Odell Beckham Jr. dunks on everyone who laughed at him for taking Rams salary in Bitcoin

Odell Beckham Jr. took his Rams salary in Bitcoin and 3 years later, he’s calling out people who said it “was dumb”

When Odell Beckham Jr. signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, he decided to take his $750,000 salary in Bitcoin. It was a bold call by the star receiver, especially after the price of Bitcoin had doubled in the four months before he signed his contract.

Three years later, he’s finally getting the last laugh. Bitcoin is at an all-time high, soaring past $90,000 this week, which means Beckham’s bet paid off.

He didn’t pass up the opportunity to dunk on those who doubted him, either. On Wednesday, he posted on X (formerly Twitter) calling out people who said taking his salary in Bitcoin “was dumb,” sharing a screenshot of the crypto’s skyrocketing price.

We have to assume Beckham has held onto his Bitcoin until now based on his post, and he should be thankful he did. When Beckham signed with the Rams in Nov. 2021, the price of Bitcoin hit a peak of around $65,000 before cratering to $16,000 a year later.

Now at all-time highs, Beckham has presumably made about 50% on his investment in the volatile coin, turning $750,000 into more than $1 million.

Look: Cooper Kupp and Odell Beckham Jr. link up before Monday Night Football

Odell Beckham Jr. is facing the Rams for the first time since winning the Super Bowl in LA and he linked up with Cooper Kupp before kickoff

It’s been almost three years since the Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl and for the first time, Odell Beckham Jr. will face the team he hoisted the Lombardi Trophy with. Now a member of the Miami Dolphins, Beckham is set to play against the Rams on Monday Night Football.

Before kickoff, he linked up with Cooper Kupp on the field at SoFi Stadium, reuniting with the Rams’ star receiver. The Rams shared a video of the two wideouts, and even though no audio was captured, it was a cool moment between a couple of Super Bowl champions.

Beckham, of course, tore his ACL in his last game with the Rams, which caused him to sit out the 2022 season. He signed with the Ravens in 2023 before joining the Dolphins this offseason.

In four games this year, he has three catches for 15 yards.

Mike McDaniel not giving up on Odell Beckham: ‘We know he can help us’

Mike McDaniel envisions more involvement for Odell Beckham Jr. after he was “running the best routes” Sunday.

October is coming to a close and Odell Beckham Jr. still hasn’t recorded a reception with the Miami Dolphins.

After starting the year on the physically unable to perform list, Beckham has been active for three games with the Dolphins. But three targets in his first two games fell incomplete and Beckham played only 11 snaps in Miami’s 28-27 loss on Sunday.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said he was encouraged by what he saw in that limited time, though.

“I thought he looked as comfortable as he’s looked,” McDaniel said of Beckham on Monday. “I think Tua [Tagovailoa] sees that on tape and we kind of adjust to what players show us and I thought he was running the best routes, so my expectation would be more involvement.”

But is Beckham willing to continue being patient in an offense that has even found a way to get sixth-round rookie Malik Washington and former practice squad receiver Dee Eskridge involved?

When fans on social media made fun of Beckham for failing to record a reception in his time on the field with the Dolphins, the veteran receiver replied by seemingly implying that he’s been getting open but isn’t getting fed the ball.

“I think it was a step in the right direction, albeit, the box score doesn’t really assess that,” McDaniel said of Beckham. “From our standpoint from the way we look at offense and the way we look at doing our jobs, I thought he did a good job with the opportunities he had, and we’ll continue to push that envelope because we’re trying to max out what type of football team we are and we know he can help us.”

The Dolphins offense had its most productive day in Week 8, but came up a point short against the Cardinals. Tagovailoa targeted eight different receivers Sunday with Tyreek Hill, De’Von Achane, Jaylen Waddle, and Jonnu Smith getting at least six targets each.

Beckham signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Dolphins that included an additional $5.25 million in incentives. He needs to record at least 36 receptions, 566 receiving yards, and/or four touchdowns to receive more than $3 million.

Former LSU receivers continue to dominate the NFL

LSU continues to earn the title of WRU early in 2024.

