Former defensive star to be inducted into Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame

Former defensive star inducted into Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame #GoBucks

The Ohio State has recently announced the former collegiate stars who will be inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame, and a few former football players made the cut. Among those on the football side is Matt Wilhelm.

The Ohio native was originally recruited by John Cooper and was part of the transition to the Jim Tressel era. Wilhelm was a three-year starter at linebacker for the Buckeyes and was named a Butkus Award semifinalist his last season on campus as well as receiving All-American and All-Big Ten honors.

“The Kaiser,” as nicknamed by announcer Brent Musburger, was all over the field during his time in Columbus and even earned the Randy Gradishar Award his last two seasons, which goes to Ohio State’s best linebacker. He led the team in both tackles and tackles for loss in both 2000 and 2002.

His most memorable performance was likely the 2002 BCS National Championship game against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl, where he led the Buckeyes with ten tackles.

Ohio State running backs going into Ohio State Hall of Fame

Ohio State running back gets inducted into Ohio State Hall of Fame #GoBucks

The Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame has announced their 2024 inductees and the list features many impressive names including the always phenomenal, Braxton Miller.

Another former football player that is being inducted that is simply not being talked about enough is Jeff Logan. The North Canton native was a vital part of four Big Ten Championship teams and was the backup to Archie Griffin before taking over the starting running back gig his last two seasons on campus.

Before departing Columbus, Logan was a team caption, All-Big Ten and also an academic All-American. He earned 2,026 yards during his Ohio State career from 1974 through 1977. An extremely underrated running back, I suggest everyone go find his highlight tape on YouTube or find the 1977 Orange Bowl, where his 36-yard touchdown run was a key moment in the win over Colorado.
