Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Anaheim Ducks (26-32-8) head West on their road trip to meet the Colorado Avalanche (40-18-7) at Pepsi Center in Denver at 9:30 p.m. ET Wednesday. We analyze the Ducks-Avalanche sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Ducks at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

John Gibson vs. Pavel Francouz

Gibson has dropped two straight decisions coming into Wednesday. He gave up four goals on 24 shots in a loss to the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday, but is expected to get the nod once again. He is 19-26-5 with a .902 save percentage and 3.05 goals against average.

Francouz is on a six-game win streak with just 2 goals allowed in each of his last three outings. He is 19-5-3 with a .929 SV% and 2.24 GAA on the season.

Ducks at Avalanche: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 10:25 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Ducks 1

Moneyline (ML)

The Avalanche (-334) are a good bet to knock off the Ducks (+260), who were crushed in Chicago last night and will be playing in a back-to-back situation. Anaheim is 2-5 in the past seven games in the second end of a back-to-back situation. They’re also just 2-6 in the past eight overall and 19-40 in the past 59 on the road.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Avalanche to win returns a profit of $3, while a $10 wager on the Ducks results in a profit of $26.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The AVALANCHE (-1.5, -110) are a good bet against the Ducks (+1.5, -110), who are limping to the end of their road trip. Colorado has won seven in a row, and it’s a perfect 4-0 in the past four against losing teams, too. The Avs are a good bet as a favorite, as well, cashing in 13 of the past 16. While Anaheim is 30-14 in the past 44 in this series, and 13-6 in the past 19 trips to Denver, take the home side. The Avalanche are a legitimate Stanley Cup contender and won’t be derailed by this bunch of Ducks.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (+105) is a good small-unit play based upon the Avalanche’s total trends. The Under is a perfect 11-0 in their past 11 games as a favorite, 5-0 in their past five at home as a favorite and 8-0 in their past eight against teams with a losing overall record. That makes an Under bet at plus-money a very good value.

Colorado Avalanche at Carolina Hurricanes odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Colorado Avalanche at Carolina Hurricanes sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche (37-18-7) continue their road trip against the Carolina Hurricanes (35-23-4) Friday at PNC Arena at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Avalanche-Hurricanes sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Avalanche at Hurricanes: Projected starting goalies

Pavel Francouz vs. Anton Forsberg

Francouz has been tremendous since stepping up in place of the injured Philipp Grubauer, and the rookie has a 17-5-3 record, 2.26 goals against average and .927 save percentage for the season. He’ll be looking to help the Avs to a revenge win over the Canes after Carolina won 3-1 Dec. 19 in Denver.

Forsberg has yet to appear in a game this season for the Hurricanes. He went 10-16-4 across 30 starts and five relief appearances with the Chicago Blackhawks last year, posting a .908 SV% and 2.97 GAA.

Avalanche at Hurricanes: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Hurricanes 2

Moneyline (ML)

The AVALANCHE (-106) are slight dogs on the road, but they’re a good play against the banged-up Hurricanes (-115). Carolina is experiencing adversity in the form of injuries, and it will be interesting to see if the Canes have a little pride Friday night at PNC.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Avalanche ML returns a profit of $9.50 if they win, while a $10 wager on the Hurricanes ML results in a profit of $8.70.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

This one should be a nip and tuck game, as the Avalanche (+1.5, -278) are grinding out a road trip and might have some tired legs, and the Hurricanes (-1.5, +225) are a little desperate at the moment. Look for a lot of tight-checking. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+115) at plus-money is worth a roll of the dice. The Under has cashed in 10 of the past 11 games overall for Colorado, including each of its last five road outings. The Under is 6-1 in the Avs’ past seven against the Eastern Conference, too. The Over is 9-3 in Carolina’s past 12 overall, and 5-1 in its past six at home; however, look for the Canes to circle the wagons and give a spirited defensive effort in this one in front of a fourth-string goaltender.

