Prediction

76ers 106, Jazz 96

Moneyline (ML)

The Jazz (+200) roll into Philadelphia fresh off a 130-110 road loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday. They’ve lost three of their last four overall and are just 4-7 away from home. They’ve played three back-to-backs this season and won the second game each time while topping 110 points in all three games.

The SIXERS (-250) are 9-0 at home, have won three straight games and beat the Indiana Pacers 119-116 Saturday in their last game. They’ve won seven of their last eight outings. The Jazz took the first meeting of the season between the two by a narrow 106-104 score in Utah on Nov. 6. But Philly gets revenge Monday on its home court.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The SIXERS (-5.5, -115) will keep rolling and win by at least six points against a Jazz team which is 2-4 in its last six road games, with the last two losses by 19 and 20 points. Philly’s last three wins were by an average margin of five points, but two of them were by six on the number. In all, nine of Philadelphia’s wins have been by six or more this season.

The Jazz enter Monday 8-12 ATS overall and 4-7 on the road. The 76ers are 8-11 overall and 4-5 at home. Utah was at home for the second half of each of its three back-to-backs thus far and will find a different result on the road.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the 76ers to win by at least six points returns a profit of $8.70 vs. a return of $4 for the same bet on the moneyline (for the 76ers to win outright).

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 206.5 (+105). Both teams have typically fallen shy of the projected point totals. Philly is 9-11 against the O/U and plays to an average of 1.5 points below the projection. Utah is 8-12 against the totals and falls an average of 4.6 points short of the line.

Monday marks unpleasant 10-year anniversary for Nets

The Nets look good now, but the franchise has been through some rough times. Back in 2009-10, the franchise was the doormat of the NBA.

The Brooklyn Nets have 10 wins through their first 20 games of the 2019-20 season, placing them seventh in the Eastern Conference standings. A .500 start isn’t exactly earthshattering for the Nets. Some might even consider 10-10 a disappointment.

Ten years ago, Nets fans would’ve been plenty happy with a 10-10 start. Ten years ago, the Nets were the worst team in the NBA — and Monday marked the anniversary of the record they set in 2009-10.

Prior to 2009-10, two teams had lost 17 consecutive games to start a season in the history of the NBA: the 1988-89 Miami Heat and 1998-99 Los Angeles Clippers (lockout season).

Twenty-one seasons after the Heat set their record, the New Jersey Nets broke it on December 2, 2009 when they lost their 18th game in a row in a 117-101 finish against the Dallas Mavericks.

On that December night in New Jersey, Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points for the Mavs and ex-Nets point guard Jason Kidd scored 16, had 10 assists, grabbed eight rebounds and finished with five steals.

For New Jersey, Chris Douglas-Roberts led with 24 points. Devin Harris had 17 and Brooke Lopez scored 16.

The Nets would snap their losing streak with a 97-91 win over the Charlotte Bobcats two nights later.

New Jersey would finish 2009-10 with a 12-70 record, the worst finish in franchise history.

Six years later, the Philadelphia 76ers would tie the Nets for the worst start to a season in NBA history.

Prediction

Pacers 111, 76ers 107

Moneyline (ML)

The 76ers (-176) are heavy favorites at home and the number is lower than it should be against a PACERS (+145) team in the midst of a five-game winning streak and with eight victories in their last 10 outings. The Sixers have won two in a row of their own and are a perfect 8-0 at home, while the Pacers are just 3-4 on the road, but the value here is too great to turn down.

Both teams are coming off Friday victories with Indiana topping the Atlanta Hawks 105-104 in overtime and Philly skating by the New York Knicks 101-95. Neither win was overly impressive against bottom-feeding opponents and the back-to-back situation for both sides make this more of a coin-flip game. Take the value with the visitors.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Pacers to win outright returns a profit of $14.50.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The PACERS (+4.5, -121) are still getting adequate value against the spread where they’ll need to stay within four points in a loss or win outright. Indiana is 9-8 ATS overall and 3-4 on the road while Philadelphia is just 8-10 overall and 4-4 at home.

The Pacers trounced the Brooklyn Nets 115-86 in their last road game and four of their last six victories were decided by double digits. The Sixers won each of their last two games by exactly six points as they’ve had trouble separating and staying ahead late in games. The Pacers will keep this close if unable to win outright.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total is set at 206.5. Take the OVER (-115). Both teams are on the second half of a back-to-back which typically puts a lean on the Under, but Saturday’s number is too low as the Sixers are expected to get a key reinforcement with C Al Horford returning from his rest night.

Philadelphia 76ers at New York Knicks odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Philadelphia 76ers at New York Knicks sports betting odds and lines, with NBA betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Philadelphia 76ers (12-6) visit the New York Knicks (4-14) Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden. We analyze 76ers-Knicks odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup.

