Odell Beckham buys stake in Mexican soccer club, Major League Pickleball team

Former New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. has purchased a stake in a Mexica soccer club and a Major League Pickleball team.

One of the bigger stories to emerge toward the end of the regular was wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., his health, and where he might end up signing.

Rumors of a potential reunion between Beckham and the New York Giants were strong from the start. They became further amplified when Big Blue failed to acquire a wide receiver at the trade deadline.

But the story surrounding Beckham’s return simmered as the season came to a close. Speculation arose that OBJ wasn’t healthy enough to play despite being medically cleared.

The stardom connected to Beckham’s name will draw attention whenever he does return. In the meantime, OBJ made news this week by purchasing a stake in a Mexican Soccer Club and a Major League Pickleball expansion franchise.

Beckham is an international celebrity and has always had a connection to the sport of soccer from his playing days as a child. He visited the Tottenham Hotspur FC of the English Premier League back in 2015 with some other NFL players to promote the NFL’s International Series.

Meanwhile, Pickleball is growing in fame and Beckham is no slouch when it comes to riding the wave of trends and investing well.

Roger Lewis Jr. warns Giants against pre-playoff yacht party

Ex-New York Giants WR Roger Lewis Jr., who was in the famous 2016 boat photo, urges current players not to make the same mistakes they did.

The New York Giants punched their NFC Playoff ticket on Sunday, defeating the Indianapolis Colts, 38-10, at MetLife Stadium.

For the Giants, it will be their first playoff appearance since 2016.

Fans may vividly remember that 2016 playoff run because of the controversy leading up to it and the controversy in its aftermath.

The week prior to taking on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, several Giants players, including wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard and Roger Lewis Jr., joined rapper Trey Songz and several others for a yacht cruise in Miami.

A picture from the cruise leaked online, went viral and gained infamy. Many believe it also placed a curse on the franchise as they endured a half-decade of misery after the leak.

That “curse” began with a 38-13 drubbing at the hands of Green Bay followed by Odell punching a hole in the Lambeau Field wall.

Following Sunday’s win over the Colts, Lewis Jr. tweeted out the picture with a warning to current Giants players: Don’t repeat history.

Although Lewis’ tweet was tongue-in-cheek, it does exemplify the dark shadow that moment cast over those players and the team. Cruz once admitted that it will haunt him for the rest of his life.

You can bet that Brian Daboll’s crew won’t make the same mistake Ben McAdoo’s crew did. Whether or not that will lead to a wildcard victory remains to be seen.

Odell Beckham’s comment about Saquon Barkley adds fuel to rumor fire

Odell Beckham Jr. made an interesting comment about Saquon Barkley on Thursday which has only added to the speculation about his future.

The rumors of a potential New York Giants-Odell Beckham Jr. reunion have been a rollercoaster for months now. When it came down to the final teams, the Giants were one of the few that Beckham visited last week.

The Beckham saga took another turn last week when it was reported that an NFL executive had concerns over Beckham’s health. OBJ is, of course, coming off a torn ACL in the Super Bowl.

As Beckham’s decision lingers, it’s leaving Giants fans at the edge of their seat.

OBJ was a guest on Thursday Night Football’s “The Shop” and he shared his thoughts on unfinished business between him and Saquon Barkley.

“I’ll say this but it doesn’t mean anything. I don’t feel like Saquon Barkley and I got to do what we were supposed to do,” Beckham said.

There were big hopes for the Barkley/Beckham combo but it was short-lived after the Giants traded OBJ to the Cleveland Browns.

Beckham claimed he wanted a multi-year deal with whatever team he ends up signing with, which could play into the Giants’ favor given their needs at wide receiver and the lack of talented expected to be available in free agency. Buffalo and Dallas, by contrast, are in win-now mode.

Beckham may have also hinted at waiting until the postseason to join a team.

For now, the rollercoaster continues. Beckham has yet to make a decision on his future and the Giants play on.

Odell Beckham knows Giants fans would be electric if he re-signed

Odell Beckham Jr. told Sterling Shepard that he knows New York Giants fans would be electric if he re-signed with the team.

With free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. making the rounds seeking a new suitor for his services, several New York Giants players have been vocal about their feelings towards a reunion.

Running back Saquon Barkley, one of the few Giants remaining on the roster from the days Beckham wore the Blue, had this to say on Friday.

“I mean, I would be lying if I said having Odell in the locker room wouldn’t help this team. Obviously, we’re in a great spot, but knowing Odell personally just the energy that he brings, the swagger that he plays with, the play making ability that he has, he’s one of my favorite players to play with or even watch,” Barkley said. “He’s a heck of player. The moment he steps in the locker room, or he steps on the team he automatically makes that team better.

“You can tell with the type of press he’s getting throughout the whole free agency, it’s not even free agency and he’s getting all this press because he’s that meaningful, he’s that type of player. I’ve been vocal, I would love for him to come back not just because of football. That’s my brother, that’s one of my best friends. But at the end of the day, for me, I just want him to continue to rehab, continue to get better and wherever he picks hopefully he’s happy and he picks the best thing for him and his family.”

Wide receiver Sterling Shepard, who is currently on IR, which is one of the reasons the Giants are short on offensive weapons, was also in favor of Beckham’s possible return.

Beckham left the Giants’ facility on Friday without a deal but that means little. He wants to meet with all teams seeking his services before making any decisions.

“We had dinner with him last night,” head coach Brian Daboll said on Friday. “We had a good visit. Really other than that, I have nothing else to add.”

Beckham is expected to meet with the Buffalo Bills this weekend and the Dallas Cowboys early next week.