Washington Capitals at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Washington Capitals at Colorado Avalanche sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Washington Capitals (36-15-5) travel to meet the Colorado Avalanche (33-16-6) at Pepsi Center in Denver at 9:30 p.m. ET Thursday. We analyze the Capitals-Avalanche sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Capitals at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Braden Holtby vs. Philipp Grubauer

Holtby enters the game with a 20-11-4 record, 3.17 goals against average and .894 save percentage. Lately, it has been a challenge, as he has allowed four or more goals in seven of his past 11 starts, but it’s more a product of the defense struggling in front of him rather than poor tending. Just ask backup Ilya Samsonov, as he coughed up five goals last time out against the New York Islanders, but most just weren’t his fault.

Grubauer has been humming right along lately, going 4-0-0 with a 0.67 GAA across his past four outings, although two of those games were against the lowly Ottawa Senators and one against the struggling Buffalo Sabres. This will be a huge measuring stick game against his former organization. He allowed three goals on 32 shots in a 6-3 win in Washington Oct. 14, and who knows the Caps better?

Capitals at Avalanche: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 10:40 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Capitals 3

Moneyline (ML)

The AVALANCHE (-143) will have the brooms out looking for the two-game regular-season sweep, and they will get it. The Capitals (+120) are just playing shoddy defense lately, and they cannot be trusted.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Avalanche to win returns a profit of $7, while a $10 wager on the Capitals results in a profit of $12.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The way the Caps are performing on defense, the AVALANCHE (-1.5, +180) are a tempting play at nearly double the return on investment. The Capitals (+1.5, -222) would normally be a slam-dunk play, if not getting goals as an underdog, but on the moneyline. They’re in a tailspin right now and facing a high-octane offense that could roll up plenty of goals.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6.5 (+115) is worth a small-unit bet, as the Capitals offense remains dynamic, and they’re leaking oil on the defensive end. That’s a strong recipe for an Over result, especially against a Colorado offense which ranks No. 1 with 3.6 goals per game.

Colorado Avalanche at Columbus Blue Jackets odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Colorado Avalanche at Columbus Blue Jackets sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The Colorado Avalanche (30-16-6) and Columbus Blue Jackets (30-16-9) will lock horns at Nationwide Arena at 7 p.m. ET Thursday. We analyze the Avalanche-Blue Jackets sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Avalanche at Blue Jackets: Projected starting goalies

Philipp Grubauer vs. Matiss Kivlenieks

Grubauer checks into this one with a 16-11-4 record, 2.78 goals against average (GAA) and .910 save percentage across his 32 starts – he is on pace for a career high in victories. He won 18 games last season to establish a new career best in 33 starts and 37 games. Grubauer hasn’t faced the Blue Jackets this season, but was drummed in two outings in 2018-19. He allowed four goals on 34 shots in Columbus Oct. 9, 2018, and ended up 0-2-0 with a 4.58 GAA and .871 SV% in those two outings last season.

Kivlenieks is expected to start, giving the red-hot Elvis Merzlikins a breather after he posted a shutout Friday night. The latter has a 12-6-4 record, 2.20 GAA and .930 SV% – he has blanked the opposition in five of the previous eight games. Meanwhile, Kivlenieks has been no slouch, going 1-0-1 with a 1.49 GAA and .946 SV% in two starts.

Avalanche at Blue Jackets: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:25 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Blue Jackets 2

Moneyline (ML)

The AVALANCHE (-143) are moderate road favorites, most likely due to the fact the Blue Jackets (+120) just played Friday night and will be using their backup tendy. I’d like to see a little more value and less chalk to eat, but Colorado is still the play.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Avalanche to win returns a profit of $6.99, while a $10 wager on the Blue Jackets results in a profit of $12.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Not a big fan of the puck line bet in this one – Colorado is -1.5, +185; Columbus is +1.5 -228. I think this game has the potential to be a rather low-scoring contest, even with Kivlenieks in the crease rather than Merzlikins. The Blue Jackets have been grinding out plenty of low-scoring wins and relying upon their defense. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (+105) is a nice value play at plus-money. While it’s all Over all the time for the Avalanche lately, going 4-1 in the past five, and 19-9-1 in the past 29 as a road favorite, it’s all Under for the Blue Jackets recently. The Under is a perfect 4-0 in their past four as a home ‘dog, 42-19-1 in the past 62 at home and 20-8 in the previous 28 games overall for CBJ.

