Seahawks 4 biggest positions of need after 2024 free agency

Let’s review Seattle’s four greatest roster needs after the free agency period.

During free agency, the Seahawks were able to keep star defensive end Leonard Williams and tight end Noah Fant and address at least some of their roster holes. However, there’s still a lot of work to be done before this team will be ready to compete. For one thing, their offensive line is currently ranked the worst in the league on paper by Mike Clay at ESPN. Improving that unit is one of several items that will need to be taken care of at some point this offseason.

Let’s review Seattle’s four greatest roster needs after the free agency period.

13 pending offensive free agents with ties to the Panthers’ coaching staff

Mike Evans, who is set to hit the open market, had his best season in years under new Panthers HC Dave Canales.

With new head coach Dave Canales leading the transition, the Carolina Panthers have completely overhauled their offensive staff this winter. And with new faces comes new connections for the organization.

Here are 13 pending offensive free agents, in areas of particular need, with ties to Canales’ staff:

Seahawks 53-man roster tracker: QB, LB elevated from practice squad

Our 53-man roster tracker is updated.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a couple of practice squad elevations on Saturday ahead of today’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Recently re-signed third-string quarterback Sean Mannion has been elevated as a contingency in case starter Geno Smith is unable to play. Smith is listed as questionable with elbow and groin injuries. The Seahawks also elevated linebacker Patrick O’Connell, who gives them some extra depth in case Jordyn Brooks is inactive – he is also listed as questionable.

Here’s the team’s updated 53-man roster by jersey number (Dec. 10).

Seahawks Week 9 injury report: no players ruled OUT

Seahawks Week 9 injury report: no players ruled OUT

This is a rather pleasant surprise for the Seattle Seahawks. After dealing with injury issues all season long, heading into Week 9 the Seahawks look… really healthy!

It’s a surprisingly empty injury report from Friday’s practice as the team heads to the Charm City. Below is the full list, but there’s (thankfully) not much to say about it:

Seahawks vs Browns Week 8 inactives: 6 players ruled OUT

Seahawks vs Browns Week 8 inactives: 6 players ruled OUT

The Seattle Seahawks are under two hours away from kicking off against the Cleveland Browns. They are back at Lumen Field in Week 8, and they will be wearing the much-anticipated retro blue throwback jerseys. It will be a turn-back-the-clock to the 1990’s for the Seahawks today.

Unfortunately, not everyone will get to enjoy wearing the retro threads for the first time since 2001. The following players are inactive for Sunday’s game:

Seahawks Inactives:

  • WR Cody Thompson
  • CB Kyu Blu Kelly
  • LB Drake Thomas
  • G Phil Haynes
  • T McClendon Curtis
  • T Raiqwon O’Neal

Browns Inactives

  • QB Deshaun Watson
  • WR Cedric TIllman
  • CB Kahlef Hailassie
  • RB Jordan Wilkins
  • S Ronnie Hickman
  • DE Isaiah McGurrie
  • DT Siaki Ika

7 things to know going into Week 8 game between Seahawks, Browns

Seahawks Injury Report: Two star players are questionable vs. Browns

How does the Seahawks look health wise going into Sunday’s matchup

The Cleveland Browns 2023 season marches on as the road trip continues in Seattle against the Seahawks. The Browns will be without Deshaun Watson again as P.J. Walker and the offense try to solve their passing attack. It’ll be easier to get some solutions this week if the Seahawks safety Jamal Adams misses this game as he and wide receiver Tyler Lockett are both questionable.

Adams and Lockett are both on the injury report against the Browns. Running back Kenny Mcintosh and defensive tackle Austin Faoliu have already been ruled out with guard Phil Haynes being listed as doubtful.

Missing Tyler Lockett could be huge for the Browns because when he is out there it creates an interesting and talented trio of wide receivers. Either way, if either Lockett or Adams misses the game it would be a big loss let alone if they were both out. Cleveland is looking to get to 5-2 to start the season as the team waits for their franchise quarterback to return.

Seahawks Week 7 inactives: DK Metcalf, and 5 others ruled OUT

Week 7 inactives: DK Metcalf, and 5 others ruled OUT

This isn’t exactly news the 12th Man wants to hear. The Seattle Seahawks are under two hours away from kicking off against the Arizona Cardinals, but they will have to do so without star wide receiver DK Metcalf.

Unfortunately, they’ll also have to do it without two starting offensive linemen and their primary backup running back. Despite a clean injury report on Friday, the gametime decisions did not go the way the Seahawks obviously wanted them to go.

