Jackson Powers-Johnson leads list of Ducks among best available players in 2024 NFL Draft

Jackson Powers-Johnson and Troy Franklin are among the best players available in round 2 of the NFL Draft, per PFF.

It was Bo Nix’s time to shine in the first round and the first night of the NFL draft as the Denver Broncos selected the Oregon quarterback No. 12 overall.

Of course, Nix isn’t the only Duck that will be a part of the selection process. According to Pro Football Focus, Jackson Powers-Johnson leads the list of best Ducks still available as the draft goes on for Friday and Saturday.

Overall, JPJ comes in at No. 5 in the best available. This is what they had to say about the Oregon center.

“Powers-Johnson possesses starting-caliber power and finesse traits at center or guard for both zone or man/gap-blocking concepts,” PFF said.”He is dominant enough at his position to be considered a top-20 talent.”

Next on their list of 100 is Oregon receiver Troy Franklin, who would be a great addition for any team. Franklin is listed as the No. 6 best available player, per PFF.

Franklin might get lost in the shuffle of a loaded wide receiver class, but he shouldn’t. His smoothness comes from his athletic profile and his confidence in knowing how to win at the position. He needs to continue to get stronger, but he is a competitive player who can be a good WR2 for a vertical NFL offense.

Also on the list is defensive tackle Brandon Dorlus at No. 35, running back Bucky Irving at No. 48 and defensive back Khyree Jackson at No. 56.

We will see where everyone ends up getting drafted, and whether they hear their names called on Friday or Saturday, but it should be an entertaining couple of days for Duck fans.

Bucky Irving ranked among best RBs in 2024 NFL Draft

Pro Football Focus says Bucky Irving is one of the top tailbacks available in the NFL draft in a strong 2023 running back class.

For the 2024 NFL draft, it figures to be a fairly strong year for running backs with the likes of Michigan’s Blake Corum, and Florida State’s Trey Benson — a former Oregon Duck — leading the way.

Among the loaded group is Oregon’s own Bucky Irving, who dramatically helped his draft stock by staying in Eugene for the 2023 season. He was pretty good at Minnesota for the first of his college career, but once Irving stepped on the field as a Duck, his career went upward.

The analytical site PFF.com had to say this about the Oregon tailback.

Irving earned back-to-back 90.0-plus rushing grades to finish his college career, with his 90.8 mark from 2023 good for the third-best mark in the Pac-12. He’s averaged at least 3.9 yards after contact per attempt and forced at least 63 missed tackles in each of the past two seasons. — Trevor Sikkema

PFF ranks Irving as the No. 4 running back available to NFL teams in the draft, which is held in April.

As a Duck, Irving was outstanding. He played in 27 games and carried the ball 342 times for 2,238 yards (6.5 ypg) and 16 touchdowns.

Who were the 10 best offensive players for the Ducks in 2023 according to PFF?

Who were the 10 best offensive players for the Ducks in 2023 according to PFF?

The Oregon Ducks football team was good in 2023, but just how good?

We went to the analytics site PFF.com to find out how good the offensive players were this season.

The obvious names like Bo Nix Troy Franklin and Bucky Irving show themselves, but there are a few players that you wouldn’t think would be on the list … was on the list.

We had to figure in snap counts for the Top 10 in order to be eligible, but all in all, the Oregon offense stands up against any offense in the nation. It was good enough too make the College Football Playoff except for a few plays here and there against those pesky Huskies.

There’s always next season.

Bo Nix runs away from Penix with the Pac-12 QB rankings title

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix is the top-ranked QB in the Pac-12 with his elite play all season long.

USC’s Caleb Williams won the PFF.com Pac-12 quarterback rankings a year ago and turned that into a Heisman Trophy. Now Oregon’s Bo Nix is attempting to make it a repeat performance in the last year of the Conference of Champions.

The Trojans’ lackluster second half cost Williams games and his ranking kept going down, but the same couldn’t be said for Nix or Washington’s Michael Penix. They proved week in and week out that they were the top two quarterbacks in the Pac-12 and both should earn a trip to New York for the Heisman ceremonies.

As it should be, Nix and Penix will face each other on Friday for the last Pac-12 championship with the winner most likely claiming the Heisman.

Besides the QBs out of the Northwest, the Pac-12 had its share of great quarterback play all season long. Here’s the final rankings for the 2023 season.

There’s a new No. 1 QB in the Pac-12 according to PFF’s grades

Bo Nix leads in PFF quarterback rankings as we head into final week of regular season.

Caleb Williams won the PFF quarterback rankings last season and he also won the Heisman Trophy.

Oregon’s Bo Nix is trying to make it two straight Heismans for the conference as he leads the rankings as the Ducks head into the last week of the regular season. Right on his heels is Washington’s Michael Penix Jr.

