Ohio State football offers 2025 Maryland offensive tackle

An offer goes out to an underrated offensive tackle from Maryland

In the 2025 class, Ohio State football is looking to add multiple offensive lineman like it does with virtually every cycle.

Already in the fold is Ohioan Carter Lowe, who is regarded as one of the best players at his position in the country. Although Maryland’s [autotag]Joshua Blackston[/autotag] doesn’t have the same recruiting pedigree as Lowe, he was still offered a scholarship by the Buckeye staff on Wednesday morning.

The 6-foot, 5-inch, 275-pound tackle isn’t currently ranked by any of the major services, but the Ohio State coaching staff saw enough to pull the trigger on a scholarship. This is Blackston’s eleventh reported offer, as the Buckeyes joined Virginia Tech, Boston College, Maryland and others.

It may seem odd, considering Blackston not being ranked and also having an unimpressive offer list, but there have been many instances where Ohio State is the first major school to go after a prospect and many others follow.

Ohio State football makes trimmed down list for 2025 Florida offensive lineman

Ohio State football is one of a dozen schools that 2025 Florida offensive lineman Kaden Strayhorn has narrowed down his list to.

Ohio State football typically goes to Florida each recruiting cycle and returns North with more than a few great prospects.

Last cycle it was wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and Leroy Roker, and in the 2025 class there’s already a commitment from wide receiver Jayvan Boggs. The Buckeyes are looking to bring a few others to Columbus and one of them is offensive lineman [autotag]Kaden Strayhorn[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 3-inch and 285-pound IMG Academy prospect narrowed his list on Saturday to 12 teams. It may seem like a lot for the No. 20 interior offensive lineman and 380th overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but it’s still a good sign for the Buckeyes.

Strayhorn’s ranking may seem like it’s a bit low considering his offer list, so expect him to rise in the rankings once his senior season begins.

Ohio State football offers 2025 4-star running back from Mississippi

The Buckeyes offer one of the best running back in the 2025 class

There is going to be a need for running backs for Ohio State football next season, and it seems like head coach Ryan Day knows it.

TreVeyon Henderson will exhaust his eligibility, while Quinshon Judkins should be off to the NFL as well as an early entry player. Lost both will take a hit off of the Buckeyes depth, so an offer out to Mississippi’s [autotag]Akylin Dear[/autotag] makes perfect sense.

The 6-foot, 1-inch and 200-pound running back is one of the best in the country, ranking as the No. 4 player at his position and 68th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Ohio State currently does not have a running back commit in Dear’s class.

Ohio State will host one of the nations elite wide receivers this spring

The Buckeyes could be getting another elite Florida receiver

Ohio State football does not have a lack of talent at the wide receiver position, and that likely won’t change in the immediate future.

Already in the 2025 class the Buckeyes have a commitment from Jayvan Boggs, and more elite prospects will join him. One of those potential players is Florida’s [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag], a 6-foot, 1-inch and 185-pound star.

Ffrench has set up a few spring visits, with Columbus being one of them. He will head up North at the end of March, his only visit above the Mason-Dixon Line. The receiver is one of the best players in the country, ranking as the No. 3 player at his position and 12th overall according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Previously an Alabama commit, Ffrench reopened the process when Nick Saban announced his retirement. It would be hard to rule out Ohio State, especially considering how well they have recruited his position over the last few years.

NCAA’s restrictions on official visits has finally taken effect

The NCAA just doesn’t want recruits to have fun. #GoBucks

The days of wining and dining recruits is looking like its coming to an end, and Ohio State football, along with other schools across the country, are going to have to make changes to the way they accommodate official visits.

As 247Sports Andrew Ivins reported, the NCAA sent out emails to schools today with much stricter guidelines as to what they can, and can not do with visits. As we have seen in recent years, multiple recruits have shown their hotel rooms littered with swag, which now is a thing of the past.

A big component of the officials has been food. The NCAA is now addressing that, saying that food that is given to the recruits has to be done so in the lobby, not in their rooms.

The photoshoots that we have also seen circulating the internet are also gone, which was one of the more intriguing aspects of a visit. In my eyes, this just doesn’t make sense for the NCAA to crack down on high school players having fun during their visits. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and they’re taking away some of the best aspects of those trips.

