WATCH: What Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano said about Ohio State after the game

Greg Schiano came away impressed with the talent of Ohio State. Here why he says he believes the Buckeyes are beginning to hit their stride.

The Ohio State football team seems to be figuring some things out. After an explosion of offense last week against Akron and a better-looking effort on defense, the Buckeyes backed that up against a Rutgers team that’s been pretty good so far this season.

Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano knew the challenge ahead of his team Saturday, but probably didn’t expect the game to end up being such a runaway for the Buckeyes who took control early and ended up winning the game 52-13.

Schiano took his medicine and met with the local Rutgers media after the game to discuss his team and also what he thinks about Ohio State. He wasn’t too happy with his team’s performance, but he was quick to give the Buckeyes a lot of credit, saying that they are “hitting their stride.”

It was a brief press conference, but it was clear that Schiano believes OSU is a team that is improving and has a ton of skill. Watch the Scarlet Knights’ head coach praise the team and talent on the Ohio State sideline among other things in the below video shared by the Rutgers YouTube Channel.

Ohio State next takes on Maryland this coming Saturday back at home in the ‘Shoe. Kickoff is set for Noon EDT back on Fox.

Five things we think we learned from Ohio State’s victory over Rutgers

What a performance by Ohio State. Here are five things we think we learned from the dismantling of Rutgers.

What a difference a couple of weeks make. The Ohio State football team was left for dead when it lost to Oregon and then struggled against Tulsa. And to be fair, the criticism was justified and real. There were clear issues on both sides of the ball that needed to be corrected.

Against Akron, and even more importantly against Rutgers Saturday, the Buckeyes look like a much-improved bunch moving in the right direction. Remember, Michigan got all it could handle from the Scarlet Knights.

There were a lot of big plays on both sides of the ball, and there’s plenty to take away from a very, very impressive 52-13 performance on the road.

Here are five things that stood out as we watched the Buckeyes dismantle Rutgers on Saturday afternoon.

NEXT … Is the comparison real?

Ohio State vs Rutgers three and out halftime review

The #Buckeyes are dominating Rutgers. Here’s what we noticed in the first half.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are taking it to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to the tune of 45-6 and Ohio State. Simply put — the Buckeye have looked fantastic. It was hard to judge the strides that the defense made last week because of the competition, but it is pretty clear today that this defense is making real, tangible improvement and will hopefully be a completely different unit by the time the Buckeyes take on other so-called title-contending Big Ten foes like Penn State and Michigan.

Let’s not forget though that Rutgers has been no slouch this year. Ohio State is much more talented than the Scarlet Knights as illustrated by the spread of over two touchdowns, but we got a glimpse of how good Rutgers can be as they almost upset the Michigan Wolverines last week.

There are so many things to evaluate with this game like the TreVeyon Henderson performance and injury,  and Lathon Ransom and his consistent presence on defense. But the following three things are what have been most interesting to monitor.

WATCH: C.J. Stroud keeps play alive, finds Olave on unbelievable TD catch and dash

This might be one of the best highlights of the year for Ohio State. What a play by both C.J. Stroud and Chris Olave.

The big plays just keep on coming for Ohio State against Rutgers. C.J. Stroud is throwing the ball all over the field, the running game has it going, and the defense is looking like a much, much better unit.

Just before the half, the Buckeyes struck again through the air and it is one of the best highlights of the year that showed off two of OSU’s best players’ abilities.

It all started with Stroud’s ability to keep the play alive and wiggle out of the pocket. It bought receiver Chris Olave more time to gain separation, with Stroud finding him on the run. From there, Olave completed the highlight by weaving through the Rutgers defense for a 56-yard touchdown. It’s a play you’ll want to look at for sure because it’s a jaw-dropper.

It’s now halftime in Piscataway and OSU is rolling, up 45-6 at the break. Quite an impressive showing, and one that will hopefully give the Buckeyes some much-needed confidence to run through the rest of the schedule.

WATCH: C.J. Stroud throws laser to tight end Jeremy Ruckert for touchdown vs. Rutgers

Look at how live C.J. Stroud’s arm looks on this TD strike to Jeremy Ruckert.

Ohio State has it rolling in Piscataway vs. the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. It seems the Buckeyes are improving greatly and taking out all the frustrations of weeks past on the road in New Jersey.

The latest comes by way of a laser from C.J. Stroud to tight end Jeremy Ruckert. The week off seems to have down Stroud well. He’s looking much more confident, accurate, and his arm seems to be more live than what we’ve seen through the first few games.

