2024 EDGE Jaxson Jones commits to Oregon days after decommitting from Washington

Six days ago, Jaxson Jones decommitted from the Washington Huskies. On Sunday, he joined the Ducks.

Oregon Duck fans likely woke up with a reason to smile on Sunday morning. They once again had reason to feel some pride when it comes to the Oregon vs. Washington Huskies rivalry.

2024 3-star EDGE Jaxson Jones announced that he would be committing to the Ducks after his weekend visit to Eugene. This is notable because just six days ago, Jones announced his decommittment from the Huskies and scheduled a trip to Oregon.

It appears that visit went well, with Jones immediately committing to the Ducks thereafter.

According to 247Sports, Jones is rated as the No. 19 EDGE in the 2024 class, and the 247Sports Composite has him as the No. 611 overall player in the nation. He is now the fifth addition to Oregon’s 2024 class, which ranks No. 9 in the nation.

LOOK: 5-star Nyckoles Harbor gets good look at Eugene on official visit

From Hayward Field, to photo shoots, to hanging out in the student section at the Ducks game, 5-star Nyckoles Harbor has had an eventful visit thus far.

It appears that the Oregon Ducks are pulling out the stops when it comes to the official visit for 5-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor this weekend.

While Friday night was spent with the track and football star touring the Historic Hayward Field, Saturday was jam-packed with events spread across the city.

Not only was Harbor able to go through the photo shoot song and dance at Autzen Stadium, jointing other recruits on campus by mixing and matching with the best that Nike can provide, but Harbor later was in attendance at the Oregon men’s basketball game, a 68-56 win over Utah that saw the season’s largest crowd at Matthew Knight Arena. At the game, the Oregon football team was honored in the first half and threw t-shirts to the crowd.

The recruitment continued on Saturday night, with Harbor apparently spending some time with head coach Dan Lanning. Here are some of the best photos and videos of Harbor’s official visit thus far.

2024 QB Austin Mack announces commitment date; places Oregon in top 5

4-star Austin Mack, the No. 7 QB in the 2024 class, will make his commitment next week, with the Ducks in the mix.

The Oregon Ducks are staying active in the quarterback recruiting world, and it appears that one of the more notable prospects on the west coast in the 2024 class will be coming off of the board soon.

4-star QB Austin Mack, a 6-foot-6 passer from Folsom, California, announced on Friday that he will be making his commitment on February 1. Mack narrowed down his schools to five, including the Ducks in the mix with a group of other Pac-12 teams. At the moment, the Washington Huskies are strongly favored to land his commitment.

According to 247Sports, Mack is rated as the No. 7 QB and No. 53 overall player in the nation for the 2024 class. We will see next week where he chooses to start his college career, with the announcement coming at 1:45 PT.

Ducks extend offer to 2025 QB Akili Smith Jr., son of Oregon legend

On Friday, the Ducks offered 2025 QB Akili Smith Jr., the son of an Oregon legend.

One of Dan Lanning’s biggest points when taking over as the head coach of the Oregon Ducks was that he wanted to keep the family in Eugene tight and make sure that past alumni felt at home with the current regime.

He did a great job of making sure that happens this week, extending a scholarship offer to Akili Smith Jr., a 2025 quarterback out of California. The name obviously rings a bell; Smith Jr. is the son of Oregon legend Akili Smith, who was the starting QB in Eugene for the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Smith threw for 45 touchdowns in his two seasons.

As a 2025 prospect, Smith Jr. is not yet rated by a lot of recruiting websites, but he has some notable offers from other schools like Miami, Michigan, and Arizona. We will see how his recruitment goes along over the coming years.

UPDATE: 4-star CB Rodrick Pleasant no longer expected to take visit to Eugene

4-star cornerback Rodrick Pleasant is expected in Eugene for a visit this weekend, the last chance before signing day.

UPDATE: I have received new information that shows the Oregon Ducks are no longer expecting 4-star cornerback Rodrick Pleasant on a recruiting visit this coming weekend.

Earlier, I reported that Dan Lanning and the Ducks were expecting to get the high-profile target — ranked as the No. 6 CB in the 2023 class — on campus for the final weekend ahead of signing day. After that initial report, conflicting information came in and I can now report that Rodrick is not expected in Eugene, and will instead stay home in California.

Previous Report:

The weekend visitor list for the Oregon Ducks is starting to get more and more star-studded.

I can confirm that 4-star cornerback Rodrick Pleasant is expected to take a visit to Eugene this weekend to see the Ducks. On3’s Justin Hopkins had the report first.  Pleasant is among the biggest targets remaining for the Ducks, and it’s looking like a battle between Oregon and the USC Trojans down to the wire.

There is still a chance that Pleasant does not end up making the trip, as I’m told that the Trojans are working hard to keep him from visiting Eugene, but at the moment sources tell me that he is expected some time on Saturday.

