4-star Oregon WR target Ja’Kobi Lane announces commitment

The Ducks were originally an overwhelming favorite to land 4-star WR Ja’Kobi Lane. He announced his commitment decision on Friday.

In a bit of a shocking development, 4-star WR Ja’Kobi Lane announced on Friday that he would be committing to the USC Trojans, choosing to go to Los Angeles rather than coming up to Eugene and joining the Oregon Ducks, which was said to be his “dream school.”

After earning a scholarship offer from Oregon earlier this summer, Lane quickly picked up Crystal Ball predictions from 247Sports to choose the Ducks. Instead, he bucked that trend by going to USC with Lincoln Riley, Caleb Williams, and 2023 5-star QB Malachi Nelson.

In Eugene, Lane would have joined 5-star QB Dante Moore and 5-star WR Jurrion Dickey.

Oregon’s 5-star WR Jurrion Dickey receives favorable NFL player comparison

Oregon’s 5-star WR Jurrion Dickey receives favorable NFL player comparison

When you look at the Oregon Ducks’ 2023 recruiting class, most people will notice 5-star quarterback Dante Moore and see him as the biggest win of the cycle. While there is a lot of truth to that, I look at 5-star wide receiver Jurrion Dickey as the crowning achievement for Dan Lanning and the Ducks.

While having a 5-star QB is of the utmost importance, it isn’t a new thing for Oregon to have a potential star under center. When you look at the school’s history at the WR position, though, there are fewer standout players to have come through Eugene.

Dickey is just the second 5-star WR to ever commit to the Ducks, alongside Cameron Colvin back in 2004. With that type of talent, Dickey has been drawing some impressive comparisons, including this one from On3 sports in the last week:

“Jurrion Dickey is a productive, physical, athletic receiver with a well-rounded skill set,” On3 wrote. “He’s a multi-level threat including after the catch, similar to A.J. Brown. Dickey is a bit taller than Brown at the same stage.”

Dickey is ranked as the No. 2 WR in the nation and No. 16 overall player in the 2023 class, according to On3, and should he eventually sign with the Ducks, a big career alongside Moore is ahead of him.

4-star Oregon DL target Caleb Bryant decommits from Utah Utes

The Ducks picked up a prediction to land 4-star DL Caleb Bryant after his decommitment from Utah over the weekend.

In a matter of days, the Oregon Ducks might cause some havoc in the Pac-12’s recruiting world. After they news they might be in line to land a commitment from safety R.J. Jones, who recently decommitted from the California Golden Bears, the Ducks are picking up a prediction to land four-star defensive lineman Caleb Bryant on the same day he announced his decommitment from the Utah Utes.

Bryant, who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 60 DL and No. 607 player in the 2023 class, was offered by the Ducks in early August. On Saturday, he announced he would reopen his recruitment once again.

Does that mean that he has eyes for Eugene? One writer at Rivals went as far as to say so:

4-star Oregon OL target sets commitment date, lists Ducks in final two

The Ducks are in need of some offensive line help in the 2023 recruiting cycle, and this blue-chip 4-star would certainly be a big get.

One of the glaring holes in Oregon’s 2023 recruiting class rests on the offensive line. While the Ducks have missed out on some of their top targets at that position earlier in the recruiting cycle, there are still some high-quality players on the board that they might be able to add to an already impressive haul.

Logan Reichert, a 4-star player from Kansas City, Missouri, announced this past week that he has set a date for his commitment. The 6-foot-7, 345-pound offensive tackle is set to announce his decision on September 8.

Ranked as the No. 29 OT and No. 328 overall player in the 2023 class, Reichert would be a great addition to the Ducks as the first offensive lineman in the cycle. He currently holds three predictions to choose the Missouri Tigers, one from On3 and a pair from 247Sports.

Blue-chip safety decommitting from Golden Bears could boost Ducks

4-star safety R.J. Jones has opened up his recruitment. Might that give Oregon a chance to swoop in?

The Oregon Ducks could be in line to land a new recruit that is fresh on the block.

Four-star safety R.J. Jones recently decommitted from the California Golden Bears and opened his recruitment. The Ducks were reportedly recruiting him before he made his commitment. And according to On3, Oregon has the second-highest percent chance to land Jones, who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 30 safety and No. 333 overall player in the 2023 class. USC is judged to have the highest chance to land Jones.

Jones plays at St. John Bosco, where he is teammates with Kodi DeCambra, who committed to the Ducks earlier this summer. Could that lead to the Ducks potentially getting a blue-chip prospect to reconsider his future? Time will tell.

3-star Oregon EDGE target Jaeden Moore announces commitment

Jaeden Moore, a 3-star EDGE out of Visalia, California announced his commitment on Wednesday.

The Oregon Ducks’ defensive line just got better in the 2023 recruiting class.

