Watch: Ohio State offensive linemen go through NFL combine workouts

The trio of Buckeyes showed out today #GoBucks

Three of [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag]’s starting offensive linemen were at the NFL combine and each of them participated in workouts today.

Center [autotag]Luke Wypler[/autotag] and tackles [autotag]Paris Johnson Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Dawand Jones[/autotag] all had their moments in front of NFL teams, showing each of those franchises why they deserve to be selected.

The former Buckeye starters all have qualities that are wanted at the next level, especially Johnson Jr. and Jones.

Many, including myself, questioned why Wypler would leave early, but as a two-year starter in Columbus, he is being looked at as a player that should get selected within the first three rounds.

They all had their chance to shine today and check out below some of the drills they went through.

2023 NFL Draft: Inside the last-minute prep for the combine’s biggest names

Draft prospects have been training for weeks to ace the combine. Here’s how it looks as the clock ticks down to the on-field drills.

INDIANAPOLIS — The scene is several rooms of the lower lobby of the Omni Severin Hotel in downtown Indy. TCU receiver Quentin Johnston and Tennessee receiver Cedric Tillman are running alternating practice 40-yard dashes in a makeshift training center. Purdue quarterback Aidan O’Connell is stretching on the floor next to a television replaying a Steelers-Ravens game. Down the hall, a staff of nutritionists are putting together food plans for 99 scouting combine participants in which the amount of meat is measured in actual cows.

There’s a hot tub and a cold tub in a small fitness center, and in that same 40-yard dash place, there are massage tables and exercise bikes and treadmills aplenty. Tulane running back Tyjae Spears is leaping and hopping when he’s not running his own practice dashes, and guys are burning up those treadmills in frantic shifts as everybody gets ready for the biggest set of job interviews of their young lives.

The pressure isn’t just on the prospects. It’s also on EXOS, the multi-state performance center charged with making these prospects the best they can possibly be for everything from positional drills to interviews with teams. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik has been hired as a consultant to prepare everyone for the latter, and there’s a very large staff of professionals working frantically to get those last few reps in before things get very real on the Lucas Oil Stadium turf Thursday through Sunday.

EXOS’s list of combine participants reads like a lot of the first round of any mock draft when you filter it up top: There’s Johnston, Alabama edge-rusher Will Anderson Jr., Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez, Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon, LSU edge-rusher BJ Ojulari, Alabama safety Brian Branch, Tennessee receiver Jalin Hyatt, Ohio State receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Florida guard O’Cyrus Torrence, Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr., and on and on.

EXOS’s efforts are just as (probably more) important for the prospects on the fringe, though — the guys who are hoping to perhaps move from the third day of the draft to the second, or from an undrafted free agent future to any part of the draft at all.

2023 NFL draft: Consensus big board top 20 OT rankings

Here are the top 20 offensive tackles in this class according to the consensus big board.

The Seattle Seahawks may be better set up at offensive tackle than any other team in the NFL. Last year they landed two long-term starters in the draft with Charles Cross and Abe Lucas. While they may not need another OT, there’s always a chance they could look to draft a swing tackle for depth. Let’s take a look at some of their best options in the 2023 NFL draft.

Here are the top 20 offensive tackles in this class according to the consensus big board.

Ohio State’s Zach Harrison has high praise for two of his teammates at NFL combine

It wasn’t easy in practice for Harrison #GoBucks

Plenty of questions are being asked prior to players working out at the NFL combine and [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] defensive end [autotag]Zach Harrison[/autotag] knows he’s well prepared for the next level.

It’s not just that he is a disciple of defensive line coach [autotag]Larry Johnson[/autotag], it’s about the competition that he faced every day in practice. Both starting Buckeye tackles, [autotag]Paris Johnson Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Dawand Jones[/autotag], have played a big part in getting Harrison ready.

When asked about his teammates at the combine Wednesday, Harrison’s answer spoke a lot about the two future Sunday pros claiming that he “practiced against the two best tackles in the country every day.”

With Johnson Jr. widely thought of as the top offensive tackle and Jones steadily climbing draft boards, Harrison might end up being correct.

Latest Mel Kiper NFL mock draft has three Ohio State players in first round

Do you think Kiper is selling any of the OSU players short with this NFL mock draft? #GoBucks

ESPN’s long-time NFL draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. is at it again.

During this time of year, there’s a good chance that Kiper has his head down and in a bunker, only to come out for meals and haircuts as he sifts through all the possibilities of the upcoming NFL draft. He’s been at it for a long time and is still one of the most well-respected among all the noise and multiple NFL mock drafts out there.

And … if we’re talking about an NFL draft, then we have to be discussing some Ohio State football players hearing their names called on day one. It’s just the way the American football universe is balanced.

Kiper has now released a few iterations of his first-round NFL mock draft for 2023, and he just dropped a new one (subscription required). In it, he has three Buckeyes landing to teams on the first day but has moved things around from his last effort.