C Joel Embiid rebounded from the worst game of his career with a 33-point, 16-rebound performance in a 97-91 home win vs. the Sacramento Kings Wednesday. Two nights earlier, he went scoreless in 32 minutes of a loss at the Toronto Raptors.

The Knicks not only lost their fourth in a row Wednesday, they had their biggest loss of the season, suffering a 28-point defeat at Toronto (126-98).

Prediction

76ers 111, Knicks 103

Moneyline (ML)

There’s no doubt in my mind Philadelphia (-286) will win, but I can’t justify or take credit in advising someone to lay that kind of wood for a favorite. Every $2.86 wagered will profit only $1 if the 76ers win. Philly has won the last nine head-to-head meetings dating back to Dec. 2017. Keep in mind the Sixers are only 4-6 straight up (SU) away from home and own a 4-5-1 ATS road record. The Knicks (+230) are 3-6 SU at home and 4-5 ATS.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The 76ers -7.5 (+100) is worth a small wager. Small, only because you’d like to think New York will show some heart after Wednesday’s blowout loss. The overall fact is this Knicks team is a mess.

New to sports betting? Bet $10 to profit $10 if the 76ers win by eight or more points.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 204.5 (-129) is the STRONGEST PLAY. Every $1.29 wagered profits $1 if the teams combine for 205 or more points. Philly has played to four Unders in a row, while New York ranks last in the league by scoring 101.8 points per game. The Knicks have allowed 114.4 PPG over their last five outings. I expect the same to happen Friday night as the teams return from their short Thanksgiving breaks.

Drake taunted Joel Embiid after he had a scoreless night against the Raptors

The rivalry continues.

Rapper and Toronto Raptors ambassador Drake has a history of getting into it with NBA players, but he has some history with Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid.

Back in May, when the Raptors faced the Sixers in the playoffs, Drake had some words for Embiid as the star walked off the floor in a Game 5 loss to the Raps. Drake had also mocked the Embiid airplane celebration in that game.

Fast-forward to Monday night. The Raptors defeated the Sixers 101-96, and Embiid shockingly went scoreless on 0-of-11 shooting in 32 minutes while also amassing five fouls and committing four turnovers. Not good.

And here’s what Drake had to say about it toward Embiid. It would appear to be “MVP!”:

You also have to wonder if Drake flashing his Raptors championship ring on Instagram was a bit of a taunt meant for the Sixers:

Either way, Drake has the upper hand here. Hopefully, we’ll see more of this in the postseason.

Philadelphia 76ers at Toronto Raptors odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Philadelphia 76ers at Toronto Raptors sports betting odds and lines, with NBA betting picks, tips and best bets

The Toronto Raptors (11-4) host the rival Philadelphia 76ers (11-5) Monday at Scotiabank Arena in a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference Semifinals. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. We analyze the 76ers-Raptors odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup.

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated 9:45 a.m. ET.

Prediction

76ers 108, Raptors 98

Moneyline (ML)

Both teams enter on winning streaks, with the Raptors (-110) taking three in a row and the SIXERS (-110) winning four straight. Toronto last beat the Atlanta Hawks 119-116 on the road Saturday. Philadelphia wrapped up a three-game homestand with a 113-86 rout of the Miami Heat.

The Raptors are a perfect 6-0 at home while the 76ers are 4-5 on the road. Toronto has the edge on offense with an average of 113.7 points per game to Philly’s 110.3 PPG, but the Sixers allow just 105.1 PPG to the Raptors’ 106.1 PPG allowed. The injuries to Lowry and Ibaka will cost the Raptors as they face their first opponent with a record better than .500 in over a week. Take the visitors in a pick ’em.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the 76ers to win outright returns a profit of $9.09.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Philly is 8-7 against the spread overall and 4-4 on the road. Toronto is 9-6 ATS overall and 5-1 on home court. Both teams are 5-5 ATS across their respective last 10 games. The Raptors have covered by an average of 6.4 points per game while the 76ers have covered by an average of just 0.6 points per game.

Again, with the injuries to Lowry and Ibaka, the 76ers will have the depth to pull out the outright win Monday. They’re a wiser pick on the moneyline with a greater profit margin than they are to cover the meager spread of +1.5 with -120 odds. The same $10 wager would return a profit of $8.33 with just one point of insurance in the event of a loss. PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Raptors are 9-6 against the Over/Under and top the projected total by an average of 1.4 points per game. The 76ers are 8-8 against the number and fall an average of 0.4 points per game shy of the point total. Back the UNDER 214.5 (-115) with Toronto needing to rely more heavily on the bottom end of its bench without the two stars.

