Trio of Oregon recruits named 2023 McDonald’s All-Americans

Oregon recruits Kwame Evans and Mookie Cook were named McDonald’s All-Americans along with Oregon’s Sofia Bell.

The 46th annual McDonald’s All-American Game will once again feature some of the very best high school basketball players in the country.

Oregon Ducks fans have plenty of reasons to tune in to both the men’s and women’s games, as a trio of Oregon recruits are set to participate in this year’s event.

On the men’s side it is clear Dana Altman’s work as a recruiter has paid off, with two members of Oregon’s 2023 class getting selected for the event in Kwame Evans and Mookie Cook.

Evans comes in at No. 11 overall in 247Sports 2023 class ranking, while Cook is only a few spots behind at No. 22. Jackson Shelstad, the third heralded member of Altman’s 2023 class, did not make the cut despite putting together a monster performance for West Linn at the Les Schwab Invitational this year.

Oregon may have a third member in the men’s game before too long, however, as Bronny James was the only non-committed player selected for the event. James is reportedly down to Oregon, Ohio State, and USC, and there is some belief that he will end up in Eugene next year.

On the women’s side Sofia Bell is the lone representative for Kelly Graves’ recruiting class. Bell is from nearby Jesuit High School and has a 95 grade on ESPN’s recruiting evaluation.

The event will take place on March 28, 2023, in Houston, Texas.

2025 Oregon WR Dallas Wilson to take first visit to Eugene this weekend

Oregon’s 2025 WR Dallas Wilson will be taking his first visit to Eugene this coming weekend.

The Oregon Ducks are expecting a number of 2023, 2024, and 2025 prospects in town for recruiting visits this coming weekend, and it will give one future Duck his first look at the facilities in Eugene.

2025 wide receiver Dallas Wilson committed to Oregon last week just hours after receiving an offer from the Ducks. He will now make his way to Eugene this weekend for his first visit with Oregon, giving the young WR a chance to meet Dan Lanning and the coaching staff.

“I’m looking forward to the family I’m going to be a part of and the excitement that comes with it,” Wilson told me.

Wilson is not yet rated by any recruiting sites, but he’s a fast-rising prospect with scholarship offers from the likes of Alabama, Miami, Penn State, Florida State, and West Virginia, among several others.

2024 EDGE to visit Oregon just days after decommitting from Washington Huskies

Not long after 2024 EDGE Jaxson Jones recommitted from Washington, he announced plans for a visit to see the Ducks.

One of the early members of the Washington Huskies’ 2024 recruiting class opened up his recruitment this week, and it appears the Oregon Ducks are trying to make a move.

On Monday, 3-star EDGE Jaxson Jones, the No. 19 EDGE in the 2024 class, per 247Sports, announced that he would be decommitting from the Huskies, where he had been a verbal since last September. Not long after announcing that his recruitment was back open, Jones then announced that he would be taking a visit to Eugene to see Dan Lanning and the Ducks this coming weekend.

A lot of big visitors are expected to be on Oregon’s campus this weekend, including 5-star ATH Nyckoles Harbor, and we can now add this former Husky commit to the list as well.

Oregon recruits react to big-time visitor weekend with Ducks in Eugene

There were a ton of high-profile recruits on campus for the Ducks this weekend, and a lot left raving about the visit.

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks’ coaching staff was busy over the past week.

While the week days were filled with flights across the country and a number of in-home visits with both 2023 and 2024 prospects, the weekend saw a huge flock of potential Ducks come to Eugene for Oregon’s unofficial Junior Day.

There is one week left before the final signing day of the 2023 cycle, and we could see Oregon add more players to the roster. Upwards of 20 high school prospects and a couple of transfer portal players were in Eugene. According to reactions on social media, it looks like things went well. Here are some of the top recruit reactions from the weekend.

Elite JUCO WR Marquis Montgomery places Oregon in top 5

Marquis Montgomery, the No. 3 JUCO WR in the 2023 class, has Oregon among his top schools.

The 2023 recruiting cycle is winding to a close, but the Oregon Ducks may be looking to add one more experienced player to the mix before all is said and done.

3-star JUCO wide receiver Marquis Montgomery recently announced his top 5 schools, with the Ducks in the mix alongside teams like Texas A&M, LSU, and Penn State.

Montgomery is rated by 247Sports as the No. 3 WR JUCO WR in the 2023 class, and No. 33 overall player.

The Ducks have done really well to bolster the WR position in the past couple of years through the recruiting cycle and transfer portal, but they might be able to land another big-bodied pass catcher if Montgomery chooses to pack his bags for Eugene.

Coach Prime and the Buffaloes offer one of Ducks’ marquee 2024 commits

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes extended an offer to one of Oregon’s marquee WR commits in the 2024 class.

When a high-profile recruit receives offers from other schools, it’s not usually something to give much attention to. Even after a player has committed to a school — such as Oregon’s four-star 2024 WR Jordan Anderson, for example— it’s not uncommon to see more offers come in the door despite a verbal commitment.