Pleasant is rated by 247Sports as the No. 6 CB in the 2023 class and No. 80 overall player in the nation,

4-star LB Kolaj Cobbins puts Oregon in top 6 of recruitment

4-star LB Kolaj Cobbins announced his top 6 this week and the Ducks made the cut.

The 2024 recruiting cycle is starting to ramp up as the 2023 cycle comes to a close, and the Oregon Ducks have found themselves in a good position when it comes to being able to land a talented linebacker out of Louisiana.

4-star LB Kolaj Cobbins, a 6-foot-3, 200-pounder from down south, recently announced his top 6 schools and kept the Ducks in the mix along with others like LSU, Colorado, Michigan, and others.

Cobbins is rated as the No. 20 LB and No. 205 overall player in the nation per 247Sports.

There is not any record of Cobbins paying a visit to Oregon just yet, but if he is serious about the Ducks then we can expect to see him out in Eugene at some point over the coming year as he continues to narrow down his recruitment.

Top-5 LB Justin Williams schedules visit to Oregon this weekend

Justin Williams, the No. 4 LB in the 2024 class, is coming to Eugene this weekend. The 4-star is predicted to commit to Oregon.

The Oregon Ducks are adding another high-profile visitor to the weekend guest list, with 4-star linebacker Justin Williams announcing that he will be coming to Eugene in a few days.

Williams is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 4 LB in the 2024 class, and No. 54 overall player in the nation. Williams also holds a Crystal Ball Prediction from 247Sports’ writer Steve Wilftong to commit to Oregon.

Earlier in the year, Williams announced his top 6 schools and had the Ducks in the mix. He will be one of several top-rated recruits in town over the weekend, joining 5-star ATH Nyckoles Harbor and 5-star WR Dakorein Moore.

5-star WR Dakorien Moore to take visit to Oregon this weekend

5-star WR Dakorien Moore, the No. 1 WR in the 2025 class, will take a visit to see the Oregon Ducks this weekend.

It looks like the Oregon Ducks will have more than one 5-star recruit in Eugene over the weekend for a visit.

I am now able to confirm multiple reports that 2025 WR Dakorien Moore, a 5-star wide receiver from Duncanville, Texas, will be taking a visit to Eugene to see Dan Lanning and the staff. The first report came from 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong.

Moore will be one of the top prospects on campus, joining 2023 ATH Nyckoles Harbor as the other 5-star recruit on the list. Moore is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 1 WR in the 2025 class and No. 8 overall player in the nation.

Moore holds offers from some of the top schools in the nation, including Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, USC, and many others.

Was Oregon’s Jackson Shelstad snubbed from McDonald’s All-American Game?

The rosters for the McDonald’s All-American Game came out on Tuesday, and Oregon 4-star PG Jackson Shelstad was notably missing.

On Tuesday afternoon, the rosters for the McDonald’s All-American Game were released for 2023. Fans of the Oregon Ducks likely scanned the lists and were happy to see that both 5-star Mookie Cook and 5-star Kwame Evans made the list. They may have even been excited to see that 4-star Bronny James — a high profile recruit who has been strongly considering the Ducks — was in the mix as well.

However, it was a disappointment to see that 4-star Oregon point guard Jackson Shelstad was not on the list.

As the best player on the No. 1 ranked team in the nation — West Linn — it seems that Shelstad belongs, especially with the senior season he is having. Earlier this year, Shelstad led West Linn to the Les Schwab Invitational Championship, defeating No. 16 Sierra Canyon — and Bronny James — as well as Duncanville, the previous No. 1 ranked team in the nation.

So was Shelstad snubbed? Does he deserve to be in the All-American showcase this spring? Our guys at SBLive seem to think so:

All we can figure here is that nobody on the selection team watched the Les Schwab Invitational. The Oregon commit was the best player on the floor against Sierra Canyon and Duncanville, both of which will have representatives in the McDonald’s All-American Game in March.

While the best players in the nation will get a chance to showcase their talents on a national stage later this spring, Shelstad won’t get that opportunity, unfortunately. He’ll have to wait until next year in Eugene to show the world what he can really do.

Updated list of Oregon recruiting visitors on final weekend before signing day

Some important recruits are going to be visiting Eugene to see the Ducks this weekend.

We saw a lot of fireworks on December 21 when the Oregon Ducks made a splash in the college football recruiting world and signed one of the top classes in school history. Dan Lanning and Co. may not be done just yet, though, as they try to get a couple more additions before the February 1 final signing day of the 2023 cycle.

With that major date approaching next week, we can expect one final weekend of recruiting visits in Eugene where the coaching staff will work to put the finishing touches on some 2023 prospects, as well as continue their pursuit for 2024 and 2025 prospects as well.

The list of visitors in Eugene will be headlined by 5-star ATH Nyckoles Harbor, the No. 16 overall player in the 2023 class who is set to make his announcement on signing day. Harbor will be on an official visit, which will give the Ducks a great chance to take out all of the stops and try hard to get him to commit to Oregon.

Here are all of the prospects who we have confirmed will be in Eugene this weekend:
