With Ohio State kicker Blake Haubeil out, who boots it for the Buckeyes?

The Buckeyes will have to turn to either walk-on Dominic DiMaccio or freshman Jake Seibert for kicking duties.

It may not seem like that big of a deal, but any football coach in America will tell you that having a reliable kicker makes life a lot less stressful. Things are no different at Ohio State. Sure, the Buckeyes are scoring touchdowns in droves, but extra points and field goals can make a big difference should OSU find themselves in a close game.

Senior kicker Blake Haubeil is out at least this Saturday night after leaving last week’s game at Penn State with a groin injury. Haubeil had been pretty much automatic before the injury making 24 of 29 FGs over the course of two-plus years and a perfect 131 for 131 on extra points.

The Buckeyes now find themselves in unfamiliar territory. Walk on Dominic DiMaccio came on for the injured Haubeil and made 1 of 2 field-goal tries in Happy Valley. Not horrible, but can he be counted on in high-pressure situations?

Enter freshman, Jake Seibert. We told you Seibert lost his black stripe earlier this week and is now an official member of the football team. Seibert wasn’t originally part of the plan for this year, but it looks like he may be thrust into the spotlight.

Coming from Cincinnati La Salle High School, Seibert was ranked the No. 2 kicker in the nation. Groin injuries can be tricky and with the extent of Haubeil’s injury unknown, it looks like Seibert may get a crack at taking over the reins in the interim.

We shall see.

Ohio State vs. Rutgers Enemy Territory preview. Get to know the Scarlet Knights

Ohio State is hosting Rutgers Saturday night in the ‘Shoe. Here’s everything you need to know about the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Before every game, we provide a preview of Ohio State football’s opponent for the upcoming week. It’s just an eight-game slate to the regular season, so there aren’t as many games to talk about, but we soldier on.

So, if you want to impress your friends while watching the game, we’ve got your cheat code right here. We do the research, you drop nuggets. You win on Saturdays. It’s as simple as that.

Ohio State’s third game of the year is against a Rutgers team that is looking like an improved outfit under new/old head coach and former Urban Meyer Buckeye assistant Greg Schiano. It’s hard to see this thing playing out as a competitive contest, but that’s why they play the games.

Anyway, you still need to know the opponent, so here’s all you need.

Ohio State vs. Penn State Buckeyes Wire staff predictions for Saturday

Ohio State welcomes former assistant Greg Schiano and Rutgers to the ‘Shoe for a night game. Our writers predict what will happen.

We are on the doorstep of game No. 3 for 2020 Ohio State football season, and this one isn’t expected to be much of a fight. However, each team has to be taken seriously, and Rutgers appears to be an improved outfit with Greg Schiano back at the helm.

Still, as a -38 point favorite, the night game in the ‘Shoe looks like a mere formality speed bump on the way to a run for a special season, or so we hope.

Each week, we poll our three staff members to get their thoughts and predictions on what they see happening ahead of the game, and we’ve got those results for you again.

Here’s how each writer at Buckeyes Wire sees the game between Ohio State and Rutgers panning out.

Ohio State releases player status availability information for Rutgers game

The fine folks at Ohio State have released the player status and availability report ahead of the Rutgers game. Here’s how it looks.

Every Friday Ohio State releases information on the depth chart, status and player availability for the upcoming game. That process continues in 2020 aside from the customary depth chart.

With the coronavirus pandemic still creating havoc in the world of sports and beyond, this status report takes on even more meaning as teams across the country try to make sure they have enough personnel to play contests without putting each other at risk.

As you would expect, the list of unavailable players has grown since the start of the season, but the good news is that OSU continues to be in relatively good shape.

Cameron Brown is out after suffering an Achilles injury against the Nittany Lions. It also looks like kicker Blake Huebiel is not available as he deals with a groin injury.

All in all though, the team looks really healthy overall and it looks like Justin Hilliard is now available as well after a false-positive COVID-19 result last week.

Here’s what we’ve been told by the fine folks at Ohio State.

Three reasons Ohio State beats Rutgers big on Saturday

Ohio State welcomes Rutgers for a night affair in the ‘Shoe Saturday. Here are three reasons the Buckeyes put on a show and win big.

Ohio State has looked fantastic so far in 2020. It began the season by rolling over Nebraska in the second half and followed that up by beating what we believe is a talented Penn State team on the road.

We don’t expect the high level of play to stop this weekend either.

That’s because the Buckeyes host a Rutgers program that’s searching for a culture and identity metamorphosis under former OSU assistant Greg Schiano. So far, his second stint as the head coach in Piscataway has had an immediate impact, but there’s little doubt that things need to get a whole lot better before swashbuckling into Ohio Stadium and pulling off a shocker against his former team.

As always, we give you three reasons why Ohio State will beat its opponent Saturday — this time in the form of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Next…The state of things

WATCH: Ryan Day addresses the media, previews Rutgers

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day met with the media on a Zoom call Monday to look back on Penn State and preview the Rutgers matchup.

