What is the Houston Texans’ record in Ring of Honor games?

The Houston Texans are inducting J.J. Watt in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. What is Houston’s record in Ring of Honor games?

The Houston Texans announced Monday their plans to induct former defensive end J.J. Watt into the team’s Ring of Honor on Oct. 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Watt will be the third member of the organization to have his name enshrined inside NRG Stadium. Receiver Andre Johnson was inducted in 2017, and late founder Bob McNair was inducted in 2019.

One of the questions Houston sports fans will want to know is how the Texans have fared when inducting key members into the Ring of Honor. Everybody wants a win on those days, but sometimes it doesn’t come to pass.

Here is a look at the Texans’ record in Ring of Honor games.

Houston Texans take No. 6 in Forbes’ list of most profitable sports franchises worldwide

The Houston Texans are the sixth-most profitable sports franchise in the world according to the latest valuations from Forbes.

The Houston Texans may have been atrocious on the field, but their earnings away from the game have been world class.

According to Mike Ozanian from Forbes, the Texans are the sixth-most profitable sports franchise in the world with $356 million banked over the past three years.

The NFL team at the northern terminus of Interstate 45 was the most profitable with $1.2 billion. The New England Patriots were second at $623 million. Among NFL teams, the Texans are the third-most profitable.

Coming in at No. 3 overall on the list was Premier League’s Tottenham Hotspur at $414 million. Manchester United was No. 5 at $403 million.

Across the rest of the NFL, the New York Giants were No. 9 at $333 million. The Los Angeles Rams were No. 11 at $318 million. Washington — still owned by Dan Snyder — came in No. 13 at $290 million. The Chicago Bears were No. 15 at $288 million. The Jacksonville Jaguars were No. 17 at $281 million.

All of the NFC East’s teams were represented on the list.

Report: Texans uniform redesign is ‘on track’

The Houston Texans are reportedly “on track” with their uniform redesigns.

The Houston Texans are on schedule with their uniform redesigns.

According to Greg Bailey from ABC 13 [KTRK-TV], the Texans have three new uniforms coming and are still on track to have the uniforms in time for the 2024 season.

Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair and Texans Foundation vice president Hannah McNair indicated that there is a third uniform referred to as “the other.”

It is anyone’s guess as to what the third uniform would be. Houston sports fans may still hold out hope that the Texans in some way honor the Houston Oilers with a color scheme reminiscent of the “Luv Ya Blue” era.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans excited to kick off offseason program

New coach DeMeco Ryans is enthused about the Houston Texans kicking off their offseason program as they gear up for the 2023 season.

One of the advantages the Houston Texans have in deploying a new coaching staff is a two-week head start on the offseason program.

The NFL allows teams with first-year coaches to begin their offseason workout programs early, and the Texans took advantage of that stipulation in the collective bargaining agreement.

New coach DeMeco Ryans was pleased with the participation he saw from the Texans after their first day.

“Our first day of offseason started and it was encouraging,” Ryans said. “Great participation from a lot of our guys. For me, the message to our guys was really just how are we showing up? Showing up on purpose, being detail oriented in how we work and just continue to have a growth mindset in everything we do.”

The Texans are in Phase 1 of the offseason program, and are limited to just meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation for the first two weeks.

Nevertheless Ryans and the coaching staff can set expectations for how the order of business will be conducted throughout NRG Stadium with a new regime on Kirby Drive.

“Our guys understand that if we want to be the best, we have to continue to strive to be better each day in everything that we do,” said Ryans. “We’re excited as coaches, excited to have the opportunity to meet with our guys for the first time, have the opportunity to in a couple weeks go on the field with our guys and work with them.”

Although the Houston Astros are 12 games into their regular season and the Houston Rockets concluded their 22-60 campaign April 9, there is palpable anticipation for the Texans throughout Clutch City.

Said Ryans: “It’s an exciting time. We feel the energy, the excitement from around the city, from our players, our entire building. We’re all fired up, and we’re excited to get going.”

Phase 2 begins April 25 with a voluntary minicamp that lasts through April 27.

3 Houston Texans possibilities that excite DeMeco Ryans

Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans outlined three areas that excite him about the team.

DeMeco Ryans is excited to go to work as the Houston Texans coach.

The 38-year-old is appreciative of his predecessors — from Dom Capers to Lovie Smith.

“When I look at this organization and all of the great men who have come before me to lead this organization, all of the great head coaches who have been here, it’s an honor just to follow those men; a lot of great men,” Ryans said.

Ryans, who was with the Texans from 2006-11 and played 86 career games for Houston, is not blind to how putrid they have been the past three seasons with consecutive double-digit losing campaigns. They have also taken punches to their reputation with a high profile quarterback demanding a trade — amid a personal conduct scandal no less — and firing three coaches from 2020-22.

“We know we have a lot of work to do,” said Ryans. “We have to win. We want to build the right staff. We want to get the right players, so we can go out and win and compete. That’s when the excitement continues, and that’s what we want to bring.”

Here are three areas which excite Ryans about the Texans.

LSU to open 2027 football season against Houston at NRG Stadium

The Tigers hold a 2-1 record all-time against the Cougars with the last contest coming in 2000.

LSU will open its 2027 slate with a contest against a Big 12 team.

The Tigers will travel to NRG Stadium in Houston for what will be a nominal neutral site game against the Houston Cougars in the Texas Kickoff. The Cougs are set to move to the Power Five from the American starting in 2023.

This will be LSU’s third time participating in the Texas Kickoff, with the previous games coming against Wisconsin in 2014 and BYU in 2016. The latter game was moved to New Orleans due to flooding in Houston the week of the game.

The Tigers most recently played at NRG Stadium in the Texas Bowl after the 2021 season, which it lost to Kansas State.

“The city of Houston and the entire area of southeast Texas continues to be vital to the success of LSU, not only our football program, but the entire university,” coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] said in a release. “With more LSU alumni in that region than any other location outside of the state of Louisiana, it’s important that we have a strong presence in this area and this season-opening matchup will certainly enhance and strengthen the LSU brand in the state of Texas.”

LSU has certainly made recruiting the state of Texas a priority, as five of its 25 signees in 2023 hail from the Lone Star State. The state also has quite a few Tigers fans in residence, as athletics director [autotag]Scott Woodward[/autotag] said in the release.

“It’s always exciting when our football program gets the opportunity to compete in Texas, where so many LSU fans and alumni reside,” he said. “We know our supporters will be just as excited to cheer on the Tigers to kick off the 2027 season, and we look forward to a memorable contest.”

This will be the third contest against Houston in program history. The last came in 2000 when LSU won 28-13 at home. The Tigers hold the all-time series lead at 2-1.

Local legend Larry Catuzzi to be honored at Texans vs. Titans game in Week 8

Mr. Catuzzi was an integral part of the founding of the #Texans, and will be honored for his contributions to college football in Week 8

After years of making a profound impact on the game of football, local legend Larry Catuzzi will be honored at NRG Stadium ahead of the Houston Texans’ matchup against the Tennessee Titans in Week 8 for his induction into the Bowl Season Leadership Hall of Fame. The team issued a statement on Thursday regarding the pregame plans, which included comments from members of the football community that reflected their high opinion of Mr. Catuzzi.

“We’re excited to honor some longtime valued contributors to bowl games and college football,” Bowl Season Executive Director Nick Carparelli said in the Texans’ release on the matter. “Celebrating friends like Larry who have given so much back to the game is always a thrill. He is most deserving, and we thank him for his dedication and service.”

While this occasion might not explicitly relate to the Texans’ on-field product, it is clear from the release that they are excited to have such a revered character in attendance for the game. According to the content of their release, Mr. Catuzzi had a prolific career in investment banking that enabled him to make serious contributions to the sport of football over the years that have had a profound impact on college football in particular.

The team also indicated that Catuzzi was an integral part of the team that enabled the Texans to build NRG Stadium back in 2002, which laid the groundwork for the return of football in Houston. Without his help, the Texans may not exist as they do today, hence their overwhelming reverence for the part he played in their founding.

Coach Catuzzi joins five other new members into the Leadership Hall of Fame class for 2022 including Richard Giannini from the Bahamas Bowl, Mickey Holmes from the Sugar Bowl, Tom Mickle from the Citrus Bowl, Jimmy Rogers from the Sun Bowl, and Ellie Ziegler from the Fiesta Bowl.

Cal McNair hints Texans could offer fans a jersey swap

Houston Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair says the team could offer fans a jersey swap if they wanted to trade in a particular jersey for another.

Houston Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair indicated in a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) Sept. 7 that fans may be able to do something with their old jerseys.

A user asked McNair if the club planned to do a jersey swap, and stated it would be a nice way to care for fans that have stuck with the Texans through the ups and downs that began in January 2021.

McNair wrote: “Yes, we will do this in October so stay tuned for details!”

While most fans may want to trade in their jerseys for the team’s quarterback who previously played 54 games for the franchise, there are other logical candidates. For instance, J.J. Watt’s No. 99 could be eligible if fans desperately want a Dameon Pierce No. 31 jersey, or perhaps anyone still holding onto a DeAndre Hopkins No. 10 may be able to get a Jalen Pitre No. 5 jersey.

A jersey swap would be another gesture from the organization to the fans that they acknowledge what hard times they have been through, and it is time to move forward.

Houston Texans become first NFL team to sell suite through digital currency

The Houston Texans have become the first team in the NFL to sell a suite through digital currency thanks to their new partnership with BitWallet.

The Houston Texans have finally achieved a “first” in the Greg Grissom era.

The Texans announced Tuesday they are partnering with Houston-based crypocurrency company BitWallet to have them become the official digital currency wallet of the team.

Texans fans will have an opportunity to purchase single-game suites with cryptocurrency, using BitWallet as the intermediary. The Texans are now the first team in the NFL that has sold a suite through digital currency.

Houston-based full-service digital marketing agency EWR Digital was the purchaser of the suite.

“We are proud to partner with BitWallet to offer an exciting option for our fans who are looking to enjoy Texans game day in one of our suites,” Texans president Greg Grissom said. “BitWallet is a perfect collaborator as we continue our efforts to move our organization forward in new and innovative ways.”

BitWallet CEO John T. Perrone says that he is “honored” that BitWallet is the first to offer such a service for Texans fans.

“Digital currency has become a primary means of payment and by partnering with BitWallet, the Texans are leading the way in the NFL,” Perrone said.

The partnership goes into effect immediately. For more information, visit www.bitwallet.org.

Houston Texans and 50 Cent partner up on premium beverages, philanthropy

The Houston Texans and 50 Cent have announced a partnership regarding premium wine, spirits, and also philanthropy.

The beauty of the Houston Texans in 2022 is they have found a way to work with homegrown talent.

Whether it is the drafting of first-round guard Kenyon Green (Humble Atascocita) or the signing of defensive end Jerry Hughes (Sugar Land Stephen F. Austin), the Texans have gone to the roots of the greater Houston area to have a successful 2022 campaign.

Throw in 50 Cent into that lot. The Texans announced Monday a multi-year partnership with the Grammy award-winning musician, two-time New York Times best-selling author, executive producer, entrepreneur, philanthropist and Houston resident known as Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The partnership spans from his Sire Spirits LLC to his G-Unity Foundation.

Given that the partnership goes into effect immediately, 50 Cent’s Branson Cognac and Le Chemin du Roi Champagne (translated into English as “The Kings Path”) are now the Official Cognac and Champagne of the Texans.

“We are thrilled to partner with Curtis and his team to offer Sire Spirits to our fans on game days,” Texans president Greg Grissom said. “We share a common goal of giving back to the city we call home, so bringing Curtis on board to present our 50/50 Jackpot on game days was a natural fit. We look forward to the great work we will do together through this partnership.”

The 50/50 Jackpot is now presented by the G-Unity Foundation, which “empowers children and youth in America’s cities to develop confidence, strength and skills to win in life,” according to a team statement.

Last year, 50 Cent announced the G-Unity Business Lab in partnership with the Houston Independent School District. The after-school entrepreneurship program provided academic and social services to high school youth residing in high-need communities by delivering a highly-focused, year-long course on entrepreneurship.

In 2022, the program is doubling in size to service six high schools in Houston.

“Last season, I had the opportunity to enjoy several home games, meet Texans fans, spend time with the McNair family and share with them some of the work I’ve been doing within the Houston community,” 50 Cent said. “When the opportunity to partner with the team at this level arose, I was excited to do it.”

The partnership’s roots started in 2021 when 50 Cent’s G-Unit Film & Television became a Texans Luxe member.

According to the team, the partnership also provides for the use of the Texans logos for branding, television and radio advertisements, two themed sideline bars on the club level of NRG Stadium, directional signage, digital advertisements on the Texans’ app and website, and sponsorship of various events, programs, including a Battle Red Sponsorship of the annual Taste of Texans. Sire Spirits will also offer special sampling events at the club level and cocktails will be offered in Luxe suites on game days in 2022.
