Report: Chiefs, Patriots have received negative COVID-19 test results so far

Both teams are still receiving additional point-of-care tests. All options remain on the table for their Week 4 game.

So far, so good for the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, both the Chiefs and the Patriots have received negative COVID-19 test results since QBs Cam Newton and Jordan Ta’amu both tested positive. Each team is doing additional point-of-care tests this morning and further negative test results are needed for the league to officially reschedule the game. This is a step in the right direction for both teams.

Facilities for Kansas City and New England have been closed since the positive test results. Players and staff will meet virtually today to go over the plan for the next steps in this process. The Patriots are still in Massachusetts after postponing travel arrangements. That’s the next logistical hurdle as the NFL typically doesn’t allow same-day travel for games.

As for rescheduling the game, as of last night, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that NFL was leaning toward a Monday night double-header as opposed to playing the game on Tuesday. A Monday night game would be much more favorable for Kansas City in terms of a potential schedule crunch. When the game will be played will ultimately be determined by any forthcoming positive COVID-19 test results for each team.

We’re not out of the woods yet due to the typical incubation period for COVID-19. This is exactly what the league needed to see after the chaotic day on Saturday to keep this Week 4 game on track to be played. Now we await Sunday’s testing results. The first round of testing for the Patriots came back negative according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

NFL is moving Patriots-Chiefs game to a later date

The NFL announced it will postpone the Patriots’ game against the Chiefs which was set to take place this Sunday at 4:25 p.m.
Patriots quarterback Cam Newton and Chiefs quarterback Jordan Ta’Amu tested positive for COVID-19.
Because of that timeline, the NFL may want to wait to see if more Patriots or Chiefs get sick before bringing the teams back together, let alone exposing the teams to each other

Report: Chiefs practice squad QB Jordan Ta’amu tests positive for COVID-19

A new report says that Jordan Ta’amu also tested positive for COVID-19.

COVID-19 hasn’t just struck the New England Patriots and QB Cam Newton this morning.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs have their own positive COVID-19 test this morning. Practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be added to the reserve list according to Rapoport.

While Ta’amu wasn’t expected to play in this game, his positive test is notable. Last week, Ta’amu simulated Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson for the scout team in practice. One can assume that in preparation for another mobile quarterback in Patriots quarterback Cam Newton, Ta’amu was likely also the scout team quarterback for the Chiefs this past week.

While there is some concern, of course, for any contact with Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes, team meetings have been in most cases virtual for Kansas City. The players that played against Ta’amu in practice would likely need to isolate until they receive a negative test result.

The NFL has already announced that that they’ve postponed the Week 4 contest between the Chiefs and Patriots. They intend for the game to be played later this week, but that remains to be seen.

AFC East news: Patriots QB Cam Newton tests positive for COVID

AFC East New England Patriots QB Cam Newton tests positive for COVID-19.

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton has tested positive for COVID-19, according to multiple outlets on Saturday.

The Patriots officially moved Newton to the reserve/ COVID-19 list.

On Sunday, the Patriots have a highly anticipated matchup with the Chiefs. Instead of that game looking like Newton vs. Patrick Mahomes under center, it’ll now be either Brian Hoyer or Jarrett Stidham for New England.

The Bills and Patriots don’t faceoff until Week 8 so Newton should be off the COVID designation by then, but in the race for the AFC East title, the Pats losing their starting quarterback will be very concerning for them.

Newton will have to quarantine and post two negative coronavirus tests before he’s able to return to his team. The Pats announced on Saturday that others who were considered to be in “close contact” with Newton had additional testing done for COVID-19 but have thus far all had negative results.

Newton’s positive test also comes as the Titans are currently battling an outbreak of COVID-19 in their organization, which has now inflected 16 people in Tennessee’s clubhouse.

Report: Patriots QB Cam Newton tests positive for COVID-19, won’t play vs. Chiefs

A COVID-19 positive test will keep New England Patriots QB Cam Newton out of the upcoming matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The New England Patriots will be without star QB Cam Newton on Sunday.

According to a new report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Newton has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not play during Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Schefter added that this appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no spread so far. They’ll continue to test and re-test to ensure that is the case.

Newton will be added to the COVID-19 reserve/list ahead of the game. This is obviously a big blow for New England going into this game, but also a concerning situation for the league with a COVID-19 outbreak also impacting the Tennessee Titans.

Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham are listed as the backup quarterbacks for the Patriots. Expect one of those two players to fill in for New England this week as they head to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs on Sunday afternoon.

There is certainly the possibility that any forthcoming COVID-19 positive results could see this game postponed in the same way the Titans vs. Steelers game was delayed this week.

The Patriots have released the following statement:

We’ll keep you updated with the very latest on this situation as it unfolds.