Here is where Kiper projects each Ohio State player to go in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft once the curtain is lifted in Kansas City next month.

Three Buckeyes land in first round of most recent NBC Sports mock draft

Three Buckeyes land in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft according to Yahoo Sports #GoBucks

Our friends over at NBS Sports have provided us with another gem of an NFL mock draft, this time courtesy of Phil Perry. He slots three former Ohio State Buckeyes in the opening round, which at this point in the offseason is standard. Where he has these Buckeyes landing is the interesting part.

Mock drafts are always fun to monitor because they are never 100% accurate, but they provide a glimpse into where the media ranks certain prospects and what they are hearing. It is no secret C.J. Stroud is a lock for the first round, but will he be the first quarterback off the board?

The same question could be asked about Paris Johnson Jr. as this offensive tackle class is fairly deep and the competition for the first blindside protector off the board will no doubt be stiff. Jaxon Smith-Njigba and how his injury will affect his draft stock is another situation to pay close attention to. But enough speculating, let’s dive into the most recent mock.

Yahoo Sports has five Ohio State players projected to be selected in NFL draft’s first round

A handful of Buckeye 1st rounders?!? #GoBucks

The majority of NFL mock drafts have at least three Ohio State Buckeyes being selected in the first round. Those three are normally quarterback [autotag]C.J. Stroud[/autotag], offensive tackle [autotag]Paris Johnson Jr.[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Jaxon Smith-Njigba[/autotag].

While other OSU standouts, such as defensive end [autotag]Zach Harrison[/autotag], expect to hear their name called, those choices aren’t on the first day.

Yahoo Sports thinks there might be a couple more Buckeyes that get selected in the first round according to their latest mock draft. Charles McDonald has five OSU players getting selected in the first round. Find out who they are and where McDonald thinks they’ll land below.

CBS Sports latest mock NFL Draft has Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud falling

Three other QB’s selected over Stroud?!? #GoBucks

We all know the [autotag]NFL Draft[/autotag] is rapidly approaching and many of the experts guesses as to where [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] and other starts will end up is just conjecture at the moment.

What really stands out is when any analyst deviates from the supposed normal and has some radical selections. That’s exactly what happened with CBS Sports Chris Trapasso.

First, let’s set the parameters for his mock draft. He has free agent quarterbacks [autotag]Derek Carr[/autotag] signing with the New York Jets, [autotag]Ryan Tannehill[/autotag] signing with the New Orleans Saints and [autotag]Jimmy Garoppolo[/autotag] signing with the Tennessee Titians.

Also involved in the the equation is quarterback [autotag]Aaron Rodgers[/autotag] gets traded to the Las Vegas Raiders and [autotag]Lamar Jackson[/autotag] traded to the Atlanta Falcons.

With that out of the way, find out which three quarterbacks Trapasso has going ahead of Buckeye [autotag]C.J. Stroud[/autotag] and were his two teammates, tackle [autotag]Paris Johnson Jr.[/autotag] and receiver [autotag]Jaxon Smith-Njigba[/autotag] get selected along with my reaction to each of the picks.

Ranking Big Ten teams by number of 2023 NFL scouting combine invites

A look at every Big Ten team and the players that received invites to this year’s NFL Scouting Combine. #NFLdraft

Now that all the hubbub of the Super Bowl is over, you can bet that all attention will now focus on the upcoming NFL draft in professional football circles. We’re going to hear rumors, get every so-called expert’s mock drafts, and then slice them and dice them a thousand ways to Sunday.

And more.

But before all of that, there’s this little thing called the NFL Scouting Combine that will take place next week. It begins on Tuesday, February 28, and goes through Monday, March 6.

Ohio State has historically sent a ton of players to the combine and on into the NFL draft every year, and that’s certainly still the case for 2023 with eight Buckeyes invited to take part in all of the festivities in Indianapolis.

But where does Ohio State rank among all Big Ten programs when it comes to sending players to the combine this year? Does Michigan have more with the success it’s had the last couple of years? What about Penn State?

Here are all Big Ten teams ranked by the number of players that have been invited to the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine along with a complete list of each player. We count down from the least to greatest.

The Athletic projects three Ohio State Buckeyes to be selected in first round of 2023 NFL draft

We have one main complaint about this draft projection from The Athletic. #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] football is one of the most successful at getting their players to the next level and the 2023 NFL draft should not be any different.

Multiple Buckeyes expect their name to be called early and some of them should be off teams’ boards during the first round of the draft.

The Athletic, like many other outlets, is constantly updating its mock drafts and just recently made its choices (subscription required). The Athletic is unique: It used its college football writers to make the selections based on their information.

Three Buckeyes were selected and you can find out below where each of them is projected to land along with my conclusion at the end.
