Senators at Canadiens projected goalies

Anton Forsberg (10-10-2, 3.09 GAA, .906 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Jake Allen (10-16-2, 3.53 GAA, .893 SV%)

Forsberg’s only appearance vs. the Canadiens this season was Saturday’s shutout win. In 2 starts vs. Montreal last season, Forsberg went 2-0-0, allowing 7 goals on 78 shots, good for a 3.52 GAA and .910 SV%. In 11 road games this season (10 starts), Forsberg is 2-6-2 and has allowed 37 goals on 370 shots, good for a 3.51 GAA and .900 SV%.

Allen faced the Senators twice last season and went 1-1-0, allowing 6 goals on 61 shots, good for a 3.00 GAA and .902 SV%. In 17 home starts this season, Allen is 6-10-1 and has allowed 63 goals on 533 shots, good for a 3.70 GAA and .882 SV%.

Senators at Canadiens picks and predictions

Prediction

Senators 4, Canadiens 1

Moneyline

PASS.

The Senators (-190) should win, but there is no need to bet almost 2 times your potential profit on the moneyline when Ottawa should win by multiple goals. Bet the puck line or total instead.

Puck line/Against the spread

BET SENATORS -1.5 (+135).

Ottawa is 4-0 vs. Montreal in the last 4 meetings and has been covering the puck line in wins recently, winning by multiple goals in 5 of its last 7 victories. The Senators are 7-1 in their last 8 games vs. the Atlantic Division and 6-1 in their last 7 vs. Eastern Conference teams. Look for Ottawa to dominate Montreal once again on the 2nd night of a home-and-home.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-120).

The Under is 4-1 in Ottawa’s last 5 games vs. the Atlantic Division and 5-1 in Montreal’s last 6 when its opponent scores 5 or more goals in their previous game. These teams tend to play low-scoring games vs. each other as the Under in 14-5-1 in the last 20 meetings. Look for Forsberg to have another impressive showing and help the Under hit Tuesday.

New York Islanders at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s New York Islanders at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Islanders (23-21-5) wrap up a 2-game Canadian road trip Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators (20-23-3) at Canadian Tire Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Senators odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders were bludgeoned 5-2 by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday, losing by an identical score as their previous loss at home against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. The Isles are in the midst of a 1-6-3 tailspin.

The Senators were knocked around 5-1 by the Winnipeg Jets on home ice Saturday, and they’re also skidding lately. Ottawa has won just 2 of its last 8 games overall.

This is the 2nd game of 3 regular-season meetings. New York won 4-2 in Ottawa on Nov. 14 as the Under just came in.

Islanders at Senators projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (15-16-4, 2.44 GAA, .922 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Cam Talbot (11-13-1, 2.95 GAA, .903 SV%, 1 SO)

Sorokin allowed 5 goals on 39 shots in Monday’s loss at Toronto, and he has coughed up 3 or more goals in 4 consecutive outings. Despite a 2-5-3 record in 10 January starts, he still has a 2.90 GAA and .911 SV%.

Talbot has been much more shaky in January, going 1-4-0 with a 3.85 GAA and .870 SV% in 4 starts and 5 appearances overall. He was actually pretty solid last time out, allowing 4 goals on 44 shots in Friday’s 4-1 loss at Pittsburgh, but he received no offensive support.

Islanders at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 4, Senators 3

Moneyline

The ISLANDERS (+100) and Senators (-120) have both been struggling lately, but the head-to-head trends are seriously in favor of New York.

The Islanders have dominated this series lately, going 10-1 in the past 11 meetings, including a 6-1 mark in the last 7 trips to Canada’s capital city.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Islanders +1.5 (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s ridiculous. There is absolutely no value playing a line so high if you need some insurance. If you like New York, just play it straight up.

AVOID.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (+115) is worth a roll of the dice at plus-money.

The Over has cashed in 5 of the last 6 meetings between these teams in Ottawa. Yes, there is concern, as the Sens have cashed the Under in 8 of the last 10 home games against everybody else. And the Under is 7-3 in the last 10 games overall for the Isles. But based on series trends, go high.

