Best photos from Oklahoma Sooners vs. Ole Miss Rebels

Fantastic photos from the Oklahoma Sooners road trip to Oxford, Mississippi to face the Ole Miss Rebels.

The Oklahoma Sooners had an improved offensive performance on Saturday against Ole Miss, but it still wasn’t enough. The Rebels made adjustments to keep the Sooners from moving the ball and OU’s offense stalled in the second half.

But it was a better team effort than what we’d seen the previous two weeks against Texas and South Carolina when Oklahoma combined for 12 points and made just one trip into the red zone.

But the defense let them down this week, allowing Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart to throw for 311 yards and a touchdown on 73% completion.

That’s the way the season has gone for Oklahoma. They haven’t been able to put together a complete performance in SEC play. Now at 4-4 and 1-4 in the SEC, the Sooners will welcome Maine to town before they finish the season with Missouri, Alabama, and LSU.

Can the Oklahoma Sooners finish the season strong and find themselves in a bowl game? Before we begin to look ahead, here’s a look back at some of the best photos from Oklahoma’s trip to Oxford, Miss.

Former Notre Dame player pays tribute to Oxford High School hero

RIP Tate. The world could use more like you. #hero

Jalen Elliott is a former Notre Dame captain and now a member of the Detroit Lions after being signed to their active roster in November.  Elliott wears number-42 for the Lions and changed things up a bit as he entered Ford Field on Sunday.

Tate Myre was one of the four students killed in the Oxford High School (Michigan) shooting last week.  Myre was a junior at Oxford and a star on the football team who happened to wear 42.  He died heroically as he tried to save classmates from harm.

In a small but kind gesture, Elliott wore his No. 42 jersey to Ford Field Sunday but with a slight change.  Instead of his last name on the back it had “MYRE” across the back.

A kind move by Elliott, certainly.  The Lions winning their first game of the season was a positive for the story as well.

Jim Harbaugh also spoke about Myre on Saturday, noting how Michigan’s 42 points in the Big Ten championship game felt special.

Without getting too political I would just like to say that the world could use more people like Tate Myre.  The young man had his whole life ahead of him and died saving others from an entirely senseless act.

The young man died a hero.

BREAKING: Kickoff time for Alabama vs. Ole Miss changed

Alabama will take on Ole Miss for week 3 of SEC action, and the time of kickoff has been moved due to a potential hurricane.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are set to take on Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi this Saturday, Oct. 10. While the original time was set for 5:00 pm CT, it will now begin at 6:30 pm CT.

The change in time is due to Hurricane Delta, which is set to hit the gulf coast as a category 2 storm. The path is redicted to enter Mississippi and was cause for concern between the two programs.

There was speculation of the date of the contest being moved to either Friday, or even Sunday.

Alabama Football released a new time for the Week 3 matchup via their social media.

Lane Kiffin looks to help Ole Miss improve to 2-1 in his first season as the head coach of the SEC West program and be the first former Nick Saban assistant to defeat the coach – Saban is 20-0 against former assistants.

Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf to donate $50,000 for COVID-19 efforts

Metcalf is splitting the money, with $25k going to Swedish Hospital in Seattle and the other $25k going to Oxford to help feed the homeless.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, entering his second NFL season, is already making a huge impact on both his new community and his hometown.

Metcalf is donating $50,000 for COVID-19 relief efforts, splitting the money evenly between Swedish Hospital in Seattle and purchasing meals to feed people in need in his hometown of Oxford, Mississippi.

Metcalf grew up in Oxford and stayed close to home to play his college football at Ole Miss, before getting selected by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft.

Swedish is one of the biggest hospitals in Seattle, and they have many other, smaller locations around the city.

Metcalf is not the only Seahawks player stepping up to help in light of this tough situation as quarterback Russell Wilson has already pledged to raise 10 million meals to Feeding America, who are helping to feed people who may have lost their job thanks to COVID-19.

Former Seahawks great Cliff Avril has also pledged money to a handful of charitable organizations in the Seattle area, totaling $50,000 in donations.

Metcalf’s generosity at such a young age and after just one season in the league is the testament to what kind of person he is, and Seattle is lucky to have him.
