Ochocinco challenges Bobby Wagner to Oklahoma drill

Watch Ochocinco and Wagner engage in some friendly trash talk and competition.

Seahawks great Bobby Wagner was a guest on Inside the NFL earlier this week and had some fun with another legend of the game – six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Johnson.

Wagner is set to become a free agent in a few weeks, and what to do with him will be one of the toughest decisions the front office will have to make this offseason.

Chad Johnson had some late-night advice for Saints WR Rashid Shaheed

Chad Johnson had some advice for Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, urging him to call his QB in the middle of the night just like “Ochocinco” used to:

Leave it to Chad Johnson to share some advice with the next generation of NFL stars — after 1:00 a.m. “Ochocinco” shared some words of wisdom with New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed on social media, advising the second-year pro about strengthening communication with his quarterback through psychological warfare.

“You up right now, call (Derek) Carr while heā€™s sleeping (and) say ā€œIā€™m Openā€ then hang up,” Johnson wrote to Shaheed, “You have to play psychological warfare (and) it will remain prevalent during games subconsciously, it worked for me.”

This is an anecdote Johnson has recounted before; in 2020, he recalled calling his old Cincinnati Bengals coaches Marvin Lewis and Hue Jackson in the middle of the night to tell them the same thing.

“Oh my God, all the time. All the time,” Jackson reminisced during an appearance on the I Am Athlete podcast. “And wanting to know what the game plan is, at two in the morning. I’m like, ‘Chad, Chad, we have meetings coming up in three hours, four hours.'”

The strategy worked. Johnson averaged 8.8 targets per game across his Bengals career and earned six Pro Bowl nods, twice making the All-Pro team. Even if it left his coaches and quarterbacks a little drowsy. Maybe Shaheed can make use of it, too.

All jokes aside, Johnson has been one of the biggest cheerleaders for the Saints receiving corps on a national stage. He was quick to identify Michael Thomas as a superstar before he won the Offensive Player of the Year award in 2019, and he set a very high bar for Derek Carr after he landed in New Orleans. Chris Olave is a player he’s called one of the fastest he’s ever seen with “an exceptional brake system,” so it’s safe to say he likes what he’s seeing from Shaheed and his Saints teammates after one of their better performances a week ago.

Chad Ochocino compares Marquez Callaway to former Giants All-Pro

Chad Ochocino is all in on Marquez Callaway, compares Saints receiver to former Giants All-Pro Victor Cruz:

Chad Johnson may know a thing or two about great wide receiver play. Beyond his own lengthy NFL career, the six-time Pro Bowler called “Ochocinco” has seen plenty of talented players enter the league. And the latest to catch his eye is New Orleans Saints second-year pro Marquez Callaway.

And Johnson has an idea of who Callaway reminds him of. Following Callaway’s five-catch, 104-yard performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night (with two long touchdown scores tacked on for good measure), Johnson compared the Saints’ No. 1-wearing wideout to former New York Giants undrafted free agent Victor Cruz, who wore No. 3 when he broke out with three touchdown receptions against the Jets back in 2010.

That’s not bad company to join. Cruz was a Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro in 2011 and 2012, respectively, averaging an impressive 15.0 yards per catch in his 70-game career. He won a Super Bowl ring with them, too, which sets a high bar for Callaway to chase. It’ll be exciting to see if Callaway can meet the same heights Cruz once found; if so, maybe Johnson can add prophet to his self-penned Hall of Fame candidacy.

We’ve embedded his full comments below, but be advised that Johnson’s tweet contains coarse language.

Chad Ochocinco says heā€™d play for Saints for ā€˜a company car and a place to stayā€™

Chad Johnson made several Pro Bowls and a great nickname in his NFL career, and the 43-year old ā€œOchocincoā€ is joking about a Saints comeback at a strong discount:

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbyahgz6p2j3xp7 player_id=none image=https://saintswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

There havenā€™t been many self-promoters in the NFL like Chad Johnson. The man called ā€œOchocincoā€ also happens to be a big fan of Michael Thomas, so news of the All-Pro wide receiverā€™s offseason ankle surgery has Johnson looking at the New Orleans Saints a little differently.

Of course the 43-year old isnā€™t seriously looking to come out of retirement; heā€™s busy enjoying the best breakfasts Miami can offer when he isnā€™t joining celebrity boxing matches. But it doesnā€™t speak well of the Saints receiving corps as it stands that Johnson could joke about this and get anything but laughs in response.

Hopefully the Saints find some help soon. Hopefully they can find someone younger than Johnson, though they struggle to find anyone as charismatic.

