Report: Steelers looking to re-sign RB Najee Harris ahead of free agency

Could the Steelers bring back Najee Harris?

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris finished with 1,043 rushing yards to lead the team. It was the fourth time in four seasons Harris has topped 1,000 yards. But in a league where elite running backs are the focal point of their offenses, what Harris is doing could be summed up as very average.

This certainly played a role in why the Steelers didn’t pick up Harris’ fifth-year option and why he could be hitting free agency very soon. But according to Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, there is a “strong possibility” the Steelers re-sign him sooner rather than later.

Frankly, we are torn on whether to keep Harris or not. On one hand, Harris’ effort and energy are hard to match. Harris brings his best every week. This might be the exact reason he shouldn’t come back. If the Steelers are going to lean so heavily on the run game, they need more dynamic playmakers in the backfield who offer the threat of long runs.

Insider: Steelers expected to offer Jaylen Warren a tender in 2025

Insider Gerry Dulac reports the Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to tender restricted free agent Jaylen Warren for the 2025 season.

Several enormous questions surround two of the most important positional groups for the Pittsburgh Steelers offense in 2025—who the starting quarterback and running back will be.

Jaylen Warren, having spent his first three years in the NFL with the Steel City, is expected to be offered a tender by the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Gerry Dulac.

A tender would ultimately allow Warren, who is a restricted free agent, to negotiate with other NFL teams while the Steelers retain the right to match the deal. Depending on which tender is offered, such as a restricted free agent tender, the team hoping to sign Warren would have to give up a first-, second-, or third-round pick if the Steelers choose not to match the offer.

Dulac had this to say on the matter:

“Meantime, the Steelers are expected to tender an offer to Jaylen Warren, who is a restricted free agent. At the very least, it would be a right-of-first-refusal offer that would cost them $3.185 million in 2025.”

The right-of-first-refusal offer is obviously the bare minimum of tenders, and it’s hard to imagine any of the other 31 NFL teams sending a first-, second-, or third-round draft selection in exchange for Warren.

Fox Sports commentator suggests Steelers trade for Cardinals QB Kyler Murray

A Fox Sports commentator believes the Steelers would trade for Kyler Murray, but is this a realistic move for Pittsburgh?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are no strangers to massive wide receiver trade rumors over the past several years, with speculation surrounding WRs Brandon Aiyuk, Davante Adams, D.K. Metcalf, and Cooper Kupp, just to name a few.

However, one Fox Sports commentator known for his outlandish hot takes, Nick Wright, has boldly declared that the Pittsburgh Steelers should target another position—quarterback.

Speaking with Phoenix Sports, Wright was asked how he would handle the Cardinals-Kyler Murray situation heading into 2025:

“I would call Pittsburgh and be like, ‘You want to give me a couple first-round picks?’ and then we can reboot it [trading Murray to Pittsburgh].”

As if the idea of the Steelers trading away two firsts for a struggling QB wasn’t enough, Wright continued to throw more gas on the fire:

“Kyler’s in a spot where he’s paid like a star, and he’s not quite a star. Pittsburgh would probably do it because they just need someone that’s not a bridge quarterback.”

If the Steelers are searching for something more than a bridge QB, the team should ultimately re-sign Justin Fields—not trade their future away for an unproven, injury-prone quarterback.

Could the Seahawks play in Ireland next season?

Could the Seahawks play in Ireland next season?

The NFL is perpetually on a mission to expand their brand overseas. For years, the league has held games in London, England, but in recent seasons they have expanded further. They have been to Mexico, Germany, even São Paulo, Brazil! Now, the NFL is adding a new country to their list: Ireland.

On Friday, the league announced the Pittsburgh Steelers will play in the first ever NFL game held in Ireland, and they will be the designated “home” team.

How does this impact the Seattle Seahawks? Well, Seattle is slated to play the Steelers as one of their away opponents in 2025, so that means the Hawks will be on the road to take them on. But… no one ever specified where this game will take place.

Due to the oddities a 17-game schedule presents, the Seahawks will have nine road games in 2025. This presents a rather unique opportunity for the team to perhaps spend one of those games back in Europe.

Seattle has set international precedent before, of course. Back in 2022 they were part of the first ever game played in Germany, as they took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Back then, the Seahawks were also the designated “road” team.

Could the Hawks be going from the Emerald City to the Emerald Isle? Only time will tell. For now, we will have to wait for at least the official schedule reveal later this offseason.

Steelers’ history in Ireland: Everything to know ahead of 2025 international game

The Steelers’ roots in Ireland run deep, from the Rooney family’s heritage to the team’s lasting connection with the country.

The NFL has finally announced that the Pittsburgh Steelers will play in Ireland during the 2025 regular season, with the Black and Gold designated as the Home Team for the contest. Here is a quick rundown of the history between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the great country of Ireland:

1840s:

The Rooney family emigrated from Northern Ireland to the United States of America.

1976:

Former Heinz CEO Tony O’Reilly, who had deep roots in Ireland as a legendary rugby player, and legendary former Steelers owner Dan Rooney founded the Ireland Funds organization with the hope of supporting peace and development throughout Ireland.

1997:

The Pittsburgh Steelers participated in the first—and only—NFL preseason game in Ireland against the Chicago Bears in Dublin’s Croke Park.

2009:

Dan Rooney was named U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, further strengthening the bond between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the country.

2013:

A flag football tournament was hosted at the U.S. Embassy in Ireland on the Fourth of July, with legendary Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger attending.

