Tank Bigsby named to Paul Hornung watch list

Tank Bigsby has landed on his third preseason watch list so far.

Auburn running back [autotag]Tank Bigsby[/autotag] finds himself on yet another watch list.

Bigsby was one of 52 college football players to be named to the Paul Hornung Award watch list on Thursday afternoon. The award is presented annually to the most versatile player in college football at the season’s end by the Louisville Sports Commission.

The Hornung Award watch list is the third such watch list that Bigsby has landed on this preseason. Last week, Bigsby made the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is given to the best player in College Football. He also landed on the Doak Walker watch list, an award given to the top running back.

Bigsby is heading into his third season as the Tigers’ premier back. In 2021, he rushed for 1,099 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground and reeled in 21 catches for 184 yards.

Bigsby is one of four athletes from the SEC to be named to the Hornung Award watch list, joining Alabama‘s Jahmyr Gibbs, Mississippi State’s Ja’Quavious Marks, and Texas A&M‘s Devon Achane.

Garrett Wilson named to the Paul Hornung award watch list

Garrett Wilson just keeps racking up the preseason accolades.

The parade of preseason college football award watch lists for Ohio State players continues with the announcement of the Paul Hornung Award watch list

The Hornung Award has only been around since 2010 and is awarded to the college football player judged to be the most versatile. And when we talk about the Buckeyes, that can be none other than wide receiver/kick returner Garrett Wilson.

For Wilson, it’s yet another preseason accolade. He’s already appeared on the Maxwell and Biletnikoff watch lists as well as being named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors list. He has also found his way onto a few preseason All-American mentions.

A junior, Wilson is one of the most dangerous wide receivers in the country. He had 43 catches for 723 yards and six touchdowns as a receiver and had two carries for 67 yards in a very abbreviated season. He is also the team’s main returner in the kicking game, though those opportunities have become less of an impact in today’s game with the ability to fair-catch and bring the ball out to a decent position on the field.

The winner of the 2021 Paul Hornung Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show scheduled to be held on December 9, 2021. There has never been an Ohio State player take home the Hornung Award in its 11-year history.

The Paul Hornung Award is given to the most versatile football player in the country.

Heyward is a running back for the Spartans who nearly won the award in 2018 and finished in the Top-5.

Reed is a wide receiver and kick off returner who transferred to the team from Western Michigan after he was named a Freshman All-American for the Broncos.

Florida’s ‘human joystick’ Kadarius Toney in line for this prestigious award

Toney is Florida’s leader in receptions and yards, with 70 catches for 984 yards. He’s second on the team in receiving touchdowns with 10.

Florida receiver Kadarius Toney is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the nation. His speed and agility make him a nuisance with the ball in his hands.

In 2020, he became a much stronger route-runner, and as a result, his role in Florida’s offensive increased. He’s now reaping the rewards of a phenomenal season, as he was named a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award on Wednesday by the Louisville Sports Commission.

The Hornung Award is given to the most versatile player in the nation. The other finalists are Michael Carter (North Carolina), D’Wayne Eskridge (Western Michigan), Travis Etienne (Clemson) and Devonta Smith (Alabama).

Toney is Florida’s leader in receptions and yards, with 70 catches for 984 yards. He’s second on the team in receiving touchdowns with 10.

On the ground, Toney has 174 yards and a touchdown, and on punt and kick returns he has a combined 294 yards and a touchdown.

Assuming he departs following (or prior to) the Cotton Bowl for the NFL draft, he will almost certainly find himself a Day 1 or Day 2 selection. Now, he’ll see if he can earn some hardware on his way out.

Auburn’s Tank Bigsby named to Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll

The running back set an Auburn freshman record with 268 all-purpose yards.

Tank Bigsby was named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for his performance against Kentucky, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Monday.

Bigsby received the recognition following a huge performance in the Tigers’ 30-28 victory over Arkansas. The true freshman led Auburn on the ground with 20 carries for 146 yards. He had three carries for 25 yards on the Tigers’ game-winning drive.

He also had four receptions for 16 yards and four kick returns for 106 yards.

His 268 all-purpose yards set a new school record for a freshman.

The Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse, now in its 11th season, is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung. The winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award dinner at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville in March 2021.

The Louisville Sports Commission successfully launched the Paul Hornung Award in 2010 to honor its namesake and native son and to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players who often go unnoticed. Each week during the regular season, a panel of college football experts selects players for the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll based on performance.

A national selection committee comprised of 17 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Hornung Award finalists and the winner, with fan voting powered by Texas Roadhouse comprising the 18th vote.

Previous award winners include Kentucky’s Lynn Bowden Jr., Purdue’s Rondale Moore, Penn State’s Saquon Barkley and Sandford’s Christian McCaffrey.

Connor Heyward named to Paul Hornung Award Watchlist

Michigan State running back Connor Heyward has been named to the Watchlist for the Paul Hornung Award.

On Thursday, it was announced that Michigan State Football running back Connor Heyward has been named to the Paul Hornung Award Watchlist. This is an award given to the nation’s most versatile player. In 2018, Connor Heyward was a finalist for the award.

Heyward is a very interesting player to watch this season. Last year, he had entered the transfer portal but has since decided to stay with the Spartans. There was speculation heading into this season that he could try his hand at wide receiver or even tight end, but as of right now he is still listed as running back. Even the thought that he could transition to one of those two roles is a major testament to his versatility.
