[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New York Yankees (93-67) welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates (75-85) to Yankee Stadium Saturday for the 2nd game of a 3-game series. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Pirates vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Pirates lead 1-0

The Yankees lost to the Pirates 4-2 Friday to commence the final series for both teams.

New York dropped 2 of 3 games to the Baltimore Orioles in the series prior. It is 7-4 over its last 11 games. The Yankees are 43-36 at home this season and 83-77 against the spread (ATS) overall. New York is 1 game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians for the top seed in the American League.

The Pirates have traded off winning and losing over their last 6 games. They dropped 2 of 3 games to both the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds in their last 2 series. Pittsburgh is 36-43 on the road and 83-77 ATS overall.

Pirates at Yankees projected starters

RHP Paul Skenes vs. RHP Luis Gil

Skenes (11-3, 1.99 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 0.96 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 11.5 K/9 through 131 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 9 K in 2-0 road victory over Reds Sunday
  • 2024 away stats: 5-2, 1.37 ERA (59 1/3 IP, 9 ER), 0.83 WHIP, 12.7 K/9 in 10 starts
  • Has never faced Yankees

Gil (15-6, 3.27 ERA) makes his 29th start. He has a 1.19 WHIP, 4.7 BB/9 and 10.2 K/9 through 146 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 5 1/3 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 5 K in 7-4 road victory over Oakland A’s Sunday
  • 2024 home stats: 6-3, 3.09 ERA (70 IP, 24 ER), 1.17 WHIP, 11.3 K/9 in 14 starts
  • Has never faced Pirates

Pirates at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 3, Yankees 2

Moneyline

BET PIRATES (+115).

The Pirates are 14-8 this season with Skenes on the mound and are an impressive 7-3 when he pitches on the road. Considering all 27 innings, they have allowed a total of 4 runs in his last 3 starts. He has been even more impressive on the road.

New York has struggled as of late, dropping 3 of its last 4 games. It has allowed 19 runs in its last 4 games. The Yankees are just 2-4 over their last 6 at home. Expect those defensive struggles to continue, and back PIRATES (+115).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

There’s no good value here. The Pirates aren’t worth a play as run-line underdogs and are far too expensive. Similarly, the Yankees may struggle to separate themselves with Skenes on the mound for Pittsburgh.

Avoid this play.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 7.5 (-120).

The Pirates have gone Under in 3 straight games and in 5 of their last 6. They have also gone Under in Skenes’ last 4 starts and tallied just 13 runs over their last 6 games. Their offense has struggled, and they have their ace on the mound.

The Yankees are 5-6-1 O/U in their last 12 and have a solid option to start the game as well. Considering the pitchers and the recent trends, take UNDER 7.5 (-120).

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Pittsburgh Pirates (74-85) and the New York Yankees (93-66) begin a 3-game interleague series Friday at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET (MLB Network/ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Pirates vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Yankees won 2-1 in 2023

The Pirates dropped 2 of 3 games against the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday through Thursday, and Pittsburgh has dropped 4 consecutive series, going 4-9 in the past 13 games since sweeping a 3-game set with the Miami Marlins Sept. 9-11.

The Under has cashed in 4 of the past 5 games for the Bucs, while going 9-3 in the previous 12 outings. In interleague play, Pittsburgh has seen the Under go 7-2 in the past 9 tries.

For the Yankees, they’ve clinched the AL East Division title and enter the weekend just 1 game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians for the top seed in the AL playoffs.

New York won 10-1 on Thursday to clinch the AL East, and it is 10-4 since Sept. 11. The Over is 4-0-1 in the past 5 outings. Against the NL, the Yankees are just 3-5 in the past 8 outings, while the Over has cashed in the past 5 interleague games at home.