Everyone is hoping for that rematch between Oregon and Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game in Vegas Dec. 1. The winner will not only win the conference, but they will probably earn a trip to the College Football Playoff as well and that quarterback will also be the leading candidate to win college football’s most prestigious award.

But as with so many things these days, the Cougars and Beavers stand in the way of all of that happening.

Here are the QB rankings heading into Rivalry Week.

Pac-12 QB Rankings: Nix can take over the No. 1 spot with big day vs Cal

Bo Nix may not be the leader of the PFF quarterback rankings at the moment, but a good week against Cal should change that.

Caleb Williams ran away with the PFF quarterback rankings title last season as he also took home the Heisman Trophy. The other Pac-12 signal callers don’t have to worry about that in 2023 with Williams not having that kind of season this year.

The USC quarterback is still among the best out there, but with games against Washington, Oregon and UCLA, it’s difficult to see him leapfrog three quarterbacks for the title.

Right now, the winner of these rankings could very well bring home the Heisman once again, and Oregon’s Bo Nix has a good of a chance as any to be that guy. The schedule also plays in his favor although he’s not the leader at the moment, Nix has an excellent chance to be No. 1 at this time next week.

Here’s how the rankings currently stand.

Pac-12 QB Rankings: It’s a three-horse race for the top spot

There are three candidates remaining who have a legitimate shot of winning the crown for best Pac-12 quarterback.

Caleb Williams’ hopes of winning a second Heisman went down the drain last week when the Trojans lost to Utah at home.

His sub-par performance also pretty much guaranteed he will not be the winner of the Pac-12 quarterback rankings for 2023. The title will likely go to one of three, all of whom have transferred into the conference either last season or this season.

One backup has made his way onto the list in Arizona’s Noah Fifita. The freshman has played well enough that no one is sure whether it will be him or Jayden De Laura on the field when the Wildcats take on the Beavers on Saturday night. If Arizona sticks with Fifita, it will be interesting to see where he lands on the list once the season is finished.

Here’s how the Pac-12 quarterbacks rank entering the last week of October.

I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m not smart enough to understand how PFF figures the formula that spits out the quarterback ratings from week to week. For example, Oregon’s Bo Nix didn’t play last week due to the bye week and his ratings went from 90.6 to 88.7.

The same goes for USC’s Caleb Williams. By every metric, he’s having a better season this year than he did when he won the Heisman Trophy. Right now, it seems like every unit on the Trojans is in turmoil although the Trojans stand at 6-0 and are a Top 10 team in the country, largely thanks to the stellar play from their QB.

The rankings should take shape after this week as there are a couple of huge games involving Pac-12 teams as Oregon goes to Washington and USC heads to South Bend to take on the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

As of now, here’s a look at where the QBs in the Pac-12 stand, according to the metrics used by Pro Football Focus:

Pac-12 QB rankings see a shake-up after Week 5 of the season

The PFF Pac-12 quarterback rankings keep changing week after week, unlike last season.

Last year’s Pac-12 quarterback rankings became a little monotonous with USC’s Caleb Williams being No. 1 week after week. He deserved it and eventually won the Heisman Trophy, but it would have been nice to have a change every now and then.

Fast forward to 2023.

The Pro Football Focus rankings have been in flux for several weeks, and it’s been fun to look at. USC is probably happy we don’t do the defensive rankings because that would be a horror show for the Trojans.

As for the quarterbacks, it’s been a banner season for the Conference of Champions. Williams is still having a great season, but he has some legitimate challengers to his QB ranking title, starting with a transfer from Indiana that no one expected to be this good. While Michael Penix is still the top Dawg, there is no shortage of competition gunning for him.

Here are the new rankings as we head toward the midpoint of the 2023 season.

Note: Arizona State doesn’t have a quarterback that qualifies for the rankings this week.

Ranking the QBs in the Pac-12 through 4 weeks of the 2023 season

Ranking the QBs in the Pac-12 through 4 weeks of the 2023 season

Before the season began, the Pac-12 was being hyped as a conference that would have elite quarterback play and be a nightmare for defenses.

It’s good to see how that prediction has played out through the first quarter of the season and there’s no reason to believe that this trend won’t continue.

The Pac-12 has three Top 10 quarterbacks in the country, according to the PFF grading system and five in the Top 30. To show you how great the QB play has been, Oregon’s Bo Nix is ranked in the middle of the Pac and he’s been outstanding.

It’s going to be fun watching these quarterbacks compete against other as the season moves along. We got a little taste of that last week when Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders battled Bo Nix at Autzen. Although the matchup didn’t live up to the hype thanks to the Ducks sacking Sanders seven times, future matchups like these should be better.
