Edmonton Oilers at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Edmonton Oilers at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Edmonton Oilers (9-8-2) and Ottawa Senators (8-8-1) tangle Tuesday  at the Canadian Tire Centre. The opening puck drop is at 7 p.m. (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Oilers vs. Senators odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; tied 1-1 last season

The Oilers are wrapping up a 3-game road trip that included a Monday tilt at the Montreal Canadiens. Edmonton lost 3-0 and is thus far 0-1-1 on a trip that opened in Toronto.

The Senators have lost 2 straight games (0-1-1) and are 2-3-1 since Nov. 5. Ottawa has been outscored 20-13 over that stretch. The Sens have been off for 2 days after a 4-0 loss at the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday.

Oilers at Senators projected goalies

Stuart Skinner (5-5-2, 3.28 GAA, .877 SV%) vs. Linus Ullmark (4-4-1, 2.77 GAA, .890 SV%)

Skinner last played Saturday, allowing all the goals in a 4-3 overtime loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs. He owns an .844 SV% over his last 3 games.

Ullmark will be appearing in his first game since coughing up 5 scores in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers Nov. 14. The 31-year-old Swede has struggled this month, posting an .877 SV% in 5 games.

Oilers at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 5, Senators 3

Moneyline

PASS.

Looking for an Edmonton advantage in a somewhat looser game, and the puck line offers a better return after the Oilers taking on lots of ML bets early.

Puck line/Against the spread

Edmonton is 3-1 over its last 4 games against Ottawa. The Oilers’ last two 2-game losing streaks were snapped by wins of 4-0 (Oct. 25 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins) and 7-3 (Nov. 9 vs. Vancouver Canucks).

The Oilers outshot Montreal 30-25 Monday and have outshot their opponents in 5 straight games.

Both develop scoring chances at a higher rate than what would be expected by scoring averages of 2.63 goals per game (Edmonton) and 3.24 GPG (Ottawa). (That’s a key reason for a lean on the Over: see below.) But the Oilers are more proficient in developing more 5-on-5 looks from the slot.

TAKE EDMONTON -1.5 (+185).

Over/Under

The Over is 3-1 across the last 4 Edmonton-Ottawa games.

Both sides are solid in getting medium-quality-or-better shot attempts. The likely goaltending match-up doesn’t offer a lot of pushback.

The Sens have been shorthanded frequently of late, and the Oiler power play — clocking a mere 16.3% success rate so far — is a big area of expected growth in production looking forward.

FanDuel Sportsbook offers a better price here: TAKE THE OVER 6.5 (+100).

Ottawa Senators at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Ottawa Senators at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Ottawa Senators (4-3-0) travel to meet the Colorado Avalanche (4-4-0) at Ball Arena in Denver on Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Senators vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Avalanche won 2-0 in 2023-24

The Senators lost 6-4 on the road against the Vegas Golden Knights Friday as the Over (6.5) cashed. The Over and Under have alternated in each of the past 6 outings since Oct. 12.

The Avalanche dropped the first 4 games this season, cashing the Over in each of the outings, while allowing 5 or more goals in each contest. Colorado has since won 4 in a row, allowing a total of 4 goals in the previous 3 games, while the Under is 3-0-1 in the win streak.

Colorado has won 7 of the past 8 meetings since Feb. 6, 2020, while the Over has cashed in 6 in a row. In the 4-game series win streak for the Avs, Colorado has outscored Ottawa 23-12.

  • Moneyline (ML): Senators +135 (bet $100 to win $135) | Avalanche -160 (bet $160 to win $100)
  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Senators +1.5 (-175) | Avalanche -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Senators at Avalanche projected goalies

Linus Ullmark (1-2-0, 3.44 GAA, .882 SV%) vs. Justus Annunen (3-1-0, 2.08 GAA, .917 SV%)

Ullmark allowed 5 goals on 27 shots in a 6-4 loss at Vegas on Friday, and he has coughed up 9 goals on 53 shots in the past 2 starts, both losses, after his 31-save debut win Oct. 10 against the Florida Panthers.

Annunen has rattled off 3 consecutive victories, including a 25-save effort in a 5-1 win on the road against the Utah Hockey Club last time out on Thursday. He has allowed just 4 goals on 79 shots in the previous 3 outings.