Colorado Avalanche at Buffalo Sabres odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Colorado Avalanche at Buffalo Sabres sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche (28-16-6) and Buffalo Sabres (23-22-7) tangle at KeyBank Center in Buffalo at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday. We analyze the Avalanche-Sabres sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Avalanche at Sabres: Projected starting goalies

Philipp Grubauer vs. Carter Hutton

The former Washington Capitals backstop will make the start against the Sabres looking to improve upon a 14-11-4 record, 2.90 goals against average and .908 save percentage across his 30 starts. He hasn’t faced the Sabres this season, but he posted a shutout against Buffalo on March 9 of last season.

Hutton enters Tuesday off of a rare win, as he stopped 22 of 23 shots against the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday. He improved to 7-8-4 on the season with a .897 SV% and 3.13 GAA.

Avalanche at Sabres: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Sabres 2

Moneyline (ML)

The AVALANCHE (-189) are a bit expensive on the moneyline, but they’re a good bet on the road against the flagging Sabres (+155). Colorado has posted a 14-3 record in the previous 17 meetings in this series, with the Avs going 7-2 in their past seven visits to Buffalo. The favorite is also 9-2 in the past 11 in this series.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Avalanche to win returns a profit of $5.30, while a $10 wager on the Sabres results in a profit of $15.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Back the AVALANCHE (-1.5, +140) to win by at least 2 goals on the road for a greater return on your investment. The same $10 bet here will fetch a profit of $14.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6.5 (+125) is paying plus-money for a total of 7 goals to be scored. The Over is 4-1 in the past five meetings in this series, and 6-1-1 in the previous eight meetings in Buffalo. The Over is also 10-3 in Colorado’s past 13 as a favorite, and 4-0 in the past four in the Eastern Conference. The Over is 3-1-1 in Buffalo’s past five against opponents from the Central Division.

Detroit Red Wings at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and best bets

Analyzing Monday’s Detroit Red Wings at Colorado Avalanche matchup, with NHL betting odds, picks and best bets

The Detroit Red Wings (12-33-4) and Colorado Avalanche (27-15-6) square off at Pepsi Center Monday at 3 p.m. ET. We analyze the Red Wings-Avalanche sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and betting tips.

Red Wings at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Calvin Pickard vs. Philipp Grubauer

It’s likely Pickard gets the starting nod against his former organization. He can’t be much worse than Jimmy Howard, who is 2-17-2 with a 4.06 goals-against average and .883 save percentage across 21 starts. Or can he? Pickard has struggled, too, going 0-2-0 with a 5.46 GAA and .797 save percentage in his one start and three showings to date.

Grubauer has managed a 14-10-4 record, 2.82 GAA and .910 save percentage overall, so whether it’s Pickard or Howard in between the pipes for the visitors, the home side has a clear-cut advantage at goaltender.

Red Wings at Avalanche: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 6:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Avalanche 6, Red Wings 3

Moneyline (ML)

The Avalanche (-334) are heavily favored, and there is no way to justify risking more than three times your return, even if it’s a near certainty that the home side will win this matinee battle.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The AVALANCHE (-1.5, -125) will cost you a little juice even on the puck line. The Red Wings (+1.5, +105) have had a case of the Mondays, going 2-9 in their past 11 appearances on the first day of the week, and they’re just 13-38 across the past 51 road games.

