Ohio State fans can watch Raesjon Davis commit live on CBS Sports HQ

Watch live to find out if Raesjon Davis will pick Ohio State. He’ll be committing live on CBS Sports HQ Wednesday morning.

The early signing period has kind of taken away the excitement of national signing day. Remember when a major recruit would be sitting in his high school gym with four or five hats sitting in front of him and his family? Then after a short speech thanking any and everyone around, select the hat of his school destination followed by an eruption of cheers.

While most major recruits have already committed, there is a handful of those who will be making their decision today, old school style. One of those is Reasjon Davis, a four-star linebacker out of California.

With most believing Davis will pick USC, there is some hope in Buckeye nation after an unofficial visit to Columbus just two weeks ago. Davis and his family said they had a great trip and that Ohio State definitely moved up his list.

You can watch Davis pick where he will sign live on CBS Sports HQ today at 11:30 am EST.

We kind of have a feeling of how it will go, but there’s that small voice saying… just maybe.

Best Ohio State football recruit from every state since the year 2000

We’ve scoured the composite rankings from 247Sports and compiled a list that includes the best commitment from every state since 2000.

Ohio State football is a national brand when it comes to recruiting. A slew of recruits come from the great state of Ohio, but when you send players to the NFL like the Buckeye program does, the program’s reach goes from coast-to-coast. In fact, it’s not a surprise any longer when more prospects come from outside of Ohio, than from within its borders.

That means there are plenty of big-time prospects that leave the comfortable confines of their home state to come to the banks of the Olentangy to play college football at one of the bluest of blue bloods in the sport.

In honor of the traditional national signing day, we thought it would be fun to go through and mine for the best recruit from every state on record according to the 247Sports composite rankings that go back to the year 2000.

Before we get started, there are 29 states represented here, meaning 21 that aren’t. The states you won’t see on this list: Alabama, Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Also, this list does not include any players that haven’t already signed and enrolled in classes, so no current commitments or current signees that will arrive in the fall or next year are eligible.

Ohio State commitment and No. 1 receiver in 2022 class, Caleb Burton, reaffirms his pledge to Buckeyes

The class of 2022’s top receiver, Caleb Burton, has reaffirmed his pledge to Ohio State despite the Longhorn’s hire of Steve Sarkisian.

Ohio State has already put together some pretty impressive commitments for the 2022 football recruiting class despite it only being January of 2021. One of those is the country’s top wide receiver, Caleb Burton, out of Del Valle, Texas.

According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Burton is ranked as the top receiver and No. 14 overall prospect in the entire class.

He was another of Texas’ best prospects that shunned the Longhorns and committed to a program out of state. That was how things went at the end of former Texas coach Tom Herman’s tenure, but now there is a new man in charge of the program, former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.

Many believe that now that Sarkisian is the head coach in Austin, some of those prospects that got away may re-consider. When that discussion comes up, Burton’s name is one that is on the shortlist of commitments Longhorn fans believe could be flipped back to the color of burnt orange.

However, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Far from it in fact. According to Texas insider C.J. Vogel, Burton remains very much committed to Ohio State and has established a very strong relationship with Buckeye wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.

This is good news for OSU. Based on the way things went in the national championship game, you had to at least be a little worried about a Texas kid getting excited about what Sarkisian showed he could do with the future of the Texas offense.

So far so good though for the Buckeyes’ commitments that Texas might want to try and bring back home. We haven’t heard a lot from quarterback Quinn Ewers, but if we do, we’ll be on top of that.

Four-star 2021 Ohio State linebacker target Raesjon Davis sets announcement date

According to 247Sports, Ohio State 4-star linebacker target Raesjon Davis will announce his college choice Weds. at 11:30 a.m. EST.

If you’ve been following the Ohio State recruiting news as of late, you’ve no doubt be tracking the developments of four-star 2021 linebacker Raesjon Davis. The 6-foot, 1-inch, 215-pounder out of Mater Dei High School was originally committed to LSU but opened things back up. Since then, he has narrowed his choice to USC, Oregon, and yes — Ohio State.

That means the Buckeyes are going against two West Coast schools for a West Coast guy. However, based on a conversation Davis had with Greg Biggins of 247Sports, Ohio State’s chances of landing him have increased since his visit to campus last weekend.

Davis is currently ranked as the No. 4 outside linebacker and No. 48 overall prospect in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

And now, we know when he will be making his decision as well. It looks like Davis will be announcing his choice during the 247Sports National Signing Day Show at 11:30 a.m. EST Wednesday.

Davis is one of two main priorities the Buckeyes are still looking to land, with the other being five-star defensive end, J.T. Tuimoloau, who won’t be making his choice until at least April.

Stay tuned …

Ohio State football picks up preferred walk-on

Ohio State picked up a preferred walk-on Friday, with Michigan native Cayden Saunders announcing the news via Twitter.

It’s awfully tough to make it as a significant in-game contributor to a program like Ohio State as a walk-on, but it does happen more than you’d think. Across this great country of ours, there are all sorts of stories in big-time college football where a walk-on gets his foot in the door and earns a scholarship. Heck, Baker Mayfield made it all the way to Heisman Winner.

While Mayfield’s story is an extreme outlier, walk-ons can still be an integral part of the program, especially when it comes to game-prep, practice, and special teams.

