Updated look at the Eagles 2023 NFL draft order after after Saints Week 14 bye

We’re tracking Philadelphia’s 2023 NFL draft order after the Saints’ bye week and the Eagles’ 48-22 win over the New York Giants

We’re now 14 weeks through the 2022 season, and it is never too early for 2023 NFL draft conversations centered around Philadelphia having multiple picks in round one.

Thanks to some draft night wizardry from Howie Roseman, the Eagles traded the No. 16 overall pick, No. 19 overall pick, and a 2022 sixth-round pick to the New Orleans Saints for the No. 18 overall pick, a 2022 third-round pick, a 2022 seventh-round pick, a 2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 second-round pick.

We’re tracking the Birds’ picks via Tankathon, and through the first quarter of the season, Philadelphia looks to be heading toward a top-four selection.

Colts grab OT, QB in latest Draft Wire two-round mock

In Draft Wire’s latest mock draft, the Colts grabbed an OT and QB with their first two picks.

In Draft Wire’s latest two-round mock draft, the Indianapolis Colts used their first and second-round picks at positions of major need.

While we are still very far away from the 2023 NFL draft, the Colts are trending toward a team with a top-10 draft pick with just four games remaining in the regular season.

In this latest mock draft from Draft Wire, the Colts took Northwestern offensive tackle Peter Skoronski at No. 9 overall and Kentucky quarterback Will Levis at No. 40 overall.

Here’s what Luke Easterling of Draft Wire had to say about the Skoronski selection:

“Quarterback is obviously the biggest need for Indy, but in this scenario, there’s not one left on the board who’s worthy of a top-10 pick. That being the case, the Colts should spend this pick upgrading the offensive line. Skoronski is a pro-ready blocker who could plug in immediately at tackle or guard.”

The Colts are still seeing what they have in rookie Bernhard Raimann, who has improved as the season has progressed. Braden Smith is likely to stay at right tackle, but it wouldn’t be a shock if a new regime moved him to right guard, considering that’s the position he was drafted at.

In the second round, the Colts took Levis, which might be a shock to some considering he’s been pegged as a first-rounder by several draft analysts.

Levis has the leadership qualities and arm talent that will intrigue teams, but there will be questions about his consistency and mechanics going into the draft process.

The Colts have needs at several major positions going into the 2023 offseason, and their early picks will give them a chance to address those needs with some quality talent.

Broncos select OT Peter Skoronski in 2023 NFL mock draft

Touchdown Wire’s latest NFL mock draft has the Broncos selecting OT Peter Skoronski,

Finally!

Every time we pass along an NFL mock draft that has the Denver Broncos selecting a pass rusher in 2023, fans comment, “We need offensive linemen!”

Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar must have read the comments.

In his latest 2023 NFL mock draft for Touchdown Wire, Farrar has the Broncos selecting Northwestern offensive tackle Peter Skoronski in the first round (24th overall).

That first-round pick originally belonged to the San Francisco 49ers — Denver acquired it from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for outside linebacker Bradley Chubb earlier this season.

Skoronski (6-4, 315 pounds) is a junior tackle who earned preseason first-team All-American recognition from the Associated Press going into the 2022 season. He appeared in 33 games over the last three years for the Wildcats.

The Broncos desperately need a new right tackle after spending several years trying to patch up the position with short-term solutions. Cam Fleming has started a majority of the team’s games at RT this season due to various injuries at the position, but he’s not the long-term answer.

Fans in Denver would presumably love to see Skoronski help patch up the team’s offensive line in 2023.

Updated look at the Eagles 2023 NFL draft order after Saints 17-16 loss to Buccaneers

We’re tracking the Philadelphia Eagles 2023 NFL draft order after the Saints’ 17-16 loss to the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football

Top OTs in 2023 NFL Draft as Browns look to replace Jack Conklin this offseason

Jack Conklin is set to be a free agent. Could the Browns find his replacement in the 2023 NFL Draft?

The Cleveland Browns may have to replace right tackle Jack Conklin as he is set to be a free agent this summer. Considering he almost retired a year ago, it is safe to say he will not be back in Cleveland in 2023 after restructuring his deal. As James Hudson has looked like a massive liability in the past few weeks, could the Browns turn to the 2023 NFL Draft to replace Conklin?

We have already tackled a series of draft-eligible defensive tackles, so now we move to another need in Cleveland. The Browns will not come on the clock until around the 40th pick in the draft, but could still fill plenty of needs with their plethora of assets.

With Penn State left tackle Olu Fashanu (potentially the best in the class) heading back to school, who are the top offensive tackles in this year’s draft class? We take a look here.

One note before diving in: Tennessee’s Darnell Wright is a talented player, but one whose skillset translates better as a guard at the next level.

Northwestern OT Peter Skoronski is living up to the hype

Northwestern offensive tackle Peter Skoronski is having a stellar start to his 2022 campaign

Heading into the 2022 college football season, Northwestern’s Peter Skoronski seemed to be the consensus top offensive tackle prospect in the 2023 NFL draft class.

A few weeks into the year, Skoronski is living up to the high expecations.

Pro Football Focus has graded Skoronski extremely high as both a pass protector and a run blocker, as he’s the only player with a grade above 85 in both categories.

If he keeps playing at this level throughout the season, it won’t be surprising to see Skoronski getting top-five consideration when next year’s draft rolls around.

2023 NFL mock draft: First-round projections based on the 2022 preseason

A mock draft before the 2022 NFL regular season begins? Yes, because scouting is a year-round endeavor. Here’s how the first round might look next year.

NFL teams obviously don’t start their scouting process for the following year in the following year. It’s a year-round process. Area scouts are readying for the 2022 college football season. Scouting directors are coordinating the whole things, and general managers are crunching a bit of tape whenever they might be able in bite-size pieces around the daily business of getting ready for their own seasons.

One thing that tells all those people what their needs might be in next year’s draft is this year’s preseason. You have a pretty good idea at this point what your team’s strengths and weaknesses are, and while you may get a slight kick from somebody else’s castoff in final cuts, you kind of have what you have unless you’re thinking about making a major trade before the deadline.

So, the 2023 draft matters. Even now, when the 2022 NFL regular season hasn’t even started.

With that in mind, here’s how I might assess team needs and prospect availability were I every general manager with a first-round pick in that 2023 draft, using the Pro Football Focus draft simulator. Team slots are based on PFF’s projections.

A few things you’ll notice right off the bat. I am assuming that the Falcons and the Texans will end the 2022 season happy enough with their quarterback situations to avoid selecting Alabama’s Bryce Young or Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, or whichever NCAA quarterback comes out of nowhere, as one quarterback seems to every year. Same with the Dolphins, who are using their non-forfeited first-round pick elsewhere. After Atlanta and Houston, the real QB-needy teams at the top of the draft — the Lions and Seahawks — act accordingly.

Here’s one person’s version of the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, based on how the 2022 preseason has gone, and how the 2022 regular season might shake out.

Top three draft-eligible offensive tackles in the Big Ten

Top three draft-eligible offensive tackles in the Big Ten #B1G

It is never too early to talk about the NFL Draft and one of the most polarizing and fun positions to discuss is the offensive tackle position. The Ohio State football program has a reputation for pumping out some talented offensive tackles. In recent memory, we’ve seen guys like Nicholas Petit-Frere, Taylor Decker, and Jack Mewhort, but the Big Ten as a whole can produce bookends.

Northwestern is projected to be a work in progress this season, but it also has a strong history of producing offensive tackle talents like Rashawn Slater, Trai Essex, and Chris Hinton. It is always fun to check out the conference’s history, but let’s see who are the most likely to hear their name called early next year.
