NFL officially announces four-game suspension for Jaguars’ OT Cam Robinson

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Cam Robinson suspended four games by the NFL for violating the leagues PED policy

The NFL has officially announced a four-game suspension for Jacksonville Jaguars LT, [autotag]Cam Robinson[/autotag], for violating the league’s Performance Enhancing Drug policy.  The news officially broke that Robinson had failed a test on the day of the 2023 NFL Draft, but it took two months for the league to dish out the punishment.

Robinson just signed a three-year contract extension worth $54 million in March of 2022 and has been a core piece of their offensive line since being drafted out of Alabama in 2017.  With the looming suspension, the Jaguars used their first-round pick, No. 27 overall, to select OT Anton Harrison out of Oklahoma.

The first four games on the Jaguars’ schedule in 2023 are at Indianapolis, vs. Kansas City, vs. Houston and at Atlanta, so Robinson will miss two crucial divisional games. Losing Robinson for four games is unfortunate for the Jaguars as they are primed to compete for the AFC title this year, but four games is a win for Robinson as he is probably still guaranteed to get his starting job back when he returns.

Former Alabama OT, Cam Robinson, facing suspension by the NFL for PED use

A suspension looms for Jacksonville Jaguars OT, Cam Robinson, after violating the NFL’s PED policy

On this day last year, former Alabama offensive tackle, [autotag]Cam Robinson[/autotag], agreed to a new deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars for three years worth $54 million. Today, the news isn’t quite as uplifting as the Jaguars’ left tackle is facing a multi-game suspension after violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

It’s still undetermined how many games Robinson will miss, but it is a massive blow to the Jaguars. They are the favorites to win the AFC South, and now quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be without his blindside protector. Just when Calvin Ridley joined the team and it felt like things were coming together, they now face a setback.

For Robinson, it is a costly mistake for his bank account. Robinson’s deal didn’t include a ton of incentives or guaranteed money, it’s pretty much base salary which he will lose every game he doesn’t play. The Jaguars could re-work the deal to drop the base and increase the bonuses to make sure he gets paid, but there are no guarantees they will do that. Each game that he misses for a suspension will cost him $888,888.

Arizona Cardinals WR, DeAndre Hopkins, was suspended for six games in 2022, so I expect similar punishment for Robinson. When he does return to the field, the Jaguars are serious contenders in the AFC.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Cam Robinson and the Jacksonville Jaguars

Cowboys ST Luke Gifford suspended 2 games for PED violation

The Cowboys’ linebacker hasn’t played much defense in his second year, and is now ineligible for the next two contests. Here’s why he gets 2 games instead of the stricter punishments.

The NFL has suspended second-year special teams player Luke Gifford for two games, according to several reports. His suspension is for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

With recent changes to the NFL’s policy in the most recent CBA, it can be concluded that Gifford has been suspended at the banned-stimulant level and that this is his first offense. Stimulants and masking agents get two-game suspensions while first-time suspensions for anabolics was increased to six games for a first offense. A tampered test results in an eight-game ban.

Some examples of stimulants include common names such as Adderall and Phen-fen. For a full list of the banned list for all anabolic agents, masking agents and stimulants, reference Appendix A, here.

The former Nebraska Cornhusker was an undrafted free agent signing in 2019, but after a preseason injury sidelined him, struggled to find a role with the club outside special teams. His uphill battle became steeper with the new regime as he’s been buried on the depth chart in 2020. Gifford has appeared in just one defensive snap so far this season, along with 119 on special teams.

Gifford is a member of all four special teams units.

His suspension will open up a position on the Cowboys roster. They currently have six other linebackers on the 53-man roster.

Why Josh Gordon could be Seahawks No. 3 receiver in 2020

The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed wide receiver Josh Gordon, who could make a huge impact in 2020 if he is reinstated into the NFL.

The Seattle Seahawks and wide receiver Josh Gordon have come to an agreement – the veteran has signed with Seattle to return to the Seahawks roster in 2020 should he be reinstated into the National Football League.

Seattle could use all the help it can get in the receiving department this season as quarterback Russell Wilson makes his push for the league’s Most Valuable Player. Once known mostly as a run-first offense, Wilson and the Seahawks are throwing the ball more and more. Re-enter Flash Gordon.

The Seahawks are likely set at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, but the third position is wide open for the taking and Gordon is just the man to slide right in.

Gordon played five games for Seattle last season (with only one start) and while his numbers weren’t mind-boggling (seven receptions for 139 yards), everyone who has ever heard his name knows exactly what Gordon is capable of achieving – including coach Pete Carroll, who has been open to Gordon’s return.

“Josh did a really good job with us last year, he fit in really well,” Carroll said during a Zoom press conference early in August. “He was part of this team, by the way we opened and embraced his coming to us, but also by the way he attacked it. So we are very open to that thought and we’ll see what happens.”

