4-star QB Austin Novosad continues to impress at Day 2 of All-American Bowl practice

Oregon QB Austin Novosad had another strong day at All-American Bowl practice in San Antonio on Wednesday.

As we continue to go through the All-American week in the world of high school recruiting, the focus for Oregon Duck fans is starting to hone in on 4-star QB signee Austin Novosad.

While the weekend and early days of the week were focused on the Under Armour All-American game, where guys like 4-star WR Ashton Cozart and 4-star DL Ashton Porter turned heads, the start of practice at the All-American Bowl down in San Antonio as seen a new group of Ducks take the stage. Most notably, Oregon’s newest quarterback has started to make some waves.

4-star QB Austin Novosad is turning heads down in Texas. The former Baylor commit who flipped to the Ducks on signing day was named the No. 1 passer in the group on Tuesday, and he continued with another strong day on Wednesday, being named the No. 2 passer in the group, behind only 5-star UCLA signee Dante Moore.

Take a look at some of his highlights from the day:

The best of both worlds: 5-star Nyckoles Harbor discusses interest in Oregon

5-star Nyckoles Harbor wants to play football and run track in college. It’s hard to be better than Oregon is in those two areas combined.

Five-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor has been the talk of the college football recruiting world the past couple of weeks. He is one of the few remaining  highly ranked players in the 2023 class who is unsigned ahead of signing day on Feb. 1.

Harbor recently made waves in Oregon by announcing he planned to come to Eugene on an official visit at the end of the month, the last weekend before signing day. This past week at the Under Armour NEXT All-American Game, Harbor talked about how his recruitment is narrowing, according to On3.

“I don’t really have a final list, but I guess you can put Maryland, South Carolina, USC, Oregon and Michigan,” Harbor said. “The main three factors going into the decision are academics, athletics and track. That’s it.”

While the Ducks entered the race late, and may not be seen as the leader in the clubhouse to land Harbor, the world-renowned track program at Oregon is sure to tip the scales a little bit. Harbor also has been impressed by what Dan Lanning is doing on the recruiting trail with the Ducks.

“You see what he did during the early signing period. He was flip-flopping everybody,” Harbor said. “I feel like they also have the best of both worlds in terms of football and track.”

Leading up to Harbor’s visit, it will be interesting to see how the situation play out, particularly when it comes to Michigan and Jim Harbaugh. The Wolverines are arguably the leaders to land Harbor, but if the head coach leaves, that may change things.

Oregon QB Austin Novosad turns heads; 4-star DL Ashton Porter sees stock rise

Oregon QB Austin Novosad was ranked ahead of Dante Moore at All-American Bowl practice, and Ashton Porter saw a big stock rise in the UA All-American game.

The first week of the new year has given us a great chance to get a closer look at some of the top recruits in the 2023 cycle, and for fans of the Oregon Ducks, that means that a lot of news is coming in about the new class coming to Eugene this spring.

Among the most notable players drawing buzz this week is Oregon’s 4-star QB Austin Novosad. After flipping from Baylor to the Ducks on signing day in December, Novosad comes to Eugene with hopes of being the QB of the future for the Ducks. Novosad suited up for practice at the All-American Bowl on Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas, and he was able to turn a lot of heads, being ranked as the No. 1 QB on site, according to On3.

Elsewhere, Oregon’s newest defensive lineman Ashton Porter — who announced his commitment to the Ducks at halftime of the Under Armour All-American Game on Tuesday — saw his stock rise a lot as he gets set to head off to college.

Here is a roundup of everything that media members are saying about Duck commits after Tuesday:

Oregon lands commitment from 4-star DL Ashton Porter

The Ducks scored a nice win on the recruiting trail, landing 4-star DL Ashton Porter out of Texas.

The Oregon Ducks became the talk of the college football world during the Early Signing Period in December after they made waves in the recruiting world, and it looks like they are building on that success moving forward, adding a commitment from 4-star DL Ashton Porter.

Porter announced his commitment to the Ducks at halftime of the Under Armour NEXT All-American Game on Tuesday afternoon. After a successful visit to Eugene in early December, Porter was heavily favored to commit to Oregon.

Porter stands at 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, and is rated by 247Sports as the No. 45 DL in the nation, and No. 325 overall player in the 2023 class.

With Oregon losing some key pieces on the defensive line this offseason, it’s important for the Ducks to rebuild up front and they are well on their way to doing that with the addition of Porter.

8 of Oregon’s highest-rated commits in 2023 will be playing on TV this week

Duck fans will get a couple of chances to see some of the best Oregon signees in the 2023 class play on national TV this week.

Over the past handful of months, Oregon Duck fans have become enthralled with the prospect of what their future roster could look like once they get to see the new class of recruits come to Eugene. They’ve watched the high school tape and read all of the interviews. Now they get a new chance to see what these players can do on a bigger stage.

It’s the first week in January, which means we get a pair of All-American games for high school prospects to showcase their skills.

The first game — Under Armour’s NEXT All-American Game — takes place on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. PT on ESPN. The second high school showcase — the All-American Bowl — will take place on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m. PT on NBC.

For the Ducks, there are dozens of players that you should keep an eye on in the games, many of whom either signed with Oregon or took a hard look at the Ducks down the stretch of their recruitment, and could potentially be names to look at down the road should then ever enter the transfer portal.