For the Avs, they also aren’t too fond of Mondays, going 1-4 in the past five appearances. However, they’re 7-2 in the past nine against teams with a winning percentage of .400 or under. They’re also 4-0 in the past four against the Wings.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+125) is plus-money, and it won’t take much for this to inch across the line. The Red Wings goaltending situation is a mess, and Colorado has the potential to nearly take care of the over all by themselves.

San Jose Sharks at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s San Jose Sharks at Colorado Avalanche sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The San Jose Sharks (21-23-4) and Colorado Avalanche (25-15-6) square off at Pepsi Center Thursday with puck drop set for shortly after 9 p.m. ET. We analyze the Sharks-Avalanche sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Sharks at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Aaron Dell vs. Philipp Grubauer

Dell has effectively taken over as the starting backstop in San Jose ahead of the stumbling Martin Jones. He has posted an 8-8-2 record with a 2.84 goals against average and .909 save percentage. Dell has posted four of his wins in six starts since flipping the calendar from December.

Grubauer is 12-10-4 with a 2.92 GAA and .909 save percentage so far this season. He will look to rebound after a 3-2 setback in overtime against the Dallas Stars Tuesday, blowing a 2-0 lead.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 11:10 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Sharks 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Avalanche (-209) have been tumbling lately, but they have the offensive firepower to break out of their slump at any time. Look for the Avs to be able to crack the combination for Dell early and often in this one.

The home team has cashed in 40 of the last 56 meetings in this series, and the favorite is 37-14 in the past 51 meetings overall.

PASS on the moneyline bet, as a $10 bet on Colorado to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of just $4.80.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The AVALANCHE (-1.5, +125) are the play in this one, mainly because they’re at home. The Sharks (+1.5, -154) have struggled away from home, going 8-12-3 overall, a major reason they’re in the bottom half of the standings and outside of the playoff picture at the moment.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-150) is the lean here, but I don’t like the fact that it’s not ‘regular’ juice. You shouldn’t have to lay -150 on a wager which is generally -110, or -115 at most. Therefore I’d skip this one. You can do an alternate line of OVER 6.5 (+135) at plus-money for a better value, and with the high-powered offenses on both sides, this might be the way to go.

St. Louis Blues at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s St. Louis Blues at Colorado Avalanche sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The St. Louis Blues (26-9-6) and Colorado Avalanche (23-13-4) do battle at Pepsi Center 9:30 p.m. ET Thursday. We analyze the Rangers-Oilers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Blues at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Jordan Binnington vs. Philipp Grubauer

Binnington has a sparkling 19-6-4 record with a 2.39 goals-against average and .921 save percentage with one shutout this season. He rolls in on a six-start winning streak, including a 5-2 win over the Avalanche in St. Louis back on Dec. 16.

Grubauer has managed a 10-9-3 record with a 2.91 GAA and .911 save percentage, and he enters on a personal 0-4-1 skid. He was on the losing side of that Dec. 16 meeting on the banks of the Mississippi River.

Blues at Avalanche: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 7:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Blues 4, Avalanche 3

Moneyline (ML)

The BLUES (+110) are slight favorites, as they look to bounce back from a road loss in Arizona to close out the 2019 calendar year. They’re 16-5 in their past 21 inside the Central Division, and they hold an eight-point division lead over the second-place Avalanche (-134).

While Colorado is favored, it’s just 2-6 in its past eight home games against St. Louis, and 8-23 in the past 31 meetings overall in this series.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The puck line is risky business in this battle between the top two teams in the Central. While I expect the Blues to come out of it with a win, I’d recommend just taking them straight up rather than grab inside at (+1.5, -239). That’s too much chalk to eat.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-134) has cashed in four of the past five games overall for Colorado, and six of its past eight inside the Central. While Arizona’s failure last time out was the loss for bettors that night, it might be the gain of Over bettors in this one. The Over is 5-0 in the past five for the Blues when scoring two or fewer goals in their previous outing.

Colorado Avalanche at St. Louis Blues odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Colorado Avalanche at St. Louis Blues sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche (21-8-3) invade Enterprise Center to battle for the top spot in the Central Division against the St. Louis Blues (20-8-6) at 8 p.m. ET Monday. We analyze the Avalanche-Blues sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Avalanche at Blues: Projected starting goalies

Philipp Grubauer vs. Jordan Binnington

Grubauer enters the game with a 10-5-2 record, 2.76 goals against average and .914 save percentage while coming in with a pair of road wins in Boston and Toronto in his past two outings. Overall, he has won three straight, but he has missed over a week due to a hamstring injury. He should be able to go, but if not it will be Pavel Francouz getting the nod in his place. Either way, the Avalanche are in good hands.

Binnington has been rounding into form after a bit of a slow start. He is 15-6-4 with a 2.46 GAA and .919 SV% with one shutout. He’ll look to maintain the dominance of the Blues in this series.

Avalanche at Blues: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Blues 3, Avalanche 1

Moneyline (ML)

The BLUES (-115) have posted 21 victories in the past 28 head-to-head meetings at Enterprise center, while the Avalanche (-106) are 8-22 in the past 30 battles in this series overall. The home team has also cashed in 25 of the past 37 in this series.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered for the Blues to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout would profit $8.70 if they do so.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

BLUES (-1.5, +230) are a great play for Monday’s titanic Central Division battle as they’re a nice value. The favorite is 13-4 in the past 17 meetings. In addition, four of their past five wins also cashed on the puck line. A small-unit bet is warranted here.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+100) is even-money for Monday’s battle, and you’ll like the Under. The Under is 5-1 in Colorado’s past six overall, and 5-1 in their past six on the road, too. In this series, the Under is 21-8-2 in the past 31 battles at Enterprise Center, too, while cashing in four of the past five overall.

Calgary Flames at Colorado Avalanche odds, lines, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Calgary Flames at Colorado Avalanche sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Calgary Flames (15-12-4) and Colorado Avalanche (19-8-2) lock horns at Pepsi Center at 9 p.m. ET Monday. We analyze the Flames-Avalanche sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Flames at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

David Rittich vs. Philipp Grubauer

Rittich is 13-7-4 with a 2.69 goals against average and .914 save percentage with a pair of shutouts so far this season, but he is 0-2-0 with a 3.57 GAA and .877 SV% in two outings against the Avs.

The goaltending situation is much less certain for the Avalanche. Grubauer left his last start due to a hamstring injury, so he is expected to attempt to test his ailment in the morning skate before his status is known. If he cannot go it would be Pavel Francouz in the crease, with Adam Werner likely to be summoned from the minors to serve as his understudy.

If it is Francouz who is tabbed for the start, he has yet to face the Flames, but he is 7-2-0 with a 2.24 GAA and .931 save percentage overall. Grubauer is 2-0-0 with a 2.50 GAA and .921 save percentage vs. Calgary this season.

Flames at Avalanche: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 9:20 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Flames 2

Moneyline (ML)

The AVALANCHE (-162) are a risky play in this one based on the uncertainty of their goaltender. If Grubauer makes it through the morning skate unscathed, a small-unit wager on the Avs is warranted. Check Twitter and your favorite news sites for more information. The Flames are 0-6 in the past six meetings in this series, and 1-4 in the past five trips to Denver, too, so keep that in mind.

New to sports betting? Every $1 wagered for the Avalanche to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout would profit $0.62 if they do so.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Head-to-head meetings between the Flames and Avs are usually nip and tuck, and I don’t like either side of the puck line. I could see this one easily decided in overtime or a shootout.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+125) is 39-18 in Calgary’s last 57 games on the road. The Under is 3-1-1 in Colorado’s past five as a favorite, too.

Every $1 wagered for five or fewer combined goals to be scored would profit $1.25 if the Under hits.