For years, LSU was known as “DBU.”

The Tigers were synonymous with sending star defensive backs to the NFL. In recent years, former LSU defensive backs have continued to produce, but LSU has claimed the mantle at another position — wide receiver.

Three of the NFL’s six leading receivers are LSU products. [autotag]Ja’Marr Chase[/autotag] leads the NFL with 620 yards. [autotag]Justin Jefferson[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag] rank fifth and sixth with 531 and 513 yards, respectively.

Further down the leaderboard, [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] ranks 14th with 427 yards. He sits eight in catches, despite only playing five games and getting rough quarterback play.

LSU put receivers in the NFL throughout the 2000s and 2010s. [autotag]Dwayne Bowe[/autotag] and [autotag]Brandon LaFell[/autotag] eventually gave way to [autotag]Odell Beckham Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Jarvis Landry[/autotag]. But the group in the league now is deeper and more talented.

Its a young group too, and its set up to lead the NFL for some time. Thomas and Nabers are rookies while Chase and Jefferson are just getting around to their second contracts.

Ohio State has a claim to “WRU” too with Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave and Marvin Harrison Jr. in the league. But that core doesn’t stack up with LSU’s at the moment.

LSU has another promising group of receivers on campus now. [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag] and [autotag]Aaron Anderson[/autotag] both rank in the top 10 in the SEC in receiving yards and will aim to be LSU’s next difference makers at the next level.

Is Odell Beckham Jr. playing today? Injury updates for Dolphins WR

Odell Beckham Jr. was questionable to play Sunday against the Colts. Here are the latest updates.

Odell Beckham Jr. missed the first four games of the year while on the PUP list and made his Miami Dolphins debut in Week 5, but didn’t record a reception.

While two more weeks of getting acclimated had Beckham primed to be a contributor, the receiver popped up on the injury report Friday with a hamstring problem and personal issue that had him questionable to play in Week 7.

Odell Beckham Jr. injury update

Beckham is active Sunday and will play against the Colts. About 90 minutes after Miami posted a video of Beckham arriving to Lucas Oil Stadium, the team did not list him among their inactives.

Dolphins WR depth chart

Keeping Beckham in the lineup is important, because the Dolphins don’t have much depth behind the starring duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Miami is still without River Cracraft, who is on injured reserve, and hasn’t gone much production out of sixth-round rookie Malik Washington or veteran return specialist Braxton Berrios.

Dolphins to activate WR Odell Beckham Jr. from PUP list, per report

Odell Beckham Jr. is set to make his Dolphins debut Sunday.

Three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will make his Miami Dolphins debut Sunday, as the team plans to activate him from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list Saturday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Beckham, 31, was listed as questionable to play against the New England Patriots after he missed all of training camp as well as the first four games of the regular season as he recovered from an offseason procedure.

“We kind of had an understanding of probably not going to be ready,” Beckham told reporters Thursday. “[Mike McDaniel] ensured me that that was fine, just try and get back as fast as you can.”

But just a few days after making his practice debut with the team, Beckham is likely to get slowly worked into the Dolphins offense.

On Friday, McDaniel said the team would plan “modified usage” of Beckham if he plays Sunday and “youd expect the following game there be a little uptick” in play time.

The Dolphins don’t need to be a subsequent roster move to clear space on the 53-man roster after releasing veteran quarterback Tim Boyle on Friday afternoon.

Dolphins release QB Tim Boyle, QB Skylar Thompson to serve as backup

The roster move clears a spot for the Dolphins to activate WR Odell Beckham Jr. or CB Cam Smith from the PUP list.

The Miami Dolphins released quarterback Tim Boyle from their roster Friday.

Boyle, 30, signed with the Dolphins practice squad in August after he was released by the Houston Texans at the end of training camp. After a few weeks with Miami, he was bumped up to the active roster following Tua Tagovailoa’s move to the injured reserve due to a concussion.

