Lefty’s best major result last season was a T-18 finish at Augusta in April. He missed the cut at The Open and has now missed the weekend in four of his last 10 major appearances. His best odds for 2020 come at the Masters, where he missed the cut in 2019 to snap a streak of five straight top-20 showings there.

Cantlay shares the second-highest odds among those in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking. His best finish in a major to date was a T-3 at last year’s PGA Championship, but he was able to pick up his second PGA Tour win last season at the Memorial. He’s a solid bet while trying to get ahead of his major breakout.

Cantlay collected two top-10 finishes in majors last season after never having placed inside the top 10 in six previous major appearances as a professional. A great ball-striker, his lowest odds come at the US Open, where he’ll be able to avoid the trademark trouble of the long, thick rough.

I prefer Cantlay on the generic “win a major” bet rather than trying to single out the specific event. The second-best golfer in the world without a major has a well-balanced and all-around strong game which makes him a competitor every time he tees it up. Put a multi-unit bet on the +500 odds to win one, rather than spreading the money around on single events.

Rahm proved over the last couple months that when he’s hot, few in the world can compete with his best golf. But he’s also been known to play himself out of competition at times with a disastrous round.

Rahm missed the cut at two of the four majors in 2018, but he finished fourth or T-4 at each of the other two. He also missed the cut at last season’s PGA Championship in between a T-9 finish at the Masters and a T-3 at the U.S. Open. His best odds in 2020 come at the Masters, which is the only major where he has never missed a cut.

Among the golfers in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking Rahm is one of the ones I like the most for the generic major bet. His best and worst sides can be difficult to predict, and his odds aren’t attractive enough at any of the individual events.

Fowler has fallen to 23rd in the Official World Golf Ranking this year after closing out 2018 at No. 11. Still, his major odds remain among the world’s elite due to his status as a public favorite in the U.S. and worldwide. He has the same odds as Justin Thomas, and I greatly prefer the latter.

Fowler had an incredible run of major success in 2014 which also included a T-5 at the Masters. Since then, has competed in 20 majors with three missed cuts and five top 10s. He has three career top 10s at both The Open and the US Open, but it’s the Masters where his best major result of a solo runner-up occurred in 2018.

The Open Championship returns to Royal St. George’s this year, where Fowler claimed a T-5 in 2011.

Will Rickie Fowler win a major in 2020?

Fowler’s always in the hunt at the majors, but at +450 odds, it just isn’t worth the venture. There are several better golfers available with more appealing odds. If you want action on Fowler, bet him at The Open.

Hero World Challenge odds, predictions, picks and PGA Tour best bets

Analyzing the 2019 Hero World Challenge and which golfers are the best options for the event. Who will win at Albany?

Host Tiger Woods and 17 more of the top golfers in the world are in The Bahamas this week for the Hero World Challenge. The condensed field consists of six of the top 10 golfers from the Official World Golf Ranking, including Woods and defending champ Jon Rahm. It is played at Albany which measures 7,302 yards and plays as a par 72.

The showcase tournament is the final standard stroke-play event on the PGA Tour in 2019. The Presidents Cup and QBE Shootout will run next week. There’ll then be a brief hiatus before the Sentry Tournament of Champions and Sony Open kick off the 2020 portion of the schedule in the first two weeks of January from Hawaii.

The small field and champion pedigree of each of those in attendance means bettors need to adjust their strategies this week. Make fewer, larger wagers while focusing on those at the top of the board. Only three golfers — Bubba Watson, Kevin Kisner and Chez Reavie — have odds greater than +3000. Don’t go chasing higher payouts, as each of the past four champions entered the week ranked inside the top 10 of the OWGR.

Woods has won this event five times but not since 2011 and never at this venue. He claimed his first victory of the season at the Zozo Championship in Japan in late October but hasn’t played a pro event since. He finished second-to-last here last year, but he has since climbed to No. 7 in the world. Woods has the fourth-best world ranking among those in attendance and is fourth by the odds at BetMGM in a rare case of him not being overpriced as a public favorite.

Xander Schauffele +900

Schauffele enters the week ranked ninth by the OWGR. He most recently finished as the runner-up at the WGC-HSBC Champions following a T-10 at the Zozo Championship. He debuted at this event with a T-8 finish last year. He has been an excellent early-season performer over his young career and looks to stay hot ahead of his defense of the Tournament of Champions next month.

Webb Simpson +1200

Simpson is the second-best putter in this field behind Jordan Spieth (+2500), who will not be winning. He is coming off a solo runner-up finish at the RSM Classic and sits at No. 11 in the world ranking. This is his debut at Albany, but Rahm won in his debut a year ago.

Mayakoba Golf Classic odds, predictions, picks and PGA Tour best bets

The PGA Tour returns to North America this week for the Mayakoba Golf Classic at El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The course measures 6,987 yards and plays as a par 71 under tournament conditions.

Viktor Hovland +2000

Hovland, 22, is tied with Jason Day, Matt Kuchar and Tony Finau as the tournament favorite, according to the sportsbooks. He is ranked 97th by the Official World Golf Ranking and is still looking for his first career win after turning pro in the summer. Hovland leads the field in each of the four key stats.

Emiliano Grillo +3300

Grillo is a course horse. He finished 15th last year, T-9 in 2017 and T-10 in 2016. He’s coming off a T-30 in a much stronger field at the Zozo Championship in Japan, and he placed T-26 at The CJ Cup the week before. He ranks second to Hovland in most key stats and shares the lead in SG: Approach.

Chez Reavie +5000

Reavie participated in all three events the PGA Tour just played in Asia. His best result was a T-46 at The CJ Cup in South Korea. The 33rd-ranked golfer by the OWGR ranks sixth by the stat model and is in the top five of the field in SG: Ball Striking, SG: Approach and Opportunities Gained.

Kyle Stanley +8000

Stanley plummeted down the OWGR last season while missing the cut in 10 of 25 events and picking up just one top-10 finish with a T-8 at the Wells Fargo Championship. He was ranked as high as 26th at the conclusion of the 2018 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Charley Hoffman +10000

Hoffman was the 2014 champion at El Camaleon. This number is too great for a winner from just five years ago as a $10 bet returns a $1,000 profit. He hasn’t made the cut in his last four appearances at this event, but he finished T-36 at The CJ Cup and certainly has experience on the course, even with the poor recent results.

Keith Mitchell +12500

Mitchell ranks just 73rd by the stat model, but he’s an excellent value as he has typically been priced much lower than this in more competitive fields. He made the cut here in each of his last two tries.
