Mater Dei WR Jack Ressler names Oregon in his top five, sets commitment date

Mater Dei WR Jack Ressler names Oregon in his top five, sets commitment date

Earlier this week, the Oregon Ducks received a prediction to land the No.1 OT in the class of 2024, Brandon Baker. On Wednesday, Bakers Mater Dei High School teammate, Jack Ressler announced his top 5 schools via 247Sports, which includes the Ducks.

Oregon has drawn the interest of quite a few recruits from Mater Dei High School in the 2024 cycle, including 4-star DL Aydin Breland. While Ressler only announced his top five, he is expected to join up with the Ducks according to a 247Sports crystal ball prediction of 100% confidence.

While most outlets only rate Ressler as a 3-star receiver, he still has the potential to be an impactful player. In high school, he has demonstrated the ability to find soft spots in zones, sure-handedness catching the football, and has been a reliable target.

Currently, Oregon has a star-studded WR class, but many of those stars will be on their way out soon, so a receiver like Ressler — that is less likely to transfer away than a more highly-rated recruit —could be a key pickup for the Ducks.

4-star TE Damarion Witten names the Ducks in his top five

Damarion Witten named the Ducks as one of his top schools. Check out the 4-star TE’s recruiting profile:

With official visit season a few weeks away, high school football stars across the country are continuing to name their top schools. In the 2024 recruiting season, the Oregon Ducks have already secured a large load of commitments, and plenty of players have named the Ducks as a finalist. The newest recruit to do so is 4-star TE, Damarion Witten.

Witten is from Cleveland, Ohio, so it’s no surprise that the Ohio State Buckeyes are among his top schools. Multiple 247Sports experts have released crystal ball predictions of Witten to the Buckeyes, but Witten has still yet to announce his commitment.

Early in the spring, it was clear that Oregon had a lack of depth at the TE position, especially after Terrance Ferguson’s injury. Freshman Kenyon Sadiq was impressive in the Ducks’ spring game, but the addition of a TE like Witten would help solidify Oregon’s TE depth chart.

Where Oregon ranks in national blue-chip recruiting ratio ahead of 2023 season

Where Oregon ranks in national blue-chip recruiting ratio ahead of 2023 season

There are a number of ways that you can look at recruiting and the impact that it has on a roster. While many schools across the nation spend millions of dollars, working hard to build the most lavish facilities and give prospects the most luxurious stay on visits when trying to convince them to play for their school, the end result is always what a roster looks like when a recruiting cycle is signed and done.

Once that happens, we like to use the 247Sports Blue-Chip Ratio to look at rosters across the league and determine who has amassed the most talent over the years.

The ratio is simple — it looks at all of the players on a football roster and takes into account how many of the roster spots are filled by someone who was a blue-chip recruit, ie. a 4-star or 5-star player coming out of high school.

Some of the best teams in the nation — Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, etc. — have blue-chip ratios that reach over 80 or 90%, while a majority of the top schools in the nation boast a ratio closer to 60 or 70%.

So where is the Oregon Ducks’ blue-chip ratio going into the 2023 season? Let’s take a look:

4-star CB Dakoda Fields announces commitment between Oregon and USC

4-star CB Dakoda Fields announced his commitment between Oregon and USC on Monday.

Ever since Dan Lanning took over at Oregon, and Lincoln Riley took over at USC, a rivalry on the recruiting front has taken place. We’ve seen it play out while the two teams battled to land guys like 5-star OT Josh Conerly, 4-star CB Jahlil Florence, 4-star CB Rodrick Pleasant, and several other high-profile recruits. The three aforementioned players chose the Ducks over the Trojans.

The latest player in a tug-of-war between the two schools chose the Trojans over the Ducks.

4-star cornerback Dakoda Fields announced on Monday morning that he was committing to USC. Fields goes to Junipero Serra in Gardena, California — the same school that Pleasant went to before committing to the Ducks.

Rated by 247Sports as the No. 10 CB and No. 78 overall player in the 2024 class, Fields is a great pickup for Lincoln Riley and the Trojans.

Ducks land among top schools for 4-star OL Eddy Pierre-Louis

Ducks land among top schools for 4-star OL Eddy Pierre-Louis

The Oregon Ducks are in contention to land one of the physically biggest offensive linemen remaining in the 2024 class, with 4-star interior OL Eddy Pierre Louis narrowing down his recruitment to 10 schools over the weekend.

The Ducks are in the mix with some of the big schools like Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and USC.

Pierre-Louis stands at 6-foot-3, 335 pounds, and is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 12 IOL in the nation, and No. 195 overall player in the class. Pierre-Louis took a visit to Eugene back in April and obviously was impressed by what he saw.