Gordon once led the NFL in total receiving yards back in 2013 but it’s not his ability to perform on the field that’s at issue. After numerous suspensions by the league, many wonder if Gordon is up to the task of playing is straight. He applied for reinstatement in June and is still waiting on a decision from the NFL.

With Seattle’s receiving corps – including Phillip Dorsett II – a little banged up, a healthy Gordon would be a huge boost for the Seahawks.

Franchon Crews-Dezurn reinstated as titleholder, Alejandra Jimenez stripped

Franchon Crews-Dezurn has been reinstated as 168-pound titleholder after the WBO decided to strip Alejandra Jimenez of the belt.

Franchon Crews-Dezurn can go back to calling herself a women’s super middleweight titleholder.

The Washington D.C. fighter was reinstated as a WBO titlist after the sanctioning body formally stripped Alejandra Jimenez of the belt earlier this week for failing to adequately defend her positive PED test, according to multiple reports.

Jimenez tested for a banned substance shortly after notching a wide points decision over Crews-Dezurn in their Jan. 10 title bout. That fight has since been changed to a no-decision.

According to a letter sent by the WBO to both fighters, obtained by BoxingScene.com, Jimenez was dropped as the titleholder because her argument in defense of her positive drug test was not up to snuff.

The letter read in part: “Ms. Jimenez failed to comply with this Committee’s orders as per the ‘Show Cause’ notices. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Ms. Jimenez filed two email communications with no reliable, credible, or relevant supporting evidence in her defense, rather unfounded allegations unsupported in the record.”

Said Crews-Dezurn promoter Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya: “Justice has been served. This is the correct decision to make on behalf of the WBO to reinstate Franchon Crews-Dezurn as its super middleweight champion. It is always great to see justice in action, especially in this sport.”

Jimenez’s “A” and “B” samples allegedly both tested positive for Stanozolol, a synthetic substance derived from testosterone that promotes cell growth and the development of masculine characteristics.

Alejandra Jimenez’s ‘B’ Sample reported to be positive

Alejandra Jimenez reportedly has tested positive for a PED in her ‘B’ Sample test, according to a report by BoxingScene.

Alejandra Jimenez may end up having to hand back her women’s super middleweight belts to Franchon Crews-Dezurn.

Jimenez wrested two titles from Crews-Dezurn in their spirited Jan. 11 fight in San Antonio only to learn that a urine sample — her “A” sample — collected by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency the day before the bout tested positive for a banned substance.

Now, according to BoxingScene.com sources, Jimenez’s “B” sample has also come back positive.

The banned substance was Stanozolol, a synthetic substance derived from testosterone that promotes cell growth and the development of masculine characteristics. Jimenez had the choice of either presenting a defense at a hearing or having her “B Sample” tested. Jimenez opted for the latter.

None of the parties involved have commented on the matter, as the results of the drug test have not been officially announced.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversees combat sports in the state, is in the process of changing the official outcome of the Jan. 11 title fight to a no-decision.

WATCH: Richard Sherman takes jab at NFL for ‘random’ drug testing

San Francisco cornerback Richard Sherman called out the NFL on Thursday.

San Francisco cornerback Richard Sherman called out the NFL with a touch of humor on Thursday after learning he was “randomly” selected for both a PED test and a blood test two weeks in a row.

The outspoken corner sent a pair of telling tweets from Miami, the site of Super Bowl LIV, as he and the 49ers get ready to face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday:

Sherman is still at the top of his game at 31 years old, making the NFL’s 2019 All-Pro team and receiving another Pro Bowl nod just a few weeks ago. He’s logged five interceptions this season, including one in both of the Niners’ playoff games leading up to Super Bowl Sunday.

Report: Seahawks DT Al Woods suspended 4 games for PED use

Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Al Woods was reportedly suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league’s policy on PEDs.

The banged up Seattle Seahawks defense suffered another blow on Friday with the news that veteran defensive tackle Al Woods will be suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing drugs, according to a tweet from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Woods becomes the second Seahawks player this week to be suspended for drug use, following the indefinite suspension handed to receiver Josh Gordon on Monday.

While the Seahawks feel confident in their receiving corps even without Gordon, the same cannot be said for the team’s defensive line.

With Jadeveon Clowney and Ezekiel Ansah both nursing injuries, the Seahawks are thin on the defensive line heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Cardinals. Woods’ roster spot will almost certainly be used to add depth on the defensive line, with undrafted free agent Bryan Mone likely getting recalled from the practice squad.

Dekoda Watson, whom the Seahawks signed to take Gordon’s roster spot, is more of a rusher off the edge and likely won’t replace Woods as a run-stopper in the middle.

Woods had a strong season with the Seahawks, playing alongside Poona Ford and creating a formidable run-stopping tandem up front.

He recorded 32 combined tackles, including three for a loss, one quarterback hit and one sack on the season.