Jimmy Butler met with boos in return to Philly after leaving 76ers

Butler is the enemy now.

Jimmy Butler left the 76ers this summer after being traded there last season and playing 55 games with the team.

In his time there, he hit three game winning shots, was their second leading scorer in the postseason averaging 19.4 points per game and was their lead ball handler when things got tight in the fourth quarter down the stretch.

All that still gets you booed in Philadelphia.

Butler returned to the Wells Fargo Center with the Miami Heat for a matchup against the Sixers tonight and, when he was introduced as part of the Heat’s starting lineup, the crowd booed him to no end.

Butler’s time in Philadelphia was mostly positive after a bit of a rough start and they were just one game away from the Conference Finals and could’ve made it had the ball bounced the wrong way on Kawhi Leonard’s last jumper that sealed the deal against them.

Butler’s decision looks just fine right now. The Heat are sitting at 11-3 in the Eastern Conference and are just a half game back on the MIlwaukee Bucks for first place. On the other hand, the Sixers are sitting at 5th in the conference with a 10-5 record and are 1.5 games back on Butler’s Heat.

Maybe that gives them even more reason to boo despite the great run Butler had in Philly. What the Sixers had going with Butler was great while it lasted, but that doesn’t matter to Sixers fans.

You’re either with them or you’re against them. As wild as that sounds, you’ve got to respect it.

Prediction

Heat 105, 76ers 102

Moneyline (ML)

Both teams played Friday with the Heat beating the Chicago Bulls 116-108 on the road and the 76ers topping the San Antonio Spurs 115-104 at home. Miami has won five straight and Philadelphia is riding a three-game streak. The Sixers are 6-0 at home and outscore their opponents 110.1-106.3 overall. The Heat are 5-3 on the road and outscore the opposition 112.4-104.0 on the season.

The 76ers (-223) have the home-court advantage but the value lies with the HEAT (+180). Miami has the better offense and defense and enters the day on the longer winning streak. Take the money.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Heat to win outright returns a profit of $18 while the same wager on the 76ers would net $4.48.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The moneyline is much more appealing but the HEAT are still tempting enough on the spread of +4.5 (-106). Miami will need to either win outright or stay within four points in a loss for a $10 bet to return a profit of $9.43.

The Heat are 11-2-1 ATS overall and 5-2-1 on the road. The Sixers are 7-7-1 overall and just 3-3 at home. Miami covers by an average of seven points per game against Philly’s minus-0.8 margin. The Heat are 0-1-1 ATS on the second half of a back-to-back with the 76ers just 0-1, losing by 15 points to the Orlando Magic.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 212.5 (-115). Philly is 8-7 against the projected totals while topping the number by an average of just 0.3 points. Miami is 7-7 and falls an average of 2.5 points shy of the projection.

The two teams combine to average better than 222 points per game but their defenses allow just 210. The back-to-back situation for both sides will slow things down with starters likely to see fewer minutes.

Ben Simmons hit his first official 3-pointer and NBA fans had lots of jokes

Ben Simmons’ first 3-pointer with the Titanic song is pretty good.

Ben Simmons, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2016 NBA draft, did the once unthinkable Wednesday night as he launched a shot from behind the 3-point line and by golly the darn thing went through the hoop.

Yup, Simmons finally hit the first 3-pointer of his NBA career Wednesday night against the New York Knicks (because of course the Knicks allowed this history to happen).

Simmons hit one 3-pointer during a preseason game against a team from China, which made us all wonder if he’d be able to add this shot to his game this year. But now he has an official 3-pointer under his belt, which who knows how much that could change things for him moving forward.

Here’s the moment NBA fans will never forget:

NBA fans reacted accrordingly:

Trusting the process has finally paid off in Philadelphia. After a long rebuilding period, the 76ers are now legitimate contenders in the Eastern Conference. In 2018, the young Sixers emerged as a serious threat late in the season with a remarkable 16-game win streak to close out the season. While their playoff run was cut short due to a loss to the eventual NBA champion Toronto Raptors, there’s a ton of expectations and hope for 2019.

So far, so good for the Sixers. All-Star center Joel Embiid has picked up right where he left off last season. He’s averaging 22.3 points per game, while also averaging 11.8 rebounds. Couple him with offseason acquisition Al Horford, who is putting up 15.9 points and 7.4 boards per game, and they have formed one of the most formidable frontcourt tandems in the league.

Philly isn’t just strong in the paint. In fact, the team has five players averaging double-figures in points. The Sixers also have a very solid bench to pull from in case of injury or fatigue. It’s for these reasons that many believe they’ll challenge for the top spot in the East. It won’t be easy with the likes of Milwaukee and Boston again looking strong, but there’s a ton of optimism around this talented bunch.