Nashville Predators at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Nashville Predators at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Nashville Predators (18-14-6) face the Ottawa Senators (18-18-3) Monday at Canadian Tire Centre in Montreal. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (NHL Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Predators vs. Senators odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Predators play the 3rd contest of a 5-game road trip. It has won the 1st 2 games in Carolina and Washington by a combined 8-5 score. Nashville has won 3 in a row overall, with at least 1 point in 5 straight outings (4-0-1).

The Senators entered Saturday’s game against the Seattle Kraken on a 4-1 run, but Ottawa was pounded 8-4 at home by the 2nd-year team. Ottawa has been playing well on offense, scoring 2 or more goals in 7 straight, and 16 of the last 17 games overall.

Predators at Senators projected goalies

Juuse Saros (14-10-5, 2.77 GAA, .918 SV%) vs. Cam Talbot (10-10-1, 2.89 GAA, .906 SV%, 1 SO)

Saros has been sharp lately, winning 3 straight starts while allowing just 7 goals on the last 121 shots. That includes a ridiculous 64-save effort in a 5-3 win at Carolina on Thursday. He was on the short end of a 3-2 loss at home against the Sens on Dec. 10, stopping 30 of the 33 shots he faced.

Talbot was rocked for 5 goals on just 19 shots against the Kraken last time out on Saturday, and he was pulled early in the 3rd period. He has lost 2 straight starts, allowing 9 goals on just 44 shots during the span.

Predators at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Senators 4, Predators 3

Moneyline

The SENATORS (-120) are worth a look as small favorites on home ice.

While the Preds have won 9 of the past 13 meetings, the home team is 7-2 in the last 9 games, with the favorite 9-4 in the last 13 in the series. Those 2 trends favor the Sens.

In addition, Nashville is just 1-6 in the last 7 tries against Atlantic Division combatants.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Predators +1.5 (-290) will cost you nearly 3 times your potential return if you don’t want to play them straight up, but would like a little bit of insurance. It’s a bad play.

AVOID.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (+115) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at most.

The Over is 4-1 in the last 5 games for the Predators, while going 10-2 in the previous 12 meetings in Ottawa.

While that’s all well and good, there is risk. The Under is 6-1 in Ottawa’s last 7 games at home, while going 20-6 in the last 26 games overall. Play it lightly.

The Senators have won back-to-back games, including a 3-0 shutout of the Anaheim Ducks Monday behind G Cam Talbot. Ottawa has scored 2 or more goals in each of the past 6 games, going 4-1-1 during the run. The Under is 12-3 across the past 15 outings.

Canadiens at Senators projected goalies

Sam Montembeault (5-2-2, 2.97 GAA, .908 SV%) vs. Cam Talbot (6-7-0, 2.55 GAA, .917 SV%, 1 SO)

Montembeault was smashed for 7 goals on 32 shots in a 7-6 overtime loss in Vancouver last time out on Dec. 5, snapping a modest 2-game win streak. He has allowed 3 or fewer goals in 7 of his 9 starts overall.

Talbot streaks in with 2 wins in a row, and a 3-1-0 record with a 2.49 GAA and .912 SV% with a shutout in 4 December starts.

Talbot has been shockingly bad at home, going 5-2-0 with a 2.16 GAA and .928 SV% in 7 road outings but just 1-5-0 with a 2.94 GAA and .905 SV% in 6 home starts. Of course, he crushed those splits with the shutout last time out at home against Anaheim.

Canadiens at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Senators 3, Canadiens 2

Moneyline

The Senators (-190) will cost you nearly 2 times your potential return, and that’s risky business anytime, but especially when we’re talking about the sub-.500 Ottawa Senators.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

The CANADIENS +1.5 (-160) are a decent play behind Montembeault, despite the fact he is coming off a terrible performance. That’s actually the reason to back him.

Fade Talbot instead, as he had the shutout last time out, and is due for another stinker. He has really struggled overall at home, too.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-120) is a decent play despite the fact the Over is 3-1-1 in the past 5 meetings in this series.

The Under has dominated lately for both sides. It’s 12-3 in the past 15 games for the Senators and 5-2 in their last 7 games at home.