Odell Beckham Jr. leaves Giants visit without a deal

Odell Beckham Jr. has concluded his visit with the New York Giants and will now meet with the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys.

Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. took a private flight into New York on Thursday and then met with New York Giants brass over dinner.

“We had dinner with him last night. It was a good visit,” head coach Brian Daboll said. “Had a great steak.”

Beckham returned on Friday morning for a physical and then wrapped up his two-day visit with the Giants after meeting with a few more people at the team facilities. He ultimately left without a contract.

That should come as little surprise as Beckham intends on fulfilling his previous commitments, including a weekend visit with the Buffalo Bills. From there, he’ll head down to Arlington to meet with the very anxious Jerry Jones and his Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants are still considered long-shots to land Beckham with the Cowboys remaining the favorites. But it wasn’t that long ago that OBJ even visiting with the Giants seemed like a long-shot.

At the end of the day, home is where the heart is. And Beckham’s heart might very well be in East Rutherford.

Odell Beckham Jr. visit comes four years after last game with Giants

WR Odell Beckham Jr. will visit with the New York Giants on Thursday and Friday, four years to the day of his last game with the team.

Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will arrive in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Thursday for his official meeting with the New York Giants.

Beckham will visit with the team on both Thursday and Friday as he undergoes a physical and talks with general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll. He is also expected to have dinner with several members of the front office.

Additionally, Beckham intends to visit the home of his close friend, Sterling Shepard, during his time in town.

“I want to try to keep him here, yeah. That’s the plan,” Shepard told reporters on Wednesday.

Both Shepard and running back Saquon Barkley said they’d make their pitch to Odell, but acknowledged they’d support him no matter what his final decision was.

Meanwhile, the date of Beckham’s visit holds its own significance. On December 2, it will be exactly four years to the day OBJ played his last game as a member of the Giants.

During that game, Beckham hauled in three receptions for 35 yards and one touchdown, and threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to fellow wide receiver Russell Shepard. The Giants defeated the Bears, 30-27, in overtime.

After meeting with the Giants, Beckham will head up to Buffalo to visit the Buffalo Bills. He’s then scheduled to meet with the Dallas Cowboys on December 5.

Ideally, and assuming his knee checks out, the Giants shouldn’t let Beckham leave the building.

Odell Beckham Jr. escorted from plane; visit with Giants remains on schedule

Odell Beckham Jr. was escorted from an American Airlines plane on Sunday during a bizarre scene, but it won’t impact his free agent visits.

Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who is scheduled to make visits with several teams this week, was escorted from a plane destined for Los Angeles on Sunday morning.

The Miami-Dade Police Department were dispatched to what they called a “medical emergency” on American Airlines Flight 1228 from Miami to LAX.

American Airlines released a statement saying that a passenger had failed to follow crew member instructions and refused to fasten their seatbelt. Miami-Dade Police also released a statement saying the passenger appeared to be coming in and out of consciousness.

MDPD identified that passenger as Odell Beckham.

Video of Beckham’s departure was captured by another passenger, who expressed frustration with the NFL superstar.

Beckham had sent several curious tweets early on Sunday, which coincided with the timing of the incident.

Beckham was not charged or cited and his attorney, Daniel Davilier, later released a statement on behalf of his client. In it, they accused the flight attendant of being overzealous and noted that Beckham had simply fallen asleep.

Despite the airline snafu, Beckham’s visit with the New York Giants, as well as the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills, remains on schedule.

If nothing else, this is unfortunate timing for Beckham, who once carried with him a reputation for being immature and controversial. However, those days do seem to be in his past, but this may still give some pause.

Odell Beckham Jr. cleared, will visit Giants on Thursday

Odell Beckham Jr. has been medically cleared and will make his first free agent visit on Thursday with the New York Giants.

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., returning from a torn ACL, has been cleared to play and will begin making his free agents visits on Thursday.

First up? The New York Giants.

Beckham will meet with general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll before taking scheduled visits with the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills.

Beckham plans to visit the Giants on Thursday and Friday, sources informed of his plans say. After the weekend, Beckham will meet with with the Cowboys on Dec. 5. He’ll also visit the Bills.

While there are additional teams that could be added to the mix, those visits are the only confirmed ones at this point, sources say.

The Giants have been extremely tight-lipped about meeting with Beckham, while the other teams have openly recruited him. Jerry Jones, in particular, has been quite vocal.

The Giants selected Beckham in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft and the most productive years of his career came in East Rutherford. However, there was a falling out with then-general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur, which led to OBJ’s trade to the Cleveland Browns in March of 2019.

But times have changed and a new regime is in charge. And despite limited cap resources, the Giants are in desperate need of a No. 1 wide receiver with their playoff hopes in flux.

Unlike competitors, Giants won’t discuss Odell Beckham Jr. publicly

While many of their competitors sweet talk Odell Beckham Jr. in public, the New York Giants continue to keep their recruitment in-house.

The New York Giants are still in the Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes but are not openly discussing the possibility of a reunion with their former All-Pro wide receiver.

“I keep that in house right now. That’s kind of where we’re at with it,” head coach Brian Daboll told reporters on Friday. “I’m going to talk to (general manager) Joe (Schoen) here. Joe is out on the road at some schools. So, Joe and I will reconvene later today.”

The rumors of a reunion have been circulating for the last several weeks but the Giants have been publicly silent about it, even after reports of a meeting with Beckham surfaced.

They are reportedly one of a half-dozen teams Beckham is considering signing with. He has apparently recovered from the knee injury he suffered in the Super Bowl in February as a member of the Los Angeles Rams. Beckham would naturally have to pass a physical for any two who wishes to sign him.

The Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers have all been linked to Beckham, as well as the Giants.
