Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on Marquise Brown: ‘He’s a good addition to the offense’

Patrick Mahomes told the media that WR Marquise Brown is “a good addition” to the Chiefs’ offense.

The Kansas City Chiefs are continuing their offseason programs with organized team activities. Wednesday marked the third day of OTAs, and the Chiefs are in the early process of defending their back-to-back Super Bowls.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke to the media after Wednesday’s practice and shared his thoughts on what he has seen from Marquise Brown this offseason.

“I’ve seen it the entire offseason from working in Texas to here,” Mahomes explained. “I remember the first day I told guys like Drue [Tranquill], he [Marquise Brown] tracks the ball well and he can really go. I’m giving him chances down the field, and he’s making the plays happen. The more plays he makes, the more we’ll continue to give him those chances. [He’s] a good addition to our offense.”

Head coach Andy Reid stated that Mahomes and Brown are developing chemistry through the early days of OTAs, and that the pair have stood out in offensive drills.

The Kansas City Chiefs schedule release had many critics wondering how the two-time defending Super Bowl champions can achieve the infamous three-peat. Kansas City is expected to play six days out of the week, with Tuesday being the only game-free day.

On the last day of the first week of organized team activities, the Chiefs opened their practice to the media and addressed the first session along with other topics, including the new schedule.

“It’s the first time in my career that it’s that unique (schedule). So you know how we are. I mean, we don’t really care,” said Reid. “They could give us a Tuesday game. If they want, we’ll be okay there too. We’ll work through it and we’ll play anybody anywhere, whatever. Whatever they want to do, we’re on board.”

Patrick Mahomes shared his thoughts on the new schedule, also taking the high road and using it as fuel to test the team’s unity throughout the year.

“[I] feel like our schedule has gotten crazier and crazier every single year,” Mahomes explained. “It’s just about preparing for the week ahead of you. We know that we’re going to have a lot of primetime games, and we’ve built up the equity to be in those games. Now it’s about how can we find a way to be better than last year at the end of the season.

“We learn from our mistakes from last year, trying to motivate ourselves to get ourselves healthier and faster, and then go out there and win those games because there are a lot of great football teams we play at the end there. I’m trying to be better on Christmas.”

The Chiefs will notably return to play on Christmas Day as the first-ever Netflix-only game. They will be on the road this time to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers as they seek to even their record on that day following last year’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

WATCH: Carson Wentz takes the field at OTAs donning No. 11 jersey

Carson Wentz was spotted wearing his No. 11 jersey during workouts at #Chiefs OTAs on Wednesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs have had some outstanding players wearing the No. 11 jersey over the years.

Most notably, quarterback Alex Smith wore No. 11 for Kansas City from 2013 through 2017, helping to lift the Chiefs back to relevance in Andy Reid’s first years as the team’s head coach.

When Smith left Western Missouri to start his tenure with the Washington Football Team in 2018, wide receiver Demarcus Robinson took over the number before Marquez Valdes-Scantling arrived in Kansas City in 2022.

Now, backup quarterback Carson Wentz is donning the No. 11 jersey with pride and was spotted wearing his Chiefs uniform for the first time at Kansas City’s organized team activities on Wednesday.

While Wentz isn’t likely to see consistent action for the Chiefs in the 2024 regular season, the legacy of the number will live on with him in the preseason and on the sideline as he seeks to become Kansas City’s next great second-stringer.

WATCH: Rashee Rice, Justyn Ross work out at Chiefs OTAs

Check out these videos of Rashee Rice and Justyn Ross working out at #Chiefs OTAs on Wednesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason training program is underway in Western Missouri this week as players and coaches go through organized team activities for the first time since their Super Bowl LVIII victory.

While the return of Patrick Mahomes to the practice field was a sight for the sore eyes of fans desperate for the return of NFL football, two of the Chiefs’ young receivers stole the show on the second day of workouts.

Second-year wideout Rashee Rice and fan-favorite standout Justyn Ross were seen catching balls at practice on Wednesday, marking the beginning of their 2024 campaigns.

Rice has made headlines throughout the offseason for a high-speed car crash in Dallas, Texas that landed him in legal trouble, and his appearance at OTAs took some fans by surprise.

Ross, who has been with the team since 2022, is looking to make an impact for Kansas City next season as he endeavors to make good on the unbelievable talent that earned him a spot on the Chiefs’ roster last year.

Chiefs WR Rashee Rice could avoid charges for alleged nightclub assault

The arrival of wide receiver Rashee Rice to the start of the Kansas City Chiefs’ organized team activities on Monday surprised many of the team’s fans. His off-the-field issues have dominated headlines during Kansas City’s offseason, and the uncertainty surrounding his status for the season was a concern as the Chiefs ramped up their offseason training.

Rice is a suspect in an alleged assault on May 6 at a Dallas nightclub. According to ESPN’s Adam Teicher’s email correspondence with Dallas police: “The reporting party has signed an affidavit of non-prosecution. The investigation is ongoing.”