Senators at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Senators 3

Moneyline

The AVALANCHE (-160) is a little on the pricey side, but Colorado appears to have caught lightning in a bottle with Annunen, and he and the team are playing very well of late.

The Senators (+135) shelled out big money to Ullmark, but the early returns have been a little uneven. He isn’t likely to turn things around against a high-octane Colorado offense.

Puck line/Against the spread

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+145) are worth a roll of the dice if you’re a little less conservative.

Colorado has won 3 of the past 4 meetings by 2 or more goals, and the Avalanche have cashed on the puck line in 6 of the past 8 meetings since Feb. 6, 2020. So, if you like the Avs to win, you should like them to cover, too.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-120) is worth a look, as the total has ended up going high in 6 consecutive meetings in this series.

The Over and Under have alternate in each of the past 6 games for the Senators, so be careful.

In addition, the Under is 3-0-1 in the past 4 games for the Avs, although the total has cashed high at a 3-0-1 clip in 4 home contests at Ball Arena.

Devils at Senators projected goalies

Jacob Markstrom (2-2-0, 2.79 GAA, .904 SV%) vs. Anton Forsberg (0-0-0, 6.86 GAA, .667 SV%)

After a strong start to the season, allowing only 1 goal in the opener, Markstrom has allowed 3 or more goals in each of his last 4 games. He has finished with a .900 SV% or better in 3 of the 4 games.

Forsberg saw his first action of the season in Monday’s win over the Kings. He allowed 3 goals on 9 shots before being pulled. The 10th-year goalie has a career 3.11 GAA and .904 SV%.

BET SENATORS (+105).

Ottawa is 2-0 at home this season, including a 3-1 win as a +122 underdog vs. the Florida Panthers in the Oct. 10 opener. The Senators have scored a total of 12 goals over their 3 games, while the Devils have scored 3 or fewer goals in 4 of their last 5. New Jersey has also allowed 3 or more goals in both road games this season.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

The Senators’ moneyline has the best value in this matchup.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-115).

New Jersey is 1-4-1 O/U and has scored 3 or fewer goals in 4 of its last 5 games. It has allowed 3 or fewer goals in 4 of 6 games this season.

Florida Panthers at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Florida Panthers at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Florida Panthers (1-0-0) and Ottawa Senators (0-0-0) meet Thursday. Puck drop from Canadian Tire Centre is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Panthers vs. Senators odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Panthers won 4-0 last season

The Panthers opened their season with a 6-4 win against the Boston Bruins Tuesday as -161 home favorites. C Sam Bennett had 2 goals while C Sam Reinhart and C Evan Rodrigues each had a goal and assist.

Ottawa opens its season Thursday. Last season, it finished 7th in the Atlantic Division with a 37-41-4 record (78 points) and missed the playoffs. It finished 26th in the league with 281 goals allowed, something it will focus on improving to vie for a playoff berth this season.

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Panthers -1.5 (+180) | Senators +1.5 (-225)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Panthers at Senators projected goalies

Sergei Bobrovsky (1-0-0, 4.00 GAA, .857 SV%) vs. Linus Ullmark (22-10-7, 2.57 GAA, .915 SV%, 2 SO in 2023-24)

Bobrovsky struggled in his season debut Tuesday, allowing 4 goals on 28 shots. He is entering his 15th season and was a large part of the Panthers Stanley Cup victory last season. He should be expected to turn things around quickly to continue the Panthers’ success.

Ullmark is the expected goaltender for Ottawa for its season opener. He is entering his 10th season, including his first with the Senators.

Panthers at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 3, Senators 2

Moneyline

BET PANTHERS (-115).

While the Panthers seemingly struggled on defense in their opener, allowing 4 goals, their offense looked like one of the best in the league. With 6 goals, many coming in rapid succession, Florida displayed its championship-caliber team. While the road environment will present challenges, expect Florida to continue where it left off with another victory.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

Even with the Panthers’ proven attack, Ullmark is more than capable of keeping this game within reach.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-115).

Between Bobrovsky and Ullmark, this matchup will be lower scoring. Dating back to last season, the Senators have been held to 3 or fewer goals in 8 of their last 10 games while allowing 2 or fewer in 4 of their last 6. With a slightly higher total than usual, the Under is the best bet.