Pirates at Yankees projected starters

RHP Jared Jones vs. LHP Carlos Rodon

Jones (6-8, 4.14 ERA) makes his 22nd career start. He has a 1.18 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 9.6 K/9 in 117 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 6 ER, 6 H (2 HR), 3 BB, 5 K in 7-1 road setback vs. Cincinnati Reds last Saturday
  • Career/2024 road splits: 2-5, 5.96 ERA, 48 1/3 IP, 32 ER, 46 H, 10 HR, 13 BB, 52 K, .250 opponents’ batting average (OBA), 1.22 WHIP in 9 starts
  • Last 7 games: 2-2, 4.93 ERA, 38 1/3 IP, 21 ER, 34 H, 15 BB, 40 K, 1.28 WHIP

Rodon (16-9, 3.98 ERA) makes his 32nd start. He has a 1.21 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 10.1 K/9 in 169 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 K in 10-0 road victory vs. Oakland Athletics last Saturday
  • 2024 home splits: 9-2, 3.09 ERA, 75 2/3 IP, 26 ER, 13 HR, 23 BB, 86 K, .202 OBA, 1.06 WHIP in 13 starts
  • Last 7 games: 3-2, 3.29 ERA, 38 1/3 IP, 14 ER, 10 BB, 47 K, 1.20 WHIP
  • Career vs. Pirates: 3-2, 3.99 ERA, 29 1/3 IP, 13 ER, 3 HR, 4 BB, 33 K, 1.09 WHIP in 5 starts

Pirates at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Yankees 6, Pirates 3

Moneyline

The Yankees (-185) are just a little too expensive for a standalone bet, costing you nearly 2 times your potential return. However, as part of a multi-leg parlay, it’s perfectly fine to toss the Bronx Bombers in.

For a singular bet, PASS, and look to the run line instead.

Run line/Against the spread

Back the YANKEES -1.5 (+110) at plus-money laying the run and a half.

While the Pirates +1.5 (-130) are a respectable 23-23 against left-handed starting pitchers, it’s Jones who cannot be trusted. He has been phenomenal in his 1st season in the majors at home, but on the road he has been a disaster. He has a 2-5 record with a 5.96 ERA, and the Bronx Bombers are likely to send him off into the offseason with another L.

Over/Under

OVER 8 (-115) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play.

The Yankees have cashed high on the total at a 4-0-1 clip in the past 5 games, while going Over at a 12-4 rate in the past 16 interleague contest at The Stadium.

For the Bucs, the Over has hit in just 1 of the past 5 outings. The total has gone high in 4 of the past 5 road starts for Jones, however.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Cincinnati Reds odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at Cincinnati Reds odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Pittsburgh Pirates (72-83) and the Cincinnati Reds (76-80) wrap up a 3-game series Sunday. First pitch from Great American Ball Park is set for 1:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Pirates vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Pirates lead 7-5

Regardless of what happens Sunday, the Pirates will have won the season series from the Reds, as the teams do not meet again. It gets even more difficult for Cincinnati, as it has to try to solve rookie RHP Paul Skenes.

The Pirates have struggled in this series, with the Reds outscoring them 15-4 in the 2 games, with Cincinnati cashing as a slight favorite in each outing. The Over-Under has split in the 1st 2 games of the series.

Pittsburgh has won just twice in the past 9 games, while the Under is on a 6-2 run across the past 8 outings.

Cincinnati has a winning record in September, going 12-7. The Over has connected 6 of the previous 8 contests.

RHP Hunter Greene (elbow) returns from the injured list to make his 1st start since Aug. 13, after being sidelined nearly 6 weeks due to an elbow injury.

Pirates at Reds projected starters

RHP Paul Skenes vs. RHP Hunter Greene

Skenes (10-3, 2.07 ERA) makes his 22nd start. He has a 0.98 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 11.3 K/9 in 126 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 7 K in 4-0 road setback vs. St. Louis Cardinals Monday
  • 2024 road splits: 4-2, 1.49 ERA, 54 1/3 IP, 9 ER, 3 HR, 0.87 WHIP, .175 opponents’ batting average (OBA), 14 BB, 75 K in 9 starts
  • Last 7 games: 4-2, 2.25 ERA, 40 IP, 10 ER, 13 BB, 51 K, 1.08 WHIP
  • Career/2024 vs. Reds: 2-0, 0.75 ERA, 12 IP, 1 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 16 K, .195 OBA in 2 starts

