NBA fans were thrilled to finally enjoy Steph Curry’s Olympics dominance after torching the league for years

Warriors fans have had it good.

Steph Curry was on another level on Saturday night in Paris as he led the U.S. men’s basketball team to victory over the home favorite French squad, 98-87. Curry went 8-for-13 from three in the game (62.5%), including a late barrage that saw him hit four from deep over a 1:13 span. That late run turned a close game into a done deal and got the long time Golden State Warrior his coveted gold medal.

The flurry of excitement (and threes) made a lot of NBA and basketball fans finally get to enjoy202 just how good the Warriors have had it over the years with Curry at the helm.

NBC’s Noah Eagle met the moment with an incredible call of Steph Curry’s gold-clinching 3-pointer

NBA fans are already asking for more of Noah Eagle and Dwyane Wade.

The NBA is coming back to NBC very soon, beginning in the 2025-26 season.

And while fans can’t wait to hear Roundball Rock again, a few questions still remain about NBC’s coverage. One of them is: Who will the lead broadcast team be?

If these Summer Olympics were a tryout for the broadcasting duo of play-by-play man Noah Eagle and color commentator Dwyane Wade, they absolutely nailed it.

Throughout the men’s basketball tournament in Paris, France, fans have mostly enjoyed the calls from Eagle and Wade. In the gold medal game in particular, Eagle met the moment where Steph Curry clinched the win by swishing a 3-pointer over two French defenders.

Here’s Eagle’s “Golden Dagger” call, which felt like it became iconic almost instantly:

Hang it in the Louvre. You’re already right there.

Steph Curry had his Olympic moment on Saturday night in Paris as the sharpshooter hit four threes down the stretch against France to lock up the gold medal for Team USA.

Curry was electric in his first Olympic games, helping lead a comeback against Serbia in the semifinals before his flurry of treys in the title game.

While his late game heroics were incredible, it was one picture from earlier in the matchup that got people talking online. Framed like a painting you’d see in the nearby Louvre in Paris, it shows France’s young 7-foot-4 superstar Victor Wembanyama closing out on Curry just after he’s released a high-arcing shot.

The phrase “it’s art” is generally overused. Not in this case.

Steph Curry hit France with the ‘night, night’ celebration after drilling the dagger for Olympic gold

Steph Curry sealed the win over the Americans in a way that only he could, draining an absurd 3-pointer over two French defenders.

When the game was on the line, Steph Curry stepped up in an incredibly crucial way for the Americans in a way that only he could.

Which is to say, he hit a flurry of ridiculous 3-pointers.

Late in the fourth quarter of the gold medal game, with just 2:58 to play, France cut the U.S. lead to just three points after Victor Wembanyama tipped in an offensive rebound.

And then, 10 seconds later, Curry swished a 3-pointer.

And then another.

And then another.

And then another.

In the final three minutes of the game, Curry scored 12 points to put the game on ice for the Americans. The dagger in the 98-87 victory that paved the way for the U.S. to secure its 17th Olympic gold medal came with 35 seconds left when Curry responded Wembanyama’s 3-pointer by hitting one of his own over two French defenders.

Curry then told the Frenchmen, “Night, night.”

It was an absurd shot that sealed the win, pushing Team USA’s lead back to nine points. Curry would finish with 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting from 3-point land along with five assists, leading the Americans to a win over France on their homecourt.

Even Dwyane Wade was in awe.

16-year-old Quincy Wilson makes history after U.S. gold in 4×400 relays

What a summer for the Maryland high schooler.

On Friday, 16-year-old Quincy Wilson made history as he became the youngest male track and field athlete to compete in the Olympics. The sophomore at Maryland’s Bullis School ran the first leg of the 4×400 relay, helping the men’s team qualify for Saturday’s finals.

One day later, he’s an Olympic gold medalist. The U.S. relay team of Christopher Bailey, Vernon Norwood, Bryce Deadmon and Rai Benjamin set a new Olympic Record in the event with a 2:54.43. As a member of the team, Wilson gets to take home the hardware, too.

In the stands, Wilson was understandably elated.

Congrats to Team U.S.A., and Wilson has quite the story for his friends back in Maryland when school starts back up.

France’s Guerschon Yabusele put LeBron James on a poster with a devastating dunk during Olympic gold medal game

Guerschon Yabusele put LeBron James on a POSTER during Saturday’s Paris Olympics gold medal game.