On Wednesday afternoon, 3-star EDGE Jaeden Moore announced that he would be committing to the Ducks, giving them another member on the defensive line. So far, Oregon already has commitments from Terrance Green, My’keil Gardener, Tevita Pome’e, and Teitum Tuioti.

Moore is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 39 EDGE and No. 620 player overall in the 2023 class. He chose the Ducks over the Arizona Wildcats, California Golden Bears, and Washington Huskies.

Standing at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, Moore projects as a good-sized DE who will grow into Oregon’s system and offer a strong setting of the edge around the outside.

LeBron James makes clarifying statement on college recruitment of son Bronny

After a prediction came out for the Oregon Ducks to land 4-star Bronny James, LeBron James Sr. took to Twitter to set the record straight.

The past few days in the world of college basketball recruiting have been a whirlwind for the Oregon Ducks.

Dana Altman landed five-star small forward Mookie Cook, the No. 4 player in the 2023 class on Friday. Then news came out that four-star shooting guard Bronny James, the son of legendary NBA player LeBron James, was being recruited by the Ducks.

On top of that, an expert prediction came out on Tuesday that suggested that Oregon is the team to beat to get a commitment from James, who ranks as the No. 47 player in the 2023 class.

On Tuesday night, LeBron James took to Twitter to offer a clarifying statement on all of the action involving his son taking place.

LeBron’s words didn’t contradict the report that Oregon is the team to beat for Bronny, but it encouraged some patience if nothing else.

“He hasn’t taken 1 visit yet and has only had a few calls with coaches and universities.”

When Bronny does start taking visits, you can guarantee it’s going to be newsworthy. There’s also a good chance that one of his visits is to Eugene to check out the Oregon Ducks and Nike University.

3-star Oregon OL target Alani Noa announces commitment

3-star Oregon OL target Alani Noa announces commitment

Though Dan Lanning and the new staff for the Oregon Ducks have done a good job of bringing in some of the top talent in the nation over the past 9 months since taking over in Eugene, there’s one glaring weak spot in the 2023 recruiting class — the offensive line.

Oregon is yet to land an OL in 2023, and they unfortunately missed out on one of their prospects on Tuesday. 3-star OL Alani Noa, a 6-foot-4 player who weighs in a 320 pounds, announced his commitment to the USC Trojans, picking them over the Ducks. Noa ranks as the No. 57 IOL and No. 779 overall player in the 2023 class.

Missing out on Noa certainly won’t tank the Ducks’ recruiting class, it is fair to start feeling concern growing over the lack of offensive linemen. While Oregon has a deep roster at the moment in the position, it’s always good to be continually bringing in more to replenish the depth. We will see how the coming months go, and if Adrian Klemm and Lanning can land some solid blockers.

Report: ‘Mutual interest’ exists between Oregon Ducks and Bronny James in recruiting efforts

According to a new report from On3, the Ducks are in fact recruiting Bronny James, and there is mutual interest from both parties.

The incredibly tantalizing news that LeBron ‘Bronny’ James Jr. was being recruited by the Oregon Ducks was reported last week, and it came on the heels of Oregon landing 5-star SF Mookie Cook, a player who has a connection with the NBA legend.

So for an incredibly famous high schooler who has been incredibly silent on the recruiting front, how much should we read into the report that Dana Altman and the Ducks are after him? Luckily, there are well-connected reporters who dug into the situation to find out what they could. Over at On3, they reached out to sources and people in the industry to find out what is actually going on with the eldest James son, who ranks as the No. 43 player in the 2023 class. Here’s what they had to say about Oregon:

LeBron James signed a lifetime deal with Nike toward the end of 2015. Oregon is Nike’s flagship program. Nike co-founder and chairman Phil Knight attended school in Eugene and remained very close to the program. James and Nike are reportedly business partners in other ventures as well.

Intel: Sources tell On3 that Oregon is actively recruiting James. The two parties have been in contact, and there is an active mutual interest.

Of the four other schools that were mentioned to be recruiting James — Ohio State, Michigan, USC, and UCLA — On3 is reporting that only Ohio State and USC are really recruiting James.

3-star Oregon target LB Jerry Mixon announces commitment

3-star LB Jerry Mixon announced his commitment on Friday.

The Oregon Ducks added another player to the 2023 class on Friday, getting a commitment from 3-star linebacker Jerry Mixon, out of San Francisco, Calif.

Mixon, who stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 220 pounds, is ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 57 linebacker and No. 717 overall player in the 2023 class. Mixon is the first linebacker to be added to the class, after adding both Devon Jackson and Harrison Taggart in 2022.

With Mixon, the Ducks now rank 15th in the national recruiting rankings, and second in the Pac-12 behind USC. With the start of the 2022 season on the horizon, we can expect a few more high school athletes to make their commitments before the season starts.