The Under is 7-2 in the past 9 games overall for the Habs while cashing at a 10-4 clip in the past 14 games on the road.

The Senators were piped 5-2 at home by the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday, snapping a modest 2-game win streak. Despite the lopsided loss, Ottawa is still a respectable 4-2 in the last 6 games, including 3-1 in the last 4 against Western Conference clubs.

The Stars were paddled at home by the Toronto Maple Leafs Tuesday, getting shut out by Matt Murray and the visitors 4-0. Dallas has been feast or famine from an offensive perspective, going for 4 or more goals in 5 of the last 7 games, while posting 1 or no goals in the other 2 outings.

Senators at Stars projected goalies

Cam Talbot (4-7-0, 2.83 GAA, .907 SV%) vs. Jake Oettinger (9-3-3, 2.54 GAA, .916 SV%, 2 SO)

Talbot was pounded for 5 goals on just 14 shots before getting pulled midway through the 2nd period on Tuesday against the visiting Kings. The goal total matched his season-worst effort Nov. 8 at home against the Vancouver Canucks.

On the road, Talbot is 4-2-0 with a 2.19 GAA and .928 SV% in 6 starts, as opposed to 0-5-0 with a 3.48 GAA and .888 SV% in 5 home outings.

Oettinger was on the short end of a 4-0 loss to the Maple Leafs last time out, allowing 3 goals on 28 shots. He has allowed 7 goals on 44 shots since a 31-save shutout against the Anaheim Ducks to open the month last Thursday.

Senators at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 3, Senators 1

Moneyline

The Stars (-190) will cost you nearly 2 times your potential return, and that’s too much risk for not enough reward. Even though Oettinger is solid at home, there is a lot of risk based on Talbot’s crazy road splits, too.

AVOID, and look to the puck line instead.

Puck line/Against the spread

The STARS -1.5 (+125) are worth playing on a half-unit bet. In all 14 of its wins this season, Dallas has won by 2 or more goals. So if you like the Stars to win, you should like them to cover the puck line, too.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-105) is a strong play in this final game of the NHL evening.

The Under has dominated for the Sens lately, going 10-2 in the last 12 games overall, and 6-0 in the last 6 games on the road. The Under is also 13-6-1 in the last 20 games against teams with a winning record, too.

The Under has hit at a 4-1 clip in the last 5 games overall for the Stars, while also going 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in this series.

The Senators have picked up back-to-back wins on the road against the Anaheim Ducks (5-1, Friday) and Los Angeles Kings (3-2 in overtime, Sunday). It’s actually the longest win streak for Ottawa since posting 4 straight victories from Oct. 18-24.

Rangers at Senators projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (10-4-3, 2.58 GAA, .913 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Cam Talbot (3-5-0, 2.51 GAA, .919 SV%)

Shesterkin has allowed 11 goals across the past 3 starts, and he has lost each of his last 2 contests with 4 goals allowed in each. The defending Vezina Trophy winner is starting to round into form, going 5-4-1 with a 2.60 GAA and .912 SV% with a shutout in 10 starts in November.

Talbot has won back-to-back starts, yielding just 3 goals on 59 shots in the process after starting 1-5-0 in his first 6 starts. Talbot has allowed 3 or fewer goals in 7 straight appearances.

Rangers at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Senators 3, Rangers 2

Moneyline

The SENATORS (+110) are a decent play at home, as they look for a 3-game winning streak over the skidding Rangers.

Facing Shesterkin is no easy feat, as the defending Vezina Trophy winner has been rounding into form lately. However, Talbot is playing his best hockey of the season too.

The Senators are 9-3 in the past 12 home games against the Rangers. It’s uncanny, as Ottawa has just had its way with the Blueshirts over the years, and the way these teams have been going lately, it appears that trend will continue.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Senators +1.5 (-240) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return if you’d like a little insurance and just can’t pull the trigger and take the home ‘dogs straight up. That’s way too expensive, though. Just go with the moneyline and enjoy.

AVOID.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-115) is the play, as all trends point to a lower-scoring game.

The Under has hit in 4 of the past 5 games on the road for the Rangers while going 19-9 in the past 28 games overall.