As for the Cardinals, they will be without two linemen themselves and some secondary help. The full inactives are below:

Seahawks Inactives:

  • LB Devin Bush
  • WR DK Metcalf
  • CB Artie Burns
  • RB Zach Charbonnet
  • G Phil Haynes
  • C Evan Brown
  • T Raiqwon O’Neal

Cardinals Inactives

  • WR Zach Pascal
  • S Qwuantrezz Knight
  • LB Jesse Luketa
  • CB Antonio Hamilton
  • S Jalen Thompson
  • OL Carter O’Donnell
  • OL Elijah Wilkinson

Seahawks Week 7 injury report: offensive line still hurting

Seahawks Week 7 injury report: offensive line still hurting

Injuries have been a considerable storyline for the Seattle Seahawks this season. Ever since Week 1, the Seahawks offensive line has been battered with them, and it hasn’t gotten better. Here we are in Week 7, and the men up front are still ailing to a degree.

On Wednesday’s practice, every single starting member of Seattle’s offensive line either did not practice or were limited. The patchwork line has held up remarkably well up to this point, but struggled against Cincinnati.

It is only Wednesday, but this isn’t an optimistic start to the week.

Seahawks injury updates: Jamal Adams, Geno Smith and more

Afterwards, head coach Pete Carroll gave the media updates on a few of them.

The Seattle Seahawks earned a blowout win with a crushing defensive performance last night in prime time against the New York Giants. However, they also suffered several injuries to key players during the game.

After it was over, head coach Pete Carroll gave the beat reporters updates on a few of them. Here’s what we learned.

SS Jamal Adams

In the latest heart-breaker for Adams, he suffered a concussion on the team’s first defensive series last night, taking a knee to the helmet from Daniel Jones as he tackled him. Adams was obviously concussed and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game. Carroll says he should be OK to come back after the bye week.

NT Jarran Reed

Nose tackle Jarran Reed also had to leave the game at one point with a leg injury. Carroll says he was kicked in the shin and it swelled up on him, but he should also be fine to come back after the bye.

QB Geno Smith

Their most-significant injury was to their starting quarterback. Geno Smith had to leave the game briefly in the second quarter after getting his legs rolled up under him on a sideline tackle by Isaiah Simmons. Smith returned in the second half though and didn’t appear to be too bothered. Carroll says he twisted his knee but it’s not serious.

G Damien Lewis, G Phil Haynes

The Seahawks also suffered injuries to their two starting guards. Phil Haynes re-aggravated a calf injury and Damien Lewis twisted his ankle.

Anthony Bradford replaced Haynes at right guard and earned high marks, while Evan Brown moved over to take Lewis’ place at left guard. Rookie Olu Oluwatimi replaced him at center.

Shane Waldron praises 2 Seahawks rookie offensive linemen

One of the boxes the Seahawks checked in the 2023 NFL draft was boosting their interior offensive line depth.

One of the boxes that the Seattle Seahawks checked in the 2023 NFL draft was boosting their interior offensive line depth. Seattle picked up two new offensive linemen on Day 3 of the draft, selecting Michigan center Olu Oluwatimi in the fifth round and LSU guard Anthony Bradford in the fourth.

So far, we’ve heard all positive reviews on both counts. Head coach Pete Carroll says he is already impressed by Oluwatimi and Bradford is getting buzz as a potential Week 1 starter. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron also has nothing but prasie for these two rookies. Here’s what he had to say about Bradford on Seattle Sports radio earlier this week.

“Anthony is just an impressive physical guy as far as a big offensive lineman that really shows that ability to bend and play underneath defenders… It’ll be exciting to add him into the mix of the competition with what we feel like is a pretty good group of interior players already on the roster.”

And here are Waldron’s comments on Oluwatimi.

“At that center position, knowing that’ll be a great competition with him and Evan (Brown) and Joey (Hunt) there to take that starting center role… So the first thing we’re looking for is what type of command and control that player can have, and he’s really demonstrated all those things in the early stages.”

It would be rough news for Evan Brown and Phil Haynes and the money Seattle invested in their one-year contracts, but the team’s long-term interests would be best-served by both Oluwatimi and Bradford winning their respective competitions and getting as many starter reps as possible their first year in the league.

Heading into OTAs, we are projecting Oluwatimi will be starting at center and Haynes at right guard, but that may change before the summer is over.
