Ohio State issues availability report for Minnesota game

We are getting close. Here are the players that won’t be available for the game against Minnesota Thursday night.

The fine folks with the Ohio State football team have issued the availability report for the game against Minnesota, and there are a few notable names that will not be taking part in game No. 1.

Offensive lineman Harry Miller and cornerback Cameron Brown are the most significant names listed as unavailable. Here is the complete update from the Ohio State Athletic Department.

Game-Time Decision

N/A

Unavailable

  • WR Kamryn Babb
  • CB Cameron Brown
  • DT Jerron Cage
  • SAF Jantzen Dunn
  • DE Tyler Friday
  • OL Jakob James
  • BUL Jaylen Johnson
  • LB Mitchell Melton
  • OL Harry Miller
  • TE Joe Royer

The unavailability of Miller means the offensive line we saw practicing for a lot of fall camp will need to be reshuffled. There will either be movement up and down the line, or presumed backup Luke Wypler could step in and take his place.

Ohio State and Minnesota will face off at 8 p.m EDT in a nationally televised broadcast on FOX.

Five keys to Ohio State beating Minnesota

We give you five keys to Ohio State beating Minnesota. How excited are you that game day is here?

It’s finally here Ohio State football fans. After a long offseason following a bizarre and shortened COVID-19 2020 season, the 2021 campaign is ready to kick off Thursday night against Minnesota.

But there are a lot of unknowns for the Buckeyes. Ryan Day and staff are breaking in new quarterback C.J. Stroud, and there are other new faces that need to step up and perform immediately in a hostile environment.

All of that being said, there are always keys to the game, especially when you open the season on the road off the jump and we’re here to provide five that will be important to Ohio State starting the season on a positive note.

Three reasons Ohio State beats Minnesota Thursday

The Minnesota offense took a big step back in 2020, but will they take a step forward in 2021?

The time is here! On Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. EDT on FOX, our beloved Ohio State Buckeyes will be kicking off the 2021 football season against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

This will be just the third time since 1975 that the Buckeyes will open the season on the road against a Big Ten opponent. Woody Hayes coached that team to a 21-0 win over Michigan State and if the spread is any indicator, Ryan Day will be looking to repeat history. Ohio State also beat Indiana in Bloomington by a score of 49-21 in 2017 to break the seal on the season.

Ohio State has not visited Minnesota since 2014 when it was able to squeeze out a close victory 31-24. With this being the season opener, there are a ton of questions, but we are going to highlight three big reasons the Buckeyes will beat the Golden Gophers in the Twin Cities in prime time.

Ohio State vs. Minnesota 2021 football preview and prediction

Preview and prediction for Ohio State vs. Minnesota

Ladies and gentlemen, college football is back with it being game week for Ohio State! And back the way it should be with full stadiums of real live people and not cardboard cutouts. It felt good to watch games this past weekend and hear the crowds roar! It’s the little things we had taken for granted, so now it feels even more special.

Week 0 came and went. Bret Bielema is back in the Big Ten and looking to put Illinois back on the map, while Scott Frost’s seat got a little bit warmer with a loss to the Illini and several inexcusable mental mistakes.

Now for Buckeye fans, football really begins as Ohio State travels to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers for a Thursday night showdown. It’s the first steps of what Ryan Day and the rest of the Buckeyes hope is another shot at a national championship.

LOOK: Minnesota to wear alternate uniforms against Ohio State

Check out the alternate threads Minnesota will be wearing against Ohio State.

Nothing says a big game like a prime-time matchup with the lights on. Throw in some alternate threads and you know that things have reached a fever pitch.

That’s the case with the first college football game of the year for Minnesota and Ohio State it appears. It might be on a Thursday night, but it’s at night under the lights as an event all by itself on FOX. And it appears the Golden Gophers are taking advantage of the setting to also unveil some alternate uniforms.

The official Minnesota Football Twitter account dropped the announcement and reveal late last week in a video that had a lot of emotion in it. Watch below as the players lose their rowing-the-boat minds as the uniforms are revealed.

It might seem like the reaction doesn’t quite match the situation here, but you have to love the Minnesota players for getting in the right frame of mind to try and knock off the favored Buckeyes.

Meanwhile, it’ll probably be a business trip with the standard, clean, white top and gray pants for Ohio State. Tune in on September 2 to watch all the fun.

Ohio State football game at Minnesota will be at full capacity to start 2021 season

The Ohio State football game vs. Minnesota to open the 2021 season will be at full capacity according to an announcement from the Gophers.

In a sign that things may very well be pretty close to normal this fall, the Minnesota athletic department announced that all athletic events will be back at full capacity. This includes the first football game of the Big Ten season between Ohio State and the Golden Gophers on Thursday, September 2. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST and will be played at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

“We are excited to safely welcome fans back into our venues,” Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle said in a released statement. “We will follow all University, local, and state guidelines. And — we are looking forward to our fans once again providing a tremendous advantage for our Gopher student-athletes when they compete on campus. We are so thankful for our fans, donors, and sponsors who helped provide necessary resources for our student-athletes last season, but we missed seeing and hearing them at games. We cannot wait to welcome everyone back to campus in a few months, while still providing our fans with a safe and enjoyable experience.”

We’re still not sure what that means for Ohio State and its planned capacity for the season’s home games this fall. OSU athletic director Gene Smith has expressed optimism in a full stadium, as has Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. But nothing has been made official yet, except for a number of season ticket sales and student and faculty/staff kicking off. A further inventory still to be determined will be released in early August according to the Ohio State athletic department.

Still, it sure looks like things are trending in the right direction and you can bet as soon as any inventory is released, Buckeye fans will be all over it.
