Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Ohio State Buckeyes opening odds

Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Ohio State Buckeyes @tipico opening odds #GoBucks

On October 22, the Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0) will kick off their seventh game of the season against the Iowa Hawkeyes (3-3) at 12:00 p.m. ET in Columbus, Ohio. This series has been very interesting with the home team going 5-2 straight-up, but 3-3-1 against the spread during the last seven contests.

Our friends at Tipico, our official odds provider, currently have Ohio State listed as a mighty large 29.5-point favorite with the total points set at 49.5. This seems like a large spread, but Ohio State has done well in this series winning 13 of the last 15 match-ups and going 9-5-1 against the spread during that time.

It should be noted that the last time these two teams met was in 2017 and our beloved Buckeyes lost 55-24 despite being an 18-point favorite at the time.

Heisman Odds, Week 7: Hello, Hendon Hooker

Hendon Hooker’s big performance against Alabama has helped the Tennessee QB climb the board.

Each week this college football season, BetFTW will take a look at the 2022 Heisman Trophy race and break down the contenders. Check back each Monday as the best college football players in the country jockey for position with both oddsmakers and bettors. Preseason odds can be found here and Week 6 here

Every year, there’s talk about a player having their “Heisman moment”. Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker may have had his on Saturday as he threw for 385 yards and completed five touchdown passes to help the Vols lock down their first win over Alabama since 2006. That’s the kind of performance that will get everyone’s attention, and that came through in his Heisman odds jumping from +1400 in Week 6 to +600 in Week 7.

He’s still chasing Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, however.

Let’s get to it. (Odds via BetMGM)

ESPN significantly changes predictions for Notre Dame following awful loss

The computers were maybe even more unimpressed with Notre Dame against Stanford than ND fans were.

Last week it appeared despite early turbulence, that everything was at least pointed in the right direction for Notre Dame, who had won three-straight games and had a favorable schedule coming up.

Then Stanford, who hadn’t beaten an FBS opponent in over 12 full months, came to South Bend and handed the Irish one of their worst losses in recent memory.

Obviously things are not all OK after this for Notre Dame, who now sits at 3-3 overall and having trips to unbeaten Syracuse, and one-loss USC remaining while unbeaten Clemson is due in South Bend the first weekend of November.

ESPN updated their Football Power Index with the latest results and Notre Dame understandably fell.

How does FPI see the Irish faring in the second half of 2022?

Let’s just say the computers were maybe even more unimpressed with Notre Dame against Stanford than Fighting Irish fans were.

Slumping Jaguars open as favorite against streaking Giants

The Jaguars haven’t won a game in October, but still opened as the favorite against the 5-1 Giants in Week 7.

The Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t won a game in October and are in the midst of a three-game losing streak. The New York Giants are on a three-game win streak and improved to 5-1 with a win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Yet, it’s the Jaguars that opened as 2.5-point favorites for a Week 7 matchup at home against the Giants.

A rule of thumb is that oddsmakers add a three-point advantage for hosting teams, so that would translate to the Giants being slight favorites in neutral territory. The Jaguars lost their last home game, 13-6, against the previously winless Houston Texans.

Evidently, the Giants still haven’t managed to win over the betting community, despite winning as an underdog in four of the first six weeks of the 2022 season, tying an NFL record in the process.

The Week 5 matchup against the Texans is the only other time this season that the Jaguars were favorites. The point total is set at 42.5.

Zach Wilson’s dad had the most wholesome message about his son playing Aaron Rodgers

“Sometimes dreams do come true.”

For a second-year quarterback like Zach Wilson, he’s potentially only at the beginning of a career full of milestones and awe-inspiring moments. That doesn’t mean his parents — and rightfully so — won’t revel in every step of such a journey.

On Sunday, before Wilson’s Jets got set to take on Aaron Rodgers’ Packers (-7.5), Wilson’s dad shared a touching message on Twitter about his son realizing his “dream.” The matchup with the four-time MVP Rodgers — who a 23-year-old Wilson apparently grew up watching — is what inspired the wholesome reaction/reflection from Mike Wilson.

If you’re a parent and you read this message — you can undoubtedly relate to the obvious pride oozing out of it:

Oh, man. Is someone cutting onions? Please cut that out.

Mike Wilson will probably be beaming with pride all day as he watches his son try to beat a living NFL legend. And I don’t blame him.

Prince’s NFL Player Props: Aaron Rodgers, Gabe Davis and more Week 6 prop picks

NFL Week 6 player prop bets.

Laugh at my pain.

That was the title of Kevin Hart’s third comedy stand-up special, and it’s beginning to feel like my life when it comes to picking player props.

These picks are going to be the end of me. And to make the joke worse, I do well on the picks I don’t include in this weekly post – like this one from the Thursday night game.

Either way, we’re back after a season-worst 1-5 last week. I would say it can’t get any worse, but now that would be a lie. Just take the opposite of my picks, and you might come up.

Week 5: 1-5

2022 record: 8-21

Latest NASCAR championship odds for the remaining 8 drivers in the 2022 playoffs

Eight drivers and four races left in the 2022 NASCAR season. See their latest championship odds going into the Round of 8.

The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs are now down to just eight remaining drivers competing for the 2022 championship at Phoenix Raceway in November.

The playoffs began with 16 drivers, and after three races, the bottom four (Kevin Harvick, Austin Dillon, Kyle Busch and Tyler Reddick) were eliminated. And after the Round of 12 ended last weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Roval with Christopher Bell taking the checkered flag, four more drivers (Kyle Larson, Daniel Suárez, Austin Cindric and Alex Bowman) were cut from the playoff field.

So now, we’ve got eight left: Chase Elliott, Joey Logano, Ross Chastain, William Byron, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe, along with Bell.

ESPN updates predictions for remaining Notre Dame regular season games

Will Notre Dame beat either Clemson or USC?

Notre Dame has been a prime example of a team improving as the season has gone as the Irish have won three straight games following their 0-2 start to the year.  As the Irish have played better the computer models that are based solely on numbers and statistics instead of the old “eye-test” or anything of the sort are taking notice.

ESPN’s power ratings model, known as Football Power Index, was updated this week and now has Notre Dame listed as a top-15 team nationally, a far cry from where they were just a month ago.

Here is the updated chances FPI gives Notre Dame in each of their seven remaining regular season games following the 28-20 victory over BYU in the Shamrock Series contest.FPI Odds of Notre Dame win: 92.7% (Down 0.4 from last week)