Greene (9-4, 2.83 ERA) makes his 25th start. He has a 1.02 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9 and 10.2 K/9 in 143 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 1 ER, 4 H (1 solo HR), 1 BB, 8 K in 4-1 home victory vs. St. Louis Cardinals Aug. 13
  • 2024 home splits: 5-3, 3.39 ERA, 77 IP, 29 ER, 8 HR, 1.10 WHIP, .210 OBA, 28 BB, 93 K in 13 starts
  • Last 7 games: 4-0, 0.98 ERA, 46 IP, 5 ER, 12 BB, 53 K, 0.70 WHIP
  • Career vs. Pirates: 0-3, 3.00 ERA, 33 IP, 11 ER, 2 HR, 15 BB, 47 K, 1.12 WHIP, 12.8 K/9 in 6 starts

Who’s going yard? Here’s a breakdown of today’s best home run props with our top picks. Include the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to score a $1,500 first-bet offer.

Pirates at Reds odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list of MLB odds. Lines last updated at 6:13 a.m. ET.

  • Moneyline: Pirates -120 (bet $120 to win $100) | Reds +100 (bet $100 to win $100)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Pirates -1.5 (+135) | Reds +1.5 (-160)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8 (O: -110 | U: -110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Pirates at Reds picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 3, Reds 2

Moneyline

The PIRATES (-120) are the play with Skenes on the hill, as they look to salvage at least 1 game from the season’s final meeting against the Reds (+100).

Go lightly, though, as the Bucs are just 7-7 in the past 14 starts by Skenes, as he just doesn’t get enough support. Pittsburgh has scored 3 or fewer runs in 8 of the past 10 games, too, so it really hasn’t been supporting any of its pitchers.

Run line/Against the spread

The Reds +1.5 (-160) are a little too expensive, if you woud like a little insurance. Yes, the Pirates -1.5 (+135) have had trouble with the sticks, but Greene is coming back after a 5-week stint on the injured list.

PASS, and just focus on the moneyline play.

Over/Under

UNDER 8 (-110) is the best play on the board.

Skenes has kept scores down in his starts, with the Under cashing in each of the previous 3 outings for the All-Star rookie. The Under is 1-0-1 in his 2 outings against the Reds, too.

If Greene can pitch like he was prior to his injury, that would be amazing for Under bettors. He has a minuscule 0.98 ERA in his previous 7 outings.

Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Pittsburgh Pirates (71-81) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (77-75) Thursday in the finale of a 4-game set at Busch Stadium at 7:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Pirates vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 8-4

The Pirates dropped a wild one Wednesday 10-5 as +183 underdogs. They fell behind 4-0 after 3 innings and battled back to grab a 5-4 lead in the top of the 6th before folding in the 7th when the Cardinals scored 6 times. Six Pirates had 2 hits apiece, and rookie CF Billy Cook hit his 1st major league homer.

SS Masyn Winn’s game-tying homer to lead off the bottom of the 7th started the Cardinals’ big inning, while RF Jordan Walker capped the scoring with a bases-clearing 3-run double 7 batters later. Winn, who has 14 homers, quietly is having one of the best seasons as a Cardinals shortstop over the last 20 years. Even though the Cards — who cashed as -201 favorites Wednesday — have won 3 in a row, they’re still 7 games out of a Wild Card spot and running out of runway with 10 games to go.

Pirates at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Luis Ortiz vs. RHP Erick Fedde

Ortiz (6-6, 3.45 ERA) makes his 14th start and 36th appearance. He has a 1.13 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 7.0 K/9 through 122 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 IP, 4 ER (7 R), 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K in 8-3 home setback vs. Kansas City Royals Friday
  • Career vs. Cardinals: 0-2, 14.63 ERA (8 IP, 13 ER), 14 H, 2 HR, 10 BB, 10 K in 4 games (3 starts)
  • 2024 vs. Cardinals: 1 relief appearance, 2 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 K in 7-4 home loss July 2
  • 3 career starts vs. Cardinals: 0-2, 18.00 ERA (6 IP, 12 ER) 11 H, 2 HR, 10 BB, 6 K

Fedde (8-9, 3.45 ERA) makes his 30th start this season combined between the Cardinals and Chicago White Sox. He has a 1.18 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 7.7 K/9 through 164 1/3 innings between the 2 clubs

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 3 K in 4-3 loss in 11 innings at Toronto Blue Jays Friday
  • Career vs. Pirates: 1-0, 3.60 ERA (10 IP, 4 ER), 7 H, 4 BB, 10 K in 2 starts — both in 2022 for Washington Nationals

  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Pirates +1.5 (-175) | Cardinals -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Pirates at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 5, Cardinals 4

Moneyline

The Cards have dominated this series. However, Fedde is 1-5 with a 4.43 ERA (42 2/3 IP, 21 ER) since being acquired by the Cardinals. Expect the PIRATES (+120) to bounce back.

