Top ten Ohio State rated quarterback recruits since 2000

Ohio State brought in some heavy-hitting quarterback recruits the past twenty years! Here are the best based on recruiting rankings.

We have been diving into the history of Ohio State football recruiting and despite 247Sports only tracking recruiting rankings since about the year 2000, it will still be interesting to take a dive into the most coveted quarterback high school recruits of the last two decades.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to discuss Art Schlichter and how Woody Hayes changed the offense to get him to Ohio State, or Joe Pickens who went on to ride the bench and transfer to Duke, but there are still some interesting names to check in on.

Also, for this list, we’re not yet counting anything past the 2021 class since 2022 and beyond has yet to sign a national letter of intent. So yeah, Quinn Ewers would be on top of this list if that were so as a perfect 1.000 prospect.

So let’s hammer through the top ten quarterback signings at Ohio State since the recruiting types were measuring all the shenanigans.

BOOM! Ohio State gets commitment from four-star offensive lineman

Ohio State landed another big-time prospect for the 2022 class Friday!

Ohio State has been on quite a tear lately with a July to remember. First, the Buckeyes got a commitment from J.T. Tuiomolau, one of the top-rated players in the 2021 class. Then less than 24 hours later, Brian Hartline was able to secure another top 20 receiver in the 2022 class, with a verbal commitment from Kojo Antwi. Now OSU has added yet another to next year’s class.

Colorado native, George Fitzpatrick, made his intentions known that he will be heading to Columbus from the Rocky Mountains. Fitzpatrick is a four-star lineman and is the second offensive tackle to commit in the class, picking Ohio State over the likes of Oklahoma, Oregon, Florida, and Michigan.

Fitzpatrick becomes the 17th member to commit to the Buckeye’s 2022 class that is currently ranked No. 1 according to 247 Sports class rankings.

Even though Independence Day was almost a week ago, the Booms keep coming for Ryan Day and the Ohio State football team. And there’s still room for more as the summer keeps marching on to a much anticipated fall football season.

Ohio State commitments get in dust up with Penn State prospect on Twitter

Penn State commit taking a page out of Michigan’s inability to not poke the scarlet and gray bear.

Ohio State and Penn State have done battle on the football field for years, and now it has gone to Twitter.

Our friends at Nittany Lions Wire uncovered some barbs flying back and for between a 2022 Penn State commit and two OSU commits from the same class. It all unfolded in front of our eyes on social media.

Ken Talley, a four-star defensive end and Penn State commit from Philadelphia, decided to poke the big, bad Ohio State bear, currently, the only Big Ten team ranked ahead of the Nittany Lions in 247Sports Team Composite Rankings for the 2022 cycle.

After the commitment decision of Reading, PA running back Nicholas Singleton to James Franklin and Penn State, Talley started pecking away on Twitter, saying that no team is currently recruiting like the Nittany Lions. For some reason, he decided to take launch a trolling grenade across the bow of Ohio State in the process.

OK.

Well, those types of things don’t go over very well with the Ohio State brotherhood. His tweet of course got noticed by a couple of Buckeye 2022 commitments, most notably defensive backs Jayaire Brown (a four-star himself) and Ryan Turner.

What’s even funnier about the whole thing is that there were screenshots flying around of Talley sending direct messages to another OSU commit, C.J. Hicks (since deleted), trying to get the linebacker to persuade the Buckeye coaches to offer Talley a scholarship.

Talley has walked those comments back saying he just wanted as many commitments to big-time programs to motivate youngsters in his city, but that sounds a little like sour grapes.

There are so many angles we can take on this, but we’ll bite on just a couple of obvious ones.

First of all, the shot at OSU recruiting efforts is really a shot at Penn State. Talley is basically saying that players are too good at Ohio State, so why commit there. You have a much better time playing in Happy Valley because the talent is not as ‘elite’ (right James Franklin?).

Also, I’m not sure you want to start throwing down challenges to a program that has more than had your number for the last several years. Yeah, there was that one flukey win in 2016 on a blocked kick, but aside from that, Penn State has lost to the Buckeyes eight of the last nine years.