The Under is also on an 8-0 run for the Senators, while going 4-1 in the past 5 games at home.

The Under also has a long history when these teams skate together, going 41-14-12 in the past 67 meetings overall and 20-7-7 in the past 34 meetings in Canada’s capital city.

New York Islanders at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s New York Islanders at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Islanders (10-6-0) travel north of the border to take on the Ottawa Senators (5-8-1) Monday. Puck drop at Canadian Tire Centre is at 5:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Senators odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders bounced back and beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in overtime Sunday to get back on track after being shutout 2-0 by the Arizona Cardinals Thursday.

The Islanders, currently 2nd place in the Metro division, are looking to stay on pace with the New Jersey Devils who have come out sprinting to a 12-3-0 record to start the year.

The Senators are struggling in all facets right now, from on ice where they are 5-8-1 to the financials where they are up for sale. A win here could be a blessing as they hope to make a push out of last place in the Atlantic division.

Islanders at Senators projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (7-4-0, 2.17 GAA, .932 SV%) vs. Cam Talbot (1-2-0, 2.35 GAA, .925 SV%)

Sorokin is 4th in the NHL in GAA this season and 5th in SV% amongst starters.

Islanders at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 3, Senators 2

Moneyline

BET ISLANDERS (-120).

Neither of these teams tends to score a lot. This will be a close game and taking either side on the puck line is not worth the risk. With the value on the Islanders (-120), this is the way to go.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

Do not bet on the PL in this game. The odds for either side are far too high to make it a viable wager.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-117).

Both goalies are good. The Senators are not likely to get many goals past Sorokin. Although Talbot is a bit freer, his 2.35 GAA is still solid for a backup goaltender.

Giving up just 9 goals in 3 starts, with 6 of those coming in one game, Talbot will look to return to his form of allowing few goals. The Islanders will win a low-scoring game here. The UNDER 6.5 (-117) is my favorite play.

Arizona Coyotes at Ottawa Senators odds, picks, and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Arizona Coyotes at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Arizona Coyotes (18-36-4) play the fourth contest of a five-game East Coast road trip against the Ottawa Senators (21-32-5) at the Canadian Tire Centre Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Coyotes vs. Senators odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Coyotes have come alive lately and have won four of their last five games while rolling up 24 goals across the win four victories. That includes an 8-5 victory in Arizona against the Senators March 5.

The Senators saw a modest two-game win streak snapped Saturday when the visiting Chicago Blackhawks doubled them up 6-3. The Sens have posted a 2-6-1 record in the past nine games at CTC, averaging just 1.89 goals per game during the stretch.

  • Against the spread (ATS): Coyotes +1.5 (-190) | Senators -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: -125 | U: +100)

Coyotes at Senators projected goalies

Scott Wedgewood (9-13-3, 3.17 GAA, .906 SV%) vs. Filip Gustavsson (3-9-1, 3.66 GAA, .896 SV%)

Wedgewood was the backstop in the first meeting with the Senators on March 5. He allowed 5 goals on 46 shots to pick up the victory as he received 8 goals of offensive support.

Gustavsson has dropped six consecutive starts, with his last victory coming Nov. 13 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has allowed 3 or more goals in six of his past seven outings.

Coyotes at Senators odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Coyotes 5, Senators 3

Money line

The COYOTES (+135) don’t win very many games on the road, but they’re a tremendous value here.

Arizona has been red-hot lately, which isn’t something you get to say very often. It will stay hot and pick up the victory against a Senators side which has no business being favored by this much against anybody.

Against the spread

The Coyotes +1.5 (-190) will cost you nearly two times your potential return. That’s just way too expensive, and they’re a much better play straight up.

PASS.

Over/Under

The OVER 5.5 (-125) is the best play on the board in this battle between cellar dwellers. These teams combined for 13 total goals in Arizona March 5, more than doubling the total of 5.5 goals in the first meeting.

The Over has hit in the past two for the Sens, with Ottawa averaging 3.7 goals per game in the previous three outings. The Over is 3-1 in the previous four contests for Arizona, with the offense averaging a gaudy 6.0 GPG during the stretch.