Run line/Against the spread

Since Fedde has not settled in with his new team, I’m taking ERICK FEDDE UNDER 17.5 OUTS (-110). He has made it through 6 innings only twice in 8 of his starts with the Cardinals.

Over/Under

It’s a warm 88 degrees with a 6-mph wind blowing out to left-center in St. Louis. The bats really came out Wednesday, and I look for Busch to play similarly Thursday on a hot evening.

TAKE OVER 8.5 (-100).

Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Pittsburgh Pirates (71-80) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (76-75) Wednesday in the 3rd game of a 4-game set at Busch Stadium at 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Pirates vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 7-4

The Pirates have dropped 4 of 5 after a 3-1 final Tuesday. They have scored just 9 runs in those 5 games and have been dropped 4-0 and 3-1 in the first 2 games in the Lou. OF Bryan De La Cruz gave the Pirates an early lead with his 20th homer of the year, but they couldn’t manufacture anything else.

RHP Lance Lynn was great in what could be his final start at Busch Stadium wearing the birds on the bat. He allowed 1 run and struck out 5 over 6 IP. OF Jordan Walker turned on a fastball left up and put it in the opposing bullpen for his 4th homer of the year.

Pirates at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Jake Woodford vs. RHP Sonny Gray

Woodford (0-6, 8.01 ERA) makes his 7th start (9th appearance). He has a 1.62 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 through 30 1/3 innings between the Chicago White Sox and Pirates.

  • Last start: Loss, 3 1/3 IP, 7 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 3 K in 10-2 home defeat Aug. 24 against Cincinnati Reds
  • Has never faced Cardinals
  • Career as a starter: 4-11, 5.79 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 5.6 K/9 in 24 GS

Gray (13-9, 3.75 ERA) makes his 28th start. He has a 1.07 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 10.9 K/9 through 160 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 9 K in 6-1 home victory Thursday against Reds
  • June 12 vs. PIT: Win, 7 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 9 K in 4-2 home victory; 3-1, 3.30 ERA, 38 K’s in 30 IP last 5 GS vs. Pirates

  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Pirates +1.5 (-125) | Cardinals -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Pirates at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 5, Pirates 4

Moneyline

We cashed both of our bets here yesterday, including a +150 Cardinals RL. Woodford will be amped to pitch against his former club, but unfortunately for him, he has been throwing batting practice this year. The Cards are priced out of range, but take SONNY GRAY OVER 6.5 STRIKEOUTS (-125). He has 7+ K’s in 3 of 4 GS and whiffed 9 Buccos earlier this year.

Run line/Against the spread

I like Pittsburgh to remain competitive in this one. The Cards used closer Ryan Helsley Tuesday night, and he threw 16 pitches. He might be iffy Wednesday.

Take the PIRATES +1.5 (-125).

Over/Under

It’s slated to be 88 degrees with a 5-mph breeze blowing out to left-center. This matchup has rendered 6 straight Unders, but I feel the trend breaking Wednesday night. Woodford has been awful, and Gray has a tendency for a bad inning.

Take the OVER 8 (-105).

Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Pittsburgh Pirates (71-79) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (75-75) Tuesday in the 2nd game of a 4-game set at Busch Stadium at 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Pirates vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 6-4

Monday’s focus was on rookie phenom RHP Paul Skenes, and he was good, cashing an Over 6.5 K’s for us. Cards RHP Andre Pallante told us to hold his beer and struck out 9 Buccos over 7 shutout innings. The Bucs fell 4-0 Monday as they amassed just 4 hits. The Pirates have lost 3 of 4 as the sun is beginning to set on their season.

I mentioned the Cards do this weird thing where they get swept by a bad team and then play up to their competition. They did that against Skenes, handing him the 2nd of his 3 losses of his bright career. They scored 4 runs on 7 hits to snap a 3-game losing streak.