We will see what Oregon OL coach A’lique Terry can continue to do in his recruitment as the rest of the year goes on.

4-star RB Christian Clark, puts Oregon in his top five schools

4-star RB Christian Clark, puts Oregon in his top five schools

It appears that RB coach, Carlos Locklyn, and head coach, Dan Lanning have drawn interest from another elite running back. In the class of 2023, it was Dante Dowdell and Jayden Limar, and in 2024 it could be 4-star Christian Clark, who has named the Ducks one of his top five schools.

Clark is from Phoenix, Arizona, and in his junior season, he gathered 1110 yards along with 17 TDs. Clark is one of a few 2024 RBs that have shown an interest in Oregon, along with 4-star, Ca’lil Valentine and 4-star Anthony “Turbo” Rogers. Currently, Clark is ranked by 247Sports as the 22nd-best RB in the class of 2024.

If the Ducks are able to land even one of these high-quality RB prospects, they are on the verge of building a running back dynasty. With the success of the 2022 transfer additions, Bucky Irving and Noah Whittington, along with the potential of Dowdell and Limar, the Ducks could create a pattern of landing and developing elite RBs for years to come.

Ducks named one of nation’s biggest recruiting winners in May

The Ducks added 4 blue-chip recruits and a pair of top-130 players in the month of May. Not a bad haul.

The Oregon Ducks got on a hot streak during the month of May, and it was hard to ignore.

After picking up four 4-star commitments in the month alone, Oregon shot up to the top 10 of the national recruiting rankings, where they now sit at No. 6 overall. With the string of official visits now getting set to take place in Eugene, it is likely that the hot streak is going to continue for Dan Lanning and his team, but this is a great time to sit back and reflect on what they’ve been able to accomplish so far.

As we embark on the start of June, On3 looked back and named their biggest winners of the month of May. Take a look at where the Ducks landed:

It looks like the Oregon Ducks are continuing to stay in a great spot when it comes to the recruitment of 4-star cornerback Aaron Scott.

A couple of months ago, Scott announced his top 12 schools, including the Ducks. On Thursday, Scott trimmed that list down to five schools, and Oregon was still in the mix, alongside Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, and Penn State.

Scott is rated by 247Sports as the No. 35 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 3 cornerback in the nation. The elite CB came out to Eugene for a visit at the start of May, and reportedly enjoyed his time and opportunity to meet with the coaching staff.

There is currently a crystal ball forecast on 247Sports for Scott to commit to the Ohio State Buckeyes, his hometown team. However, we will see if Dan Lanning and Demetrice Martin can continue to push and get into the mix down to the end.

Ducks pick up prediction to land No. 1 OT in 2024 class

Ducks pick up prediction to land No. 1 OT in 2024 class

In the 2022 class, the Oregon Ducks pulled of a late upset and landed the No. 1 offensive tackle in the recruiting cycle with a commitment from 5-star OT Josh Conerly, getting his signing over the USC Trojans.

A couple of cycles later, and it appears that they could be in line to do the same.

It has long been believed that the Ducks would ultimately be the landing spot for 5-star OT Brandon Baker, the No. 1 rated OT in the 2024 class. However, once Adrian Klemm left Eugene for a job with the New England Patriots, that confidence might have been thrown into doubt a little bit.

No more, though. Earlier this week, On3’s Chad Simmons logged a prediction for the Ducks to get Baker, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 23 player in the 2024 class.

Baker has made a number of trips to Oregon over the past couple of years, and will likely find his way to Eugene for an official visit over the coming months as well.

4-star edge rusher Zina Umeozulu names Oregon as one of top schools

Check out EDGE prospect Zina Umeozulu’s — who named Oregon as one of his top schools — recruiting profile.

As the 2024 recruiting season matures, the number of blue-chip recruits interested in the Oregon Ducks continues to grow. Today, 4-star edge rusher Zina Umeozulu announced his top nine schools, one of which is the Ducks. Umeozulu is ranked by 247Sports as the 141st player in his class and 11th best EDGE.

Umeozulu is from Allen, Texas, and his top schools seem to reflect a liking for his home state and its surrounding region. Of the nine schools he named, five are in Texas or in a state that borders Texas. In addition, Umeozulu’s only two scheduled official visits are with Texas and Oklahoma.

One thing that could make Oregon an attractive target for Umeozulu is the interest of another high-quality 2024 pass rusher, Elijah Rushing. According to On3, the Ducks are the favorite to land Rushing, who many think is the best pass rusher in the 2024 class.

Historically, edge rushers do much better when they have a quality teammate on the other side of the D-line, because it prevents the O-line from focusing too much on one or the other. If Rushing is to come to Oregon, Umeozulu could be attracted by the prospect of being part of a powerhouse freshman pass-rushing tandem.