If you’re more interested in the guys that will for sure be coming to Eugene this next season, though, we’ve got you covered. Here are the nine Ducks who were scheduled to participate in the All-American games this week (one has scratched), and how you can watch them:

Most important players for Duck fans to watch at Under Armour All-American Game

Some of the top-ranked players in the 2023 class will play on ESPN Tuesday afternoon. Here’s who Oregon fans should keep an eye on.

We spent a good portion of December in the college football world focusing on where these players would sign their national letters of intent. Now we get a chance to watch what they can do on the field.

It’s time to see what all of the hype is about.

The Under Armour NEXT All-American Game takes place on Tuesday afternoon in Orlando, Florida, offering an opportunity for some of the best players in the 2023 recruiting class to participate in a showcase that will highlight their talents and further elevate their brands. The game will be broadcast on ESPN at 2 p.m. PT.

A handful of players who did not officially sign their NLI during the early signing period plan to announce their commitments during the game as well. Four-star defensive lineman Ashton Porter is one of them, and he is heavily favored to commit to the Oregon Ducks.

While there will be a handful of Oregon signees players on the field — Daylen Austin, Kodi DeCambra and Ashton Cozart headline the list — this will also give Duck fans a chance to see some of the top prospects in the nation. Many of them took a serious look at coming to Eugene before committing elsewhere. Whether you want to see the players Oregon missed on or do some preview work in case any of these players should end up in the transfer portal in the coming years, now is your chance.

Here is a list of the most important players for Duck fans to watch on Tuesday:

Top-10 2024 DL looks to lock down visit with Ducks, lists Oregon amongst top schools

4-star DL Hevin Brown-Shuler keeps Ducks among top schools, looks to schedule visit to Eugene.

With the early signing period now behind us, the 2024 recruiting cycle is really getting into motion, and we’ve seen a number of highly-rated prospects start to narrow down their recruitment as they enter the stretch run.

One of those players is 4-star defensive lineman Hevin Brown-Shuler, a 6-foot-5, 290-pounder from Atlanta Georgia. Brown-Shuler, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 10 DL in the class and No. 72 overall player in the nation, narrowed his recruitment down to 13 schools on New Year’s Day, including the Oregon Ducks alongside other teams like Georgia, USC, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and several others.

In an interview with On3’s Chad Simmons, Brown-Shuler says that he really wants to get out to Eugene on a visit in the coming months to get a closer look at the school and further develop his relationship with Dan Lanning and the staff.

“I’m really trying to get Oregon locked in right now because I’ve never been,” Brown-Shuler said. “‘I’ve always been a fan of Oregon. Oregon’s in Eugene, right by Nike. I really do want to see that. I know it’s pretty nice.”

In the coming months, we will see if this blue-chip DL can make his way out west and get a closer look at the Ducks.

5-star safety KJ Bolden shows love for the Oregon Ducks

5-star KJ Bolden, the No. 2 player in the 2024 class, has the Ducks among his top schools going into the new year.

Getting 5-star athletes into the fold is a thing that Oregon Duck fans are starting to get more and more used to as the recruiting prowess continues to rise in Eugene, and after signing a pair of 5-stars in December, it looks like Dan Lanning might be in the mix to get more down the road.

On New Year’s Day, 5-star safety KJ Bolden, the No. 2 ranked player in the 2024 class, narrowed down his recruitment to 15 schools, keeping the Ducks in the mix along with the big-time players like Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, USC, and many others.

Standing at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Bolden is one of the top-ranked athletes in the nation, and he is a talented track sprinter as well as a hard-hitting safety.

We will see over the coming months if he ends up getting out to Eugene for a visit or not, but he has emerged early on as one of the top targets for Lanning and the Ducks in the 2024 cycle.

4-star DL Ashton Porter to announce commitment soon; Ducks hold as massive favorites

The Ducks might be adding a 4-star DL to the 2023 class soon. Ashton Porter is set to announce his commitment this week.

While the Oregon Ducks made a lot of noise in the early signing period of the 2023 recruiting cycle, we knew that there was a chance the class could continue to improve over the coming weeks with a few prospects left to announce their commitment.

One of those prospects is 4-star defensive lineman Ashton Porter, a 6-foot-3, 255-pound tackle from Cy Ranch, Texas who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 39 DL in the nation and No. 329 overall player in the 2023 class.

Porter is set to announce his decision on Tuesday, January 3, at halftime of the Under Armour All-American game. He is down to a decision between the Oregon Ducks, Michigan State Spartans, Northwestern Wildcats, and Texas Longhorns. Oregon is the heavy favorite to land him at this point.

The UA All-American Game kicks off at 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday, so it’s likely that Porter’s announcement will come around 6 p.m. or so after the kick.

5-star SF Ace Bailey has Dana Altman’s Ducks among top schools

The Ducks landed in the top 12 for 5-star Ace Bailey, the No. 6 player in the 2024 class.

Recruiting has been a hot topic for Oregon Duck fans to follow over the past month or so, and Dana Altman wanted to get in on the action.

After signing a top-10 class this past fall, Altman is looking to get a nice start on the 2024 class, and New Year’s Day saw that be successful with 5-star SF Ace Bailey announcing his top 12 teams, keeping the Oregon Ducks in the mix.

Bailey, who stands at 6-foot-10, is rated as the No. 6 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 3 SF in the nation. He was offered by the Ducks earlier this year, but has yet to take a visit to Eugene.