Ochocinco goes turncoat: Biggest Michael Thomas fan cheering for Bucs over Saints

Chad Johnson has been a longtime fan of Saints WR Michael Thomas, but “Ochocinco” is pulling for the Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”CTcajPMRlC-1030047-7498″]

This one hurts: Ocho’s not loyal. One of the best-established fans of New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas will be switching up on the black and gold during Sunday night’s matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where Chad Johnson, infamously “Ochocinco” of the Cincinnati Bengals, has declared his support for the home team.

Ochocinco shouted out the Buccaneers receiving corps of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, Scotty Miller, and Jaydon Mickens from his official Twitter account this weekend, also sharing his ticket stub for his seat at Raymond James Stadium so they can all link up after the game (all of them observing COVID-19 guidelines, assuredly).

It’s disappointing to say the least. Johnson had been an outspoken fan of Thomas for years, having attended their 2018 showdown with the Los Angeles Rams at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Thomas’s invitation. He also spent the 2019 offseason waxing poetic about his admiration of the receiver’s abilities, and followed that up by getting in on the “Thomas for MVP” campaign early on.

But now he’s hopped onto another bandwagon, instead siding with Tom Brady’s weapons. We’ll see how it works out for him on Sunday night.

Ochocinco sends plenty of praise Tre’Davious White’s way

Former Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson Ochocinco sends praise the way of Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White on Twitter.

Former Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson, aka Ochocinco, and Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White had some prior exchanged messages on social media via their Twitter accounts. The two went back and forth about if White could cover Johnson. They appeared to be joking around in a friendly manner but Johnson mentioned White once again on social media recently.

This time it was nothing but praise.

Over the weekend, Johnson had a question sent his way from a Bills fan asking if White will stay in Buffalo beyond his current contract. White is currently slated to be with the Bills through the 2021 season as the team picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.

Johnson didn’t exactly answer the question but did call White one of the best of the best and said he should be “compensated as such.” Here’s his message:

All indications show that Johnson is probably correct and we will see that happen with White, and most likely in Buffalo. White’s a cornerstone piece of the Bills’ secondary, one of the most dominant in the NFL. The secondary, led by White and safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer since 2017, is perhaps the biggest reason why Buffalo’s defense has landed in the top-three overall defenses in the NFL in recent seasons.

And good news for White, Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane has often gone on record stating his desire to “take care of” the Bills’ own players, aka, getting them re-signed with the team. That’ll cost the club a big pay day, one which is likely well worth it.

But there’s further evidence that Johnson likes what he sees in White. Both on the field and on… the ice.

White has his famous “goalie academy” in Buffalo. The team and White like to have fun saying the defender is also a goalie in hockey since the Bills and NHL’s Buffalo Sabres share the same co-owners in Terry and Kim Pegula. This past weekend The Checkdown shared a video of White plugging the “Tre White goalie academy” during his intro on primetime.

On his own Twitter account, Johnson also responded to The Checkdown‘s video and said “my dawg multi-talented.” Big time love right there.

Stefon Diggs burns Ochocinco in workout with several NFLers in attendance

Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs takes on Chad Ochocinco Johnson in workout video.

Vikings WR Adam Thielen, former Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco, & Vikings WR Stefon Diggs via Chris Tomasson on Twitter.com.

Former Bengals great Chad Johnson aka Ochocinco found his way onto the football field with one of the newest members of the Bills, wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

Things didn’t go so well for Ochocinco.

He posted a video of him taking his talents to the defensive side of the ball, trying to cover Diggs while Redskins quarterback Dwaye Haskins was firing out passes.

Diggs got the best of Ochocinco along the sideline, even he admitted it:

Here’s a video of the juke along the sideline by Diggs on Johnson:

Along with Haskins, Ochocinco and Diggs, a few others appeared in some photos at the workout, including Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith and former Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown.

Tre’Davious White, Ochocinco have Twitter exchange

Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White is an All-Pro on the first and an All-Pro jokester off of it.

Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White is an All-Pro on the first and an All-Pro jokester off of it. Some of the same can be said for former Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson.

On Wednesday, White and Johnson exchanged some fun jabs at least other on Twitter. Also known as “Ochocinco,” the wideout shared a video of him on the social media site. White had a response that said he’d have no problem covering Johnson:

White had since deleted the tweet, but once on the internet, always on the internet, Tre. Interestingly, Johnson responded with a nice comeback, one which he didn’t delete:

Here’s the full Ochocinco message, with Tre’Davious adding that he’s interested in actually finding out who could cover who:

Maybe one day we’ll find out how this one turns out. Could be fun.