Ottawa Senators at Boston Bruins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Ottawa Senators at Boston Bruins odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Ottawa Senators (36-41-4) visit the Boston Bruins (47-19-15) to wrap up their regular seasons at TD Garden Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Senators vs. Bruins odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Bruins lead 2-0

The Senators were routed 4-0 by the New York Rangers Monday at Madison Square Garden, cashing the Under for the 4th time in the past 5 games. The total has gone low at a 7-2-1 pace in the past 10 outings, too.

The Bruins need a win in regulation, overtime or a shootout to secure the Atlantic Division title, as the 1st tiebreaker is regulation wins, should Boston tie with the Florida Panthers in points. The Panthers host the Toronto Maple Leafs Tuesday night in Sunrise.

Boston is coming off a 2-0 loss in Washington Monday night as the Under (5.5) cashed. The total has gone low in 7 of the past 8 outings, while the B’s have dropped 2 of the past 3.

Boston has won 4 in a row in this series, including both meetings by a combined 9-4 score. That includes a 6-2 win at TD Garden March 19 in the only meeting in Boston this season.

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Senators +1.5 (-145) | Bruins -1.5 (+120)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Senators at Bruins projected goalies

Anton Forsberg (14-12-0, 3.30 GAA, .886 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Linus Ullmark (22-9-7, 2.59 GAA, .916 SV%, 2 SO)

Forsberg picked up a win last time out in Tampa against the Lightning, allowing just 2 goals on 26 shots in a 3-2 SOW Thursday. He has allowed 7 goals on 49 shots in 2 starts and 3 appearances in April. Forsberg hasn’t faced the Bruins this season.

Ullmark allowed 4 goals on 32 shots in a 6-4 win in Pittsburgh against the Penguins, but he has won all 3 of his starting assignments in April, going 3-0-0 with a 1.98 GAA and .935 SV% in 3 starts. He allowed 2 goals on 31 shots in a 6-2 win at home March 19 against the Sens in his only appearance against them this season.

Senators at Bruins picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 4, Senators 2

Moneyline

The Bruins (-225) have dominated this season of late, and they’re playing for a division title. Boston will have the pedal to the metal looking to get the job done, especially in front of its rabid fans. The Senators (+180) are in a tough spot, facing a team in their barn looking to secure a division title. Ottawa didn’t offer much resistance at MSG Monday, and it isn’t likely to be much of a bother to Boston, either.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

The BRUINS -1.5 (+120) are a decent play at plus-money on the puck line, although don’t be surprised if it comes down to the end, perhaps needing an empty-net goal to get over the hump.

In 3 of the past 4 victories for the B’s, they have won by 2 or more goals. So, if you like Boston to get the job done, you should like it on the puck line, especially at home against a team well out of the playoffs.

Over/Under

Total 6 (O: -105 | U: -115) is not worth playing, as the goal total is expected to come down right on the number.

The lean would be to the Under, since we’ve seen the total go low in 7 of the past 8 games, and Boston and Ottawa were each shut out in their road games Monday night.

However, the best play is to PASS.

Washington Capitals at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Washington Capitals at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Washington Capitals (1-1-0) and Ottawa Senators (2-1-0) meet Wednesday at Canada Tire Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Capitals vs. Senators odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

After an ugly 4-0 loss in the opener at home Friday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Capitals rebounded for a 3-2 shootout win Monday against the Calgary Flames as an underdog (+112). The Under has cashed in both games for Washington so far.

The Senators kicked off the season with a 5-3 road loss at the Carolina Hurricanes, although they played pretty well until the wheels fell off in the 3rd period. They came home and rebounded with a pair of 5-2 victories against the Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Capitals at Senators projected goalies

Darcy Kuemper (1-0-0, 1.85 GAA, .950 SV%) vs. Joonas Korpisalo (1-1-0, 3.53 GAA, .894 SV%)

Kuemper missed the opener against the Penguins due to the birth of his 1st child, but the new dad kicked aside 38 of the 40 shots he faced in his season debut Monday to snuff out the Flames in the 3-2 shootout win.

Kuemper went 1-1-1 with a 2.97 GAA and .920 SV% in 3 starts against the Senators last season. The Dec. 22 win was his most recent appearance in Ottawa, as he made 23 saves in a 3-2 OT win.