It looks like the PSU commits are starting to take a page out of the Michigan commitments’ book by doing a ton of talking without substance. That hasn’t ended up well in recent years either.

Brian Hartline moves into top spot in recruiter rankings

Is there a better recruiter in college football right now than Brian Hartline?

Ohio State’s Brian Hartline has been worth his weight in gold since being named wide receiver coach in 2019. Since that time, the former Buckeye star has pulled one of the greatest three-year hauls in college football history. Twice he’s nabbed the No. 1 rated receiver in the class and could be a third if Caleb Burton comes back to form after an injury-plagued junior year.

After getting four of the top 21 receivers in the 2022 class to commit to OSU, Hartline is again being recognized for his outstanding work. 247Sports not only ranks recruits but also ranks recruiters. And at the top of the list currently is none other than wide receiver whisperer himself.

This is not Hartline’s first experience in the top spot of recruiting rankings. He finished first in 2020 after signing No. 1 ranked receiver Julian Flemming along with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Gee Scott Jr. who were also the number five and ten rated receivers in the country according to 247Sports composite rankings. That class also included Mookie Cooper who was ranked the No. 16 receiver in the class but has since transferred to Missouri.

Hartline has put together another impressive receiving class for 2022. Assuming all stay committed and sign on the dotted line, the Ohio State receivers coach could be in line for his second National Recruiter of the Year award.

This would be well-deserved recognition for the man who has built “Zone 6” into a household name.

WATCH: J.T. Tuimoloau recruiting video highlights

You’ve heard the news, now get a look at some highlight video of five-star 2021 defensive lineman J.T. Tuimoloau.

By now, you know that Ohio State landed one of the biggest fish in the 2021 recruiting cycle. Some recruiting services say that defensive lineman J.T. Tuimoloau is the No. 1 prospect in the entire 2021 class in fact.

No matter how you look at it, the 6-foot, 5-inches, 277-pounder out of Sammamish, Washington is one of the top prizes in the entire class. And as of Sunday, he’s a Buckeye and headed to Columbus to do some work in a stadium near you soon.

But how much do you know about the skill set of the top-rated defensive prospect to ever commit to the Buckeyes? Sure, you’ve heard about his size, strength, and explosiveness, but have you seen the game film to back it all up?

If not, we’ve got some highlights for you to get a little more acclimated to what Tuimoloau brings to the table thanks to the Recruiting Nut YouTube Channel. Just click on below and enjoy watching these highlights as often as you’d like.

I have to say — watching Tuimoloau go to work sure makes you excited for what he can become at Ohio State under Larry Johnson’s guidance. We won’t have to wait long because he’ll be on campus this fall starting to hone his craft.

J.T. Tuimoloau just committed to Ohio State days ago and already helping recruit

Sometimes the best recruiters are some of the unbelievable talent already committed. Tuimoloau is already going to work!

J.T. Tuimoloau committed to the Ohio State football team days ago, and he’s already making waves. One of the reasons he chose the Buckeyes was the family feel, and now he’s trying to bring others into the fold, starting with a five-star defensive lineman from Texas.

Tuimoloau has been reaching out to Omari Abor, who is the No. 5 defensive lineman in the country, according to 247Sports composite. All crystal ball predictions for Abor are for him to land with Oklahoma, but no predictions have a high level of confidence.

The newest member of OSU’s 2021 recruiting class is wasting no time trying to lure in other big-time recruits. As you can see in the tweet below, Tuimoloau is rolling out the red carpet in hopes of helping solidify an all-time defensive unit in Columbus.

We love to see current recruits and players letting those who are considering Ohio State know why they love it so much. Everyone wants to be part of a family and that’s something that players and coaches have worked hard to build at OSU.

And we kind of think it’s a pretty good selling point too.

Top 20 rated Ohio State football offensive recruits of all time

Who was your favorite of these top offensive Ohio State recruits?

There aren’t many programs that have recruited at the level Ohio State has. Since following recruiting became a big thing, maybe only Alabama has had a better run than the Buckeyes.