It didn’t take long for Boyle to be called into action, as Skylar Thompson suffered a ribs injury in his first start of the season. After taking over in the third quarter, Boyle completed seven of his 13 passes for 79 yards against the Seattle Seahawks.

With Tagovailoa and Thompson unavailable to start in Week 4, the Dolphins passed up Boyle to start Tyler Huntley instead. And despite Huntley’s struggles in a loss to the Titans, the Dolphins again named the newcomer their starter in Week 5.

Now it’s Thompson who will serve as the backup for Huntley on Sunday against the New England Patriots.

The reason for the move is likely to make room on the roster for one of the team’s PUP list members to get activated. Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and cornerback Cam Smith are both listed as questionable for Sunday, but aren’t currently members of the active roster and don’t count against the team’s 53-man roster limit.

Jordan Poyer ruled out, 3 Dolphins questionable vs. Patriots in Week 5

Odell Beckham Jr. is listed as questionable and could make his Dolphins debut on Sunday.

The Miami Dolphins will be without safety Jordan Poyer, but will have running back Raheem Mostert back in action Sunday against the New England Patriots in Week 5.

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. may make his Dolphins debut, as he’s one of three players for Miami who is questionable to play.

Both Beckham and cornerback Cam Smith are still technically members of the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, but can be moved to the active roster at any point in the next three weeks. Once they’re activated, a player (or two) will need to be released from the 53-man roster to make room.

The other questionable player, quarterback Skylar Thompson, started for the Dolphins in Week 3, but was the emergency third quarterback last week against the Tennessee Titans.

The list of injured Patriots is much longer with linebacker Sione Takitaki doubtful to play, and 12 New England players listed as questionable. That includes safeties Jabrill Peppers and Kyle Duggar, and cornerbacks Marcus Jones and Jonathan Jones, all of whom are listed as starting members of the Patriots secondary.

Jordan Poyer sits out, 9 Dolphins limited in Wednesday practice

The Dolphins have several players dealing with injuries, including starting safety Jordan Poyer.

The Miami Dolphins held safety Jordan Poyer out of practice Wednesday due to the shin injury he suffered in a Week 4 loss.

“I wouldn’t rule him out or in for this game [vs. the Patriots],” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said of Poyer on Tuesday. “He’s a warrior that I know will play through anything that he’s able to play through so we’ll give his body a little time and he’ll be diligently in the training room trying to be a part of this New England game.”

Also out of action was Jaelan Phillips, who revealed Wednesday that his knee injury will require season-ending surgery. Additionally, there were nine Dolphins who were limited in practice.

Listed, but not limited Wednesday was wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who is practicing for the first time since signing with the Dolphins earlier this year. He spent all of training camp and the first four weeks on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and now can be activated on to the roster any time in the next three weeks.

Giants’ Malik Nabers in rarefied territory after hot start

New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers is producing at a historic rate that has him in rarefied territory.

If it seems like New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers is doing something special this season, your eyes are not deceiving you.

He is.

Although Nabers has only played four games as a pro, he is shattering records and quickly becoming one of the top wideouts and playmakers in the NFL.

Since 2010, only one rookie wide receiver has averaged more receiving yards per game and more first downs per route run than Nabers — former Giants first-round pick Odell Beckham Jr., who broke onto the scene in 2014.

As you can see, Nabers is ahead of a who’s who of elite wide receivers such as Justin Jefferson, Puka Nacua, Ja’marr Chase, Julio Jones, Michael Thomas, and others. Only Beckham is above him.

That is rarified air. For those who criticized his choice to wear the uniform number of a retired player, you must rethink your stance. This is a special player who could find himself one day among the pantheon of Giants greats.

Nabers leads the NFL in pass targets (53) and receptions (35) and is second in receiving yards (386). The former LSU standout is the first player in NFL history to record at least 25 receptions and three touchdowns in his first four NFL games.

Nabers, if he plays 17 games (he is currently dealing with a concussion), is on pace for 225 targets, 148 receptions, 1,640 yards, and 13 touchdowns.

All would be franchise records except the touchdown mark, which he would share with Beckham (2015) and Homer Jones (1967).
