Cotton Bowl Photos – Best pics and images from Texas’ loss to Ohio State in CFP semifinal

Texas loses to Ohio State in the CFP semifinal Cotton Bowl. Check out the best photos and images from the Longhorns final game of the season.

It will go down as a night of “what ifs” for the Texas Longhorns, who fell short in the college football playoffs semifinal against Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl.

Despite being an underdog and despite being totally outplayed for much of the game, the Longhorns had the game tied with a great chance to win in the fourth quarter.

But a long Buckeyes drive orchestrated by OSU QB Will Howard, followed by a red zone disaster by the Longhorns on the next drive that ended in a Quinn Ewers fumble scoop and score on an 83-yard fumble return by Jack Sawyer finished UT off.

Ohio State wins the Cotton Bowl 28-14 to advance to the CFP national title game, while Texas’ season is over.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian will now try to find out how the program can take the next step after being eliminated in the semis two years in a row. The countdown starts on the 2025 season, one which will start the way 2024 ended … against Ohio State. Next time, Texas will be helmed by Arch Manning.

The Oregon Ducks football team walked into the Rose Bowl as the No. 1 ranked and No. 1 seeded team in the College Football Playoff and when they walked out of the Rose Bowl, the season was over.

A disastrous first half that saw Ohio State claim a 34-0 lead and then eventually defeat the Ducks 41-21. The Buckeyes move on to the semifinals where Texas awaits them in the Cotton Bowl.

Oregon had an incredible regular season where they went 12-0 and then a Big Ten championship with a win over Penn State. But three weeks off, a hot Ohio State team and injuries to key players was just too much to overcome for Oregon who now is suddenly staring the offseason in the face.

It’s too soon to look back on what was a historic 2024 season where the Ducks entered the Big Ten Conference and not only showed they belonged but could be a great team for years to come. The new kids on the block are here to stay and this was just the first of possibly many conference titles.

Here are the best photos from a somber Rose Bowl appearance for the Ducks.

The best photos from Michigan football’s shocking win over Alabama

What a game! What a WIN! #GoBlue

TAMPA, Fla. — No one, and we mean no one, thought Michigan football stood much of a chance in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama. The Crimson Tide were hoping for an invitation to the College Football Playoff and were looking for revenge against the Wolverines after the 30-24 win in the Rose Bowl a calendar year ago.

But wet and slippery conditions early, mixed with dominant defensive line play meant Alabama turned the ball over early and often. The Wolverines capitalized and then held on for dear life.

It came down to the end, much like the last meeting, and the maize and blue prevailed, winning the ReliaQuest Bowl, 19-13. They finish 8-5 in Sherrone Moore’s first year.

WolverinesWire’s Isaiah Hole was on the sidelines to capture the action. Here are our favorite pictures from the game.

Quick photo highlights from Michigan football bowl practice day two

Some cool stuff here! #GoBlue

TAMPA, Fla. — Michigan football is another day into preparation for Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl and the Wolverines took the field for the second straight day at Tampa (Florida) Jesuit for practice.

On Friday, we took time to look around and see what each position group was doing. However, on Saturday, we spent the entirety of the time watching the quarterbacks work through their drills.

From handoffs to rollouts to quick passes in the flat to more downfield throws, we got to see Davis Warren, Alex Orji, Jadyn Davis and Bryce Underwood all get time under center as you would expect. But there were also a few notable names on the sideline watching them. Here is what we were able to capture in our 15 minutes on the sideline.

Lots of first looks at early enrollees and much more! #GoBlue

TAMPA, Fla. — The last time Michigan football played in Tampa, in what was then the Outback Bowl, all of the hype surrounding the team was about a quarterback who was incoming. Apparently, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

In 2017, that quarterback was transfer Shea Patterson, who was the top signal-caller in his class (2016). But unlike in 2024, Patterson hadn’t joined his team. In 2024, that QB is Bryce Underwood, who cannot play until next year, but as an early enrollee is free to partake in everything that the Wolverines are doing in preparation for the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Whether it’s early enrollees (Underwood, LB Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, five-star OT Andrew Babalola, WRs Andrew Marsh and Jamar Browder, OG Avery Gach were all spotted and photographed, we also saw Bobby Kanka, Julius Holly, and Eli Owens) or players getting ready, we made it to Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit to see the maize and blue in action at the beginning of the first practice for the matchup against Alabama.

Here are some pictures we managed to snag.