Korpisalo rebounded from his uneven performance in Raleigh, allowing just 2 goals on 24 shots in a 5-2 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning in his 1st showing in front of the home fans on Sunday.

Korpisalo allowed 4 goals on 34 shots in a 4-3 OT loss against the Capitals on Jan. 31 as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Capitals at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Senators 4, Capitals 2

Moneyline

The SENATORS (-165) are moderate favorites, but well worth the risk. Ottawa is playing very good hockey at home so far, including an impressive 5-2 win against the Lightning.

The Capitals (+140) are a tempting play now that Kuemper is back from a personal leave, but we haven’t seen him, or Washington, on the road yet. We know what we’re getting from the Sens at home, and it’s been pretty good.

Puck line/Against the spread

The SENATORS -1.5 (+140) are worth a roll of the dice on the puck line, but go lightly. Ottawa has outscored the opposition 10-4 in 2 home games, covering the puck line in both outings as a favorite.

However, the Capitals +1.5 (-165) looked pretty sharp last time out, grabbing the 1st NHL win as a head coach for Spencer Carbery, so be careful.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-110) is worth a look, but go lightly.

The Senators are averaging 4.3 goals per game (GPG) in 3 outings, while allowing 3.0 GPG, and the Over is 2-0-1 on the young season.

However, the reason to go low is because the Capitals have cashed the Under in each of their outings, totaling 3 goals, while allowing 6 goals. Washington’s offense just isn’t hitting on all cylinders, and that will be a problem against a Sens team playing well at home.

Tampa Bay Lightning at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tampa Bay Lightning (1-1-0) and the Ottawa Senators (1-1-0) meet Sunday at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Lightning vs. Senators odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Lightning opened with a 5-3 win at home Tuesday against the Nashville Predators, but it was on the short end of a 6-4 road loss against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. Now, it faces the quick turnaround and a border crossing.

The Senators lost 5-3 on the road against the Carolina Hurricanes Wednesday, before bouncing back for a 5-2 home win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon. The Over is 2-0 for Ottawa so far, with the Senators seeing an average of 7.5 goals per game so far.

Tampa Bay has dropped 9 straight games when playing on no rest, last winning Dec. 29 against the New York Rangers. The Over is 3-1-1 in the past 5 games when working on no rest.

For Ottawa, it went 6-6 in 12 games last season when playing on no rest, while going 7-5 on the puck line. The Under is 8-3 in the past 11 when playing on no rest, too.

Lightning at Senators projected goalies

Matt Tomkins (making NHL debut) vs. Joonas Korpisalo (0-1-0, 5.05 GAA, .881 SV%)

After Jonas Johansson started in Detroit on Saturday, stopping 36 of the 41 shots he faced in a loss, it will be Tomkins getting the starting nod for the visitors on Sunday. It will also be his NHL debut. The former Ohio State Buckeyes backstop went 20-12-0 with a 2.53 GAA and .911 SV% with 2 SO in 32 games for Farjestads BK Karlstad in the Swedish Hockey League.

Johansson and Tomkins are the goaltender duo, at least until Thanksgiving in late November, as Andrei Vasilevskiy recovers from back surgery.

Korpisalo made his team debut in Carolina in the regular-season opener Wednesday, and he was peppered for 42 shots, allowing 5 goals in the setback.

Lightning at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Senators 5, Lightning 3

Moneyline

The SENATORS (-115) are a solid value at home, especially against the rookie goalie making his debut. Coach D.J. Smith used Anton Forsberg in Saturday’s game, saving Korpisalo for the more difficult opponent. It should pay off with a victory.

The Lightning (-105) have dropped each of the past 9 games when playing on no rest, and confidence isn’t high that Tomkins will be able to help them snap that skid in his NHL debut.

Puck line/Against the spread

The SENATORS -1.5 (+195) are worth playing very lightly on the puck line for a chance to nearly double up.

Ottawa went a respectable 7-5 on the puck line last season in 12 games when playing on no rest. On the flip side, the Lightning +1.5 (-250) have not only lost 9 in a row in the 2nd end of a back-to-back set, they’re 0-9 on the puck line in those games, too.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-125) is worth a look in Sunday’s game, a back-to-back for both teams.

