When is Penn State football pro day?

When will Penn State football pro day be? We now have an official confirmation.

This week marks the start of the NFL combine in Indianapolis, which is widely considered the most important week of the draft circuit for NFL draft hopefuls. But another key date for Penn State’s football players with their eyes on the NFL has been officially confirmed.

Penn State will host its football pro day on Thursday, March 24. The event is a combine-type event that is designed to show off Penn State players who want to show what they can do in front of the eyes of NFL coaches and scouts.

This year’s pro day will likely be a big one for Penn State with a good number of talented players entering the draft pool, including wide receiver Jahan Dotson and safety Jaquan Brisker. Both Dotson and Brisker opted out of Penn State’s bowl game and the Senior Bowl, which makes the combine and pro day a little more important for some scouts and coaches.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin came away amazed at what he saw at Penn State’s pro day event in 2021. Tomlin called Penn State’s a freak show after witnessing the event in person. The Steelers went on to draft tight end Pat Freiermuth in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft after spending some time working out Freiermuth at the pro day event.

Former Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons praised Penn State head coach James Franklin for having he and other Nittany Lions prepared well for taking the next step to the NFL. Franklin’s experience in the NFL certainly helps organize a structured plan to send players off to succeed at the next level.

Penn State’s pro day will take place a few days after the start of Penn State’s spring football practices. Penn State begins spring football practices on Monday, March 21. Franklin will hold a spring press conference on that same day.

Penn State’s Blue-White Game will be held on Saturday, April 23.

Jayson Oweh a top pro day winner according to Pro Football Focus

Penn State defensive end Jayson Oweh continues to receive high praise for his performance at Penn State’s pro day.

[mm-video type=video id=01f2ah7zn3gkaptf8q playlist_id=01ey902ehrs6e9bvhw player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f2ah7zn3gkaptf8q/01f2ah7zn3gkaptf8q-61f56e9e2440a6c3d31a35a26e73b478.jpg]

The rave reviews continue to pour in for Penn State defensive end Jayson Oweh following Penn State’s freakish pro day. Oweh, along with linebacker Micah Parsons, blew away the scouts during Penn State’s exhibition of potential NFL players readying themselves for the 2021 NFL Draft. As the pro day circuit winds to a close for NFL hopefuls around the country, the reviews are in, and Oweh may have gotten hot at the right time.

Pro Football Focus compiled a comprehensive list of what they viewed as the winners and losers of the pro day festivities. Oweh was the first name filed under the winners category.

“Oweh’s Pro Day performance was truly an all-timer,” noted Pro Football Focus. “He had the single best 40-yard dash time (4.39) as well as broad jump (11-2) of any defensive end ever in our database. And he’s not simply explosive in a straight line; his 6.84-second three-cone is an elite number, as well. He’s raw, but he has everything you could want to work with.”

The reactions to Oweh’s performance at Penn State pro day tend to be on the same page. While Micah Parsons is viewed as a possible top 10 pick,  Oweh is viewed as a tremendous athlete with plenty of opportunities to thrive at the next level even if his skills appear to be a bit raw at times. Considering he is a relatively late bloomer at a competitive position, that makes sense.

At some point, scouts and general managers in the NFL will have to decide just where Oweh ranks on their respective big boards. Updates to mock drafts are still a little unsettled on how to view the outlook for Oweh, with the Nittany Lion being viewed as a guy who could get into the first round or go as late as the third round.

But if you are a believer in draft momentum, there is no question Oweh has it riding in his favor with just weeks to go until the draft.

Locked On Nittany Lions: Penn State offense will be theme of spring football this week

Expect plenty of discussion about the progress of the Penn State offense this week during spring practices.

Penn State opens another week of spring football practices this week, and the offense figures to be the main talking point in the ongoing coverage. Penn State will put some key offensive players in front of webcams for Zoom conference calls this week as questions about the offense will be addressed.

Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford will be one of the first players to get to meet with the media this week (he is scheduled for a Monday conference call). While there won’t be questions about his status since he will be entering his third season as the starter, Clifford will likely be asked about working with new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich and how the transition is going for him.

What new things is Clifford working on with his new quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator (Yurcich serves both roles), and what is he seeing from his potential backups? Is Clifford even bothering to think about the possibility of Penn State heading to the transfer portal to add another quarterback to the depth chart?

Wide receiver Jahan Dotson will also be scheduled to meet with the media on Monday, and wide receivers coach Dana Stubblefield is scheduled for a Wednesday conference call, as is head coach James Franklin. Dotson will also likely be asked about what he is seeing from some of the other receivers on the team.

Wide receiver may not be quite the same looming concern it was heading into the 2020 season, but there is still some question about whether or not it will be a position that can be relied on regularly, outside of Dotson.

Also discussed in this episode is the reaction of Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin to Penn State’s pro day and what a Zach Snyder cut of Penn State football might have looked like given the reception to the recent release of the Snyder cut of “Justice League.”

What QBs in the transfer portal could be Penn State targets?

What Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said about Penn State pro day

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was impressed by what he saw at Penn State’s pro day leading up to the 2021 NFL draft.

Under the direction of head coach James Franklin, Penn State football players have developed quite the reputation in NFL combine style events. The latest exhibition of NFL talent coming out of Happy Valley was in the spotlight this week with Penn State’s pro day event.

With linebacker Micah Parsons expected to be a lock for a first-round draft pick and defensive lineman Jayson Oweh continuing to surge up various big boards, Penn State’s pro day event was one to be paying close attention to in the NFL draft cycle. And with 31 NFL teams having representation in State College, the eyes of the NFL were definitely plugged in. The only NFL team not represented in Happy Valley was the Los Angeles Rams.

Among those on hand for Penn State’s pro day was Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, and he certainly seemed to come away impressed with the display of talent brewing in Happy Valley.

“This is a freak show out here,” Tomlin said when reacting to Penn State’s pro day.

As noted by Steelers Wire, the Steelers have a few Penn State players that could be potential targets for the AFC franchise. Parsons and Oweh would certainly be good fits in Pittsburgh gold and black, but Pittsburgh may be in a position to make a run at tight end Pat Freiermuth as well. Considering Tomlin was joined by tight ends coach Alfredo Roberts, who ran some drills with Freiermuth at pro day, it sure looks like the Steelers could be looking to use a pick on the Nittany Lions tight end.

The Steelers have the 24th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Parsons is expected to be gone by then, but most mock drafts seem to have Oweh and Freiermuth available for sure by the time the Steelers make a pick. The Steelers also have the 55th overall pick and could use one on either Oweh or Freiermuth if still available.

Today is an incredibly important day for a handful of former Nittany Lions looking to make the move to the NFL. Today is Penn State’s pro day, with eight players participating in the event as NFL scouts and coaches observe what they have to offer.

While linebacker Micah Parsons is pretty much locked in to being a first-round pick and Jayson Oweh and Pat Freiermuth are definitely going to be drafted in the upper half of the draft, the pro day event could be even more important for players like Lamont Wade and Steven Gonzalez.

How to watch Penn State football’s 2021 pro day

Also discussed in today’s episode is a story posted on 247 Sports this week circling one game on each preseason top 25 team’s schedule.
