Badgers listed as one of the big winners this offseason by 247Sports

Wisconsin were listed as a winner on 247Sports’ big winners and losers of the offseason coaching carousel in college football on Monday.

The Badgers were listed as a winner when 247Sports released their big winners and losers of the offseason coaching carousel in college football on Monday.

This doesn’t come as a huge surprise considering the massive influx of talent and interested recruits following the addition of Luke Fickell at head coach and the subsequent hirings of Phil Longo at offensive coordinator and Mike Tressel at defensive coordinator.

As a result of those men, Wisconsin has brought in over 15 talented athletes from the transfer portal in addition to securing the commitments of four-star athletes like quarterback Mabrey Mettauer (The Woodlands, Texas) and tight end Grant Stec (Algonquin, Illinois) in the past few months.

The Badgers will look to turn their offseason success into an impressive season in 2023, which his soon to be underway after the team released their spring schedule earlier this month.

Deep Dive: Look into career of new QB Tanner Mordecai

Will Tanner Mordecai be Russell Wilson 2.0 for the Badgers?

Since he took over at head coach, Luke Fickell has completely changed the culture of the Badger football team. By bringing in coordinators like Phil Longo and Mike Tressel as well, Fickell has made Wisconsin a far more intriguing option for athletes.

Longo’s “Air Raid” offense in particular has been a huge bonus in the Badgers’ favor this offseason and has helped the team reel in talent from across the country.

One player they have gotten via the transfer portal is former SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai. Mordecai will use his final year of eligibility to join the Badgers in 2023 and he’s a current frontrunner to be their next signal caller.

Here’s how the field general’s career has stacked up on his way to Madison:

Notre Dame football: 9 potential candidates to replace Tommy Rees

Who do you want to replace Tommy Rees?

Just a year after declaring he wanted to stay and fight for Notre Dame, offensive coordinator [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag] is off to Tuscaloosa to join Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama. Rees took over as Notre Dame’s play-caller in 2020 and showed signs of stardom. He also made a few decisions that left Notre Dame fans rather frustrated.

The new offensive coordinator will be tasked with some difficult things.  Notably, Rees raised the level of talent in the quarterback room significantly.  When you look at what Notre Dame had at the position on their roster from 2017-2022 and look at the projected depth charts in coming years you can’t help seeing a significant step in the right direction.

But who will replace Rees?

This will be a massive test for Marcus Freeman early in his head coaching career because the hiring of quality assistants is a must for any sustained success. Here are nine names he would be wise to at least look at to replace Rees.

To this point, Berry-Johnson has received six Division 1 offers, with Wisconsin representing the only high-profile program. Since adding Luke Fickell at head coach and Phil Longo at offensive coordinator, it seems like the Badgers have become a more attractive spot for offensive weapons to end up.

For the class of 2024, Wisconsin has already gotten the commitments of two athletes, four-star quarterback Mabrey Mettauer (The Woodlands, Texas) and four-star tight end Grant Stec (Algonquin, Illinois).

The Badgers received the commitment of Grant Stec, a four-star tight end from Algonquin, Illinois on Sunday. The 6-foot-6, 220 pound athlete is a member of the class of 2024 and will join the Badgers after he completes his final season at Harry D Jacobs High School.

Stec chose Madison over 14 other Division 1 offers, becoming the highest ever rated tight end in Wisconsin history. In addition to that, he became the second player to commit to the Badgers from the class of 2024, joining four-star quarterback Mabrey Mettauer (The Woodlands, Texas).

Badgers offer three-star wide receiver from class of 2024

Wisconsin offered Terrance Moore Jr., a class of 2024 three-star wide receiver from Tampa, Florida on Friday.

Wisconsin offered Terrance Moore Jr., a three-star wide receiver from Tampa, Florida on Friday. The 6-foot-3, 190 pound athlete is a junior at Tampa Catholic High School and still has one more season before potentially making the leap to a collegiate program.

Moore Jr. has now received 37 Division 1 offers, a list that includes powerhouse programs like Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State as well as in-state schools like Florida and Florida State. Prior to the addition of head coach Luke Fickell and offensive coordinator Phil Longo, Moore Jr. would have never really been in consideration for the Badgers, but the times have changed.

Since the two joined the program, Wisconsin has brought in four wide receivers from the transfer portal, including former four-star CJ Williams from USC. In addition to the receivers, the team has brought in great talent at quarterback as well and have already secured the commitment of four-star Mabrey Mettauer (The Woodlands, Texas) for the class of 2024. If the Badgers can pull it off, Moore would be a big body for Mettauer to connect with in a couple years.