Final Stats, best pics from Cowboys’ big win over Bucs despite elimination

The Cowboys have won four of their last five games, winning over the Bucs in one of their hardest-hitting performances of 2024. | From @KDDrummondNFL

The Dallas Cowboys knew they weren’t making it to the playoffs this season, but they didn’t play like it. Eliminated earlier in the afternoon when Washington pulled out a last-second win over Philadelphia, the Cowboys had no inclination of mailing things in.

With no incentive to playing down-roster guys just to help the organization, lame-duck coach Mike McCarthy’s troops put their best foot forward, dominating the still-playoff hopeful Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Cowboys’ defense used relentless pressure on QB Baker Mayfield and unyielding hitting on ball carriers to bully their way to a double-digit lead in the third quarter.

Despite letting the Bucs make the game close and have a last chance to win, the Cowboys beared down and left AT&T with their second home win of the season, 26-24. Despite being eliminated from the playoffs, Dallas kept their hope of finishing above .500 alive and improved to 7-8.

Cooper Rush played his best game of the season, throwing for 292 yards and only having one egregious head scratcher of a throw. He focused his attention on CeeDee Lamb in the first half as the wide receiver crossed the 100-catch threshold with 100 yards through two quarters.

The defense, led by Micah Parsons and a turnover-focused secondary, corralled one of the league’s hottest offenses. Corners Jourdan Lewis and DaRon Bland made huge fourth-quarter plays, ripping balls away from ball carriers to thwart both a touchdown and a game extender with time running out.

Dallas will now prepare for their rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17. Here’s a look at the stats and some great captures from the wonderful photographers of USA Today Images and Getty Images.

PHOTOS: Alabama basketball routs Kent State at Coleman Coliseum

Our best photos from Alabama’s 81-54 win over Kent State Sunday at Coleman Coliseum.

The sixth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide didn’t want another close call like the one they had earlier in the week at North Dakota.

No worries there. Alabama’s defense suffocated Kent State Sunday at Coleman Coliseum for an 81-54 victory.

The Crimson Tide (10-2 overall) held the Golden Flashes (8-3) to 28 percent shooting, including a 2-of-27 showing from three-point range. Mark Sears had 16 points to lead Alabama, which got 13 off the bench from Auburn transfer Aden Holloway.

The Crimson Tide led 39-24 at halftime and would go up by as many as 32 in the second half to shut the door on a Kent State team that owns the best overall record in the MAC standings.

Alabama heads into its Christmas break with four straight wins and will return to Coleman Coliseum on Sunday, Dec. 29 when they welcome the South Dakota State Jackrabbits to Tuscaloosa for a 2 p.m. CT scheduled tipoff. The game can be seen on ESPN+.

Photo Gallery: The Oregon Ducks hammered Washington at a chilly night inside. Autzen Stadium.

It was a chilly Autzen Saturday for the last day of November, but it was the Ducks that gave the Huskies the cold shoulder.

Oregon defeated the Washington Huskies for the first time in four tries and the first victory over the Dawgs in the Dan Lanning Era.  The Ducks dominated the Huskies in the second half en route to a 49-21 victory to secure their first perfect 12-0 regular season since 2010.

The Ducks scored on their first possession on Noah Whittington’s 9-yard run and never looked back. Despite the chilly temperatures, the 59,603 inside Autzen Stadium didn’t care. Oregon was defeating the Huskies and for a few moments, everything was right in the world.

With Davis Love III’s granddaughter’s approval, RSM Classic merch tent has toasty offerings

When Davis Love III says the RSM Classic is a family affair, he isn’t just providing lip service.

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — When Davis Love III says the RSM Classic is a family affair, he isn’t just providing lip service.

As part of the pre-tournament press conferences, Love brought his granddaughter Eloise to the podium, and she explained how a hat she picked up at the tournament’s merchandise shop last year was so popular that she was offered money for it.

“Somebody asked me if they could buy it from me and I said yes, because why not?” she said. “I don’t know who it was, I kind of forgot, but somebody did and my mom got really mad at me.”

Davis Love elaborated.

“She kept getting asked and we said, well, why don’t you just sell it right off your head to the highest bidder? She came running in the next day, ‘$106!'”

Hats are some of the more popular items at the Sea Island Golf Club merch tent, some for fashion’s sake and some for practicality. Chilly temps on Thursday morning made knit hats something of a priority.

Also among the offerings are some baseball caps donning the number 15, which is how many years the tournament has been played.

And it’s possible you’ll see Eloise working in the stand if you drop by on the weekend.

“It’s good. We’re having a lot of sales. It’s very fun to work there,” she said.

Here’s a look at the merch tent’s offerings:
