Breaking: 4-star S Tyler Turner commits to Oregon Ducks over Oklahoma Sooners

Big-time get for the Ducks, who add 4-star S Tyler Turner to an impressive 2023 recruiting class.

The Oregon Ducks added another important piece to their 2023 recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon, picking up a commitment from 4-star safety Tyler Turner, from Brennan, Texas.

Turner, who stands at 6-foot-0, 180 pounds, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 33 S and No. 337 player in the 2023 class.

Earlier this spring, Turner announced that he had trimmed his list of schools down to two, including the Ducks and the Oklahoma Sooners. After taking an official visit to Oregon last weekend, Turner announced on Tuesday night that he would be making his commitment on Wednesday.

Turner choosing the Ducks didn’t come as a massive surprise, since a Crystal Ball Prediction from 247Sports forecasted the decision over the weekend.

The 2023 class is starting to take shape for Oregon, and they’re doing a great job of bolstering the secondary with their recent additions. While 4-star CB Cole Martin kicked things off as the first commitment in the class, the Ducks have also added 4-star S Kodi DeCambra this spring as well.

4-star Oregon commit Cole Martin to take unofficial visit to Louisville

4-star CB Cole Martin, Oregon’s first member of the 2023 class and the son of Duck’s coach Demetrice Martin, will visit Louisville this weekend.

It’s all fun and games when high school prospects who are committed to other schools start taking visits to Eugene to check out the Ducks, but when an Oregon commit announces he is going on a recruiting visit to another school, feelings start to change.

That’s the case for four-star cornerback Cole Martin, who was the first member of the 2023 recruiting class for the Ducks. Martin, who is the son of Oregon defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin, announced on Tuesday he planned to take an unofficial visit to the Louisville Cardinals this weekend.

Martin is ranked as the No. 10 CB and No. 74 player in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports.

Committed recruits taking additional visits have been a recent topic of conversation for the Ducks, but it’s usually the other way around. Earlier this spring, four-star wide receiver Ashton Cozart, an Oklahoma commit, visited Oregon and decommitted from the Sooners shortly after, flipping to the Ducks. This coming week, Oregon will host four-star defensive lineman Johnny Bowens, who is a member of the Texas A&M 2023 class.

The fact Martin is taking a visit to Louisville may mean nothing. He is the son of an Oregon coach and from the looks and sounds of it, loves the Ducks and is excited to play in Eugene. It is something to keep an eye on, though.

Ducks become heavy favorite to land commitment from No. 2 ranked player in Washington

After landing Washington’s No. 1 player — Josh Conerly — in 2022, Oregon is now predicted to land the No. 2 player in Washington in 2023.

The Oregon Ducks have done incredibly well when it comes to the recruitment of four-star cornerback Caleb Presley, and it appears those efforts could end up paying off before long.

Presley, who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 9 CB and No. 78 player in the 2023 class, was high school teammates with five-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly, who arrived on campus to start his Oregon career with the Ducks this last week. Presley is also ranked as the No. 2 player in the state of Washington.

After taking a visit to Eugene last weekend, the recruiting forecast for Presley has been active for the blue-chip defensive back. According to 247Sports’ crystal ball predictions, the Ducks are the heavy favorites to land the Washington CB. Three new predictions came from Steve Wiltfong, Brandon Huffman and Greg Biggins.

If those names ring a bell, they should — that trio is among the most plugged-in throughout the world of recruiting, and all feel confident Presley will choose the Ducks.

So after grabbing a commitment from the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Washington in 2022, will the Ducks be able to get the No. 2 player in 2023? To make things even sweeter, Oregon is also in a good spot to land four-star defensive end Jayden Wayne, the No. 1 player in Washington for this class as well.

That may be getting too far ahead of ourselves, though. We don’t yet know when Presley will make his final commitment, but at this point, it seems like the Ducks are in a great spot.

No. 1 ranked player in state of Oregon drops Ducks from list of final schools

4-star TE Riley Williams — the No. 1 player in Oregon — recently dropped the Ducks from his recruitment and canceled his official visit to Oregon.

