NFL insider Adam Schefter confident Chiefs will get deal done with Chris Jones

Adam Schefter’s comments on “The Pat McAfee Show” should be music to #Chiefs fans’ ears.

Though the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 1 loss against the Detroit Lions was a less-than-ideal way to start the 2023 season, one NFL insider seems confident that the team can get one of its biggest stars back in the coming weeks.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter commented on the Chiefs’ ongoing negotiations with defensive lineman Chris Jones in an appearance on the popular Pat McAfee Show that seemed more optimistic than other recent reports.

“It doesn’t matter what anybody says,” Schefter said. “Chris Jones, at some point, is going to get this deal done, and it’s probably going to be rather quick and sudden whether that’s today, tomorrow, next week, next month, whenever. All the talk about being apart… You can close the gap pretty quick.”

Kansas City is set to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2 action on Sunday without the help of its All-Pro pass rusher. With some luck, fans may not have to wait long to see Jones back on the field.

Bills’ Josh Allen happy to be in same offense again in 2023

#Bills’ Josh Allen happy to be in same offense again in 2023:

Bills quarterback Josh Allen has again emphasized his hope to take a few less hits in 2023.

Now entering his sixth season, Allen noted throughout the offseason that he’s going to play the same as he always has but take a bit different approach to that aspect of his game. Even offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey acknowledged the QB was taking his health more serious earlier this offseason.

“(Players) are going to take a different approach in Year 4, 5 or 6 than in Year 1. When you get out there as a quarterback in the first year, you start winging it around. All of a sudden, in Year 6, you have to start warming up and doing all of the things to get your body ready for practice,” Dorsey said.

Most recently, Allen noted this during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. But Allen went into detail on how important his relationship with Dorsey is to him as well.

The two have worked together for a number of years, between Dorsey’s time as the Bills’ quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator.

Outsiders might not realize it, but time working together with the same playbook for years can make a heck of a difference for an offense… especially when your season opener is against the New York Jets.

They have a brand new QB under center in Aaron Rodgers, who has never played with his current team.

Bills’ Josh Allen: Aaron Rodgers ‘can have all the golf stuff’ (video)

#Bills’ Josh Allen: Aaron Rodgers ‘can have all the golf stuff’ (video):

The Bills vs. Jets season opener will feature a quarterback battle between Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers.

The two have faced off on the gridiron before, but they have on the links as well. On the latter, things have gone a little better for Rodgers, but Allen commented on that during an appearance with the Pat McAfee Show.

Bills fans will enjoy hearing that Allen’s priority is his job over his hobby.

“We’ve talk about it a little. I said ‘you can have all the golf stuff, I’m going to take care of the football stuff,'” Allen said.

The comment got a big reaction out of the show, too.

WATCH: Pat McAfee Show loves Bills’ Damar Hamlin

WATCH: Pat McAfee Show loves #Bills’ Damar Hamlin:

The Pat McAfee Show had an extended segment about Bills safety Damar Hamlin and his return to football.

Since suffering cardiac arrest in front of the world on the biggest of stages, Hamlin has openly become an advocate for CPR training. He has shed light on the topic and the show discussed how much they admire Hamlin for his efforts since returning to Bills training camp.

Bills’ Brandon Beane: Stefon Diggs ‘was never asking’ for a trade (video)

It was always very unlikely:

If you subscribe to the idea that it takes two to tango, there was never a chance that the Bills were going to trade Stefon Diggs.

Bills general manager Brandon Beane joined the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday. He stated during his interview that there was never a team that came in to ever try and trade for Diggs.

“No. No one called on Diggs. I think people know that he’s ours,” Beane said. “He was never asking (for a trade).”

Due to Diggs’ contract, it was always very unlikely he would be moved by the Bills this offseason, regardless of off-field issue. Based on Beane’s comments, the NFL likely knew that was the case because an offer never even came in.

Beane’s full thoughts can be found in the clip below:

Former NFL executive suggests Sean McDermott-Leslie Frazier rift

Former NFL executive suggests Sean McDermott-Leslie Frazier rift, leading to his departure from the #Bills:

[connatix div_id=”3f8b015acdd24c648befc5d5dac47469″ player_id=”afe1e038-d3c2-49c0-922d-6511a229f69c” cid=”7cbcea0d-4ce2-4c75-9a8d-fbe02a192c24″]

It has been suggested that differences between Sean McDermott and Leslie Frazier led to the defensive coordinator’s departure from the Buffalo Bills earlier this offseason.

Frazier had been Buffalo’s defensive coordinator since McDermott was hired as head coach in 2017. In a surprise, after the 2022 season Frazier and the Bills had a split.

It was said that Frazier wanted to take the 2023 season off from coaching and it was noted that he could return in 2024. It was never suggested by the Bills that he’d be back in Buffalo at that time–And regardless, something seemed off about Frazier just leaving.