Kansas City’s second-year receiver still isn’t out of the woods, as he is facing eight felony charges in a six-car crash in Dallas on March 30.

Under the league’s code of conduct, Rice is likely facing a suspension for his involvement in the offseason issues. He can continue working out with the team in OTAs until told otherwise.

The former SMU standout had an impactful rookie season in 2023 and was clutch in the postseason run to Super Bowl LVIII. In the wild-card victory over the Miami Dolphins, Rice set a single-game rookie postseason record with eight catches for 130 yards.

The Chiefs selected Xavier Worthy to join their receiving corps during the first round of the NFL draft in April.

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to kick off their offseason workouts this week as organized team activities get underway at the team’s facilities in Western Missouri.

Chiefs players were seen making their entrance to the training program on Tuesday, walking to the locker room in their workout gear looking ready to get back on the field.

Offseason practices are a crucial part of every team’s training regimen and will be of particular import for Kansas City as the first get-together for Chiefs players after their victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

While players will not don pads for the offseason workouts, the practices will be a great opportunity for the defending champions to hone their craft and stay sharp ahead of the 2024 season, in which they hope to win a third consecutive Super Bowl title.

Rashee Rice to participate in Chiefs’ OTAs amid tumultuous offseason

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice will participate in OTAs with the #Chiefs this week.

Second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice is expected to participate in the Kansas City Chiefs’ organized team activities this week after an offseason that saw him make headlines for all the wrong reasons.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news of Rice’s involvement on Monday, pointing out that players who are expected to face suspension can still participate in offseason programs according to league rules.

Rice was involved in a high-speed car crash in Dallas, Texas earlier in the offseason, which landed him in serious trouble.

Now, he will work alongside his Chiefs teammates to stay fresh through the summer before a 2024 season that is expected to be one of the most exciting in Kansas City’s history.

While Rice made headlines for his participation, other players, particularly the ones who are longshots to make the Chiefs’ 53-man roster, are the more intriguing prospects for fans to keep tabs on heading into Kansas City’s new season.

PFF analyst grades Saints’ offseason so far with a strong B+

How do you grade the New Orleans Saints offseason so far? Pro Football Focus gave them a B-plus, but that’s still second-place in the NFC South:

NFL offseason grades don’t carry much value, but they are a good measuring stick for finding how different teams (and their offseason strategies) are being perceived. So how do the New Orleans Saints stack up against the rest of the NFC South? Their road to the playoffs runs through the division, and it’s worth keeping up with them to see how each squad compares.

Pro Football Focus analyst Trevor Sikkema graded the Saints’ offseason thus far with a B-plus, which was better than the Atlanta Falcons (C-minus) and Carolina Panthers (C-plus), but a little behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (A), who won the division last season. Still, its’ good to see the Saints on the right side of the bell curve. Here’s why he says they earned such a strong grade from Sikkema:

The Saints no longer have Michael ThomasJameis Winston and Andrus Peat from last year’s team, but those losses don’t hurt their overall outlook. On the flip side, they added Chase Young and Willie Gay while extending Tyrann Mathieu.

New Orleans’ top two draft picks, Taliese Fuaga and Kool-Aid McKinstry, can make an impact in Year 1, and I like the flier on Spencer Rattler in the fifth round as a developmental quarterback behind Derek Carr.

And they aren’t finished yet — June 1 is rapidly approaching, at which point the Saints (and every other team) will get a little financial relief from past departures like Thomas and Winston. They’ll also enjoy greater flexibility for players carrying high salary cap hits like Alvin Kamara ($18.5 million) and Taysom Hill ($14.6 million), while making it more viable to trade Marshon Lattimore, even if that appears to be a lower possibility than it was before the NFL draft.

So while the big moves are settled and it doesn’t appear they’ll be adding any starters or hot names, we can’t rule out more movement from the Saints over the summer. They still have some obvious flaws to address on both offense (depth at the skill positions, and a vacancy at left guard) and defense (more pass rush help and another defensive tackle), but this is a roster they clearly feel is ready to compete in the fall. They felt that way last year, too. Maybe this time they’ll get it right.

Two Chiefs arrested in Kansas ahead of OTAs

Two #Chiefs were arrested in Kansas on Friday night, just days before the team kicks off its OTAs.

The Kansas City Chiefs saw their offseason go from bad to worse on Friday night when two of their players were arrested in Kansas, reportedly on drug-related charges.

Harold R. Kuntz of FOX 4 Kansas City posted mugshots of offensive linemen Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick, who he said were arrested in Johnson County for alleged possession of marijuana and THC.

The facts surrounding the case remain unclear, but for the Chiefs, this incident is one in a series of unfortunate events that may affect Kansas City’s ability to compete for a Super Bowl three-peat during the 2024 season.

The first offseason mishap involved second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice, who was charged with eight felonies after a high-speed crash in Dallas left multiple people injured.

Now, Morris and Godrick have found themselves in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons just before organized team activities kick off on Monday.