Pirates at Cardinals projected starters

LHP Bailey Falter vs. RHP Lance Lynn

Falter (8-7, 4.20 ERA) makes his 26th start. He has a 1.28 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 through 128 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 7 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 5 K in 3-1 home victory Wednesday against Miami Marlins
  • June 12 at St. Louis: Loss, 4 IP, 3 ER, 8 H, 1 BB, 5 K in 4-2 setback

Lynn (6-4, 3.96 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 1.36 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 8.4 K/9 through 111 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 7 K in 2-1 home win Wednesday against Cincinnati Reds
  • 2 GS vs. Pittsburgh this year: 0-0, 2.89 ERA (3 ER in 9 1/3 IP) 7 K

  • Over/Under (O/U): 8 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Pirates at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 4, Pirates 2

Moneyline

The Cards looked like the superior team Monday, and they could revert back to their typical mediocrity. So I’m not interested in them at -145.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Instead, I’ll take the risk/reward of the RL here at +150. The Pirates have scored 3 runs or fewer in 4 of 5, and the Cards’ pen is rested. Of the Cards’ 6 wins against them this season, half of them have been by multiple runs.

Take the CARDINALS -1.5 (+150).

Over/Under

It’s slated to be 84 degrees with a 6-mph wind blowing right to left. The Under has smashed in 8 of 10 meetings between the teams this season.

I’ll take the UNDER 8 (-115).

Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Pittsburgh Pirates (71-78) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (74-75) Monday in the opener of a 4-game set at Busch Stadium at 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Pirates vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 5-4

The Pirates avoided a 3-game sweep against the Kansas City Royals with a 4-3 win Sunday at basically a -108 pick’-em price. 3B Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 3-for-5 with an RBI as the Bucs improved to 5-2 over their last 7 games.

The Cardinals playoff hopes took a big hit over the weekend as they were swept in 3 at the Toronto Blue Jays. The Cards lost 4-3 in 11 innings Friday, lost 7-2 Saturday and fell 3-2 Sunday — St. Louis was a minor underdog in all 3 games. The recurring theme was what it has been all year — struggling to score runs and drive in runners in scoring position. The Cards have lost 5 of their last 7.

Pirates at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Paul Skenes vs. RHP Andre Pallante

Skenes (10-2, 2.10 ERA) makes his 21st start. The rookie has a 0.99 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 11.3 K/9 through 120 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 9 K in 3-2 home victory Sept. 9
  • Road splits: 4-1, 1.49 ERA (48 1/3 IP, 8 ER), 0.87 WHIP, 12.7 K/9 in 8 starts
  • Career vs. Cardinals: 0-1, 1.23 ERA (14 2/3 IP, 2 ER), 9 H, 1 HR, 0 BB, 16 K in 2 starts (both this season)

Pallante (6-8, 4.13 ERA) makes his 18th start (27th appearance). He has a 1.40 WHIP, 4.0 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 through 102 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 5 BB, 6 K in 3-0 home setback to Cincinnati Reds Tuesday
  • Home splits: 4-5, 4.73 ERA (53 1/3 IP, 28 ER), 1.52 WHIP, 7.1 K/9 in 13 games (9 starts)
  • Career vs. Pirates: 0-1, 3.33 ERA (27 IP, 10 ER), 1.26 WHIP, 4.3 K/9 in 15 games (2 starts)
  • Career starts vs. Pirates: 0-0, 1.38 ERA (13 IP, 2 ER), 0.77 WHIP, 8 K in 2 starts (both this season)

Pirates at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 4, Cardinals 2

Moneyline

The Cardinals have this weird thing of playing up to their competition. But Pallante has looked gassed. He has given up 8 earned runs over 10 innings in his last 2 starts. If he gives up half of that, it’s over against Skenes.

TAKE PIRATES (-145).

Run line/Against the spread

Of Pittsburgh’s 4 wins against St. Louis this year, only 1 of them was by multiple runs. While I’m forecasting a multi-run victory, I’ll be BETTING PAUL SKENES OVER 6.5 K’S (-120). He had 8 K’s in each of his 2 starts vs. the Cardinals.