In what was likely a surprising or downright shocking announcement for fans of the Oregon Ducks, Riley Williams, the No. 1 player in the state of Oregon, dropped his home-state team from his recruiting finalists on Tuesday.

Williams, who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 tight end in the nation and No. 66 player overall in the 2023 class, cut his list of finalists to three. Alabama, Miami and Ohio State made the cut. Less than two weeks ago, Williams announced a top four, with the Ducks as the fourth team.

Even stranger, Williams was scheduled to take his official visit to Oregon this week, but he will not do so. It’s unclear what changed over the past couple of days. but it’s safe to say fans have a right to feel disappointed the Ducks will not be able to keep the No. 1 player in the state home.

4-star Ducks target Tyler Turner sets date for commitment between Oregon and Oklahoma

Coming off of his OV to Oregon, 4-star S Tyler Turner is set to announce his commitment. The Ducks are the favorites over Oklahoma.

A major potential piece of the Oregon Ducks 2023 recruiting class will be making his final announcement soon.

On Tuesday night, 4-star safety Tyler Turner announced that he will be making his final commitment on Wednesday evening, choosing between Oregon and the Oklahoma Sooners.

Turner is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 33 S and No. 337 overall player in the 2023 class. Coming off of a visit to Eugene last weekend, several recruiting analysts have put in Crystal Ball Predictions at 247Sports for Turner to end up committing to the Ducks.

So will he ultimately choose Oregon over the Sooners? We will have to tune in on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in order to find out.

Son of Oregon legend schedules official visit to see Ducks

You know you’re getting old when your favorite childhood players have kids starting to come to Eugene on recruiting visits.

You know you’re getting old when the son of one of your favorite childhood players starts coming to Eugene on recruiting visits.

For Oregon fans who watched the Ducks a couple of decades ago, that is now the case. Onterrio Smith Jr, obviously the son of Oregon legend Onterrio Smith, announced this week that he will be coming to Eugene over the weekend for an official visit.

Smith Jr. is a 3-star athlete from Folsom, California, ranked by 247Sports as the No. 100 ATH in the 2023 class.

Onterrio Smith Sr. played for the Ducks in 2001 and 2002, rushing for 2,199 yards and 19 touchdowns. He ranks No. 16 on Oregon’s all-time career rushing list.

His son doesn’t yet hold an offer from the Ducks, but might that change after the visit this weekend? We’ll have to wait and see.

Updated visitor list for Oregon Ducks’ second massive recruiting weekend in Eugene

No time to rest on the recruiting trail for the Ducks. Oregon is set to host another star-studded group of prospects this weekend.

The Oregon Ducks are coming off of one of the biggest recruiting weekends that they’ve had in years, and there’s no time to rest — another big one is on the calendars.

While last weekend saw 5-star players like DL David Hicks and WR Johntay Cook II in Eugene spending time with Dan Lanning and the Oregon coaching staff, there is another guest list full of highly-rated recruits on the menu. Guys like Matayo Uiagalelei, Richard Young, and Jayden Wayne are all scheduled to make return trips to Eugene, while a number of other 4-star players will be coming to see the facilities as well.

Though it is still a star-studded guest list, the Ducks were actually scheduled to host even more talent over the coming days than will actually be in attendance. Last week, 5-star OT Kadyn Proctor — who was scheduled to be in Eugene on June 24 — announced that he was cutting his recruitment down to just the Alabama Crimson Tide and Iowa Hawkeyes, and canceling his remaining official visits. 5-star ATH Samuel M’Pemba also announced that he would be pushing his visit to Oregon back as well.

Despite that, it’s still going to be a big weekend for the Ducks, and the visitor list will undoubtedly grow over the coming days. Here’s who is scheduled to visit at the moment:

Ducks extend an offer to 2026 quarterback Conner Quintero

Not often you see a 2026 offer this early on, but Oregon gave one to 2026 QB Conner Quintero over the weekend.