According to Michael Lombardi, a former NFL general manager now with The Daily Coach, there were disagreements between McDermott and Frazier leading to the defensive coordinator’s departure from Buffalo. Specifically, McDermott wanted to call plays and Frazier did not want to give up that game-day responsibility… so he left.

Lombardi made the claim via the Pat McAfee Show clip below:

Furthering the curiosity surrounding Frazier was his recent visits to three other NFL teams. That did not match up with the idea the Bills first put out there, that he wanted to take a year off.

Frazier still could do that, but he had enough interest in a return to coaching to at least speak with other teams.

Regardless, Buffalo now moves forward with a new defensive play caller: McDermott, who now is the Bills’ head coach and DC. Both parties have appeared to move on, whether there was any difference of opinion or not.

Why it’s near impossible for the Bills to move Stefon Diggs

The dollars mean the #Bills aren’t moving Diggs:

Stefon Diggs is upset. It’s unclear why, but it’s easy to see because he was at the team’s facility on Tuesday but left and did not take part in the Buffalo Bills’ first minicamp practice of 2023.

Ideas of what is wrong are being thrown all over the place. Diggs sending out a cryptic message last night doesn’t help, either.

But one thing that’s nearly for sure? The Bills are not moving the 29-year-old.

It’s also likely that Diggs’ situation is not related to the amount of money he’s making.

Next season, Diggs is set to earn around $24 million. He can’t be upset at that.

This isn’t why Buffalo wouldn’t trade or cut him, though. The Bills would be on the hook for a lot of dough against the salary cap if that were to happen. Namely, the $45.5M dead cap hit his contract carries, per Spotrac.

All in all, no matter how upset Diggs is, it’s extremely unlikely the Bills can move him.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shines some more light on the Diggs finances in the Pat McAfee clip below:

Brandon Beane sees ‘how excited’ Sean McDermott is to be Bills DC

Brandon Beane on Sean McDermott the DC:

Next up on the Pat McAfee Show from the Buffalo Bills? Who knows, but the latest was Brandon Beane soon after Sean McDermott joined.

The general manager reflected on the head coach’s visit with the roundtable during his own interview.

McDermott previously noted during his conversation that he’s happy to be back as a defensive coordinator again. Following Leslie Frazier’s departure, McDermott stepped into that role, doubling down on his job responsibilities.

Even with more on his plate, McDermott admitted he’s having “a ton of fun” as a DC again.

As an outsider looking in, Beane sees that too.

Beane noted how he sees that joy from the coach going back to where it all started for him.

“You can see that vibrant energy, that excitement,” Beane said.

Beane’s full analysis on McDermott the defensive coordinator can be found in the Pat McAfee Show clip below:

Bills’ Brandon Beane explains the input he’s had on new stadium

Brandon Beane explains the input he’s had on new #Bills stadium:

[connatix div_id=”3f8b015acdd24c648befc5d5dac47469″ player_id=”afe1e038-d3c2-49c0-922d-6511a229f69c” cid=”7cbcea0d-4ce2-4c75-9a8d-fbe02a192c24″]

A lot went down for the Buffalo Bills early this week.

A former first-round pick, Ed Oliver, was locked in long term, a Super Bowl winner in Leonard Floyd was added, and not to mention, that whole “new stadium” thing has finally physically begun with a groundbreaking ceremony.

But according to general manager Brandon Beane, the football input began all the way back in August regarding the team’s new home.

Beane explained to the Pat McAfee Show that the Bills’ input, from a football standpoint, dates all the way back to last summer. The GM said dynamics of the stadium that the team will use, such as the locker room, players, coaches and the front office had a say in it.

Beane’s full explanation can be found in the Pat McAfee Show clip below:

Sean McDermott on Bills prime-time games: ‘We’ve moved the needle’

Sean McDermott calls it like you see it, too:

[connatix div_id=”3f8b015acdd24c648befc5d5dac47469″ player_id=”afe1e038-d3c2-49c0-922d-6511a229f69c” cid=”7cbcea0d-4ce2-4c75-9a8d-fbe02a192c24″]

Even Sean McDermott recognizes how different his September through January is now.

Technically, a game on Thursday night is not considered a “prime-time” contest. That is reserved for evening games the rest of the week during the NFL season… but Thursday’s kind of fall under that umbrella.

Taking it as a prime-time outing, in 2017 when McDermott took over as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, the team had one evening game: A Thursday.

All 15 of the Bills’ other games that year were either 1:00 or 4:00 p.m.

Now, much has changed.

Buffalo and prime-time football are connected at the hip. They are again in 2023.

The Bills will be on it six times…seven if you count their Thursday game… eight if you include their matchup in London.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, McDermott was discussing the level of successes the Bills have had in recent years. As an example, he pointed toward the amount of prime-time games the team now gets.

“We had a ton of 1 o’clock games on Sundays when we got here and now we’ve moved the needle enough, had enough success if you will, that we’re playing a ton of prime-time games this year,” McDermott said.