Dallas Stars at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Dallas Stars at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Stars (1-1-0) faces the Ottawa Senators (1-1-0) Sunday at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Stars vs. Senators odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Stars opened the season with a 3-2 overtime win in New York against the Rangers, cashing as slight underdogs. Dallas then played in Boston Saturday, falling 3-1. C Luke Glendening was the only goal scorer for the Stars.

The Senators also played Saturday in Toronto, capping off a home-and-home with their provincial rivals. After winning 3-2 in the opener Thursday, Ottawa also fell 3-1 in its game Saturday, with C Josh Norris accounting for the only offense.

Stars at Senators projected goalies

Anton Khudobin (1-0-0, 0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV%) vs. Filip Gustavsson (5-1-2, 2.16 GAA, .933 SV% in 2020-21)

Khudobin appeared in relief of Braden Holtby in the opener, coming on with just under 12 minutes left in regulation after Holtby had his helmet knocked off. Khudobin finished up and won the game in overtime.

Gustavsson hasn’t appeared in the first two games with Anton Forsberg handling the chores. But with the quick turnaround, Gustavsson gets his first shot of the season.

Stars at Senators odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 3, Senators 2

Money line

The STARS (-145) are a good play in this second end of a back-to-back. Normally, it wouldn’t really be a recommended play to take Dallas. It is 4-11 in the past 15 with no rest, and they just traveled in from Boston, which is even more challenging this season with COVID protocols, etc.

However, the Senators (+120) also had to travel after an emotional game in Toronto. And they’re a dismal 11-40 in the previous 51 when playing in the second end of a back-to-back situation.

Against the spread

The Senators +1.5 (-230) are a little on the expensive side if you want insurance for the home team. Yes, Ottawa is 6-0 in its past six at home, including 6-0 in the past six as a home underdog. But I like Khudobin and the visitors just a little bit better, especially because they have played a good brand of defense to start the season.

AVOID.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (-115) is the best play on the board. While it’s still obviously early in the season, both of these teams might be a tad sluggish in a matinee game after playing on the prior evening. The schedule maker did not do these teams a favor, but Under bettors should be able to take advantage.

Ottawa Senators at Calgary Flames odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Ottawa Senators at Calgary Flames odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Ottawa Senators (22-27-5) travel to meet the Calgary Flames (22-26-3) Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for an 8 p.m. ET at Scotiabank Saddledome. Below, we analyze the Senators-Flames odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Senators have struggled this season, but they’re finishing up strong. They have won three in a row, and five of the past six while going 8-1-1 across the past 10.

The Flames were blanked by the visiting Winnipeg Jets last time out Wednesday, and they have dropped three of the past four outings while scoring a total of five goals during the stretch.

Senators at Flames: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Senators +160 (bet $100 to win $160) | Flames -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Senators +1.5 (-150) | Flames -1.5 (+125)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Senators at Flames: Projected starting goalies

Anton Forsberg (3-3-1, 2.87 GAA, .917 SV%) vs. Jacob Markstrom (18-19-2, 2.70 GAA, .904 SV%, 3 SO)

Forsberg has picked up victories in each of his past two starts. He has yet to face the Calgary Flames this season.

Markstrom has dropped each of his two starts in May, falling below .500 overall. While he has a dismal 0-3-1 record against the Flames in four starts this season, he has a solid 2.49 GAA and .894 SV%.

Senators at Flames: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Senators 4, Flames 2

Money line (ML)

The SENATORS (+160) are a strong value, as they have won nine of their past 11 games overall, while the Flames (-190) are struggling mightily.

While the Sens have had trouble playing on no rest, they’re still worth playing lightly. Ottawa has won five of the past six as an underdog, and Calgary is just 3-5 in the past eight overall.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

If you’re not feeling the SENATORS +1.5 (-150) straight up, they’re not terribly expensive if you’d like a little bit of insurance.

Still, they’re a much better value straight up since they’ve been red hot, and the Flames have been ice cold.

Over/Under (O/U)

O/U 6 is a not a good play. The best play here might be playing the alternate line of UNDER 6.5 (-140) for a small-unit wager.

The Under has hit in four straight for the Flames, while going 3-1-2 in the past six on the road for the Sens.