It usually doesn’t mean much. But when an offer comes from a school — and coach — notorious for flipping high-profile prospects, it’s worth noting.

So when Anderson, the No. 13 WR in the 2024 class, announced on Friday afternoon that he had been offered by Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes, a few Duck fans may have taken note.

Colorado has been on a tear on the recruiting trail and the transfer portal, notably flipping five-star cornerback Cormani McClain from Miami, four-star running back Dylan Edwards from Notre Dame and a number of transfers such as five-star athlete Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Does Coach Prime’s track record with high-profile recruits mean he is going to steal Anderson from the Ducks? Absolutely not. Is it something Oregon fans should keep an eye on over the next few months?

That seems like it would be smart.

Bronny James puts Oregon Ducks among top three schools

Bronny James, one of the highest-profile prospects we’ve ever seen, has narrowed his recruitment down to 3 schools. The Ducks are one of them.

The recruitment for arguably the highest-profile prospect in the 2023 basketball class is starting to heat up.

Bronny James, a four-star recruit who is rated as the No, 34 player in the nation per 247Sports, reportedly announced his top three schools on Friday morning, keeping the Oregon Ducks in the mix alongside USC and Ohio State.

While the Ducks have struggled at times this season, the future looks bright in Eugene, with a top-10 class in 2023 already signed. The class consists of five-star Mookie Cook, five-star Kwame Evans and four-star Jackson Shelstad. Evans was recently in the news for talking about the recruitment of James and trying to get him to join the squad in Eugene.

At the moment, the only recorded visit James has taken was to Ohio State with his dad, NBA legend LeBron James. We will see in the coming weeks and months if he ends up making a trip to Eugene, the home of Nike, where James recently signed a lucrative shoe deal, per reports.

Bronny James’ Recruiting Profile

2023 5-star Kwame Evans encouraging Bronny James to visit Oregon

Bronny James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, is being recruited to join Oregon’s electric 2023 recruiting class by 5-star Kwame Evans.

It’s hard to be any more in the spotlight as an unsigned high school basketball recruit than Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James.

Bronny plays at Sierra Canyon and is currently ranked No. 34 in the class of 2023 at 247Sports, but his recruitment has taken on a life of its own thanks to the celebrity status of his dad – who maintains his goal is to play with his son in the NBA.

James has kept his recruitment process close to the chest, although Oregon – thanks in part to their Nike connection – remain a school squarely in the running for the six-foot-three point guard’s services.

Should James choose to come to Oregon he would join an elite recruiting class that already features Kwame Evans, Mookie Cook, and Jackson Shelstad.

Evans in particular has made it clear he wants Bronny donning the green and yellow next year.

“[Bronny] told me he likes Oregon, and I want him to visit there,” Evans told Yahoo Sports. “Everyone that’s coming in is unselfish. We all cut, move and don’t hold the ball too long, so it’s going to benefit him. Bronny can be more of a playmaker and a shot creator, and I think we would play really well together.”

It’s easy to see the appeal of adding James to this class, even without factoring in the instant boost his arrival would give the program from a watchability perspective.

Dana Altman’s ability to recruit high level talent to Eugene is unmistakable, and adding James to a class as dynamic as the one coming in 2023 would put even more pressure on the Ducks to get back into the NCAA Tournament and make some serious noise in March.

2025 WR Dallas Wilson announces commitment to Oregon Ducks

Dallas Wilson, an unrated 2025 WR with offers from Alabama and Georgia, announced his commitment to the Ducks.

The Oregon Ducks got a commitment on Tuesday afternoon, landing 2025 wide receiver Dallas Wilson, an unrated player from Tampa Bay Tech High School.

Wilson is the first member of the 2025 class for the Ducks.

While he does not yet have a rating from 247Sports or On3, Wilson reportedly has offers from some notable schools, such as the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs. According to his Twitter, he received an offer from Oregon earlier in the day on Tuesday and announced his commitment a few hours later.

In today’s world of recruiting, it will be interesting to see if he sticks with the Ducks for the next two years before he ends up signing, but as of now, Oregon has their first WR in the 2025 class.

Recruiting Party: Long list of 2024 prospects scheduled to visit Oregon this weekend

A lot of 2024 prospects are going to be in Eugene for visits with the Ducks over the weekend.

While the 2023 recruiting cycle is close to coming to an end with the February 1 signing day, Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are working to look ahead to the 2024 class and do some heavy recruiting while also evaluating a handful of players.

This weekend, the Ducks are hosting a long list of both 2024 and 2025 prospects for their Junior Day. There is still a year left before a lot of these players will sign, but we may start to see some commitments trickle in over the next few months, with Oregon already holding the No. 7 class in the 2024 cycle. The Ducks have commitments from 4-star WR Jordan Anderson and Tyseer Denmark, as well as 4-star TE A.J. Pugliano, and 4-star OT Fox Crader.

Here’s a full list of the players that I have been able to confirm will be on campus in Eugene this weekend. I will continue to update it throughout the week as we get more player announcements.
