevor Bauer wear his ‘Free Joe Kelly’ cleats

MLB continues to hate fun.

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Trevor Bauer had a fun idea on Wednesday and since he plays in Major League Baseball, a league that is generally anti-fun, he wasn’t allowed to wear a pair of cleats that said “Free Joe Kelly” on them or he would face some strict punishments.

Apparently wearing those cleats is worse than cheating your way to a World Series, which the Astros did in 2017 but then didn’t have any of their players punished at all.

MLB is allowing players to put whatever they want on their cleats this season as long as its not offensive or political.

Bauer wanted to wear his cleats in tribute to Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly, who was suspended for throwing at the Astros earlier this year.

But apparently that was deemed to be very bad by MLB and not allowed. The league, according to Bauer and ESPN, threatened to eject him from the game if he wore them.

Bauer provided details after the game:

Typical MLB, which is led by the worst commissioner in sports.

Here’s what the cleats would have looked like:

Proceeds made from the cleats were going to go to Kelly’s favorite charity so hopefully MLB will just donate a bunch of money to make up for it’s lameness.

Get a sneak peek of our true crime podcast, The Sneak: Murders at Whiskey Creek

The Sneak, a serialized podcast which tells true crime stories from inside and around the world of sports, is back for its second season.

The Sneak, a serialized podcast from FTW and USA TODAY which tells true crime stories from inside and around the world of sports, is back for its second season.

This season we will tell the story of Jack Roland Murphy, AKA Murf the Surf, a national surfing champion who would become internationally famous when he robbed New York Museum of Natural History of a priceless jewel collection.

But that was just the beginning of his story. To tell it fully, you must also travel to the waters of Whiskey Creek, a small river in Florida where, over 50 years ago, the bodies of two young women were found shot, bludgeoned, and stabbed, weighed down by concrete blocks, which was connected to wire that was lashed around their necks.

And the last time they were seen alive, they were getting in a boat with Jack Roland Murphy.

Listen to the sneak peek below via Spotify, or subscribe on Apple Podcasts. You can also listen to the entire second season right now, ad free, via Wondery Plus.

Joe Rogan’s podcast goes exclusive to Spotify in a reported $100m deal

Joe Rogan inks reported massive deal as Spotify looks to strongly enter the podcast space.

The Joe Rogan Experience is heading to Spotify in an exclusive deal.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the deal is worth more than $100 million. Rogan’s podcast will stream exclusively on the Spotify platform as part of the multi-year deal.

According to TechCrunch, the show will debut on Spotify on September 1, then go exclusive to the platform later in the year.

The Joe Rogan Experience has continually dominated podcast charts for years, and has found equal footing on YouTube, where Rogan has over 8 million subscribers.

A former Fear Factor host, Rogan is a comedian and UFC commentator who has built a massive following for his podcast, which features lengthy interviews with people of note from all walks of life. It can venture into politics (not super adeptly, but there it goes all the same) but tends to stick with in-depth conversations about life, success, manhood, etc.

This is just the most recent of Spotify’s big plays to get into the podcasting space. The company acquired sports and pop culture website The Ringer, which was founded by Bill Simmons, and in doing so acquired Simmons’ podcast, as well as other podcasts started by the outlet. It also recently acquired the podcast giant Gimlet.

Bell Ringer Podcast: Rockets GM Daryl Morey says NBA will return

The Bell Ringer Podcast debates the comments made by Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey about the season returning.

Sixers Wire and the USA Today Sports Media Group is proud to present The Bell Ringer Podcast hosted by Sixers Wire editor Ky Carlin and Cameron Fields as they talk all things basketball. Not only with the Philadelphia 76ers, but in the entire NBA as a whole.

Monday’s episode focuses on hope for when the NBA can return from its current suspension. Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey recently said that the NBA will definitely return no matter what, but when and how? Also, the Sixers would currently open up as the 6 seed in the East against the Boston Celtics, can they get to the Finals? Ky also has a few Jimmy Butler media availability stories.

