Ryan Gosling’s awards history at the Oscars

Has Ryan Gosling ever won an Academy Award?

Ryan Gosling has been one of the most consistent movie stars of his generation, as any project he joins has a good chance of being a quality hit.

The Blade Runner 2049 and La La Land star has starred in some of the most beloved films of the last 20 years, but he’s yet to take home an Academy Award despite being nominated a handful of times.

Gosling has been nominated for Best Actor twice, once for 2006’s Half Nelson and once for 2016’s La La Land.

He earned his third nomination in January in Best Supporting Actor for last summer’s blockbuster hit Barbie, where he played Ken. If he wins, it’d be his first Oscar victory in his career.

However, even if he walks away without an Academy Award, he’ll have plenty of love coming his way on Oscar night next month as he’s reportedly set to perform Barbie‘s nominated power ballad “I’m Just Ken” during the ceremony.

Christopher Nolan’s awards history at the Oscars

Has Christopher Nolan ever won an Academy Award?

Christopher Nolan is one of the most accomplished filmmakers of his generation, but has he ever won an Oscar?

The Oppenheimer director has been nominated eight times for the Academy Awards, going all the way back to the 2002 ceremony where he was recognized with a Best Original Screenplay nomination for Memento.

However, he’s never won outright despite also being nominated for Inception (Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay) and Dunkirk (Best Picture, Best Director).

This year, Nolan got three nominations for Best Picture as one of Oppenheimer‘s producers, its director and its screenwriter in the adapted category.

It’s very possible Nolan could sweep all three of his nominations this year and win his first three Oscars in one night. Until then, he’s still searching for his first win at the Academy Awards.

Robert Downey Jr.’s awards history at the Oscars

Has Robert Downey Jr. ever won an Academy Award?

As we get closer to the 96th Academy Awards, it’s worth looking at this year’s nominees and how they’ve fared at previous ceremonies.

Veteran actor Robert Downey Jr. has been working in show business for four decades now, spanning from the 1980s teen dramas to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and last summer’s blockbuster epic Oppenheimer.

Has Downey Jr. ever won an Oscar in his prolific career? Not yet, but it might not be long until he wins his first. He’s now been nominated three times, his first nomination coming in 1993.

Downey Jr. was nominated for Best Actor that year for his portrayal of silent film legend Charlie Chaplin in Richard Attenborough’s biopic Chaplin, but he lost to Al Pacino and his performance in Scent of a Woman.

He’s wait until the 2009 Oscars for his next nomination for the Hollywood satire Tropic Thunder, where his performance of the imbecilic fictional character actor Kirk Lazarus earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination.

However, the late, great Heath Ledger won that year posthumously in the category for playing the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.

Downey Jr. now looks poised to win his first Oscar for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in Nolan’s Oppenheimer in this year’s Best Supporting Actor category.

Downey Jr. has already won the SAG Award, the BAFTA, the Critics’ Choice Award and the Golden Globe in those supporting actor categories this awards season. An Oscar looks to be in short order.

Great question! Here’s the answer: the Oscars will be on at 7 p.m. ET. And if you’re wondering, yes — that’s earlier than usual.

Which leads you to another question: why is it on earlier?

Will Taylor Swift be at this year’s Oscars?

Will Taylor Swift show up to this year’s Academy Awards?

Music icon Taylor Swift attending to various major cultural events has been one of the biggest stories of 2024, from the Super Bowl to the Grammys and Golden Globes.

However, will she be showing up to this year’s 96th Academy Awards?

With her Eras Tour playing a Saturday show in Singapore, it’s not likely that she’ll be able to attend this year’s Oscars in Hollywood even if she was invited just based on logistics alone.

Her 2023 concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was not nominated for any Oscars this year, but she has a standing invitation to attend the ceremony if she so wishes.

However, it’s possible she’ll be invited to the Academy Awards as a nominee one day, as she’s set to make her directorial debut at Searchlight.

Academy Awards: How much time do winners get for an Oscar speech?

Here’s how long winners get before the band starts to play

Along with opulent red carpet dresses, meme-worthy crowd shots and forced smiles from the nominees who don’t win, nothing says “Hollywood’s biggest night” quite like seeing an honoree get played off stage during a victory speech.

Yes, the Academy Awards are famous for striking up the orchestra if a speech starts to go a tad long. So how much time do winners get on stage before the band begins to play?

There’s actually a very strict limit: 45 seconds.

That’s been the time allotted for victory speeches ever since Greer Garson gave an infamous six-minute address after winning Best Actress in 1942 for Mrs. Miniver.

And it’s a speech that long that really makes you grateful for the likes of Patty Duke, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1962, went on stage to the collect the trophy and gave a quick “thank you” into the microphone before returning to her seat.

A true Academy Awards hero.

Tom Hanks’ awards history at the Oscars

Let’s look back at Tom Hanks’ history at the Oscars.

Tom Hanks is one of the most beloved people in the world, a true legend of the silver screen that has appeared in so many classic films.

From playing Forrest Gump and Mr. Rogers to voicing Woody in Toy Story, Hanks has spent decades entertaining audiences with his singular performances.

Hanks has won two Academy Awards in his career, but for what movies and when? How many times has he been nominated?

He received his first nomination in Best Actor for Big (1989) before winning in back-to-back years in 1994 and 1995 for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, respectively. That stretch made him one of the biggest movie stars on the planet.

He landed his fourth nomination in 1999 for Saving Private Ryan and his fifth in 2001 for Cast Away.

Despite a sterling list of performances after that, Hanks waited nearly two decades until his next nomination came in 2020 for playing Fred Rogers in the biopic, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

Hanks could earn his seventh nomination in 2025, as he’ll reunite with director Robert Zemeckis in the new film Here later in 2024.