Just over the last couple of days, OSU has continued to haul in some of the best prospects. On Sunday, Ohio State nabbed its highest-rated defender of all time, J.T. Tuimoloau, followed by a high four-star prospect at wide receiver, Kojo Antwi on Monday.

We already took a look at the twenty best defensive commitments of all-time in program history, so we thought we’d do the same on the offensive side of the ball on the heels of Antwi’s commitment.

Here are the top twenty offensive commitments in the history of the Ohio State football program.

J.T. Tuimoloau plans to be a multi-sport athlete at Ohio State

Can you imagine Tuimoloau on the basketball court as well?

J.T. Tuimoloau shook up the landscape of college football yesterday when he picked Ohio State as his school of choice. His commitment gives the Buckeyes even more talent to stay in stride with Alabama and Clemson which have won five of the last six national championships.

If you didn’t know, Tuimoloau is a freak athlete. Most know he was a five-star recruit, but were you aware that he is also ranked as the 24th best recruit ever since tracking recruits began in 2000? Not only that, it is said that he could have also been a five-star tight-end prospect if he wanted to play on the offensive side of the ball. Seems like he has more athletic prowess in his pinky finger than most of us have in our entire bodies.

However, football isn’t the only sport the massive defensive end wants to play at the next level, and it looks like Tuimoloau is going to get his shot with the Buckeye basketball team. We had heard that Oregon and Washington had both officially offered Tuimoloau to play basketball, in what some thought were acts of desperation. But it looks like he’ll have the chance to play hoops for the Buckeyes as well.

When Tuimoloau and his family took their official visit to Columbus on June 18, they also met with Chris Holtmann and the basketball staff. Obviously, football will be the priority for Tuimoloau, but Ryan Day and Holtmann will work out the details to transition from the gridiron to the hardwood.

With football being a full-time job and the Buckeyes hoping to still be playing into January, it will be interesting to see how long basketball is a viable option. But hey… if this kid is as talented as people say he is, Coach Holtmann will be happy to have another big body on the court.

With commitment of J.T. Tuimoloau, Ohio State has five of the top 10 prospects in the 2021 class

What an exception top end of the recruiting class for 2021. Is it possible that Ryan Day is a better recruiter than Urban Meyer?

It took a while, but Ohio State got the man it wanted when five-star defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau announced his decision to join the Buckeye program on Sunday. He ends up being the highest-rated defensive prospect to ever commit to OSU, and it caps a truly remarkable top end of the 2021 class.

In fact, with Tuimoloau, the Buckeyes have five of the top 10 prospects in the class according to the 247Sports rankings. That is, by the way, the first time a program has ever pulled that feat off. Although such stats have only really been tracked for about two decades, it’s still quite the accomplishment for the top end of the class.

The commitments in the top 10 of the class are Tuimoloau, Jack Sawyer, Donovan Jackson, Emeka Egbuka and TreVeyon Henderson.

The recruiting will tail off now that Urban Meyer isn’t coach they said. They were wrong. All of them. Now, let’s go out and win a national title or two.

BOOM! Wide receiver Kojo Antwi chooses Ohio State

Ohio State landed another big-time wide receiver prospect! Who would have thought the wins would be even bigger than when Urban Meyer was pulling the strings.

The BOOMs keep coming for the Ohio State football team. Yesterday, highly coveted J.T. Tuimoloau picked the Buckeyes. Today, Brian Hartline got his man: Kojo Antwi announced via his personal Twitter account that he’ll take his talents to Columbus.

Antwi is a four-star prospect and the 16th-ranked wide receiver in the 2022 class, according to 247Sports composite. This gives Ohio State three of the top 21 receivers in the class which include Caleb Burton, Kaleb Brown, and Kyion Grayes.

The crystal ball predictions were split where Antwi would land. Ultimately, the wideout spurned his home state Georgia Bulldogs as well as Texas A&M and others.

What a weekend it’s been for the Buckeyes. Ohio State has the top class for 2022 according to 247Sports class rankings with 15 players committed, including four players with five-star rankings. Ryan Day and the coaching staff are building something special on the banks of the Olentangy.