Ohio State to host 2025 Maryland defensive end in March

The Bucks will host a big time defensive end in late March

The spring recruiting visit list for Ohio State football continues to get larger at we get closer the weather turning.

You can now add Maryland defensive end [autotag]Trent Wilson[/autotag] to the growing count of high school stars going to visit Columbus. According to a report by On3, the 6-foot, 3-inch and 270-pound pass rusher will visit Ohio State at the end of March.

It will mark over a year since the Buckeyes have offered Wilson a scholarship when the visit will happen, so the relationship has been building for the No. 10 defensive lineman and 109th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Wilson has narrowed down his list to eight schools, clearly the Buckeyes made his list. At the current moment in the 2025 cycle, Ohio State had 8 total commits, and just one, Zahir Mathis, as a defensive end.

Ohio State to host elite linebacker who recently named Buckeyes to top six

A spring visit is on the books for the elite Texas linebacker to Columbus

Less than a week ago, Texas 2025 linebacker [autotag]Riley Pettijohn[/autotag] released his top six schools, with Ohio State making the cut.

Now the nations No. 3 linebacker and 33rd overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings has announced that he will make a spring visit to Columbus. Pettijohn will visit five of the six schools that he named in his top remaining group, with the lone exception being Georgia.

Just reading between the lines, it looked like the Bulldogs will have to make up some ground on the other schools, including the Buckeyes. Now that James Laurinaitis has been elevated to the Ohio State linebackers coach, the pressure will be on to land the elite linebacker.

Ohio State does have a linebacker commit in the 2025 class, Eli Lee, but will be looking at add at least two others to the room in the cycle.

Four-star 2025 tight end set to visit Ohio State

There’s no doubt that Ohio State has been amongst the best in college football at recruiting and developing talent at skill positions.  This is most notably at wide receiver and running back.  However, the Buckeyes have also recruited well at tight end in recent years.

The Buckeyes landed Jelani Thurman, a four-star recruit ranked amongst the best tight ends in the 2023 class.  In the latest class in 2024, Ohio State signed four-star Max LeBlanc and three-star Damarion Witten.

Ohio State has offered nine tight ends thus far in the 2025 class.  This includes Nate Roberts who is rated as a four-star on all four major recruiting resources and the fifth ranked tight end on On3 Industry rankings.

Roberts’ recruitment appears to be trending in the right direction for the Buckeyes as he has set a visit for the Buckeyes’ spring game on April 13.

Roberts, who is also considering Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Baylor amongst others is currently favored to land with the Buckeyes on 247Sports and On3.

Ohio State football trending away from top Alabama offensive tackle

The Bucks have some catching up to do with the Alabama tackle

The Nick Saban effect is still rippling along college football and Ohio State has been trying to capitalize on that.

They already have done it once with the commitment of Alabama cornerback Na’eem Offord and the Buckeyes are trying to do the same with offensive tackle [autotag]Micah DeBose[/autotag].

Head coach Ryan Day has made the 6-foot, 5-inch and 315-pound tackle a priority, even personally visiting him in January to watch him play basketball. The effort is there, but unfortunately for Ohio State, it seems like an uphill battle for DeBose to land in Columbus.

On Monday, 247Sports Anna Adams placed a crystal ball pick for LSU, as it looks like the Tigers are trending for the No. 5 tackle and 28th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The good news is that the Buckeyes will have another shot at impressing DeBose, as Adams also says (subscription required) that Ohio State will get an official visit from him. This one is far from over, but at this point it doesn’t look great for him to end up in playing for the Scarlet and Gray.

Ohio State football mid-February quick recruiting update

The Buckeyes were active on the recruiting trail. #GoBucks

There is never a dull moment for Ohio State football and recruiting high school prospects.

This weekend was another example of that, as the Buckeyes made a quarterback offer, saw multiple prospects set up visits for the spring and a coach getting his well deserved respect.

Here is a quick hitting update on what happened over this past weekend with Ohio State and recruiting. No commitments were gained during this time, but the seeds were being set for some down the road. Recruiting isn’t about a short-term wins, it’s about creating relationships over the long haul.

All prospect rankings are from the 247Sports composite.