So maybe, Ohio State just got one of those inspiring stories with the news of on Friday. According to a tweet by the 5-foot, 10-inch, 177-pound running back/middle linebacker out of Northville, Michigan, OSU has a new preferred walk-on. Welcome aboard Cayden Saunders.

There isn’t a profile or ranking on the major recruiting websites, but Saunders was a team captain of his Northville High School team. His dad (Cedric) also played for Ohio State and is now one of Dwayne Haskins’ agents. Also, did we mention we’ve seen walk-ons bust through all the adversity before?

Well, another guy with the last name of Saunders (C.J.) has a little recent history of that.  Congrats Cayden and good luck!

Ohio State 2021 commit Donovan Jackson makes MaxPreps All-American

Ohio State Five-star 2021 offensive lineman commit Donovan Jackson was named to the MaxPreps First-Team All-American squad Friday.

Highly-touted Ohio State 2021 offensive lineman commit Donovan Jackson has been named a MaxPreps First-Team All-American for the 2020 season. He’s actually the only Buckeye commitment to be named to the All-American squad.

But before you get too upset, remember that the pandemic resulted in a lot of kids missing out on their senior football season due to opt-outs or simply not having games. Still, it’s a little surprising others didn’t get on the team — especially for a class that’s currently ranked a consensus No. 2 in the country.

But back to the gut that did make it. Jackson is ranked as the top offensive guard and No. 18 overall prospect in the class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

As an offensive lineman, there aren’t a ton of stats we can throw at you, but Jackson has all the measurables at 6-foot, 4-inches, 308-pounds to compete for a spot in the rotation on the offensive line immediately. He is not a part of the massive numbers of early enrollees in Columbus, but he’s already signed during the early signing period.

Not only does Jackson have the size straight out of the box, but he’s athletic and equally adept and run and pass protection.

Congrats to Jackson for getting this recognition he so justly deserves.

Ohio State will have to wait on 5-star DE J.T. Tuimoloau – won’t sign until later in spring

Ohio State will have to wait for the No. 1 player in 2021 class, J.T. Tuimoloau to make his decision after national signing day.

We told you last week that all signs are pointing to one of the top prospects in the country signing with The Ohio State football team. However, it looks like those plans are being put on hold.

J.T. Tuimoloau is the No. 1 rated player in the nation according to 247Sports and would pair nicely with another stud defensive end in Jack Sawyer who is ranked No. 5 in the nation. Larry Johnson has to be licking his chops just thinking about having these two together. However, locking in Tuimoloau may go longer into the spring than what was hoped for.

Tuimoloau’s father, Ponce Faletoi stated that his son and the rest of the family want to make visits to potential schools to make certain they are making the right decision. Of the top five schools on his trimmed list, visits have already been made to Washington, Oregon, USC, and Alabama. Faletoi said that they want to visit Ohio State for the first time and Alabama one more time as a family before making the final decision.

247Sports still has Tuimoloau as a 100 percent crystal ball to Ohio State, but this has to be an uneasy feeling for the OSU coaching staff as all they can do at this point is wait and see. Here’s to hoping that the experts know what they’re talking about.

Ohio State has four of the top ten commitments in the final 247Sports 2021 class rankings

Ohio State owns four of the top ten commitments in the final 247Sports individual recruiting rankings with maybe another on the way.

We already knew Ohio State had one whale of a 2021 football recruiting class, but the more and more things materialize, the more things start to sink in on the amazing top-end talent that appears set to make its mark on the banks of the Olentangy soon.

The latest comes by way of the final, updated 2021 class individual rankings from 247Sports. According to those, the Buckeyes have four of the top ten prospects committed already, and we all know there could be another on the way as we wait for five-star defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau (No. 1 according to 247Sports) to decide. He currently considered a very heavy lean to Ohio State but is expected to wait to make his decision after the traditional National Signing Day.

But back to the guys already in the fold. The four in the top ten include defensive end Jack Sawyer (5), offensive lineman Donovan Jackson (6), wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (8), and running back TreVeyon Henderson (10). All but Jackson are already enrolled and on campus as well. Keep in mind, these are not the composite rankings, but the evaluation and rankings that 247Sports perform on their own.

Ohio State football’s early enrollees for 2021

Alabama is the only other program that has multiple commitments in the top ten with two. The Tide also has the No. 11 and No. 12 prospects as well. You can’t cook the dinner without the groceries, and OSU is pulling in some gourmet ingredients for the future.

Ohio State 2022 football recruit named player of the year in Kansas

The accolades just keep coming for the 2022 Ohio State recruits. Four-star Dasan McCullough was just named player of the year in Kansas.

You can add another feather in the cap of the 2022 Ohio State football recruiting class. Dasan McCullough has been named the player of the year in the state of Kansas as a high school junior.

While Kansas high school football may not be as revered as in states like Ohio, Texas, California, and Florida, there is still something to be said for being named the best player in your state. I get it… Kansas is known more for its basketball than football, but that doesn’t mean the Sunflower State can’t put out some talent on the gridiron.

McCullough is listed as a four-star athlete, but will most likely play at the linebacker position for the Buckeyes. He finished this past season with 75 tackles, four interceptions, and four forced fumbles while leading Blue Valley North high school to the 6A state championship with a runner-up finish.

McCullough already comes in at 6-foot, 5-inches, and 220-pounds as a junior in high school and has room to grow. He’s ranked as the No. 6 best athlete in the country and No. 54 player overall according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is the son of Kansas City Chiefs running backs coach, Deland McCullough.