The Over has cashed in both games for the Senators so far, averaging 4.0 goals per game, while allowing 3.5 GPG. The Lightning has also hit the Over in both outings to date, both scoring and allowing 4.5 GPG. And if that doesn’t make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, the Over has cashed in 4 straight meetings between these teams, while going 7-2 in the previous 9 in the series.

The Ottawa Senators and the Carolina Hurricanes open the 2023-24 National Hockey League regular season Wednesday at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Senators vs. Hurricanes odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Senators made some big splashes with new ownership, grabbing goaltender Joonas Korpisalo to guard the team’s cage. The offense was bolstered with LW Dominik Kubalik and RW Vladimir Tarasenko, while the defense added Jakob Chychrun. This Ottawa team figures to make a strong push for the playoffs, and it will be much more competitive than recent years.

The Hurricanes look to make another Stanley Cup push, and the team added scoring punch with LW Michael Bunting and LW Brendan Lemieux up front, as well as enhancing an already deep defense corps with Tony DeAngelo and Dmitry Orlov.

Senators at Hurricanes projected goalies

Joonas Korpisalo (18-14-4, 2.87 GAA, .915 SV%, 1 SO – 2022-23 w/Blue Jackets and Kings) vs. Frederik Andersen (21-11-1, 2.48 GAA, .903 SV% , 1 SO)

Korpisalo ended up winning 18 games last season in Columbus and Los Angeles, his 2nd-best win total in a single season in his career. He parlayed that into a lucrative deal in Canada’s capital city. Korpisalo was especially strong in a playoff push with Los Angeles, going 7-3-1 with a 2.13 GAA and .921 SV% with a shutout in 11 regular-season starts for the Kings.

Andersen leads a busy goaltender room in Raleigh, also featuring Antti Raanta and Pyotr Kochetkov. He was especially impressive at home last season, going 11-6-1 with a 2.27 GA and .908 SV%. The veteran lost his only start against the Sens last season, allowing 3 goals on 32 shots in a 3-2 loss at Ottawa on April 10.

Senators at Hurricanes picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Senators 2

Moneyline

The Hurricanes (-210) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, which is risky considering the fact the Senators (+170) should be much improved. In fact, Ottawa is a bit of a wild card, as it has a lot of talent amassed on the roster, it’s now a matter of how quickly it can jell together.

AVOID.

Puck line/Against the spread

The SENATORS +1.5 (-140) are a decent value on the puck line. Ottawa is a strong underdog on the puck line, as this game could very well go to overtime or a shootout with 2 good goaltenders.

The Hurricanes -1.5 (+115) have traditionally had difficulty in the home opener, especially since it plays a single game, then heads out on a West Coast swing to start because of the presence of the North Carolina State Fair taking over the area, arena parking lot, etc.

Over/Under

UNDER 6 (-105) is also worth playing lightly. Ottawa’s offense is much improved, as Kubalik and Tarasenko should definitely improve the team’s scoring. And Carolina had a high-flying team last season, and Bunting will add more offense up front, with DeAngelo helping quarterback the power play. Still, the goaltenders should be ahead of the offenses in this opener, with scoring at a premium.

Carolina Hurricanes at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with expert NHL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Carolina Hurricanes (50-20-9) wrap up a 3-game road trip against the Ottawa Senators (38-35-7) Monday. Puck drop from Canadian Tire Centre is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Hurricanes vs. Senators odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Hurricanes enter play Monday with 109 points, 1 point clear of the 2nd-place New Jersey Devils, and 3 points clear of the 3rd-place New York Rangers. Carolina has 3 games remaining and has 1 game in hand over both the Devils and the Rangers.

Carolina has lost the first 2 games of the road trip, losing 3-0 against the Nashville Predators Thursday and 4-3 against the Buffalo Sabres Saturday. This is the 1st of back-to-back games against teams already eliminated from the playoff chase.

Ottawa was eliminated from the playoffs in the past week but still throttled the playoff-bound Tampa Bay Lightning 7-4 Saturday. The Senators snapped an 0-2-2 skid with the win.

