Ohio State vs Wisconsin Game Preview

Why Wisconsin Will Win

You 100% sure this Ohio State defense is where it needs to be?

It was the biggest topic of conversation around the program this offseason – could the D rise up to a national title level?

It’s been great so far, but Notre Dame, Arkansas State, and Toledo aren’t proper tests to see just how strong this group really is, and now the Badgers are showing up after getting everything rolling against New Mexico State in a 66-7 win.

No, Wisconsin isn’t going to throw for 335 yards like it did last week, but it’s going to pound, and pound, and pound some more. Get ready for the game to slow down a bit as the O tries to hold on to the ball for well over 35 minutes.

And then there’s the other side.

Wisconsin’s defense might not be the best in the nation like it was last year – at least statistically – but it held down Cameron Ward and the Washington State offense, gave up one decent drive against Illinois State, and so far has allowed just one touchdown pass.

Notre Dame was able to hold up against the Buckeye onslaught, and Wisconsin’s defense is even better.

However …

Why Ohio State Will Win

Ohio State isn’t screwing up.

One. The Buckeye offense lost just one fumble against Arkansas State, and that’s it for the turnovers. One. The team got hit with just one penalty in the 77-21 annihilation of a solid Toledo team.

How did Wisconsin lose to Washington State? It turned it over three times and committed 11 penalties. This isn’t a team – or a program – that reacts well to adversity. All it might take is one giveaway and a few third-and-long moments to screw it all up.

Get up early with a few scoring drives, make Graham Mertz have to throw to get Wisconsin back in the game, and bad things are going to happen.

On the other side, as good as the Wisconsin defense might be, it’s about to get hit hard by the Ohio State offense that’s got the balance, the line, and the ability to take over right away.

To do that, it starts with …

Week 4 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

CJ Stroud. 73% completion rate, 941 yards, 11 touchdowns, no interceptions.

Even with Jaxon Smith-Njigba hurting, the machine keeps on rolling, TreyVeon Henderson and Milan Williams are running well, and the offense is operating at a whole other level.

Wisconsin will have a few decent drives with Braelon Allen and Chez Mellusi pounding away early, but it’ll all come apart late in the second quarter.

The Buckeyes will start well, sputter as the Badger defense settles in, and then …

Turnover. The Ohio State D will come up with a pick, Stroud will connect on a TD pass three plays later, and that will be that.

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin: 3 reasons the Badgers could give the Buckeyes problems in the Big Ten Championship Game

Here’s three reasons why Wisconsin could give Ohio State some issues in the Big Ten Championship Game Saturday night.

Ohio State is all set to travel to Indianapolis to take part in the Big Ten Championship Game for the third-straight year. It was successful in the last two and looking to become the first league team to take home a trophy three years in a row.

Standing in its way is Wisconsin, also a team familiar with Indianapolis. The Badgers have more appearances in the Big Ten Championship Game than any other team in the league, but have just two titles, and haven’t won any since 2012.

These two already met once in the regular season, with the Buckeyes winning going away in Columbus in late October. Can the Badgers find a way to make this one more competitive and even (gasp) win the thing?

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Big Ten Championship Game Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

It’s about time to go for this Big Ten Championship thing. Our staff members take turns predicting the winner of Ohio State and Wisconsin.

It’s time for the sequel, and we can only hope in this case the second one is better than the first — well, at least if you’re Wisconsin. In Columbus in late October, there was some “Midwest” weather, then things got away from the Badgers in the second half.

Weather won’t be a problem in Lucas Oil Stadium unless there’s a roof leak, but there’s still the little issue of dealing with this Ohio State team that has cast aside every challenge faced before it with bad intentions.

We’ve already previewed the game and made a bold prediction, asked for a Badgers’ writer perspective on things, and now we’re asking our staff to make their call on the game individually.

Does anyone give Wisconsin a chance? Let’s find out …

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Big Ten Championship Game roundtable: 4 questions with the enemy

We worked with our sister site Badgers Wire on a roundtable Q&A session on the Big Ten Championship Game between Ohio State and Wisconsin.

It’s an even bigger one that what we saw in round one when Ohio State and Wisconsin matched up. That’s because this one is for a title and some hardware that’ll go in one of the two team’s trophy case.

We worked with one or our sister sites Badgers Wire on a Q&A on the game. We’re always interested in the perspective of the opposing team, and Matt Zemek gives us that as he did the first time around when the Badgers and Buckeyes tussled in Columbus.

If you’re a Wisconsin Badgers fan, we encourage you to give Badgers Wire a follow, bookmark the website. There’s a ton of good stuff going on over there, and they are good people.

But we digress. We lobbed four questions over Zemek, and here’s how it went.

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Big Ten Championship Game preview: 5 reasons the Buckeyes win

Ohio State handled Wisconsin pretty handily the first time around, now it has to beat the Badgers one more time in the Big Ten Championship.

The first one was so nice, they’re playing it twice.

Ohio State outlasted and outmanned the Wisconsin Badgers the first time around 38-7, and now it’s tasked with beating them again in the Big Ten Championship Game Saturday. They say it’s hard to beat a good team twice in one season, but the reality is, we’ve not really seen that in the Big Ten, or with the Buckeyes for that matter.

Either way, Wisconsin does have one of the best running backs in the country, a physical brand, and the culture to pick itself off the proverbial mat to try and make this one a game this time. Oh, and there’s a championship and trophy on the line, so getting up to play this one shouldn’t be an issue.

Here’s five reasons the Buckeyes win Saturday in Indianapolis

All-Time Series: Ohio State leads 60-18-5
Last Meeting: Ohio State defeated Wisconsin 38-7 earlier this year

Boom! There’s nothing quite like owning your arch rival. The Buckeyes took care of business in impressive fashion with a dominating win over the Wolverines in Ann Arbor this past Saturday.

The regular season is done and now it’s time to focus on bigger prizes, namely a Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff birth.

The Buckeyes will  face the Badgers of Wisconsin in a rematch of a crossover game from earlier in the season in which Ohio State cruised to a 38-7 victory in less than ideal weather conditions.

Weather won’t be a factor under the cover of Lucas Oil Stadium as Ohio State looks for its third straight Big Ten Championship.

On to Indy!