2023:

The Pittsburgh Steelers were awarded Ireland’s international marketing rights by the NFL, laying the foundation for what was to come.

2024:

Paudie Clifford, an Irish Gaelic footballer, helped announce a Steelers draft pick, a first for Ireland.

2025:

That brings us to the 2025 Ireland game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and their yet-to-be-named opponent. Arguably the most beloved international NFL team, the Steelers playing in Ireland is truly remarkable and something to look forward to.

Should Steelers trade Calvin Austin III for Rams star WR Cooper Kupp?

The Steelers could make a strong trade offer for Rams WR Cooper Kupp, and Calvin Austin III may be the key to making it happen.

It’s no secret that one of the biggest names on the wide receiver trade market is none other than Rams superstar Cooper Kupp. Kupp has been a staple of the Rams’ offense since being drafted in 2017, and with his time in Los Angeles eventually coming to an end, the Pittsburgh Steelers could offer a deal that no one could refuse.

One of the key speculative trade packages surrounding Kupp involves either a Day 2 or Day 3 draft selection, potentially two of the latter. However, the Rams would be losing one of their best receivers with little compensation to draft Kupp’s replacement—and that is where Pittsburgh Steelers WR Calvin Austin III comes into play.

Austin has everything the Rams would want in a short-term WR2/3 replacement for the 2025 season—he’s fast, he’s cheap, he returns punts, and he’s young.

It’s hard to argue that the Rams could receive a better package than a fifth- or sixth-rounder and Austin for Kupp. If the Pittsburgh Steelers want the former 2021 Triple Crown wide receiver in the Steel City for 2025, the team should bid farewell to Austin.

Fans react to Steelers 2025 Ireland game announcement

The NFL announced that the Pittsburgh Steelers will play in Ireland in 2025, sparking passionate reactions from fans.

Steelers fans rejoice! Long has the NFL teased the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Ireland game, and now it has been announced to take place in the 2025 regular season.

The NFL announced an expansion of its Global Market Program almost two years ago, in May 2023, and the Pittsburgh Steelers being awarded Ireland’s international marketing rights set the groundwork for the upcoming game next regular season.

Internationally beloved like no other NFL franchise, the Pittsburgh Steelers have arguably the biggest and most anticipated international game in league history heading into 2025. The only international game news that could compete with the Steelers-Ireland announcement would be the Pittsburgh Steelers potentially playing in another country, such as Mexico.

With the Black and Gold having the luxury of being designated the home team for Ireland’s first-ever regular-season game in 2025, fans are in a frenzy on social media. Here are some of the best and most passionate fan reactions to the news.

NFL reporter calls rift between Steelers OC and Russell Wilson a ploy by QB

Russell Wilson struggled down the stretch but wants everyone to believe it wasn’t his fault.

At this point, we aren’t exactly sure what is going on with the Pittsburgh Steelers and quarterback Russell Wilson. After the season, Wilson expressed his interest in returning to the Steelers and said contract talks were already happened. Then the story came out and he and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith didn’t see eye to eye on the play calling and Wilson’s decisions on the field.

But according to NFL network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, that story was just a ploy by Wilson’s representatives to help calm the waters from a dreadful stretch at the end of the season.

This would mean Wilson isn’t working with the Steelers to return and is instead trying to partake in damage control to help him in free agency. Try and convince potential teams that his abysmal play in the final month of the season somehow wasn’t his fault.

T.J. Watt finishes 4th in DPOY voting

T.J. Watt had his worst season since he was a rookie in 2024.

Thursday night the NFL Thhanded out their annual award at the NFL Honors. The only Pittsburgh Steelers who was in the running for any of the end-of-season awards was edge defender T.J. Watt. He was a finalist for Defensive Player of the Years but the odds were against him.

Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II won the award and rightfully so. Surtain was far and away the best cornerback in the NFL. Watt ended up finishing fourth behind Surtain, Bengals EDGE Trey Hendrickson and Browns EDGE Myles Garrett. Watt did get three first-place votes.

Here’s how the voting broke down for the top four.

Patrick Surtain II 26-11-2-4-1: 330
Trey Hendrickson 11-10-9-8-2: 205
Myles Garrett 5-11-12-8-5: 162
T.J. Watt 3-7-8-11-3: 114

Watt finished 2024 with 11.5 sacks. This was his worst season since his rookie year if you exclude 2022 where he missed six games with injury. Watt failed to put up any stats in the team’s final two games which was completely out of character for him and really hurt the final numbers.

The reality is Watt’s teammate, defensive tackle Cam Heyward was a far more deserving candidate after racking up eight sacks and 11 passes defended as a defensive tackle.

Steelers game in Dublin will be 2nd in team history

The Steelers played a preseason game in Dublin in 1997.

On Friday morning, the NFL announced the Pittsburgh Steelers would be playing one of the 2025 home games in Dublin, Ireland at Croke Park Stadium. This will be the league’s first regular season game in Ireland but it won’t be the first time the NFL has played a game at Croke Park. Or the first time the Steelers have played there.

Back in 1997, the Steelers and Chicago Bears squared off in a historical preseason showdown in Dublin.

Dubbed the American Bowl, it was a homecoming for the Rooney Family and the only time the NFL has played in Ireland. Head coach Bill Cowher brought his team into Croke Park Stadium and despite it only being an exhibition, put on a great show for the fans in attendance. The Steelers beat the Bears 30-17 on the strength of Kordell Stewart and Jerome Bettis.

The Steelers went on to finish 11-5 in 1997 and lost the conference championship game against the Denver Broncos.
