The Seahawks are releasing cornerback Pierre Desir, according to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network.

The Seahawks are releasing cornerback Pierre Desir, according to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network.

Desir has bounced around a lot since the Browns picked him in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft. He put in two years in Cleveland, three with the Colts and one each with the Ravens, Chargers and Jets. This was Desir’s second stint in Seattle – he spent part of the 2016 season on their practice squad. All together, he’s appeared in 73 career games, totaling eight interceptions and 200 solo tackles.

Desir’s release is likely to make room for tight end Luke Willson, who is expected to re-sign with the Seahawks.

Seahawks make signing of cornerback Pierre Desir official

The Seattle Seahawks have officially announced the signing of veteran, free-agent cornerback Pierre Desir for his second stint with the team.

The Seattle Seahawks have now confirmed the signing of veteran, free-agent cornerback Pierre Desir. His agency, EnterSports Management first announced the deal earlier this week.

This will mark Desir’s second stint in the Emerald City. He was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Browns. He then signed with Seattle as a member of the practice squad in 2016 and inked a futures contract for the next season but failed to make the 53-man roster cuts after training camp that year.

He has since spent time with the Colts, Jets, and Ravens.

Desir will add a veteran presence to the Seahawks secondary and undoubtedly compete for a starting spot this season.

A familiar face will be returning to the Seattle Seahawks secondary. Free-agent cornerback Pierre Desir has agreed to terms on a one-year deal to return to the Emerald City, according to his agency, EnterSports Management.

Desir was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Browns. He landed in Seattle as a member of the practice squad in 2016 and signed a futures contract for the next season but failed to make the 53-man roster cuts after training camp that year. He has since spent time with the Colts, Jets, and Ravens.

The Seahawks have a couple of vacancies to fill in the secondary and Desir’s veteran experience could net him a roster spot heading into the season.

Former Ravens CB Pierre Desir donates 10,000 meals to the Houston Food Bank

Former Baltimore Ravens and current free agent cornerback Pierre Desir donated 10,000 meals to the Houston Food Bank.

More than half a million people in Texas have no power or running water after a powerful winter storm ravaged the state earlier this week. Former Baltimore Ravens and current free agent cornerback Pierre Desir is doing his part to help the people of Houston get through the arctic blast, donating 10,000 meals to the Houston Food Bank, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Desir has no connection to Houston but felt it was the right thing to do, according to his agent via ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. Desir is no stranger to working off the field to improve communities. Desir was the New York Jets’ 2020 Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee for his work to combat bullying. Desir was also the Indianapolis Colts’ Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee in 2019, donating $185,000 to help with the cost of a performance center at the high school he attended in St. Charles, Missouri.

The Ravens signed Desir last season after injuries had ravaged their secondary. At one point, Baltimore had five cornerbacks on injured reserve and a total of 22 players on a long-term injury list. Desir played in three games with the Ravens, allowing just one completion which he stopped for a tackle for a loss.

Jets’ Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee Pierre Desir is a Baltimore Raven

Pierre Desir is on the Baltimore Ravens after being cut by the Jets, who made him their Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee

When you are 0-12. nothing — and we mean nothing — should surprise you.

The New York Jets make wrong call after wrong call. On Thursday, the NFL revealed its Walter Payton Man of the Year Award nominees. And when the name for the Jets’ person was revealed, it was a player who is no longer on the team.

Yes, the Jets’ nominee for the prestigious honor is no longer a New York Jet. Pierre Desir was cut in November. He does still lead Gang Green in picks.

Desir currently plays for the Baltimore Ravens. A Jets spokesman said Desir was nominated prior to his release, and “his tremendous work in the anti-bullying space earned him our nomination.”

A native of Haiti, Desir donated $185,000 to build a performance center at the high school he attended in St. Charles, Missouri, among his other charitable participation.

In classic Jets fashion, the nomination was ignored on the team’s website.

Each nominee receives a donation of $40,000 to the charity of his choosing, with the winner earning a $250,000 charitable donation in his name. The winner will be revealed during the league’s award show, NFL Honors, the night before Super Bowl LV.

Ravens have 2 Walter Payton Man of the Year nominees thanks to the Jets

CB Pierre Desir now plays for the Baltimore Ravens, making his nomination as the Jets’ Walter Payton Man of the Year a little awkward

The New York Jets seemingly can’t get anything right this season.