We discuss all of that as well as what we’re doing in quarantine right now in terms of playing video games as well as what we’re watching–hint, it’s Tiger King.

As always leave your thoughts with us on Twitter and we thank you for listening. We will continue to add new episodes whenever we can and when basketball does eventually return, we will ramp up our efforts to bring you basketball content. [lawrence-related id=28555,28548,28531]

Once again, ‘Binge Mode’ is your Ultimate Podcast Bracket champion

For a second straight year, “Binge Mode” wins the Ultimate Podcast Bracket.

It’s a back-to-back win for “Binge Mode.”

The Ringer podcast, which dives deeply into popular TV and movie series, ran the table again, beating The Pat McAfee Show in a final that saw over 100,000 votes cast.

“Binge Mode” also won the bracket last year, which makes the selection committee’s decision to give them a 3-seed even more flabbergasting. When asked about it, the committee chairman, who is me, could only offer up again the explanation that he forgot about “Binge Mode” when first making the bracket and then was too lazy to go back and change the first two seeds in the Culture/Comedy region.

It was an oversight, but one that fueled “Binge Mode” to give a nobody-believes-in-us performance for the ages and take their second consecutive win in the annual contest.

The hosts did their part to rally their fans:

Congratulations to “Binge Mode.”

Ultimate Podcast Bracket 2020: Vote in the championship

Vote in the championship of our podcast bracket, which pits No. 3 Pat McAfee Show against No. 3 Binge Mode.

And then there were two.

We have reached the championship of the 2020 Ultimate Podcast Bracket, our very serious, not at all made-up-on-the-fly bracket thing we put together.

The final two competitors are both 3-seeds: Defending champions Binge Mode and upstarts The Pat McAfee Show.

Binge Mode entered the tournament with a huge chip on its shoulder after being given a 3-seed despite coming off a title last year. When the committee explained that they got a 3-seed because the committee forgot about them for a second, and then was too lazy to go back and change the 1- and 2-seeds, it only grew their frustration. They’ve rode that energy to another title game.

The Pat McAfee Show may have had a slightly easier road to the final in terms of seeds faced, but they needed a herculean effort to take down 8-seed Shutdown Fullcast. The total amount of votes in that one contest surpassed the votes cast in entire regions for other rounds.

So here we are: The final. VOTE NOW. Polls will close at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

The Ultimate Podcast Bracket: Vote in the Final Four

We’re down to just four podcasts remaining. Vote for your favorite!

We’ve reached the Final Four of the 2020 Ultimate Podcast Bracket, brought to you by nothing. No sponsors. We just made this thing up.

In the Sweet 16, our two Cinderella stories finally came to a tragic end, as No. 8 Hardcore History fell to defending champions Binge Mode, and No. 8 Shutdown Fullcast crashed out to The Pat McAfee Show.

The Fullcast is already starting a counter-narrative campaign a la UCF, proclaiming that they are the rightful champions. Considering how stupid this all is, sure.

Now, there are only four podcasts left. All four 1-seeds have fallen, but every pod remaining is formidable. Let’s get to the matchups.

VOTE! You have until Friday at 10 a.m. ET to log your vote.

Ultimate Podcast Bracket: Vote in the Elite 8!

Vote now in the Elite 8 of our Ultimate Podcast Bracket.

We’re on to the Elite 8.

After two spirited rounds of voting in our made-up imaginary podcast bracket, we have just eight pods remaining.

We had even more fun upsets in the Sweet 16, with No. 4 My Favorite Murder knocking off juggernaut No. 1 Crime Junkie. We also had two more Cinderella stories keep their runs going, with two 8-seeds, Shutdown Fullcast and Hardcore History, keeping the magic alive.

Of the eight remaining, analysts are still tabbing defending champions Binge Mode as the odds-on favorite, but they might run into trouble in the scrappy 8-seed of Hardcore History.

As always, voting will be open until 10 a.m. ET tomorrow. VOTE NOW!