Over/Under

The books have this one on point. There were 2-1 finals in both of Skenes’ starts against the Cards this year — 1 win and 1 loss. The wild card is Pallante, who looks cooked with awful control.

LEAN UNDER 7 (-105) or stay away.

Kansas City Royals at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Kansas City Royals at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Pittsburgh Pirates (70-76) welcome the Kansas City Royals (80-67) to PNC Park Friday for the 1st game of a 3-game series. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Royals vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Pirates won all 3 meetings in 2023

The Royals, who are 2nd in the AL Central, lost to the New York Yankees 4-3 Wednesday as a +129 underdog. Kansas City lost 2 of 3 to the Yankees, but swept the Minnesota Twins in a 3-game series prior to that. It is 5-9 over its last 14. Kansas City is 35-37 on the road and 82-65 against the spread (ATS).

The Pirates are riding a 4-game winning streak, having swept the Miami Marlins in their last series. They won the finale in that home series 3-1 Wednesday, closing as a -143 favorite. Pittsburgh is 7-3 over its last 10 games and 37-38 at home on the season. It is 79-67 ATS.

Royals at Pirates projected starters

Undecided vs. RHP Luis Ortiz

With odds up and no starting pitcher for Kansas City, when and who the Royals place on the mound to start the game isn’t expected to heavily impact the odds of the game.

Ortiz (6-5, 3.26 ERA) makes his 13th start and 35th appearance. He has a 1.11 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 in 118 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K in 5-3 home loss to the Washington Nationals Saturday
  • 2024 home stats: 2-2, 3.65 ERA (61 2/3 IP, 25 ER), 1.14 WHIP, 5.7 K/9 in 17 appearances (6 starts)
  • Career vs. Royals: 1-0, 1.80 ERA (5 IP, 1 ER), 1.00 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 in 1 start

Who’s going yard? Here’s a breakdown of today’s best home run props with our top picks. Include the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to score a $1,500 first-bet offer.

Royals at Pirates odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list of MLB odds. Lines last updated at 6:36 a.m. ET.

  • Moneyline (ML): Royals +105 (bet $100 to win $105) | Pirates -130 (bet $130 to win $100)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Royals -1.5 (+170) | Pirates +1.5 (-210)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Royals at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 5, Royals 3

Moneyline

BET PIRATES (-130).

The Pirates are hot, and Ortiz is among their best options to start the game. He’s been solid for the Pirates, and they are 2-1 in his last 3 starts, having allowed just 8 runs in those 3 games combined.

The Royals have been streaky. From Aug. 28-Sept. 3, they had a 7-game losing streak then followed that up with 4 straight wins. Having lost 2 of their last 3, they may continue to struggle Friday. Kansas City is 19-28 as a road underdog.

Take PIRATES (-130).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

There’s no great value here. The Pirates are far too expensive as a run-line underdog and aren’t worth a play there, and the Royals aren’t worth the risk as a run-line favorite. Avoid this wager.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (-115).

The Royals have gone Under in 6 of their last 7 games and have allowed 0 runs in 3 of their last 6. Kansas City has scored 5 or fewer runs in every game since Aug. 27 (13 games). It is 66-77-4 O/U on the season.

The Pirates have gone Under in 2 of their last 3.  Pittsburgh has gone Under in Ortiz’s last 5 starts as well. Back UNDER 8.5 (-115).

Miami Marlins at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Miami Marlins at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Marlins (54-89) and Pittsburgh Pirates (67-76) open up a 3-game series Monday at PNC Park at 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Marlins vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Pirates lead 4-0

The Marlins come to town after a surprising series win over the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend. They took Sunday’s game 10-1 as 3B Connor Norby hit 2 homers and drove in 4. The Fish are 6-4 in their last 10 games.

The Pirates split a 4-game series with the Washington Nationals over the weekend. They took Sunday’s affair 7-3. They slugged homers from C Joey Bart, OF Andrew McCutchen and OF Michael A. Taylor. The Pirates are 5-5 over the last 10.