As all 32 teams nominated one of their own players for the 2020 Walter Payton Man of the Year award on Thursday, the Baltimore Ravens actually have two players on the list. No, they didn’t cheat and sneak an extra player into the running. Instead, New York nominated cornerback Pierre Desir, who was recently released by the team and signed by Baltimore. Of the 32 nominees, Desir is the only player currently with another team.

Granted, it’s not like the Jets ran an all-out blitz at this award or anything. But for a franchise that is struggling in just about every way imaginable, New York really didn’t need yet another thing people can point and laugh about. Currently sitting at 0-12 on the season, there’s not exactly a lot of hope the Jets will win a game this season. They have four more games remaining, all against playoff-hopeful teams.

With the seat getting hotter for both coach Adam Gase and general manager Joe Douglas, this gaffe might not be the thing that gets them fired but it is a silly black eye that neither could much afford.

The Ravens nominated left guard Bradley Bozeman, who is seemingly a perfect fit for the award thanks to his tireless work both in Baltimore’s communities and against childhood bullying around the country.

Ravens activate CB Anthony Averett from injured reserve, 2 others from practice squad

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Anthony Averett is promoted to 53-man roster ahead of Week 13 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Baltimore Ravens activated cornerback Anthony Averett from injured reserve to the 53-man roster ahead of a Week 13 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday, according to the NFL’s transaction report.

Averett has been off the field since Week 6 after he suffered a shoulder injury against the Philadelphia Eagles. Averett came off injured reserve on Friday with a “designated to return” label, giving him time to practice with the team and get back up to speed. Averett is expected to suit up against the Cowboys and provide depth to a Ravens secondary that has been banged up all-season.

In total, Baltimore had five cornerbacks on injured reserve at one point this season. The Ravens lost cornerback Tavon Young to a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 while Iman Marshall and Khalil Dorsey were also put on injured reserve after their respective injuries.

But it’s not just players on injured reserve that’s making Baltimore’s cornerback depth disappear. Both Jimmy Smith and Tramon Williams are listed as inactive for Tuesday’s game against the Cowboys due to injuries, putting more pressure on the group — including Averett — to perform against a very capable Dallas passing attack. Smith did not practice this week after suffering a groin injury in Week 12 against the Steelers. Williams, who signed with Baltimore in November because of an injured-filled secondary is also inactive due to a thigh injury.

In other moves, the Ravens also activated tight end Eric Tomlinson and cornerback Pierre Desir from the practice squad. Tomlinson played Wednesday in Pittsburgh following tight end Mark Andrews being put on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Desir last played in Week 9 for the New York Jets.

Ravens set to sign CB Pierre Desir

The Baltimore Ravens headed back to free agency to find more help at cornerback with Pierre Desir after injuries have ravaged the position.

[jwplayer k5kVY7nR-ThvAeFxT]

The Baltimore Ravens might just be one of the most injured teams this season. One place they’ve gotten hit hardest is at cornerback, seeing five players at the position head to injured reserve. With the season hanging in the balance for Baltimore in the coming weeks, they’re looking to add some more talent to the roster for a late-season playoff push.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Ravens are expected to sign cornerback Pierre Desir once he clears the COVID-19 testing protocol. Though that means he won’t be eligible to play this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night, he would be available for Week 13 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Desir was a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. However, he’s bounced around the league in the time since, playing for the then-San Diego Chargers, Indianapolis Colts, and most recently, the New York Jets.

Over 70 career games, Desir has started 44 and come down with eight interceptions, 42 passes defensed, and 257 tackles. Through nine games this season, Desir has allowed 39-of-51 targets to be completed (76.5%) for 525 yards and four touchdowns, with a 110.3 passer rating.

Report: Jets cut ties with Pierre Desir after just 9 games

The Jets released Pierre Desir after nine games with the team.

Pierre Desir’s career with the Jets left a lot to be desired.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Jets are releasing the cornerback after just nine games with the team. He will go on waivers. Any team that claims Desir will have to pick up his remaining salary.

Joe Douglas signed Desir to a one-year deal worth $5.5 million in the offseason. The plan was for Desir to be the Jets’ No. 1 cornerback, but he was far from one in his brief tenure with the team.

According to Pro Football Focus, Desir had a 47.8 overall grade this season, which ranks 71st among 75 qualified cornerbacks. Desir has been targeted 47 times this season and has allowed 35 receptions.

In nine games, Desir has registered 47 total tackles, eight pass defenses, three interceptions and one defensive touchdown. But his effort came into question last week against New England. Desir jogged after a Patriots wide receiver and it led to his benching for the final three minutes of the game.

It was not the first time Desir was benched this season.