In this one, Stroud also does a nice job of standing in the pocket, letting Ruckert’s route develop, and then zipping a pass right on target for a 19-yard touchdown pass.

Ohio State is looking awfully good against a Rutgers team that has been pretty solid so far this year. Let’s hope it continues through the rest of the game.

WATCH: TreVeyon Henderson scores on second play from scrimmage vs. Rutgers

TreVeyon Henderson scampers 44 yards for a touchdown. #GoBucks

Well, that didn’t take long. Ohio State was left with excellent field position after Rutgers decided to try a fake punt from the OSU 48 on their opening drive. After connecting with Jeremy Ruckert on a short gain, C.J. Stroud put the ball in the hands of freshman phenom TreVeyon Henderson and he was off to the races.

Henderson made one cut and ran 44 yards to paydirt leaving a trail of Scarlet Knights in his wake, and giving the Buckeyes a 7-0 lead just under three minutes into the game. Henderson continues to be special for the Bucks in his young career.

Watch Henderson break free on the run below.

Ohio State is looking good in the early onset in Piscataway.

Final thoughts before Ohio State plays Rutgers

Here are some final thoughts before Ohio State takes on Rutgers Saturday.

It’s game day and this time the Ohio State football team hits the road to start the meat of the Big Ten season. So far, we’ve seen some up and down performances but there are some signs that the Buckeyes are beginning to get something of an identity. We’ll see how it all goes against a Rutgers team that has been very good defensively and gave Michigan all it could handle last weekend.

Each week, we provide some final thoughts and a stream of conscious ideas to get you ready for the game. And with a road trip against a Scarlet Knights team that seems to be a program on the rise, there’s a lot we want to see from OSU heading into this one.

Here are our final thoughts on the day Ohio State travels to Piscataway, New Jersey, to take on the Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights.

Ohio State vs. Rutgers Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

The experts provide their predictions on what Ohio State will do against Rutgers. #Buckeyes

The Ohio State Buckeyes now sit at 3-1 after an extremely convincing win over the Akron Zips, 59-7. They will now be visiting the Rutgers Scarlet Knights who are also sitting at 3-1, but they suffered their first loss just last weekend to the Michigan Wolverines, 20-13. Despite this being a loss, Rutgers played extremely well and look like a team on the rise in the Big Ten.

Last weekend we got to deal with all of the excitement of seeing the reserve quarterbacks, but this week we will get a seemingly healthy C.J. Stroud back under center. We apparently have not seen a healthy Stroud yet this season, so I am excited to see what the young man can do when 100 percent.

We are moving on to our staff predictions for the Rutgers game. We all predicted a Buckeye victory last week, but only one had the guts to predict the Buckeyes to defeat the spread! Let’s see what everyone has for this week.

Rutgers Wire: The Ohio State program and game from a Scarlet Knights’ perspective

Our friends at Rutgers wire give perspective on what Scarlet Knights fans think of Ohio State and the matchup this weekend.

We’re just one day away from the Ohio State football team jumping into the depth of Big Ten play, and it’ll all get going with a game against a Rutgers team on the upswing. Former OSU defensive coordinator and now two-time Scarlet Knights head coach Greg Schiano has instantly changed the culture and talent level in Piscataway, so this one isn’t expected to be a walk among the roses like in previous years.

We always like to get an outside perspective of the game and Ohio State program from the opposition when we can, and in this case, it just so happens that we have a sister site, Rutgers Wire, to kick the tires on what the word on the street is out in New Jersey.

We asked Kristian Dyer to give us his perspective on what Rutgers fans think of Ohio State, this game, and the direction of the Scarlet Knights program in general, and he was happy to oblige.

Here’s what Dyer said about the Buckeye program and what this game means to the Scarlet Knights.

How to watch, stream, listen to Ohio State vs. Rutgers

Everything you need to know to listen and watch Ohio State football take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights this Saturday.

After a dominating performance against Akron, Ohio State is ready to take on its remaining conference schedule. That road begins in Piscataway, New Jersey, as the Bucks travel to take on former Buckeye coach, Greg Schiano and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Playing the Scarlet Knights used to be a guaranteed victory, but not any longer. Schiano has Rutgers playing good football and will be well prepared to take on OSU as was the scene last Saturday when they went toe to toe with Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Hopefully, Ohio State has found its identity after looking inconsistent at best through the first three games of the season. Ryan Day seems to think this is a much different team than the one that began the year. We’ll find out if there is any truth to that statement on Saturday in SHI Stadium.