It’s Tuesday, and that means Ohio State head coach Ryan Day had his turn with the media to discuss the past game against Penn State and to look ahead to Rutgers this Saturday.

Day was pleased with his team’s performance on the road at Penn State, but made it clear that the Buckeyes have to continue to get better each and every week if they want to reach their ultimate goals. It’s also the homecoming of former Ohio State assistant Greg Schiano who’s now chopping wood again for Rutgers, so that is an interesting storyline.

In case you missed anything Day said, you can click on the below Twitter link shared by the official Ohio State Buckeyes Twitter account. Day discusses the week-to-week unknowns with the COVID-19 pandemic, his team cleaning up sloppy penalties, the injury and efforts to replace defensive back Cameron Brown, and much, much more.

Ohio State vs. Rutgers 2020 Football Preview And Prediction

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights come to Columbus to take on the No. 3 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. We’ve got your preview and prediction.

Record

Ohio State (2-0), Rutgers (1-1)

Broadcast, TV, Game Time

Date: Saturday, November 7
Game Time: 7:30 pm EST
Network: Big Ten Network
Venue: Ohio Stadium – Capacity – 104,944 (no fans permitted due to COVID-19 restrictions)
All-Time Series: Ohio State leads 6-0
Last Meeting: Ohio State defeated Rutgers 56-21 in 2019

Ohio State went into Happy Valley and took care of the Nittany Lions in a prime time showdown. Unlike the Nebraska game, the Buckeyes looked sharp from the beginning, cementing themselves in the top tier of the college football conversation with Alabama and Clemson.

On to week three with no room for error and a matchup with a better than expected Rutgers team. Everyone kind of laughed it off in week one when the Scarlet Knights knocked off Michigan State. But then the Spartans proceeded to take down a resurgent Michigan team and maybe Rutgers is better than what we’re used to?

Welcome back to the ‘Shoe, Greg Schiano. Time to see what you’re made of.

Next … The game plan

Ohio State beats Rutgers: 5 things we learned in victory

Ohio State took care of business against Rutgers on Saturday. Here’s five things we learned.

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t quite the score most people projected, but Ohio State still more than took care of business against a Rutgers team that’s just looking to turn the page into a new era.

Like most games, the Buckeyes raced out to a big lead, then cruised from there. The second and third teamers may have took it on the chin just a wee-bit toward the tail-end of the game, but it was still good experience and something the whole team can grow from.

Next up is the big one against Penn State, but first we take time to reflect with five things we learned from the Ohio State win over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Anyone can make the spectacular play at anytime

Yeah, you know about Justin Fields, J.K. Dobbins, and Chase Young, but there’s so much NFL talent on this roster it’s a bit ridiculous. I think we’re going to look back on this year’s team and be absolutely floored by how many kids end up playing ball on Sundays.

Wide-receiver Chris Olave made a draw-dropping catch, cornerback Shaun Wade made a highlight-reel interception, and they aren’t the only ones to get into the spotlight.

Again, maybe it didn’t go as well with after the first-teamers as you would have thought against Rutgers, but this team has a depth of talent maybe nobody else in the country has.

Watch what Rutgers interim head coach Nunzio Campanile said about Ohio State post game

Rutgers interim head coach Nunzio Campanile met with the media after the game and had some complimentary things to say about Ohio State.

It wasn’t as dominant on the scoreboard as what many would have thought, or what had taken place in other games this year, but Ohio State went to Rutgers and took care of business with an easy 56-21 victory.

The Buckeyes raced out to a dominant, early lead, got the starters out of harm’s way in the second half, then put it on cruise control to put it away and turn the page towards the game against Penn State next week.

We’ve said it before, but we always like to give you the comments of the opposing head coach after the conclusion of each game, and it’s no difference here.

Rutgers interim head coach Nunzio Campanile met with the media in Piscataway after the game and said some very complimentary things about the Buckeyes after the game.

He seemed encouraged that his team kept fighting, but also knows that Ohio State is one whale of a team. Watch his entire comments below courtesy of RVision.

WATCH: Ohio State cornerback Shaun Wade makes incredible interception

Ohio State cornerback Shaun Wade made a circus interception Saturday against Rutgers.

Some of the Ohio State skill position players made some unbelievable, highlight-worthy plays Saturday against Rutgers. Wide receiver Chris Olave hauled in a deep ball that you have to rewatch no less than six times, but he wasn’t the only one making circus catches.

On the other side of the ball, cornerback Shaun Wade had himself a pretty remarkable interception. While dropping back in coverage, and with his head turned to the ball, he was able to look back at just the right moment, get his hand in the way for a deflection, then somehow find the ball on the way to the ground and snatch it before it hit the ground.

If you didn’t get a chance to see it the first time, or just want to re-live it, click on the below shared by BTN on Twitter and rewind and replay it.

These high-profile guys on offense and defense are making some of these plays look easy, but they are far from it.