LeBron James is still one of the best basketball players on the planet, but don’t tell that to French forward Guerschon Yabusele.

Yabusele completed the incredibly difficult task of putting James on a poster on Saturday with this breathtaking dunk during the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal game for men’s basketball.

James had been having a stellar game to that point for Team USA, but the Yabusele dunk absolutely blew the roof off the arena and probably took the wind out of James’ sails for just a moment.

The former Boston Celtics first-round pick hasn’t played in the NBA in quite some time, but he absolute put down an NBA-worthy highlight on the global stage against one of the best to ever do it. That’s pretty dang impressive.

USWNT coach Emma Hayes delivered a powerful postgame interview after her team took the Paris Olympics gold medal match

This is pretty powerful.

United States women’s national team coach Emma Hayes won her first gold medal with her squad on Saturday as the Americans defeated Brazil in the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal match.

Hayes only joined the program this summer as its head soccer coach after being hired last fall, and she’s already led the team to its first Olympic gold medals since 2012.

While speaking with NBC Sports’ Mike Tirico after the victory, an emotional Hayes discussed why winning the gold meant so much to her.

“I love America. It made me,” Hayes said in the very powerful interview.

The USWNT looks to be in very capable hands with Hayes in the years to come, as winning Olympic gold is a heck of a way to start her tenure.

Kenan Thompson brought back All That’s Pierre Escargot for the Paris Olympics, and it was glorious

IT’S PIERRE ESCARGOT!!!

Saturday Night Live legend Kenan Thompson deserves an Olympic gold medal for what he did on the Peacock Olympic Highlights show he hosts with Kevin Hart.

In what may well be the most pleasant surprise of the 2024 Paris Olympics (at least to the person writing this post), Thompson honored his sketch comedy history by bringing back his All That character Pierre Escargot.

The “Everyday French with Pierre Escargot” segments on All That were always hysterical, and Thompson bringing the character back while discussing this year’s Paris Olympics is just beyond delightful.

We’re not sure who convinced Thompson to do this, but you have our eternal gratitude. Between this and last year’s Good Burger sequel, 1990s nostalgists are thriving these days.

Tearful USWNT coach Hayes after winning gold: ‘I love America, it made me’

The USWNT head coach was emotional after leading the team to a gold medal

An emotional Emma Hayes said she was “desperate” to win a gold medal for the United States, saying the country made her who she is today.

Hayes led the U.S. women’s national team to the gold medal on Saturday, as Mallory Swanson’s goal sealed a 1-0 victory over Brazil in the Olympic final.

The result was a massive achievement for Hayes, who was only coaching her 10th game for the USWNT. The London native finished out the 2023-24 campaign with Chelsea before taking over as U.S. head coach in late May.

After the game, Hayes was interviewed on NBC by host Mike Tirico, who asked how she masterminded such an impressive turnaround so quickly after taking over.

“Just love,” Hayes replied. “I come from a place of wanting players to enjoy themselves. I’ve been at a club for 12 years and I’ve had huge success but I was desperate to do well for this country. I’m so emotional because it’s not every day you win a gold medal.”

Tirico asked Hayes why she was desperate to do it for the United States.

“I love America,” Hayes replied. “It made me, and I always say that.”

Hayes began her coaching career in 2002 with the Long Island Lady Riders, before taking over as head coach of Iona University and then coaching the Chicago Red Stars, then of WPS.

She then returned to England, taking over Chelsea and leading the Blues to seven league titles during her 12 years in charge.

Should San Antonio Spurs fans root for Team USA or Victor Wembanyama at the 2024 Paris Olympics final?

Quite a specifically San Antonio quandary, one can look at the tilt a few ways.

Should San Antonio Spurs fans root for Team USA or Victor Wembanyama at the 2024 Paris Olympics Men’s Basketball 5 × 5 final? Quite a specifically San Antonio quandary, one can look at the tilt a few ways. Spurs fans can simply be patriotic in the old-school way and suspend other allegiances for supporting Team USA.

One could also eschew rooting for the US National Team given they have already earned more than their fair share of golds over the decades and a win for Wemby would be transformative for the sport. A third path remains open of simply enjoying the game and its high-level play, with either club coming out on top being a win for most fans of the Spurs.

To talk it over on a recent segment for local San Antonio station KENS 5, the broadcasters put together the clip embedded below.

Give it a watch to see if you agree with their takes on this local hot button issue.
