Patriots’ way too early 53-man roster projections

Here are some way too early 53-man roster projections for the Patriots.

The New England Patriots just completed the 2023 NFL draft, and with their roster mostly filled with new picks, free agent signings and UDFAs, there is a sense of what the training camp roster could possibly look like.

The Patriots did a really good job of filling holes throughout the entire offseason, whether fans want to agree or not. I think they added quality NFL players at positions of need and found developmental and upside players on all levels.

Let’s get into a way too early 53-man roster projection with the roster as currently constructed. We won’t get into the why just yet, as that will come as we see how everyone looks come training camp.

Key:

PS= Practice Squad

FF = Foxborough Flu/Red Shirt/IR

FA = Cutting player and letting them walk.

Regular season rookie grades for Patriots’ 2022 draft class

How did the Patriots’ rookies do this season? Patriots Wire’s Cam Garrity is handing out end-of-season grades to the 2022 draft class.

As the season comes to a close, there’s a full body of work now to look at just how well the New England Patriots’ 2022 draft class panned out.

Even though it is too early to make determinations on the entire class, we can see the potential of each player and piece together the reasons they were ultimately drafted by the team.

Were they hits or misses in their rookie seasons?

We’ll take a look at multiple things with the players, including their 2022 stats and PFF grade. And then they’ll be receiving a letter grade for the season when taking into account their total body of work.

TEAM NEEDS

Quarterback

The Patriots need to find a new starting quarterback to replace Tom Brady, which is a sentence that still feels weird to write. Even if their front office feels confident in Jarrett Stidham, they should strongly consider drafting a quarterback early or even trade up in the first round for one.

Edge Rusher

Jamie Collins and Kyle Van Noy both left the Patriots in free agency, leaving their defense devoid of their two most productive pass-rushers from their dangerous 2019 unit. Adding some talent at edge rusher should be a priority for New England.

Tight End

Benjamin Watson retired in March, leaving the Patriots with an even thinner group of tight ends than they already had. While the 2020 draft class doesn’t feature much in the way of Day 1 starters at tight end, New England would be wise to add a player with some upside at the position to their roster.
