Sean McDermott on Bills prime-time games: ‘We’ve moved the needle’

Sean McDermott calls it like you see it, too:

Even Sean McDermott recognizes how different his September through January is now.

Technically, a game on Thursday night is not considered a “prime-time” contest. That is reserved for evening games the rest of the week during the NFL season… but Thursday’s kind of fall under that umbrella.

Taking it as a prime-time outing, in 2017 when McDermott took over as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, the team had one evening game: A Thursday.

All 15 of the Bills’ other games that year were either 1:00 or 4:00 p.m.

Now, much has changed.

Buffalo and prime-time football are connected at the hip. They are again in 2023.

The Bills will be on it six times…seven if you count their Thursday game… eight if you include their matchup in London.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, McDermott was discussing the level of successes the Bills have had in recent years. As an example, he pointed toward the amount of prime-time games the team now gets.

“We had a ton of 1 o’clock games on Sundays when we got here and now we’ve moved the needle enough, had enough success if you will, that we’re playing a ton of prime-time games this year,” McDermott said.