Hurricanes at Senators projected goalies

Frederik Andersen (20-10-1, 2.41 GAA, .904 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Cam Talbot (17-14-2, 2.93 GAA, .898 SV%, 1 SO)

Andersen was in the crease for Thursday’s 3-0 loss in Nashville, although he was solid with 20 saves on 22 shots. He has received a total of just 8 goals of offensive support in the previous 5 outings.

Talbot backstopped the 7-4 win against the Lightning last time out, allowing 4 goals on 24 shots, and has won 5 of his past 6 starts dating back to Feb. 27. He allowed 3 goals on 29 shots in a 4-0 loss at Carolina in his only appearance against the Hurricanes this season on Feb. 24.

Hurricanes at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 4, Senators 3

Moneyline

The Hurricanes (-190) will cost you nearly 2 times your potential return, and that’s too much risk for not enough reward.

Carolina is desperate for 2 points as it looks to keep hope alive for a Metropolitan Division championship. However, the Senators belted the high-octane Lightning last time out, and don’t appear ready to go quietly into the night.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

The HURRICANES -1.5 (+125) are a better play at plus money.

Carolina topped Ottawa 3-2 in OT Tuesday and 4-0 on Feb. 24 with both games coming in Raleigh. They’re a good bet to complete the regular-season sweep of Ottawa and keep steaming toward a 2nd consecutive Metropolitan Division title.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-110) is the lean, but go lightly with a half-unit play at most.

The Under has dominated for the Hurricanes lately, going 6-1 in the past 7 games overall and 4-1 in the past 5 road games.

However, the Over is 6-2-1 in the past 9 games overall for the Senators, while going 12-3-1 in the past 16 games at home. Look for Carolina to get well in Canada’s capital city, with a high-scoring win and 2 valuable points.

Ottawa Senators at Florida Panthers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Ottawa Senators at Florida Panthers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Ottawa Senators (37-34-7) take on the Florida Panthers (40-31-7) in a clash with playoff implications Thursday at FLA Live Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Senators vs. Panthers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Despite dropping 3 games in a row, Ottawa remains alive for a Wild Card berth. It’s unlikely as the Sens are 6 points behind the Panthers and New York Islanders for a spot. The Senators are 4-3-3 over the last 10 games. One of those was a 5-2 win over the Panthers in Ottawa.

Florida has won 4 in a row and currently holds a tiebreaker over the Islanders for the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 Wild Card. The Panthers and Isles are being pushed by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who sit 1 point back. This is an important game, and it’s one Senators LW Brady Tkachuk would love to hold over his brother LW Matthew Tkachuk of the Panthers.

Senators at Panthers projected goalies

Cam Talbot (16-14-2, 2.89 GAA, .900 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Alex Lyon (7-3-1, 3.04 GAA, .908 SV%, 1 SO)

Talbot took an ugly 4-3 OT loss at the Columbus Blue Jackets Sunday in his last start. He finished with 18 saves against 22 shots vs. Columbus after going 3-0-0 with a 2.98 GAA and .859 SV% in March.

The 30-year-old journeyman Lyon has won 4 starts in a row. He stopped 116 of 121 shots for a .959 SV% during the streak. This is the most extensive action Lyon has had in his career as this start will eclipse his previous high of 12 games played in his rookie season of 2017-18.

Senators at Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 5, Senators 4

Moneyline

This is a must-win for the Panthers, and it’s hard to see them dropping it on home ice. It’s just as difficult to justify taking a -250 ML on them.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

Both games between the teams this season have been decided by at least 2 goals, but I’m not confident enough in either team to distance themselves.

Instead, take a look at Florida C CARTER VERHAEGHE OVER 3.5 SHOTS ON GOAL (-145). He took 5 shots Tuesday and 8 Saturday — the Panthers’ last 2 games. He had 4 shots in the last game against Ottawa (March 27).

Over/Under

Both games between the teams this season have been like hanging out at the shooting range in one of those carts that picks up the golf balls — shots just clanking off iron right and left. Ottawa won 5-2 at home in the late March contest, while Florida claimed a 5-3 victory on its home ice in late October.

The Over is 6-2-1 in the last 9 head-to-head meetings, including a push of O/U 7 in the last meeting. I’m not a fan of backing Overs of 6.5 or more — especially this late in the season. However, with the trends being where they are, and a couple of dicey goalie situations, I’ll LEAN OVER 7 (+105).