Nothing quite makes you feel as old as realizing that your favorite school just offered a quarterback who was born after the year 2005.

For fans of the Oregon Ducks, though, that’s the case right now. Over the weekend, the Ducks extended an offer to 2026 QB Conner Quintero, a high school Freshman from Enid, Oklahoma.

Since it is so early in his football career, Quintero doesn’t have any rankings on recruiting sites but based on the fact that the Ducks offered him, you can assume/hope that he will eventually garner a 4- or 5-star rating in the next couple of years.

5-star OT Kadyn Proctor cancels visit to Oregon, cuts Ducks out of top schools

Tough break for the Ducks. 5-star OT Kadyn Proctor canceled his OV to Oregon and took the Ducks out of his final schools.

The Oregon Ducks received unfortunate news on Friday afternoon. Five-star offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor announced he had narrowed his recruitment to two schools and canceled the rest of his visits.

Proctor, the No. 1 ranked OT in the 2023 class, was scheduled to visit Eugene later this month, and was set to be one of the marquee visitors on campus. Instead, Proctor announced he will focus on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Alabama Crimson Tide.

After landing five-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly at the end of the 2022 recruiting cycle, there was a hope Oregon could keep the momentum rolling with Proctor, but that no longer appears to be the case.

‘Grossly under-rated;’ 4-star Oregon commit Jurrion Dickey makes case as No. 1 WR in 2023 class

Recruiting analysts are starting to see Jurrion Dickey as in the running for the No. 1 ranked WR in the 2023 class.

If you’re a fan of the Oregon Ducks and someone who is in touch with the recruiting side of things, then the past few weeks have been pretty encouraging.

There’s a certain player in the Ducks’ 2023 recruiting class who has turned heads in the last month and is quickly rising up many analysts’ rankings as one of the best players in the class.

[lawrence-related id=25202]

We’re talking about Jurrion Dickey, a 4-star WR out of Northern California. At the moment, Dickey is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 10 WR and No. 59 player overall in the 2023 class. However, his performance this spring — mainly at the OT7 camp in Las Vegas last week — has made a case for him to rise up those rankings and potentially earn a fifth-star before all is said and done.

According to 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Greg Biggins, Dickey has made a case to be named the No. 1 WR in the class. Here’s what he had to say about the Oregon commit:

We knew East Palo Alto (Calif.) Valley Christian wide out Jurrion Dickey was a very talented athlete but after seeing him last weekend at the Overtime OT7 event in Las Vegas, he deserves to be in the discussion for top receiver prospect in the country.

When you’re rated the No. 88 player nationally in the 247Sports Composite and No. 59 in the Top247, it’s not exactly like you’re being ‘slept on,’ but the reality is, Dickey looks grossly under-rated outside the national top 40.

He’s rated the No. 10 receiver in the country but there may not be another receiver in this class that has his combination of size, length, burst, hands, body control, toughness, and compete level. There really isn’t a weakness in his game no matter how hard you try and nitpick for one.

Of course, we also have an incredibly strong class of receivers in 2023, with Zachariah Branch, Carnell Tate, and Brandon Innis leading the rankings. However, if you were to compare Dickey with any one of those players, Biggins says that he stands up well and can compete with any of them.

Just for the fun of it, if you’re comparing Dickey with those three, he probably has the best all around size/skill set in the group. He’s not as fast as Branch but is five inches taller, 40 pounds heavier and more of a natural pass catcher.

He’s a bigger, better athlete than Innis and looks more explosive than Tate. He’s not just a camp or 7v7 guy either and dominated with the pads on last season, catching 78 balls for 1,300 yards and 19 touchdowns and picked off four passes while playing safety as well.

It’s already impressive that the Ducks got the No. 10 WR in the class to commit to them, but if he starts climbing up those rankings and ultimately becomes a 5-star player before all is said and done, there’s a good chance that Dickey is among the most coveted recruits that Oregon has had in a long time.