Marlins at Pirates projected starters

RHP Valente Bellozo vs. RHP Paul Skenes

Bellozo  (2-2, 3.78 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.28 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 in 47 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 K in 4-3 home win in 10 innings Wednesday against Washington Nationals
  • Has never faced Pirates
  • Road/Home splits: 1-0, 3.42 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 6.5 K/9 in 5 road GS; 1-2, 4.22 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 5.9 K/9 in 4 home GS

Skenes (9-2, 2.13 ERA) makes his 20th start. He has a 0.98 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 11.2 K/9 in 114 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 4 BB, 6 K in 5-0 victory Tuesday at Chicago Cubs
  • Hasn’t faced Marlins
  • Home/Road splits: 5-1, 2.60 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 10.1 K/9 in 11 home GS; 4-1, 1.49 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, 12.7 K/9 in 8 road starts

Marlins at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 5, Marlins 2

Moneyline

No one is going to be placing a -275 bet on the Pirates hosting a Fish Fry. If so, what in the world kind of partying is taking place this afternoon?

So let’s look elsewhere. The Marlins have a better chance of attending the aforementioned party and making contact with a piñata than they do at hitting Skenes. He only has 6 K’s in his last 2 starts, but I’m taking PAUL SKENES OVER 6.5 K’S (-165).

BetMGM has a 33% MLB boost today with minimum odds of -300. That will bring the odds down to -125.

Run line/Against the spread

The Bucs have won 5 straight against the Fish, and 4 of the 5 were by multiple runs. Bellozo has a tough, menacing name, but he had just 1 K in 2 of his last 3 starts and gave up 5+ ER in the same.

Take a chance on the PIRATES -1.5 (-125). If you prefer to use the 33% odds boost here, it takes it to +106.

Over/Under

It’s slated to be 72 degrees with a 9-mph gust blowing out to center. The Bucs are 6-4 O/U in their last 10, and the Fish are 5-5. All 4 meetings went Over, but those took place back in March, and Skenes was not part of them.

I’ll take the UNDER 7.5 (-105).

Analyzing Thursday’s Washington Nationals at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Washington Nationals (62-77) and Pittsburgh Pirates (65-74) open a 4-game set Thursday. First pitch from PNC Park is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Nationals vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Pirates lead 2-1

The Nationals fell 4-3 in 10 innings against the Miami Marlins Wednesday as -138 road favorites. Washington erased a 2-run deficit with a 3-run 8th inning, but RP Jose Ferrer allowed a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the 8th and RP Derek Law gave up a walk-off RBI single in the 10th.

The Pirates snapped a 2-game winning streak Wednesday with a 12-0 loss against the Chicago Cubs as +177 road underdogs. Pittsburgh was the victim of a no-hitter while SP Domingo German allowed 6 ER in 3 innings to pick up the loss.

Nationals at Pirates projected starters

RHP Jake Irvin vs. LHP Bailey Falter

Irvin (9-11, 4.08 ERA) makes his 29th start. He has a 1.19 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 7.6 K/9 through 161 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 2/3 IP, 7 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 6 K in 7-6 home setback against Cubs Friday
  • Has never faced Pirates

Falter (6-7, 4.41 ERA) makes his 24th start. He has a 1.29 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 6.3 K/9 through 116 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 1 BB, 2 K in 10-8 loss at Cleveland Guardians Friday
  • Career vs. Nationals: 3-0, 2.22 ERA (24 1/3 IP, 6 ER), 1.07 WHIP, 8.5 K/9 in 7 appearances (4 starts), including 1-0 with 1.50 ERA (6 IP, 1 ER) in 1 start last year

Nationals at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 4, Nationals 3

Moneyline

BET PIRATES (-120).

Washington has lost 4 of its last 5 games and scored 3 or fewer runs in 3 of its last 4. Irvin has struggled recently. The Nationals have gone 2-4 in his last 6 starts, with him allowing 4 or more ER in 4 of the 6 outings. Pittsburgh has won 2 of its last 3 games and 3 of its last 5. It has scored 5 runs in 2 of its last 3.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

There is better value on the Pirates’ ML.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (-115).

The Nationals have hit the Under in 8 of their last 10 games, including 3 of their last 4. They scored 3 runs or fewer in each of the 3 Unders and have put up 4 or fewer in 6 of their last 10 games. The Pirates were held hitless Wednesday and will expectedly bounce back; however, they have scored 3 or fewer runs in 3 of their last 5 games.