Desir’s release will open up some more opportunities for rookie Bryce Hall and the recently acquired Corey Ballantine. Bless Austin will likely slide into the No. 1 cornerback spot.

The Desir signing was a big miss by Douglas. Clearly, Desir was supposed to be a short-term fix with a one-year deal, but he couldn’t even finish out his contract.

Instant Analysis: Jets’ comeback attempt falls short in 4th consecutive loss

Jets Wire breaks down New York’s Week 4 loss to the Broncos.

The Broncos entered Week 4 with Brett Rypien — a third-string quarterback who Avery Williamson admitted he had no idea existed prior to this week — under center. They were also without star wide receiver Courtland Sutton, running back Phillip Lindsay and a large chunk of their starting defense.

And the Jets still couldn’t beat them.

Despite featuring a superior team for once, New York could not get the job done against Denver on Thursday Night Football, falling in the final minutes by a final score of 37-28. Gang Green’s latest loss might have been a close one that came down to the wire, but it was arguably the most embarrassing of the season considering the Jets had the talent advantage and lost to an undrafted free agent quarterback making his first career start on a short week.

The Jets are now 0-4 and the laughing stock of the NFL. Adam Gase will likely survive his latest loss, but his time in the Big Apple is undoubtedly running short. At this point, it’s a matter of when, not if.

Game Balls

Jamison Crowder: As expected, Crowder was Sam Darnold’s favorite target on Thursday night, catching seven of his nine targets for 104 yards. The Jets might not be a good team, but at least they have a talented slot receiver like Crowder as a bright spot.

Jeff Smith: Smith made a major impact in his return from injured reserve, catching seven passes for 81 yards, including a 21-yard reception in the second quarter. Smith’s numbers might not be eye-popping, but he was a key component in New York’s offense on Thursday night.

Sam Ficken: Ficken nailed all five of his field goal attempts against the Broncos, including a 54-yard boot and a go-ahead 36-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. The Penn State product has drawn plenty of criticism throughout his time with the Jets, but he was on the money in Week 4.

Quick Thoughts

-So…Mekhi Becton wasn’t healthy enough to start, but he was healthy enough to take over for Chuma Edoga on New York’s first series? What exactly was the logic there?

-Sam Darnold or Lamar Jackson? What a way for the Jets to take their first lead of 2020 — and for Darnold to etch his name into franchise lore with the longest ever rushing touchdown by a Gang Green quarterback.

-Big TFL for undrafted free agent Bryce Huff to force the Broncos into attempting a field goal on their first drive of the game. Could New York have something in the Memphis product?

-Six personal fouls on Gregg Williams’ defense. Absolutely no discipline from what is supposed to be New York’s strongest unit.

-Speaking of a lack of discipline, Quinnen Williams just can’t get out of his own way with the mistakes he makes on a weekly basis. The penalties he gets flagged for are inexcusable — especially for a former top-five draft pick.

-Maybe the 49ers’ gripe with MetLife Stadium’s turf was warranted. Lawrence Cager’s injury gives credence to their claim of the playing surface being unsafe.

-Awful red zone play-calling by Adam Gase throughout the game. Consecutive runs up the middle with Frank Gore aren’t going to get the job done. Why not let Darnold air it out?

-It’s extremely head-scratching why Alec Ogletree is getting more playing time than Williamson. Ogletree just doesn’t have it anymore, yet the Jets insist on playing him.

-Darnold looks his most comfortable orchestrating an up-tempo offense. Gase should consider running some more no-huddle and a faster pace to play to his quarterback’s strengths.

-Gase’s refusal to use La’Mical Perine is absurd. Let’s face it, the Jets are going nowhere in 2020. Why is 37-year-old Frank Gore taking all of the carries while Perine languishes on the sideline? He’s not going to develop if he doesn’t get the ball.

-Gase’s play call on New York’s two-point conversion attempt in the fourth was…not smart. Why roll Darnold out on the two-yard line and take away half the field? It plays to his strengths to get him out of the pocket, but not in such a condensed area.

-Ficken was on the hot seat all summer and delivered a cold-blooded performance against the Broncos. It’s only right to give credit where credit is due.

-Chris Herndon has been bad this season. So much for his standout training camp.

-New York’s makeshift offensive line finally caught up to it with the game on the line. It’s a wonder the group didn’t collapse sooner than it did.

-Well, you can officially put a nail in the coffin of the Jets’ 2020 season. If New York can’t beat a downtrodden Denver squad, who can it beat? It’s going to be a rough next two months at One Jets Drive.
